The frontier town of Bellis stands within the quiet shade of the Verduran Forest, nestled along the western banks of the slow-moving Sellen River. Flower gardens color every homestead, painting a vibrant scene under the summer sun. Common folk go about their business, tilling the land, tying off keelboats, and hobnobbing over cups of mead. In the distance, a dog barks, children laugh, and the bees hum while gathering pollen.
Well-loved and retired Pathfinder Veteran, Elyin Ursage, is getting married in the Village of Bellis. To show their respect to the former comrade, the Pathfinders have have sent six of their most respected active members, to serve as a Honor Guard for the ceremonies and to present a generous gift to the newlyweds.
The small town is abuzz with excitement. Streamers float through the street, food roasts and wine flows.
You're quickly recognized as outsiders, but given a warm welcome.
"Pathfinders right," A young Gnome male excitedly greets you. "Of course you are! Very good, very good. So nice to have visitors in the village, and Pathfinders to boot! Oh what a boon this wedding is going to be for business! Oh, I'm so sorry. My name is Mertis, Mertis Cobblestocking! What a pleasure! What a pleasure! Let me take this opportunity to invite you into the Three Mead Taverns. We have many styles of mead, all delicious! And for Pathfinders, the first round is on me!"
Lirianne of Alkenstar
|
Liriane settles the gaze of her startlingly blue eyes on the excited gnome and nods. "I like free. Not so sure about mead, but there's a first time for everything and I'll try anything once. Lead the way."
Buckwheat Rainbow
|
"Whoa, greetings friend gnome. I'm enthusiastic to try all sorts of ale."
Leaning in, a bit too close for comfort and speaking quietly "I don't suppose you know where a fellow might find a certain cactus fruit around these parts"
Kyra Dawnblade
|
Greetings yon gnome.. Whilst i wont partake in any alcohol, i will have some juice or whatever else u might have.. Names Kyra.. Pleasure to meet you...

The Gnome leads you into a simple, but well-kept tavern. The hall is quite busy, with locals and guests. The patrons are in good spirits, laughter and chatter fills the air. Mertis expertly navigates the crowd, with a glow of joy on his face.
"So good for business," he gleefully whispers to himself as barmaid after barmaid pass with trays full of mead and ale. He brings you up to the bar and beckons for a beautiful, young half-elf bartender to come over.
"Jelyna, the Pathfinder Honor Guard has arrived! Their first rounds is on me, please make sure they are well tended." He says with a smile. She nods and winks at her boss.
"You got it boss," she responds enthusiastically as she comes over to the part. "Alright ladies and gentleman, welcome to the Three Meads, what can I get you?"
Markus 'Earthquake' Kalepo
|
Markus looks around the busy hall.
"One of the house specialties", the hulking varisian says.
A tiny monkey leaps off the scarred man's shoulder. It jumps on the table and begins to chatter excitedly.
"Grigo wants to perform. Is that a problem?" he asks with a gesture toward the collapsible organ bundled to his pack,
Kyra Dawnblade

"Thanks for the offer, but living a little does not involve consuming poisons.. Call me a prude if you wish, but i choose to keep my body pure and my mind sharp.. But by all means enjoy the hosipitality.." She takes a seat with the others and observes her surroundings..

Jelyna puts two full pewter mugs in front of Ezren and Markus.
She then pours another from the same gravity tap for Admus.
"Black Red Clover Meads for the three of you."
She looks at Buckwheat and shakes her head. She pours him a mead and puts a piece of fruit in it.
"For the Islander."
She winks at Lirianne.
"I'd drink heavily too, if I was bunking with these boys."
She pours three different meads into three different Pewter mugs.
"Black Clover, Honeysuckle and a pint of Kellid Blood. First two are on the house since the Prude doesn't want to drink," she winks at Kyra and puts a warm cup of team in front of her. "But the third will cost you..."
Before she can finish, a loud jovial voice interjects.
"A simple 'Thanks to Cayden' will suffice," booms the interrupter, as he slaps a few silvers on the bar. "What sort of priest of our Lucky Drunk would I be if I let a kindred soul pay for her worship."
The man is large, about 12 hands tall and thick as a barrel. On his hip is a fine rapier and round his immense neck is a small pewter mug charm.
"Revas Benwold, at your service. I see Mertis is already busy collecting your hard earned gold. Good to have comrades of Elyin in our sleepy town."
Kyra Dawnblade
|
Kyra smiles at the expected remark.. "Well its good to see a sense on humor.. Thnak you for the tea and well met Revas..."
Lirianne of Alkenstar
|
"I like this girl, she's got spunk. What's your name?" Adamus asks as the drinks are being poured.
"Name's Lirianne," she says, pushing her hat back on her head and downing a mead, then grimacing as the fiery liquid burns its way into her throat.
"And if anyone's bunking with you boys," she says with a small smile, hooking a thumb at the barmaid, "It's going to be her. I'm just here for the wedding."
Buckwheat Rainbow
|
Well, the drink's about half right at least... I don't know why the Decimverate seems fit to send me to another wedding. Last time I almost got kicked out for explaining to them how the shackles of marriage were just another prison that society tries to put us in to stymie our freedoms.
Adamus Vintersten
|
"Pretty name. Mine's Adamus. Personally I'd be okay with bunking with a woman who knows how to handle a weapon." Adamus says with a straight face before taking a sip of his drink. "I wouldn't call Kyra a prude exactly, but I guess I just thought she knew how to have fun. My mistake."
Lirianne of Alkenstar
|
"Some folks take longer to warm up to strangers. Qadira ain't like here. Neither is Alkenstar, for that matter."
Liriane looks down the table at Kyra. "I guess she ain't so forbidding as all that. Maybe good times just begin with tea for some folks. A smart fella might ask her to dance at the wedding."
Kyra Dawnblade
|
"What some think of as fun, others might think of as a waste of time, money, and brain cells.. I don't mind having a good time, but drinking alot of booze hardly constitutes that for me.. A hot bath with good reading material is a good time for me.. Removing blasphemous unliving from the world of light is a good time for me.. Not drinking.. But please do not be offended by my refusal, for i enjoy the company of new friends... And yes i do like to dance Miss Lirianne!" With that she smiles and continues to drink her tea.
Adamus Vintersten
|
"Well the drinks are free, and as long as you don't abuse it, I don't see the harm. But to each their own. I'll be sure to save you a dance then." Adamus says before waving down the barmaid for another drink.
Markus 'Earthquake' Kalepo
|
Hearing no objections, Markus sets up his organ and begins to play a jaunty tune. The monkey removes his fez and capers back and forth in sync with the music.
The hulking varisian regards the newcomer with a nod but continues his performance.

Throughout the night, several Bellis citizens of note stop into the inn and buy a round for the party.
First was the cleric of Cayden, Revas, who raised several glasses with you throughout the night. Sharing stories of adventure and ribald stories.
As he begins to drift away and drink with others in the bar, a beautiful half-elf woman approaches. She curtsies to the group and orders a honeyed mead for herself as she orders another round for you.
"Always good to meet more Pathfiners," She said with a smile. "Elyin has been a great boon to our community since he retired from your august body. And a great business partner for me, his honey is perfect for my confectionary concoctions. Have a drink with me and share a bit of your tales. Elyin's are always so interesting."
Markus 'Earthquake' Kalepo
|
The drink seems to bring the hulking varisian out of his shell and as the night wears on and after a few songs on his organ, he talks a little about the missions he's been on.
"...So we were faced with a choice", he says before stopping to take a long draw from his mug.
"Let her go to continue being a threat to our scholars or make our own justice by taking her life. It was an easy choice..."

As Markus finishes his story, a second gnome interrupts your revelry. This gnome has stark white hair and pale skin. His eyes are dull and not from drink. But there is a malice to his face.
"Just what we need, more stinkin' Pathfinders to run us Bellis-born out-of-business and take brides from our town so the men-folk who've courted 'em since adolescence are left out in the cold. Bah, the whole lot of ya out to just pack up and go ruin some other town and leave the good folk of Bellis alone!"
The revelry that had moments before been at near fever pitch, suddenly stops and all eyes are on you and this strange little gnome (Know Nat, or Know Loc)

"No one you Pathfinders would care about. I was just a bee keeper, but now thanks to the likes of you I'm not even that!"
Revas, overhearing the sounds of a potential bar fight, steps in.
"Tenzekil Braybittle, these men and women mean you no harm and have done no ill to you and you know it. And Elyin has no more ruined your business than I or Jeylna or Mertis. You've had too much mead, just relax and go home. The festival tomorrow will put you in a better mood."
The gnome flashes with anger as he turns toward Revas, His hand clenching for a moment, before relaxing.
"Oh don't think I don't know your involvement in their little schemes," he hisses and then turns toward the crowd. "And don't you think I've forgotten your betrayal. How you chose that Pathfinder over me, and cast me aside! I will..."
Just as he's about to finish, Jelyna steps out from behind the bar and socks him in the nose. Knocking him out cold.
"And don't think I've forgotten what a lousy tipper you've always been!" she shouts as a few of the men in the bar drag him out and back home.
The crowd roars in nervous laughter and offers up three cheers for the Barmaid.
As they do, Mertis approaches you.
"My friends, I'm sorry for the outburst of Tensekil. He's not been the same since he started undergoing the bleaching. But he's absolutely harmless. Just rants at whoever is new in town, blaming them for ruining his business or stealing his bride. He's never even been married! Ha," The gnome nervously tries to make light of Tensekil, but you can tell he's ashamed at the man's outburst. "Elyin set aside good coin for you to have my finest rooms and said to ensure you knew he'd be here first thing in the morning to have breakfast with you before the festivities begin. But morning is soon approaching, would you like to get some rest now? I can show you to your rooms."[
Lirianne of Alkenstar
|
"Aye," says Lirianne, rising to her feet and watching the door out which the angry gnome had gone. "Aye, it's time for bed."
Lirianne heads to her room, but after half an hour heads back out again, walking around the village for a closer look.
Kyra Dawnblade
|
Kyra feels a small amount of pity for the gnome.. "So much hatred in such a small person.." Getting up Kyra will go to bed.. "See you all in the morning.."

Lirianne - The village of Bellis is small and simple, though beautiful in its own way. Even in the moonlight the wedding banners and streamers decorating the streets are colorful and beautiful. The night is cool, but not cold. Your clothes keep you adequately warm.
You pass by the confectioner's shop and the Temple of Erastil, the Patron God of Bellis. You walk through the simple open air market, filled with lean-tos where farmers and merchants peddle their wares, thought it is empty now.
The village is idyllic, a veritable, rural paradise. A few of the night owls who stayed a bit too long at Three Meads pass you in the street. A young man nods to you even as he stumbles past, while his companions try to hold him up.
anything in particular you're looking for Lirianne, or just a description of the village and it's people satisfactory?
Lirianne of Alkenstar
|
No. That's good.
As a naturally suspicious soul, and disturbed by the gnome's outburst, Lirianne is driven to look around for anything unusual. Finding nothing, she will return to bed at last. She sleeps with her loaded pistol under her pillow, though.

The next morning each of you are woken by a gentle knock on your door at around 8am. Allowing those of you who needed more sleep to get it.
After you dress and prepare for the day, you head down to the Three Meads hall. A long table has been prepared for you with all forms of breakfast foods. Sausages and bacon, eggs, fruit, fresh bread and butter, etc.
At the head of the table is a tall, handsome Half-Elf, matching the description of Elyin you received from your Venture Captain before heading out to Bellis. He's enjoying a cup of coffee as you enter, which he immediately sets down, before wiping his lips on a linen rag and rising to greet you.
"Well met friends. I am pleased by the Society's presence as Honor Guard for my wedding," He says with a warm tenor voice. "I'm Elyin, though I'm afraid your Lodge did not send your names ahead of you. Would you do me the honor introducing yourself?"
Markus 'Earthquake' Kalepo
|
Markus noisily breaks his fast, occasionally handing a piece of fruit to his simian companion.
"Markus", the hulking varisian says.
"And this is little Grigo."
Lirianne of Alkenstar
|
"Lirianne of Alkenstar," says the dark-haired half elf with the brace of freshly-polished pistols strapped to her thighs.
"Congratulations!" she says with a rare smile.

"Well the festivities are just getting started. Erastil is well-loved in Bellis and that means marriages are a time for great celebrations. There will be a carnival-like atmosphere throughout Bellis today with games and entertainment leading up to the ceremony at dusk, with a feast and dance afterwards. Your role as Honor Guard is entirely ceremonial. You'll simply be escorting my bride from her house, down the main street and to the Chapel of Shelyn, while the village cheers and some of her brothers pretend to try and steal her back."
Elyin then motions to two, adolescent Half-Elf boys. Who walk over from a table where they had been enjoying some sweets.
"Kailah's brothers, Aetol and Alryn. Boys, these are Pathfinders and the Honor Guard," He says we a knowing smile. The two young boys look at you with wide eyes, especially at your strange weapons and gear. "The boys will confront you with wooden swords at as you cross through the square, where the procession will be largest."
He then looks to the boys: "And what will you say?"
In unison the boys reply, trying not to giggle as they speak: "Return our sister to our hearth, foul raiders!"
He then looks to you: "You are to reply in unison. 'Her groom has paid the brideprice to you father, step aside.' Then Kailah will step out from your escort and kiss both brothers, thanking them for their love, but sending them on their way home. And you will then deliver her to the Chapel. Simple as that.
He motions for you all to have a seat and join him in breakfast.
"It is a silly ritual, I know, but the village loves its traditions and so does Kailah. Plus, the boys get to brag that they stopped a company of Pathfinders in their tracks."
The two, future brother-in-laws beam at his comment.
"Please have some breakfast with me, and then go out and enjoy the festivities. There's a bakery auction you have to check out. The young, available women of the village bake their favorite desserts and auction them off to the highest bidder. If you win, you enjoy the dessert in the company of the lass. The Cleric of Erastil loves this game, says it helps lay the foundation for new families haha. Just be careful, buying a dessert in Bellis is what caused me to leave the Pathfinders." He says with a wink.
You spend the better part of an hour eating and chatting with Elyin. He tells you where to find Kailah for the escort and to be there no later than half-past three, to begin the procession. Once you finish, he excuses himself to take care of some last minute details and again thanks you for your service.
You are now free to check out the games and fun.
| Ezren Pregen Wizard |
"I love games except the games don't love me back hahaha!"
Right before Elyin leaves,
"Would you be able to show me the route of the procession? It's been a while since I visited this place, just want to familiarize myself again. Besides, you won't be asking the society for an honor guard if there's no threat to you or to your bride. At least I can notice if there's something off."
