Query for you, GM - would jump jets function underwater?
"Oshessa attacked us without provocation, forcing us to defend ourselves. We simultaneously incapacitated Oshessa as well as her indigo- and magenta-hued allies. You should surrender. No one else needs to get hurt today...Yang, say what I just said but in the better way...the way you do in parent-teacher conferences, dash it all!"
Al will have their grad student roll to aid if a diplomacy, bluff, or intimidate check is required/allowed, and will try to slowly inch closer during any conversation, hoping to prevent a hasty Teltham from harming the kalo.

Athletics: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
Dart now actually morally enraged by seeing one of his fellow path finders in the cage will swim up 25' and without any tone of jocularity or friendly excitement Dart states.
"Whether or not you accept that Oshessa has been incapacitated is no concern of mine. Know this. My Kalo friend will be released from his cage with in one minute. You being alive or dead when that occurs is also no concern of mine."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Dart is not concerned about the outcome any talking at this point and is continuing to to swim towards the cage. He intends to ignore the interposing morlamaw until otherwise impeded or attacked.

I'll say yes on jump jets, but half the normal distance.
Dart's matter of fact tone doesn't quite get across the severity of the situation and Teltham scoffs.
701, it looks like you're the most intimidating one. Did you want to make an attempt at that?

![]() |

Yang's roll to aid when 701 makes the attempt:
Intimidate: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Al sighs, "something clearly lost in the translation..."
Their jump jets are activated next, propelling the android forward just behind Dart, rifle still held at the ready. Mentally, Al tasks Ruby with combat tracking software initiation on Teltham, as well.

Intimidate +Rocket's aid: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 2 = 13 This won't beat any CR.
701 swims to the front of the Starfinders, and speaks to the morlamaw, in an unapologetic tone he usually reserves for incompetent crew members on a starship, "Whatever punishment our kalo friend has endured will be nothing compared to the time you'll spend in The Sauna, I don't expect an aquatic creature to last long in such environment." But it appears that the morlamaw, with no contact to the Pact Worlds, has no knowledge of the Varosian prison that 701 needs him to fear.
Sorry for going AWOL on the weekend! ISP issues left me with no connection for days =(

GM Kate |

No worries! I assume posting will be slower on weekends.
"You are LIARS and you will PAY!" Teltham bellows, and draws an ugly-looking blade.

Al sighs a little bit internally, lifting their rifle and firing at Teltham, hoping the squad can drop the morlamaw before any harm comes to their kalo ally!

Piercing Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Al activates their jump jets again to close the distance and also get out of the way of their teammates!

![]() |

Can we still move at 1/2 speed by walking across the floor? Or do we have to use swim now? I think I can shoot at Teltham with cover from my current location..but just in case it's going to take more the 2 rounds..I'd like to move closer

So by me reading, you're only flat-footed at the start of combat if you're actually surprised, though you still can't take a reaction. Do you have something else to make him flat-footed?

701 still to go.

I've seen it called both ways, but no worries!

After the barrage of blasts around him, 701 decides it might best for his health to step out of the way, so he swims a bit towards his right, and gets a clear shot of the not-so-friendly morlamaw.

Sorry, 701, DC 15 to swim! You can also walk at a quarter speed with no check if you're not going far.
Were you still in position to hit? I'll assume so...
Teltham lashes out with his fangblade and a tusk at Dart, the only creature in reach.

Al 2O3 grimaces seeing Dart struck so grievously. Gritting teeth, Al fires the jump jets again to close the distance even further, hoping to leverage their energy shield to distract Teltham from striking only at one Starfinder target.
Once in position, Al takes another shot at the morlamaw!

Al 2O3 gets a shot off with his rifle, hitting Teltham directly, right after Raia's magic missile. Rocket lets loose with Muncher, sending a spry of bullets toward Teltham's head. The large morlamaw ducks out of the way, but Dart seizes the opportunity to stab the creature while he's distracted, striking a vital organ. The teal morlamaw collapses.
Suulhu-Huur cheers from her cell.
Out of combat!

Al switches off their combat tracking module and approaches Suulu-Huur while looking around carefully for any traps, fail-safe explosives, or the like.

They will help Raia and the others extract their kalo ally from the cage as quickly and safely as possible. "It's good to see you...did anyone else from your team...?" they trail off, hoping Suulu-Huur is not the sole survivor of Manta Corps.
Regardless of the answer, the android's mind snaps back to their current situation. "Are all of the morlamaws hostile? Should we be preparing for a fighting withdrawal to our ship, friend?"

![]() |

Sorry, 701, DC 15 to swim! You can also walk at a quarter speed with no check if you're not going far.
Were you still in position to hit? I'll assume so...
701 tried to swim to get closer, but he was in a position to shoot, with Dart standing on the path of the bullet. Teltham had cover from 701 before being shot.
"How badly injured is our Kalo friend?" The forerunner asks as he moves closer to the soon-to-be-released prisoner, trying to find any injuries on him.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
"Найз минь, бид чамайг удахгүй эндээс гаргана."
"Relax, friend, we'll get you out of here soon."

GM Kate |

She is clearly worse for wear, but is still conscious and talking.
"I though I was a goner for sure! I'm afraid the rest of the team didn't make it. Oshessa poisoned our meals, but I survived. She decided that was a sign I should follow her freaky god, and that definitely did not go well for me. I'm not sure what she did with their bodies. I think it's only Oshessa and a couple of her lackies who you really have to worry about. I haven't seen any of the rest in here. They seemed sweet if maybe not the brightest."
Suulhu-Huur is clearly glad to be out of the cage.

![]() |

"Agreed, Raia. Suulu-Huur...were Irtine or Hinerva among the ones who followed Oshessa?"

GM Kate |

"No, I remember those two, and I haven't seen them. Just Oshessa, Teltham, and a couple whose names I didn't catch."

And then speaking to their team and Suulhu-Huur both, "Hinerva was rather pleasant greeting us, but Irtine was evasive with us...perhaps the latter knew something? If nothing else, the former may be a good candidate to approach with diplomacy. I could lend Yang to assist whichever of you prefer to do the talking, of course."

GM Kate |

She is suffering from poison damage, but is not in immediate danger of death. She'll need some long-term care in a medical facility to fully recover.

![]() |

"I have an intriguing idea to propose...if you agree, Suulhu-Huur. Since you are medically stable, let us not clean any of your overt wounds, so when we emerge, the morlamaws will see more plainly what Oshessa and her followers did to you...if they are somewhat slow, a visible display may help drive the point home?"
This idea brought to you by HBO's Rome season 1
Al is otherwise ready to help Suulhu-Huur up and outside so we can confront the rest of the morlamaws, whenever the rest of the team is.

GM Kate |

Once you head back out, the rest of the morlamaws are gathered and stare.
"What happened in there?"
Although you've been in water, I imagine there's still a fair bit of blood!

Omen-Seeker clears her throat. "Oshessa killed this poor person's team, poisoning them and torturing this survivor in the name of the Chained God. Her cohorts have been lying to you, and torturing this Starfinder agent in secret. The Starfinder Society is not your enemy. We wish nothing more than to exist in peace with you, as friends and partners, but Oshessa's treachery has damaged our relationship. We understand that you are unaware of her actions and we hope that you will understand that we acted as mercifully as we could."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

GM Kate |

Irtrine, the guard from the library, weighs in. "I can vouch that they are telling the truth. Oshessa asked me to help dispose of the other kalos' corpses, and it has weighed on my conscience ever since."
The rest of the morlamaws gasp in shock and murmur among themselves for a while. They eventually look back to the Starfinders.
Hinevera says, "This is terrible! Whatever will we do now?"

![]() |

"We do not hold the actions of the individual against community. As such offer our friend ship. We of the society would like to work with you to better both our causes. First of which is some resources that we can use from here. And we can work with you to make sure we disrupt your environment as little as possible. "
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

"Indeed. There are countless worlds beyond this one in the Pact Worlds and in the Vast. If you are willing to explore other paths than the one Oshessa tried to lead you down, we would be happy to aid you on that journey."
"...We can't speak for everyone you might meet in the universe, but I can say with some certainty that the Starfinder Society will never, ever, attempt to obscure the truth from you as Oshessa did."

Al 2O3 smiles, "Indeed! You are the master of your fate and the captain of your s- ow! Yang! ...What do you mean copyright infringement?"

GM Kate |

Are you just offering the aid of the Starfinder Society or trying to convince them of something more specific with the Society?

![]() |

Is that a breadcrumb I smell?
Al rubs the back of their head where their grad student 'gently' bruised them. "Er, as I was saying...you could also petition to join the Starfinders in exploring the cosmos, as well!"

Now it's Al's turn to (gently) smack prod Yang with the buttstock of their rifle so she speaks up in support of the idea, the two academics hoping that it spurs the more socially-minded among the team to take the lead?
