You go first, so you set me up to absolutely obliterate our poor, poor little green friend!

The last goblin goes down in a heap of blood, entrails, and drool.

End of combat. 100 xp for each PC

It appears that the woman will live, thanks to your quick action. Several townspeople come out of their hiding places to take her and the child. 'We'll get her somewheres safe, masters.' Says one man, gingerly lifting her. 'Looks as if you have other things to worry about.'

Indeed, he is right, because over your shoulder, toward the cathedral, a huge plume of black smoke is rising. Then the sound strikes you. It's as if someone took a roomful of cats, taught them to sing, and then set them on fire while they were singing. The first verse wafts its way towards you over the sounds of battle.

Goblins chew and goblins bite.
Goblins cut and goblins bite.
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force!

Words to live by, if you are a goblin, apparently, as you see several menacing a horse near some stalls. A large group of them are carrying torches, seemingly intent on setting the bonfire materials alight. They are led by this creature who appears to be leading the singing.

A quick look can tell you that the guards are scattered and/or occupied. You are the nearest help Sandpoint has...

Initiative rolls, please.

After a short run across the square, it is obvious to you that the goblins are too preoccupied with their burning and horse-cutting to notice you.

Surprise Round Encounter Map

Khalad dashes forward to engage a goblin.

Charges to square C:1 and attacks adjacent goblin

Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Yelena moves forward, whispering in the language of magic and making a few quick movements with her free hand. She reaches out to one of the goblins and makes a fist in the air as though to crush it's head from afar. "Oh, my goodness! Look at your friend's weapons! They are so rusty and dull! I think it would be so neat if you were to help them by cleaning and sharpening their weapons! Why don't you go get them so they can be nice and ready for battle? The ones right over there, by the church!"

Yelena will advance to square G-3 and cast charm person (DC 18 Will) on the goblin in square G1. Hopefully the goblin will go attempt to disarm one of its allies in the second group, but if that is something it is not likely to do, then here is the opposed Charisma check.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

"The middle one is mine", says Torillan with a grin. He charges the little beast, and makes a back-hand swing at its head.

Rogar has cast Bless on the party. Everyone in 50 ft. burst recieves +1 morale bonus to attack and +1 to save vs. fear. This will last for 1 minute.

1st Round Summation:

Yelena casts a spell on the goblin in front of her, who promptly turns and runs to the nearest stall. He quickly grabs a chunk of beef and hurls it at another goblin by the cathedral, yelling: Oi! Ghavalsh ak' togalashk!
Speak Goblin

Spoiler:
Oi! Clean yer weapons ya git!

Pietro slides up behind Yelena, watching for more goblins to appear from around the stalls.

Gimble's shot strikes true, embedding itself deep in the goblins thigh.

Khalad's axe takes the goblin's head clean from its shoulders.

Not to be outdone, Torillan's blade goes clean through his goblin, to emerge from the other side, covered in green blood.

Rogar steps up and grants the blessings of Torag on all of you.

Ok, couple of things here:
1. This was a surprise round, so technically you all should have had ONE action. However, I wasn't very clear on this, so I let it go to a full round. I did label the first map of this encounter as the "Surprise Round", so lets all watch for that.
2. Keep an eye on the coordinates. Map Tool, for some reason, will assign negatives to some letters and numbers. Watch for them when you plot your move. I think you all caught that, but making sure here.
3. Jeez, can you roll any better?

Round 2

Damn, I'd already edited it, quite substantially. Your too quick for your own good Old Guy!

Check the OOC thread, important combat mechanics decision.

ROUND 2.... FIGHT!

"Keep up the good work! You'll have their weapons shiny in no time!"

Double-move action to space E9.

Torillan's strike runs clean through the goblin, so he keeps striding past the remains towards the goblin next to the green-stiped stall.

He raises his sword as he advances, and brings it straight down at the delirious little beast.

Male Dwarf Cleric of Torag 2

"Hey, quit that nasty singin"Rogar remarks to the awful noise coming from one of the goblins.

Rogar spends this round running up to square C, 10

Hey, Torillan, did you know that goblin would have done whatever I told it to for at least an hour? Short of disemboweling itself...

Yelena Shukhov wrote:

I know...I'm playing Torillan as a merc who doesn't like to leave enemies behind. Sorry for the spell... :{

Yelena sighs, seeing Torillan attack the charmed goblin, "It's not as though I'm under any obligation once that spell is over, you know. Half the fun of charming the little buggers is betraying their artificial loyalty. Nothing quite like watching that sparkle of trust die out in their eyes..."

My sorcerer is specialized in enchantment spells, so most of them are battlefield control by incapacitating enemies. If you go and hack them apart right after I cast the spell, I might as well have learned evocation spells instead. They are supposed to free you up to attack other enemies. Just saying.

Good point. I will keep that in mind for the future. No harm intended.

Round 2 Summation

Yelena rushes toward the stage, scolding Tor about the importance of battlefield control.

Pietro moves along the stalls and carts, looking for an opportune moment to strike.

The singing Goblin dances and capers to a spot directly in front of Yelena.
With a few words, Will save

Spoiler:

Gimble moves forward, readying his crossbow.

Khalad charges forward with a triumphant roar, only to miss with his axe as the wounded goblin manages to lurch to one side.

Torillan attacks the brisket-wielding goblin, striking it down without mercy towards goblin or brisket.

Rogar runs forward, admonishing the the goblin on her singing.

'Goblins race and goblins jump.
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be DEAD!'

Goblin Pyro runs up onto the stage, getting a position of height on Khalad.

Pietro sneaks forward, firing his light crossbow at the Warchanter.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 The bolt misses cleanly and disappears into the billowing smoke.

The Warchanter lashes out with her whip at Rogar, the weapon making a vicious hiss and crack, but not much more.

Gimble's shot strikes home, burying itself into the Goblin's side.

Khalad removes the goblin's legs from the rest of its body, causing torch, slicer, and torso to tumble to the ground at his feet.

Torillan moves up to engage more foes.

Rogar moves to Khalad's side, prepared for battle.

Shaking off the daze, sheer outrage flashes on Yelena's face, "An enchantment? On ME?! I will use your skull for an inkwell!"

Yelena takes a 5-foot step backward to space E8 (avoiding an attack of opportunity) and fires her crossbow at the warchanter.

Spoiler:

”We’ve got to get rid of these goblins so we can tackle that fire before it gets out of control!” Gimble thinks to himself as he notices the large plume of smoke billowing from the burning wagon.

Gimble quickly reloads his crossbow and - seeing the elf maiden step back in order to fire her crossbow at the warchanter - decides to fire at the goblin that struck the elf before it can threaten her again.

Not sure how criticals work with the dice roller, the damage should be X3.

The dice roller does not calculate criticals. Hit 'Preview' to see your dice rolls before posting and simply make a note of the damage after confirming the critical roll.

Yelena Shukhov wrote:

Agreed. If the preview shows a threat, roll another set (confirmation and damage), and put in the spoiler as well.

Round 4 Summation

In an attempt to miss the goblin between her and the warchanter, Yelena's bolt goes wide of its mark. Remember the cover bonus for your line going thru the goblin's square.

Pietro lines up his shot, the quarrel taking the goblin in front of Yelena unawares. The shot enters its skull, lodging there with a dull 'chunk'.

The warchanter takes a bottle from her belt, and slugs down a greenish goop. As you watch, her wounds knit themselves back together.

Seeing Pietro's shot finish the goblin threatening Yelena, Gimble shoots at the warchanter, but his shot goes wide as well.

The mighty axe of Khalad cleaves only air as the goblin ducks his swing.

The goblin menacing Torillan deftly sidesteps the warrior's blow.

Rogar's warhammer smashes the goblin's skull into mush, brain and blood spraying everyone within 5' of the goblin.

Both goblins make futile attempts to hit Khalad and Tor.

Ahhh, forgot the cover bonus. Do we have a map for this round? Or have the remaining goblins not moved?

"Oh, now that's just not playing fair!" Gimble protests as he watches the wound he inflicted on the warchanter heal.

Well, then, let's see what you think of this!" the plucky gnome shouts as he rushes forward and points at the still-warbling goblin. A shimmering ray of light shoots from the gnome's fingers toward the warchanter.

Spoiler:
Gimble moves forward 20' to square D, 10 and fires a Blinding Ray - ranged touch attack, causes the creature to be blinded for 1 round, unless it has more Hit Dice than Gimble's wizard level, in which case it is dazzled for 1 round. Gimble can do this 5 more times today.

Seeing the finely executed maneuvers of her comrades, Yelena will begin organizing a bucket brigade to fight the fire. She reloads her light crossbow, just in case, then moves to square (-B)8 and shouts, "Alright, people! We need a line of men to the well and every bucket you can spare! Let's move now, now, now, now!"

Spoiler:

Charisma check to get the bucket-line formed.
