hmm my post didn't seem to take... trying again
3 bolts fly from the darkness and think into the cart.
Why don't you all just leave the cart and your gold and you can take off.
perceptions for all but Nic
A fog starts to roll out suddenly from the cave it is slow moving, thick and is accompanied by a low sound

![]() |

Galen Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Galen still stands alert, ready to see if the foes will be drawn from the cavern. He is a bit taken aback as the slow fog starts drifting from the mouth of the cave, but listens and peers intently.

![]() |

"Leave the cart? Im a businessman luv not a bloody fool, You all must be powerfully ugly to need a mist to come try my wares."
He called back added insult ... to well insults. He crouched a bit lower and took up the heavy crossbow scanning the fog.
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

![]() |

Galen calls out to the group, "I can see three figures inside. One is small, a gnome or a halfling. They are blowing some type of horn which is emitting this fog. Approach with caution!"
The original plan busted, the cavalier dismounts his horse.
Move Action to dismount

Reknar |

So no map yet? :D
"We gotta move" - Reknar whispers, then inches closer along the wall.
Along the wall leading to the cave entrance.
Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

![]() |

You dont hunt a bear in its cave.
That advice kept ringing in his mind as he watched the others close with the cave entrance.
You cant get paid if you are dead..."
Also ran through his mind. He pulled up the heavy crossbow and aimed it torwards the cave entrance and got behind it. He couldnt really see a thing but he wasnt about to go through fog into a dark hole.

Reknar |

Reknar continues moving along, riiiiight until he reaches the lip of the cave, then gets ready to maul the first unfortunate bastard to come out.
Readied attack if I get there?

![]() |

Galen draws his sword and moves forward boldly towards the mouth of cave. "Come forth and face as us men, miscreants!" he cries. "No need to hide behind the artifice of fog or trickery. Let us have an end to your menace!"
Galen can draw and move at the same time. Not sure his distance from the foes, but he will advance as close as he can. Let me know if there is an opportunity for an attack this round as well.

![]() |

Galen readies to enter the fight with the shrouded bad guys.
If one approaches within melee range, he swings a readied action
Galen readied attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Dmg, if hit: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

![]() |

"Stupid bandits come out here where we can kill you and get the reward money."
He called out setting the crossbow down and moving towards the front of his cart. He began to ready Charlie to use the cart to perhaps block off the entrance of the cave if they went down the proverbial rabbit hole after them.

Reknar |

I am assuming Reknar has reached the lip of the cave? :D
"They gotta be retreating..?" - he whispers - "Luring us in maybe... Get out of there Galen"
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

![]() |

Galen hears the whispered warning from Reknar, and without turning to look at the stealthy fellow, he steps back from the cave mouth, still holding his sword at the ready.
Move back 20' as move action, continued readied action in case a foe moves within melee range.

Nic "One-Ear" Rockborn |

"Oh, excellent they've moved back into the cave....I've been wantin' to test out my new earthquacky, ground shaky spell. I just like the thought of rock crashin' down....you know on the account that I'm an angry ol'dwarf."
bluff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
He moves to the side of the cave and readies his attack, morningstar, bless: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 1 = 20;dam: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
bless 4/10 rds

![]() |

*lawls* im not really that sort of rogue but okay
"I dont like this."
He said to no one really stopping the cart mostly in the way of the tunnel. He grabbed his crossbow and slowly crept forward in the fog eyes peeled for trouble his ears desperately trying to hear any movement to the fore.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Galen shifts his weight nervously, while watching the candy-maker enter the cave mouth. "It should be me entering there first, instead of that poor man. Now is the time for sinews and steel, not creeping."
The would-be knight edges closer to the entrance, but not close enough to draw attention and make it unsafe for Thorin.
Will delay until we see what happens with Thorin. If he is attacked, Galen will enter the fight.

MiniGM |

Thorin makes his way through the mist
As you get through the mist you see there are two tunnels at the back of the room, and no one seems to be present at the moment. As you turn around you knock an unlit lamp off a crate and it crashes to the ground. Nothing happens

![]() |

At the crashing sound, Galen is off and rushing into the cave as fast as his heavy armor allows, sword at the ready. He bursts through the mist, ready to strike, but sees...nothing.
"Which way did they go," asks the cavalier rhetorically. He bends to the floor of the cavern looking for any sign of the passage of the foes he spied briefly earlier. But most of his training was in the martial skills, not in woodcraft. The floor tells him nothing.
Survival: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Reknar |

Reknar never liked sending the 'scout' in alone. He never liked it, even back in the days of the Badger Company, but it needed to be done - everyone had their place, and if they played it out, things would work smoothly most of the time.
He heard the crash and waded right inside, just to meet with Galen halfway - "Kid's fine" - he nodded at the knight as they ran in.
"Bah two tunnels, anyone able to track? Its clear they are fleeing."
He called back sounding rather annoyed.
"Let's see..." - the large half-orc crouched down, trying to find any tracks.
Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Eeeesh..

Reknar |

"What the...?" - Reknar stares at the signs - "These guys have a sense of humor" - he chuckles - "I say we head Straight to base"

![]() |

"I dont know, why would you put up a sign that says there are traps? Anyone got a light?"
He asked looking for traps down the there are traps here hallway.
perception for traps: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
disable device if needed: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Nic "One-Ear" Rockborn |

Nic follows the crashing sound. "Bah, damn mist!" He kicks the ground. He puffs his cigar a bit more. "Need a torch?" Nick fishes out a torch. "Straight to base sound guud to me. Always push forward...always." He takes a quick look at the stonework in of the tunnels.
Stonecunning +2 bonus to Perception vs. unusual stonework. Free check within 10 feet.
perception, stonecunning: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 = 17

Alexandra Beatrix |

Sorry I haven't been posting. I am super busy and will have to put everything on hold till August 7th.

Nic "One-Ear" Rockborn |

I lit the torch as was handing it to Thorin or Galen. Galen makes more sense if Thorin is trying to sneak. I don't need it. If I have to I will hold it with my morning star out.
Proposed marching order: Thorin 10 ft ahead. Then side by side: Galen and Reknar followed by Alexandra and Nic.

MiniGM |

works for me
Our heroes creep forward into the dim, every 50 feet or so there is a torch on the wall, though it would appear that they have been put out, most likely as the those in the mouth of the cave retreated. The tunnel is quite straight, almost as if it was carved out, not a natural occurrence.
The air is damp and has an odd smell that no one is quite able to place. After about 100 feet there is a sharp 90 degree turn to the right, as our heroes move down it there is a low moaning sound that begins to fill the tunnel. It does not sound natural or savory. Perhaps these tunnels are truly haunted...
DC 12 Will or you are shaken until further notice

Galen Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
At the sounds of moaning, Galen freezes. While glad to stare down a foe in battle, or even take on a fierce beast, the cavalier has always been afraid of spirits and ghosts, things that can take your life away while you can't harm them.
"Something's up ahead, something terrible," the warrior says wide-eyed. "Maybe we should just go the other direction?"
