Game Master RPGGGM

With the heart of the Stolen Lands explored and the bandits who ruled there scattered, the long-contested realm finally lies open for pioneers and settlers to stake their claims.:
Amid the rush of opportunistic travelers, the PCs find themselves stewards over a new domain, tasked with the responsibility of guiding and guarding a fledgling nation struggling to grow upon a treacherous borderland. Yet the threats to this new nation quickly prove themselves greater than mere bandits and wild beasts, as the monstrous natives of the hills and forests rampage forth to slaughter all who have trespassed upon their territory. Can the PCs hold the land they’ve fought so hard to explore and tame? Or will their legend be just one more lost to the fangs of the Stolen Lands?

Only if Fergus jumps/falls in.

With the group consolidated again at the water's edge and the wolves barking and howling in frustration behind them, the party moves to cross the swift stream with the aid of Alia's rope.

Further back some of the group are still picking themselves up from their fall at the base of the cliff. Spending a move to do so for this round of the chase.

The wolves seem closer. But the sudden briar patch invoked by Balzeros's magic seems to have slowed them as they begin barking from the far edge.

With a rope already set up, Balzeros wastes no time waiting to cross. Grabbing hold of the rope, he tries to walk across the squirrel bridge. I'm getting to old for this sort of thing...

Deciding to lend credence to his thoughts, the poor man's feet misstep shortly after starting and he flops right into the drink.

Alia rushes ahead while nearly everyone else waits on the far side of the makeshift bridge for her to report back? So in part to reiterate:

Illthir crosses the log bridge.

Serena begins looking impatient as the group's rear guard. Come on. Come on.

Alia rushes down a path that seems familiar except for the wall of foliage up ahead.

That's as per the following bit of rules (essentially it is a way to catapult your PC ahead two spaces on the game board).

Chase rules wrote:
A character who wants to attempt to move three cards during his turn can do so by taking a full-round action. That character must overcome both obstacles on the card he is leaving. In this case, if a character fails either obstacle check by 5 or less, he only moves one card forward and his turn ends. If a character fails either obstacle check by more than 5, he cannot move at all that turn. A character unfortunate enough to fail two obstacle checks in a turn becomes mired in his current square (he might have fallen from a ledge, gotten a foot stuck amid roots, or got caught in a crowd, for example). A character who is mired must spend another full-round action becoming unmired and effectively loses his next turn in the chase. In some cases, becoming mired might impart additional penalties (such as falling damage).

You can decide if you want to do that or not but, it looks like Balzeros might be in trouble regardless.

Technically, this is after work.

Zokon acrobatics aid: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Zokon reaches out a hand. "Just run across, I'll catch you."

Balzeros acrobatics (balance, rope): 1d20 + 2 + 5 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 5 + 1 - 4 = 10

Balzeros stops though stuck in the middle of the crossing trying to regain his tenuous footing.

Serene clears her throat loudly wanting to get across the make-shift bridge before being forced to fight with her back against the stream.

Fergusbot looks up from his papers and finally takes the hint. He carefully puts all of his parchment away as sound of wolves draws closer. Then satisfied he steps out onto the bridge and begins wobbling.

Fergus acrobatics (balance, rope): 1d20 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 5 = 11

Grasping the nearest branch (and making Erevenwyg put her hand up to her face like Dr. Fauchi at a White House Covid 19 briefing) he stops and regains his balance.

The waif grows increasingly fidgety.

Glad to hear you are felling better, Alia. Going with that whole 'scouting' thing, I actually moved Alia along past the tendriculos yesterday. There are ways Alia can help others cross through, as well as info only she from her (and Illthir's) position can pass on to the others. At this point there is no '3rd card'.

Strength. Bull Rush DC 15.

Fergusbot explains in a professorial tone that the shrub ahead seems to be a "euonymus reptans legio," a sort of huge carnivorous plant from the south. The late winter chill seems to have stunned it a bit. You might be able to get by rushing through it before it's awakens.

knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24

That leaves Serena, Erevenywg, and the girl.

PS I'll get them moving once I get home.

Erevenwyg acrobatics (rope): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

"It's really not as easy as it looks." says the gangly fairy woman who remains all elbows and knees.

The girl next to her looks as though she is trying make her self as small as possible as the sound of the baying wolves draws nearer.

Everyone is still up.

"We can see the barge from here!", Alia shouts back to her comrades, then refreshes her "Expeditious Advance"-Spell using her pearl of power.
Seeing some struggle at the River crossing, she sighs and prepares to return to help.
I guess that means doing the checks in reverse order? Or can I pass back freely from this side?

Illthir fidgets nervously with her hair and bites her lips. She had really hoped the rest of the team would show up by now! Ohoohohoohoh darn. She looked to Alia whom appeared to want to rush back. Through the flesh eating plant. Towards the wolves. The half elf squirmed. She *really* didn't want to do that. But she didn't want to listen to someone else get eaten either ...

Mm. Or ponder what we can do to help from this side. Illthir can sing for a str bonus. But singing might not help with the sleeping plant ...

GM, did this have any effect?

My bad. Will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

The tendriclous chortles and waves the party into its mouth.

Yes.

Also, Zokon can just aid Erevenywg to pass (she only missed by 1), though that still leaves the girl behind, and I wasn't sure what he had in mind to do about that. The wolves are very close now.

Still waiting on Zokon, and Fergus, and if others still want to take actions. I'll thrust us forward later tonight.

Zokonbot pulls Erevenwyg across.

Fergusbot rushes forward and attempts to crash through the plant, but only bounces off.

Fergus bull rush: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Serena hears the wolves come around the bend at a run!

"Come! Zoh-Khan will catch you!" cries Erevenywg to the girl, but the girl shrinks back, too terrified to move.

"By all that is holy!" Balzeros stomps his foot and turns back towards the sound of closing wolves.

Pointing in their direction he directs his anger into the plants around them. That should give us more damn time!
________
Dang! That would have been so sweet! He'll try to Bull Rush when the time comes then. In the mean time, move back a card and cast Thorny Entanglement! The goal is to have Serena at the edge, but otherwise as close to the wolves as he can get it.

With a sigh, Alia breaks into a sprint and crashes through the Tentriculous once more, using her momentum to try and jump the River as well. (so there's no collision with someone walking over)

Acrobatics DC 15: 1d20 + 13 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 13 + 6 = 32
Bull Rush DC 15: 1d20 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 6 = 19

By my understanding I can move 2 cards by doing both challenges like this? so get back to the girl?
