List of shelves has been updated with additional info due to knowing the languages.

Phase 1 - the Bold May Act
Ragnar/Pookie
Theodore
Sir Godfrey/Shadow
Alonso
Oggil
Lem

Ragnar assists Pookie to move the tablets on shelf 1. Current STR check with aid is 22

Everyone other than Ragnar, let me know if you want to keep your previously declared action (and die rolls), and also if you wish to change the shelf you had previously declared.

@Alonso, do you wish to continue investigating the northern room or join your comrades' library adventure? The time to move between the northern and southern rooms is negligible for our current purposes, so you can still take a full action in the library if you wish to.

@Lem, you'll need to have one of the shelves fully moved (to 100%) before you can start cataloguing it. Go ahead and reselect your action (and since your comprehend languages scroll will only last for 2 phases, you might want to save it until at least one set of shelves has been fully moved.

"These are not as light as they appear on the surface." he says, sweating profusely.

Oggil, do you still want to do this, and if so, on which set of shelves? Feel free to roll again if you wish since I was not clear about the option to declare that you want to risk the Fort save until *after* you see the result of your STR check.

Sir Godfrey wrote:

Sir Godfrey takes his hand away from the table and gives Alonso a nonplussed look. "I somewhat regret even touch this foul device of villiany. I fear I am of little use to you here. I know you are not fond of my shadow, but I shall leave it nearby as security and shall go aid the others!

When he reaches the fifth book shelf he gives Lem a confused look, as the halfling appears to be trying to catalogue without actually organizing the tablets first. He uses a large, gauntleted hand to nudge the small fellow aside and reaches down to start organizing. "You must do things in order, friend! Or you shall get nowhere!"

[dice=Fort Save]1d20 + 12
[dice=Strength Check]1d20 + 6 + 5
[dice=GM Reroll Strength]1d20 + 6 + 5 + 3

Godfrey spends mere moments Hefting and slinging tablets into their proper locations on the fifth shelf, then will begin helping Lem catalogue them, quite literally dancing up and down the shelf to Lem's little tune as he goes.

[dice=Performance Dance]1d20 + 15

So Godfrey will, I believe, spend 6 minutes organizing the 5th shelf. Then his next 6 whenever we get there will go to helping catalogue it.

Sir Godfrey, do you still want these options and die rolls or do you want to retcon? My initial instructions were somewhat misleading, so you can redo it if you want (and perhaps save your GM reroll) - just let me know. If not, I'll treat your STR check as your phase 1 action and the Perform (Dance) as your phase 2.

Ragnar/Pookie

Sir Godfrey/Shadow

Oggil makes a good start on moving the shelf 1 tablets.

Lem attempts to help him but apparently halfling bards are easily distracted and he does not succeed (Lem, you rolled twice to aid - not sure why - I just counted your first roll. Let me know if you have some special ability that's relevant)

Sir Godfrey shows superhuman strength and pulls all the tablets on shelf 5 into place in short order. Shelf 5 is now available for cataloguing. His shadow noodles about like a schoolkid who can't wait for recess.

Watching Sir Godfrey, the gnome devotee of the god of drunks parodies the paladin's righteous moving frenzy and somehow, drunkenly, manages to almost match him.

Alonso, you are up!

Note: I am including the current score for any given shelf to assist you in figuring out where any of you might want to lend a hand. I'll reset these each phase.

Oggil nods at the paladin. "Directing our efforts may be wise. That tablet that says rebirth in many languages... well...looking through these shelves.. Cosmetics don't seem to have much to do with it, nor does weaponry. Wisdom.. if there is a secret to rebirth that may be held there, but enchatments and mirrors, I see no connection. Ragnar finishes moving the tablets from shelf 1, which is now available for cataloguing, while Pookie realizes that a giant snake in a library is a lot like a bull in a china shop.

Theodore attempts to move a heavy tablet on shelf 3, but instead drops one on his gnomish toe, narrowly avoiding an embarrassingly injury. Note that you can wait to see the result of your STR check before deciding whether or not to push yourself. In this case, there would have been no benefit to pushing yourself (since a 6 is no more useful than a 1).

Sir Godfrey continues his super-human exertions, completing almost all of shelf 6 in a few moments, while his shadow wanders among the shelves, ostensibly "cataloguing" shelf 5, in the same way that many a school child has gone to the library "to study."

Oggil puts his back into the work at shelf 7, before remembering his days in the monastery when his meditation teacher told him that no exertions should be made until one is truly centered.

Godfrey will work on moving Shelf 7, the shadow will aid Oggil on shelf 6. I think you said the aid is automatic, but I rolled it anyways.

Sir Godfrey rolls his shoulders after Rogar finishes off the 6th shelf, slapping the man on his back. "Thank you, friend! These stones are quite heavy." As Oggil moves to start cataloguing the finished shelf Godfrey passes him with a high five should the dwarf want it.

"I shall finish working on this other shelf for you Oggil. You academics should do what you're meant to and leave the me to be useful the only way I can here. I think you are right in that we are onto something exploring these texts for rebirth." Still, after two impressive jobs organizing the massive tablets, Godfrey seems to have slowed as he works to catch his breath for a few minutes.

His shadow floats away from Alonso, who seems to have things well in hand, and hovers over Oggil's shoulder, occasionally pointing out useful tablets on the 6th shelf.

With the Shadow's assistance, Oggil makes quick work of the cataloguing of shelf 6, nearly completing it. @Sir Godfrey, no aiding isn't automatic - need to hit a 10 as usual, and don't forget the modifiers for knowing or not knowing Terran and Ancient Osiriani (+5 if you know both, -5 if you know neither).

@Lem, you now have 3 phases of actions available - if you choose to aid Oggil on his cataloguing of shelf 6 for your phase 3 action you could bump him to fully completing the cataloguing.

Meanwhile, Sir Godfrey continues the work that Oggil had earlier started on shelf 7.

Around them, the ruins continue to rumble and shake unnervingly.

Sir Godfrey and his shadow continue to putter about but as they do so, Ragnar makes an amazing discovery on shelf 6: a series of tablets titled "The Rites of Rebirth." As he examines the tablets, he sees that the imagery and text describing the transformation is metaphorical. The first tablet, “The Harvest,” describes cutting twelve wheat stalks with a sickle. The second tablet, “The Feast,” describes concocting a potion that triggers the rebirth. The final tablet, “The Rebirth,” describes the soul slipping away only to be caught in a receptacle that keeps it safe eternally.

Knowledge (arcana or religion), DC 25, can be done by any of the group, not just Ragnar:

You realize that the process sounds suspiciously similar to that of transforming into a lich.

With this discovery, you sense that you have likely found the information you need in the library, though it remains to be seen whether you can prevent the entire complex from collapsing in time. It continues to shake and rumble and the tremors appear to be growing stronger...

Alonso will head back over to the creepy room with the shadow column and see if the tablet will fit into the rebirth table. While there he takes a closer look at the other two.

Emerald Spire slides |

The tablet does indeed fit perfectly into the indentation in the first table (the same one that was carved with the word "rebirth" in many languages).

The second table has a body-shaped indentation in it.

The third table is carved with a circular groove that looks like a snake biting its tail.
