Sefanit Batinayad |

Hello! Thanks for choosing me Lucendar! I'm really looking forward to this, Sefanit was a blast to play in the short time the previous Mummy's Mask campaign lasted, and this time I can do it without the pain of the first couple of levels as an arcane caster.
A couple of questions for you:
Sefanit's Headband of Vast Intelligence will be granting +5 skill points to a single skill. Do you want to choose the skill, or do you want me to? Those skill points won't stack with other skill points so I may need to reallocate a little depending on where the bonus goes.
In the old campaign Sefanit's witch patron was linked in some way to Selket. It seemed a good match due to her domains, the scorpion familiar, and thematically. Of course Sefanit had no idea, but she wanted to find out who or what her patron might be. This is something you can keep or alter as you prefer. No need to tell me unless you want to.

Hello you other players as well! I'm looking forward to playing with you!
On common backgrounds: After a quick look at the other characters, here's what I'm thinking.
Devon: Unlikely Devon and Sefanit have met. She's an out of towner, and not really in Wati to "adventure" so it's hard to see why they would have crossed paths.
Thorne: Sefanit may have met him in Wati, or they might know of each other by reputation. Both are recent arrivals in Wati from different places so if they have met in person it would have been only recently. This is probably the relationship that will have the most immediate potential for friendship (they have a lot in common) or rivalry, or both?
Lilia: No common history here. Sefanit is a steadfast Rahadoumi non-worshiper, and she won't have reasons to be mixing with representatives of religions unless, like the Pharasmans in Wati, they have government or bureaucratic functions as well. Sefanit is also leery of doing so because the Pure Legion has agents abroad. She doesn't want to get entangled with people who might lead to her being unable to return home.

Devon Shadowsong |

Thank you for the selection, Luc and happy to be gaming with all of you. As I posted in my history, my connection would be if any of you needed a bodyguard attending the auction and if you could afford my rates. ;) Perhaps the Professor...otherwise, Devon will be there watching some NPC's back.
Thanks Sefanit, I copied your Race/Class levels info to paste into profile and changed numbers.
My role is to provide the party with ranged support, trap disabling, and survival skills as needed. Any guidance or comments would be appreciated if you wish some other role. Without a cleric, healing will be at a premium. I've got some CLW potions.

Lilia Stinisen |

Lilia is a front liner, or course, but she can heal a bit with her LOH and a couple channels a day.
I wrote her as a newcomer to town, so I don’t see any easy connections with the others. But, I’m happy to make a change if it makes things simpler for everyone else!

Hello! Thanks for choosing me Lucendar! I'm really looking forward to this, Sefanit was a blast to play in the short time the previous Mummy's Mask campaign lasted, and this time I can do it without the pain of the first couple of levels as an arcane caster.

You can pick the skill, Sefanit. I'll look into the patron idea - Selket makes sense. Thanks.

Sefanit Batinayad |

Healing shouldn't be too difficult to deal with. Sefanit has a wand of CLW right now. Since there's no cleric she can adjust to take on more of a healing role if needed. The Cure line of spells is on the witch's list. So is Heal and some condition removal stuff. We'll be more wand and scroll dependent for it, which is more expensive, but we should manage. Taking the Heal hex is also a possibility.
We do have a bard as well and there's healing and so forth on that list also.
One thing we might consider is doing treasure splits as a five-way thing. The extra 5th share being for groups items. That could help a lot in purchasing the extra magic we'll likely need to stay healthy.

Sefanit Batinayad |

I'll go with Knowledge Local on the headband. I've always thought K Local was a janky skill. It seems that it should be location specific in some way rather than working everywhere. For example, I live in Portland, so my K Local is hight here. If I go to Dallas, my K Local is pretty much zero.
But anyhoo, this way the headband gives the INT boost and is also a magical Rough Guide to Wherever You Are Right Now so it makes a bit of sense that she can find her way around Osirion so well.

Lilia Stinisen |

Lucendar, is the heat extreme enough that I would need an Endure Elements spell to keep from overheating while wearing medium armor?
I've got it memorized, but if I don't neeed it, I could come up with a more useful spell, I'm sure.

Hello all, and thank you for the invitation to this Campaign. I am excited to get started!
I like the idea of some character interaction prior to the start of the game.
Sefanit: Selket is the Goddess of Embalming and Funeral Rituals, so a perfect fit for this campaign. I love it. It is very likely that the Professor and Sefanit will have met through academic connections. He may have contacted her for information about ancient Osiriani rituals during his research.
Devon: you are hired! Professor Thorne is confident of his martial skills and can defend himself, but knows that these auctions attracts shady characters looking for an easy mark. He would have brought along some extra muscle to discourage them to look for easier pickings somewhere else.
Lilia: we will figure out how we meet you. Should not be a problem.
Treasure division: agree with a fifth going to group for healing, etc.
Cleric & Healing: We can manage with wands, and I have UMD.

Sefanit Batinayad |

Lilia: Between Armor Vents and Salt Tablets (both in People of the Sands) I believe you could negate any penalties for heat while using medium armor.
@Lucendar and Players: So, the Slumber Hex... Sefanit doesn't have it, but I'd like to know what you all think of it before deciding on any future hexes. It's very potent of course, although its usefulness would be more limited in this campaign I believe. As I understand it, it would not work against undead, constructs, etc.
Do you think Slumber should be off the table? Available but only used as a last resort option if things are going south badly? Of such limited use in this campaign it doesn't really matter?
I figured I'd go ahead and ask now since it does have the potential to wreck certain types of encounters, and I don't want to make the rest of you unhappy if it's used in the game.

Lilia Stinisen |

I typically take the hex on most of my witches. I use it relatively sparingly, because most DMs hate it and I never want to tweak off the DM! So I am fine with it, to be honest.

It’s the DM’s call really. It is very powerful and can cause many encounters to be anticlimactic. However it is then also usable against us.

Please see spoiler from Campaign Player's Guide and advise where your character resides in Wati.
What follows is a quick rundown of the various districts that make up Wati.
Asp: This primarily residential district takes up the part of the city that's furthest from the River Sphinx. Much of the city's growth in the last few hundred years has been in this district.
Bargetown: This district is the poorest in the city of Wati. It floats on dozens of barges, creating a semipermanent district bobbing in the river. Many of the people who live here make their money from fishing the river, but many more earn their coin through
smuggling. Bargetown is dirty and dangerous, but adventurers can find rare or illegal items for sale there if they look hard enough.
Midwife: This central district of Wati houses the city's temples, markets, artisans, and official buildings. The largest building here is the Grand Mausoleum, which looms over the rest of the district.
Morning Sun: This district is the oldest permanently inhabited part of Wati, and home to its oldest families many of whom have led the city. This district is made up of the estates of the rich and powerful.
Outer Farms: Outside of Wati sit dozens of farms that produce the bulk of the city's foodstuffs, such as garlic, onions, cabbage, cucumbers, flax, melons, millet, pomegranate, dates, goats, and chickens.
The Veins: This is Wati's harbor district and a place for tradesmen and laborers. Canals and alleyways crisscross the district.

Lilia Stinisen |

Does Midwife have an established temple or place of Worship for Sarenrae? I’d assume the temple would let me stay there until my mission and the auction were complete. If not, I’d guess most of the Inn would be in The Veins, so I’d probably be renting a room there.

Lucendar |

PbP thread is up.
Lilia: Officially, the two biggest temples in Wati are dedicated to Pharasma (Grand Mausoleum - the largest) and Abadar (the Sanctum of Silver and Gold). There are small temples dedicated to other gods, including Sarenrae and of course, you are staying there in the Midwife District.
Okay reasons for invite to the auction (it's not open to the public):
Lilia - you are there as a representative of the Church - you were officially invited by Ptemenib, a cleric of Pharasma's church. You are encouraged by your church to thank him in person for the invite when you see him.
Professor Thorne - though your work has been passed over in the past in academic circles (you suspect your half-drow nature may be the reason for it), you also receive an invitation from Ptemenib.
Devon is there providing bodyguard services.
Sefanit - what's your in?

Sefanit Batinayad |

I'm fine without slumber.
Sefanit would be boarding in Midwife. It's central and convenient.
Hm, I see two routes to the auction. Whichever one you prefer Lucendar.
1. Sefanit's father is an engineer involved with the canal system being developed to keep the desert out of Manaket. He would almost certainly know people at the Occularium, the university of arcane magic. The Occularium is also deeply involved in the canal experiments. Through her father she gets an introduction to someone who knows someone in Wati. Professional contacts and all that. She gets a letter of introduction to this person in Wati, who gets her into the auction.
2. Sefanit goes to Obo, the Pathfinder Society Venture-Captain in Manaket and convinces him to give her a letter of introduction to Norden Balentiir, the Venture-Captain in Sothis. She convinces him to give her a letter of introduction to someone in Wati. Ptenenib seems to be someone good to know. Maybe Sebti the Crocodile. Sefanit's 19 and has a +16 in K History. I figure it's fair to think she's red-hot enough at what she does to stand on her own reputation in the little world of Osirionology without leaning on daddy if she wants. Maybe she has to cut a deal to share findings with the Pathfinders. She'd be alright with that.

Sounds good.
The Professor has been staying at the Asp.

Lilia Stinisen |

Sorry...work got away from me today. Initial post is incoming.
I will cast Endure Elements every morning while going through my morning prayers. I figure that's the best time to give respects to the Dawnflower.

Sefanit Batinayad |

I'm going to be traveling from today through dec. 26th and it's unlikely I'll be able to post during that time. Feel free to bot me as needed. Happy Holidays everyone and see you on the 27th!

I am.

Lilia Stinisen |

I’m here. Not sure what’s up with Lucendar. He’s not been around much at the the last couple of weeks. Hope he’s okay.

Sefanit Batinayad |

I'm still in. Honestly I was on the fence for a while. I've had less free time lately than I had expected. Things seem to be calming down though and I can make it work. I'm glad this game isn't folding, I really want to play this AP and my character.
