"I am not certain where we could find these other items for the device. It seems the library has done its work. I shall check this statue, and then move upstairs." Godfrey does just that, give the statue between the two rooms a critical eye for any sort of body or snake that could be used to fill the slots. If he fails to find anything then he will sling his sword back over his shoulder and make for the stairs up.

Ragnar and Pookie move to the stairs. Though Ragnar has his bow ready to shoot the statue if/when it comes to life and tries to kill Sir Godfrey.

Emerald Spire slides |

At the heart of this vaulted hall stands a twenty-foot-tall stone statue that depicts a beautiful woman wearing a tunic and wielding a khopesh of polished bronze. Ornate columns bulge from the walls bearing carvings of wheat stalks and snakes eating their own tails.

Set on the walls between the columns, there are six bronze mirrors.

The statue wears an ouroboros torc, a round piece of twisted bronze and gold that resembles a snake chasing its own tail, on its left index finger.

DC 20 Knowledge (history or religion), only available for those by the large statue:

You deduce that the carvings on the columns are symbols of fertility and rebirth. You also recognized that the statue does not depict any known historical or religious figure.

DC 22 Sense Motive or Craft (sculptures), only available to those by the large statue:
You notice that the woman shown in the statue is full of pride and vanity.

DC 20 Knowledge (planes), only available to those by the large statue:
You recognize the creature depicted as a shaitan genie.

Meanwhile, Ragnar and Pookie move over to the other set of stairs, but they ascend steeply and they cannot really see what might lie beyond them without climbing them.

Alonso floats invisibly down the Hall, admiring himself in the mirrors (do invisible people show up in mirrors?). Stopping by the statue he looks it over nodding. Yes, definitely a fertility cult and run by some sort of Shaitan Genie who was full o' herself.

What is the ceiling height in here?

Emerald Spire slides |

Unless otherwise noted, all ceilings are 20 feet high, except in stairwells, where they are 10 feet high.

Alonso, can you indicate your invisibility on your map token in some way? I keep forgetting about it...

As Alonso looks into the mirrors, he is surprised that - even invisible - he does see himself reflected. Not only that, but he's not sure he has ever looked so good! His beard seems bushier, his cheeks rosier, and his eyes seem to positively sparkle! Moreover, the effect seems more pronounced as he looks in the mirrors closer to the statue. By the time he looks at himself in the mirrors closest to the statue, he cannot help but wonder if perhaps he should give up being a Pathfinder and instead pursue a career as a fashion model... Meanwhile, while looking at himself in the mirrors, in the background Alonso also catches glimpses of amazing religious revels unfolding, with various humans handling live snakes, using hallucinogens, and performing "fertility rituals." When he looks over his shoulder, however, he sees none of these things - they are only visible in the mirror.

Alonso, I need a Will save from you. This is a curse affect.

When Alonso flies up to examine the ouroboros torc on the statue (it is 20' up in the air, just beneath the ceiling) and tugs at it, he finds that it does not immediately come free. Give me a STR check if you want to try to forcefully remove it.

Lem does indeed think that the torc bears a striking similarity to the groove on the third table in the room with the humming cylinder.

Theodore does not detect anything interesting with his deathwatch spell, unless Sir Godfrey's shadow passes by, in which case he confirms that it is, indeed, undead.

Clearly there is something interesting about the statue so Ragnar moves over.

"Well it isn't trying to kill us."

Looking over the various things sense motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 he focuses on the statue. "The lady is full of herself. Prideful and vain. You mentioned a space for a snake. Is that necklace big enough?"

"Pookie, Fetch."

Hopefully it isn't fragile. Pookie moves up the wall to grab the statue.

Godfrey is a man to act on the commands of others who he feels might know more of the situation than he does. Thus he does not hesitate. "There is no bad luck for a gentle servant of Sarenrae. And I am the gentlest!" He proceeds to swing his sword about on cue, smashing the adamantine hunk of metal into the nearest bronze mirror. He'll proceed to repeat the process with each mirror in turn, never looking directly at any of them as he attempts to shatter or damage them all.

Pookie attempts to climb up the statue (I assume you have the Fetch trick?) I'll need a Climb check and a Str check (17 is insufficient)

Alonso's experience with the mirrors has afflicted him with the curse of vanity (You have a -2 on Initiative and Perception henceforth). Nevertheless he flies up to the top of the statue and gamely attempts to remove the torc. However, it doesn't budge.

Meanwhile, Sir Godfrey seems determined to bring bad luck down upon the party. After all, what could possibly go wrong? He shatters the first of the mirrors, eliciting a furious protest from the invisible wizard (no doubt because of his curse of vanity?). Let me know if you continue smashing the rest of the mirrors, as originally posted, or if Alonso's objection causes you to shift course.

The other says don't do it because his concept of time is suspect!" He throws up his hands in frustration. "Fine! You two figure it out, I shall go get the snake thing off the statue."

Godfrey wanders away from his task and scale up the front of the statue to try and reach the torque, then rip it from its place. "This seems like vandalism as well, you should know."

I am perfectly fine Alonso bellows back at Godfrey. Yes, I may be suffering from a few minor curse effects but such things are to be expected when exploring a site such as this. I am quite certain I can deal with them expeditiously once we are done exploring. In the meantime please refrain from destroying any more priceless artefacts. We are Pathfinders after all!

With that he turns towards the statue. Maybe I can help here he says as he mutters a spell and coats the torc in a thin layer of grease.

Alonso casts grease on the torc in the hopes that this makes it easier to remove. Unattended objects get no save and therefore I don't think this makes him visible. If it does he will resume invisibility as a slightly paranoid squishy wizard.

Sir Godfrey scampers up the statue on his second try and is able to remove the torc with a strong tug. Alonso, you can save your Grease spell since Sir Godfrey had already removed it by the time you posted. Oggil attempts to assist him but is unable to climb the statue and remains on the ground.

With a loud bang, the southernmost column in the long hall suddenly shatters in a deafening roar of shrieking stone, (the spot where the column was is now difficult terrain and is marked with a "no" symbol on the map), creating a large cloud of dust (the cloud of smoke is marked on the map in red - it's a 20' spread around the spot where the column collapsed). Moments later, creaking mournfully, the giant statue starts moving.

Pookie and Sir Godfrey are both still on top of the statue, 15' up in the air. Sir Godfrey, you have the torc in one hand (note that you need both hands free to climb down if you decide you want to do that). With his climb speed and snake body, Pookie can easily remain on top of the statue as it moves but Sir Godfrey will need to make Acrobatics checks to avoid falling off. Also, I don't believe that anyone currently has a weapon in hand, but let me know if I've missed that anywhere. The statue is Gargantuan (occupies a 4x4 space), so I've moved those of you who were on the ground in front of it back just far enough so that you are not sharing its square.

@Ragnar, what is Pookie's initiative modifier? @Sir Godfrey, what is your shadow's initiative modifier (and perception too)? I have added +2 to Ragnar's init for caves/dungeons and subtracted 2 from Alonso for the curse. Let me know if there are any other init modifiers that I might have missed (I don't think that anyone has Heightened Awareness up at present)

Oh bloody hell mutters Alonso.

Special attacks, special defences, immunities, resistances, weaknesses

Alonso quickly mutters a spell and then backs off invisibly.

Alonso casts haste, I am not sure how many I can affect given some are on top of the statue. Godfrey and Ragnar are my priorities. Can we see through the cloud of dust?

Emerald Spire slides |

Oh right. I'm not used to GM-ing Core - thanks for the reminder.

Alonso recognizes that this is a Unique Animated Object, a type of construct (with the usual construct traits including: immunity to mind-affecting, bleed, disease, death effects, necromancy effects, paralysis, poison, sleep, stunning, ability damage, ability drain, fatigue, exhaustion, energy drain, nonlethal damage, or anything that requires a Fort save). In addition, he believes that the statue's khopesh is a Maiming Blade that is infused with a hatred of beauty - (it can do CHA damage). He also thinks that it might be able to grab its targets. In addition, it is probably very hard, being made out of stone and all. That is 3 questions: special attacks, special defences, and immunities.

Re haste, my understanding is that Pathfinder doesn't do trigonometry, so everyone should be within 30' of each other, so no problem hasting everyone.

@Alonso, are you still flying? Can you note on the map your altitude?

Re the cloud of dust, no you can only see 5' into the cloud.

"My word... that's huge!"

Move Action
Theodore backs off of the gargantuan creature so he can cast more freely, and be just out of reach of the creature. Some beer comes out of his mug, as clearly even a Caydenite spill some at the sight of a creature that large. Will provoke, although don't know if it is considered to have acted yet or has Combat Reflexes. Doing it anyway.

Standard Action
He casts Prayer on the whole party. Has a 40' radius, so anyone within 40 ft. is affected. The statue is probably not affected by the negative part of the spell because it's mind-affecting, so it's mostly going to be a buff than a debuff.

PRAYER: +1 luck bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saves, and skill checks

Oggil flexes his fingers, and realizes this is probably not going to end well. Calling on his inner reserves of kama he tries lashing out at the giant statue before it can crush him. His attacks seem to mostly bounce off it though.

Pathfinders are up!

Will add Shadow and Pookie to list once I have their init but they can go ahead and act now (unless there is a chance their init is less than zero):

Pookie - 0 dmg; haste (expires round 11); prayer (expires round 10)
Shadow - 0 dmg; haste (expires round 11); prayer (expires round 10)

Alonso and Theodore both help their party members with spells. If the statue notices Theodore withdrawing it is not apparent, but some precious beer is lost in his hasty retreat. Oggil pounds the statue with his fists but only two of his blows connect, even though the statue is flat-footed. The statue's hard skin seems to absorb most of Oggil's strikes and the fire doesn't seem to affect him at all.

Godfrey is immediately concerned about the well-being of his hair and releases his grip on the statue to drop to the ground with a heavy thud of mithral on stone. His balance never falters, but he lets the torque hit the floor in favor of redrawing his adamantine blade. "I apologize, Friend Alonso. I'm about to break a rather large piece of history for justice!"

And to his word he rears back and takes a mighty swing of his sword into the knee of the statue after waiting for his shadow to take up a position to flank the creature.

It looks like Lem goes before Oggil, so that extra +2 to damage would translate to an extra 4 damgae in total from Oggil. A tripling! Possibly more if it turns one of those misses into a hit. But if you don't want to retcon due to actions-in-order-of-posts for PBP that is fine too.

Lem, Shadow, and Ragnar are up!

Pookie Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Shadow Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Lem calls the Pathfinders to action, filling them with inspiration for battle! Additional dmg to Oggil's attacks added; the misses would still have been misses.

After his shadow creeps into position, Sir Godfrey leaps to the floor with a grace that one rarely sees in the knightfolk. Drawing his adamantine greatsword, he slices through the statue's stone hide as if it were butter.

Pookie bites at the statue but only one of his attacks hits and it does not seem to do full damage. He is unable to grab ahold of the statue, despite his slithery ways.

His master Ragnar is more fortunate, however, unleashing a furious series of arrows, each of which strike home. While the statue's stone hide absorbs some of the damage, it still takes a beating!

The statue lashes out at those nearest to it, slashing at Pookie with its mighty khopesh. It hits and the damage causes the giant snake to fall unconscious, dropping it to the ground. The blow actually almost seems to make the statue stronger.

khopesh attack: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (12) + 22 = 34
damage: 3d8 + 14 ⇒ (4, 1, 2) + 14 = 21
CHA damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Falling damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

With its other arm, the statue slams at brave Sir Godfrey, wounding him and grasping him tightly in its stone fist!

slam attack: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (12) + 22 = 34
slam dmg: 3d8 + 14 ⇒ (8, 2, 4) + 14 = 28
Grab: 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (6) + 34 = 40

Before the Pathfinders have a chance to react, another figure enters the fray, emerging stealthily from the cloud of smoke. It looks like an emaciated figure, with its skin tightly drawn over a still muscular frame. It smells noticeably of death and the stench of the grave, as if something had just been exhumed. It lunges into the face of the unsuspecting Ragnar and claws at him. Not only does the claw wound the intrepid ranger, but he begins to bleed! Ragnar, at the start of your turn you take 1 point of hp damage

claw attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
claw dmg: 1d4 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

Knowledge (religion) - on your turn - to know something about this new arrival.
