Hmmm.. you have a point Vicious would be potentially more useful. But I don't think Ashe would seek to have an enchantment that intentionally inflicts ugly, scaring and particually nasty wounds. Ashe is not a hateful person. Igf he ran across a Vicious weapon that he needed he would not refrain from using it, 'Vicious' is just a name after all... not a referendum on the person using it. but Ashe would not likely seek such a weapon purposely..for TO HIM.. it denotes a willing eagarness to inflict harm for no other reason that to inflict harm. Not strictly true.. but to his sense of propriety it does. Ashe is not a vicious person... and he does not wish to utilize... vicious tools or tactics.
It matters more HOW we win... to Ashe.
Furyborn is interesting.. but not worth the stiff +2 enhancement bonus amount to me.

Alright,
now it turns out I can't use a blank slot to summon animals I'm looking for what to get:
1st: 3 blank (have CLW, keen senses, aspect of the falcon)
2nd: 3 blank (have elemental speech)
3rd: 3 blank (have ice spears)
4th: 2 blank.
Happy to take suggestions and comments.
At the moment I'm thinking:
4th; cape of wasps, freedom of movement, ice storm,
3rd; acqueous orb, Ice Spears, Communal Spider Climb, Create Treasure Map (if anyone has the M component)
2nd; Summon Swarm, Bull's Strength, Flaming Sphere
1st; Burning Disarm, Obscuring Mist, Farie Fire

Asherick Whiteplume |

Have we lost both Zalania Sapphros and Jaessa Cornith? Niether has posted in some time. Though the AP IS designed for 4 players.. we seem to have a core here.

Graxer Firebeard |

I grab back my cure serious and lesser rest wands before Jaessa leaves..

Graxer Firebeard |

See if you agree with me here Varrel..
Monstrous Phy 1
Best Pick:
Gargoyle - Gain Darkvision, Flight, Bite and Gore attack..
Monstrous Phy 1
Best Pick:
Tikbalang - Gain Darkvision, Low-Light Vision, Scent, Pounce, Bite and 2 Hoove Attacks..

Graxer Firebeard |

Just noticed i had a typo there.. You cant get pounce until Monstrous Phy II and thats 4th level Magus, so Gargoyle is prob better til then seeing as it gives flight and 2 primary attacks..

Asherick Whiteplume |

Sorry, I've been at GENCON all weekend.. but Ashe was not involved in the Rakshasa interrogation a dubious plan in his opinion.. but he is still adamant that the Rakshasa must die!

Graxer Firebeard |

I have nothing against killing it, i just wanted some info first.. But it keeps getting knocked out so..

![]() |
Yeah, well, if you will keep rendering him unconscious he's not going to say anything (tears up next 2 pages of the AP... but given Ashe's attitude I think I'd be wasting time typing it anyway!).
Did those who went enjoy Gen Con? Never been to the US one, used to help run the UK one.

Asherick Whiteplume |

First, Varrel only thumped the Rakshasa out cold once! Ashe has not struck the creature at all. Ebon only cast one spell at the fiend. So NO ONE is continuing to bludgeon the Rakshasa.. ask all you want. Personally I find Varrel's use of bestow Curse Rather inventive!~
Second, let's keep in perspective what we're dealing with here... this is not just some misunderstood ani-morph 'kitty' furry... its an evil deciveing cannibalistic fiend that only seeks to spread suffering and fear to mortals for its own sick pleasure.
I think it would be out of line for Ashe to have any other view than to see it destroyed. Were it from some outer plane Ashe would be much more willing to ponder negotiations cause it could be banished and sent away where it can no longer prey upon innocent and unsuspecting mortals... but that can't be done - it's a 'native' outsider, and if we loose track of it .. we will likely NEVER find it again... as it can look like anyone else it wants at a whim! Yeah Ashe could stalk the streets detecting for evil ... but there would be no way to definitively know if what he found was just some evil person or the shape-changer... and doing that would not be 'justice' either. Evil people have a right to live as well... until they do something deserving of death. No mortal man has the right to just arbitrarily kill all the 'not-nice' people of the world - a person could be evil and yet never actually do anything deserving of death. No if the Rakshasa escapes our sight it will likely never be found again... but make no mistake it WILL continue to spread its evil... its in its nature to do so.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Its GENCON Fella.. or I would have posted something for sure by now.. but I've been busy. I don't quit. :)

![]() |
I'm still here.
Now here's a thing. Whilst admitting happily that rakshasha are a bad lot, the AP has their leader proposing a deal to the party with the apparent expectation that they'll at least consider it if not take him up on it. My own opinion of the creatures is more in line with Ashe!
Even stranger, they did not anticipate the party making a night raid on the mansion! It's all about how the party is escorted in as guests having walked up and knocked on the door in the daytime. So there's been a fair amount of winging it going on this side of the DM screen :)
When everyone is recovered and ready to continue, I'm still here, never you fear...
... or should you be afraid, very afraid?

Graxer Firebeard |

Obviosuly the writers didn't prepare for super zealous paladins of I beat the fuk out of anything evil.. Sounds like there problem not ours.. Although it does suck that you'll basically have to wing a whole section..

![]() |
It's a bit of an issue with APs... in a one-off adventure you can get away with reasonable predictions of what the party will do, but with a full-blown campaign you are trying to predict likely behaviour for a loooong time. The best resort is to go sandboxy, but that doesn't work when you have a clearly-defined plot... and yet, that clearly-defined plot is one of the strengths of an AP!
The best recourse is to have a creative DM. I do my best, but sometimes I wonder how on earth (well, Golarion) I'm going to get you to intersect with the next bit of plot.
It's not you lot, either. The same is true of all the APs I've run.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Big Grin! <--- Virgo... it can be a real pain in the neck too! :)

Ebon Wings |

It is indeed that I can't cast spells. The form is useful, and is my last wild shape, so I'm reluctant to give it up. Add to that the fact Ebon Wings has used up a lot of his spells and is going into a place there likely to be quite dangerous and even the casting thereof doesn't seem so critical. There is a time pressure on us to do this mission, so suggesting camping seems bad, especially when we all have resources left.
There's also the fact these seem like beatable monsters (though perhaps I'm wrong) and with little complications (like not killing a lot of minions). The Area spells that EW tends to have don't seem necessary, as they might if we were fighting a lot of small guys. Summons seem like the fights would not last long enough and the buffs unnecessary. The rest of the spells are utility not needed at the moment.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Ah. ok. I agree with ALL your assessments.. I was just concerned you were feeling like a fifth wheel! :) If your cool with this that ok.. you are correct.. these foes are nothing Ashe, Varrel and Graxer can't curb-stomp in style!
But Ashe is running out of channels.. and lay on hands..grrr... that's not so good.

Varrel |

Guys, I'm gonna have to drop this game. Hard to maintain interest at this posting rate.
Good luck.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Are you sure? I think its about to get real interesting...
I play almost 10 different pbp games.. half of them not even here. I also play 4 regular sit-down games as well. And yes .. I AM empolyed at a job that does not allow me access to a computer during the day.
I play this many pbp games cause I know sometimes post rates can be slow.. but I've spent a lot of time and thought into Ashe {as I'm sure YOU have with Varrel} and I'm much more interested in a moderate level character than a 1st level nothing.
Just saying .. a slow rate game is easier to keep up with ... every day you may get a cool surprise of a post.. but not be overwhelmed to come home and find 10 to 12 posts and not be able to keep up.
Just My two cents...

Ebon Wings |

This seems to be a fairly normal posting rate in my experience.
I hope you change your mind Varrel, and I'd be happy to try to get the speed up a little if it'd help you change your mind.
But if the speed is ruining your enjoyment of the game, I can see why you could feel that way.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Well we're down to three again. I'll go on ahead and post in recruitment for another player... perhaps someone else we rescue from the Vivified Labyrinth...

Asherick Whiteplume |

Ok.. my vote is for Aerieth and Edmund... I just like their stories! :) Not that the other submission was not good.. I just like those to the most.
But mine is not the only decision! :)

Asherick Whiteplume |

Barring anyone objecting...
Aerieth Deventis & Edmund Gwenn are ready to post... Megan can we get them an intro somewhere below?
Let's get moving...

Asherick Whiteplume |

Waiting on you Megan.. can we get a post?
Also.. we seem to have lost... Zalania Sapphros and Jaessa Cornith for some time now.
And just lost Varrel.
We have four interested parties...
{listed by application order}
1. Uriah Lewis [male, human; Rogue] / DM Niles
2. Edmund Gwenn [male, human; Sorcerer {Sage} ]
3. Aerieth Deventis [female, elf; Rogue 3 / Wizard <Air Elementalist> 5] / Tirion Jörðhár's
4. Cardboard Tube Knight '???'
That's four... I like Aerieth and Edmund... do we have room Megan for a third? Uriah would be a ok addition and the character is complete?

Graxer Firebeard |

I would vote we just get 2.. Even 1 one be ok probably..

Asherick Whiteplume |

Up to you Ebon... you got a problem with three new players?

Graxer Firebeard |

I personally feel 4 people is fine, esp with our gear.. When you get 5+ players combat takes forever..

Asherick Whiteplume |

Have you been paying attention to our fights of late? They do not take forever to resolve. Usually Megan tells us to declare our actions and roll initiative and the just mesh's all the declared actions all into one results post. There is no waiting for others to take their actions... usually the fight is resolved one one or maybe two rounds. And the foes are only going to get tougher.
Plus I personally like the dynamic of the RP of a large party.

Ebon Wings |

Hope the Interview went well :)
I'm torn.
At the moment with 4 players we seemed to be walking over the encounters. I know that's because people are burning resources, but a lot of new players is only going to make that take longer.
On the other hand more players does mean more interparty interactions, which is good.
But if we get a sorcerer and a rogue and a wizard-rogue I think we'll have a lot of people hitting into the same niches. For this particular combination I think three might be counterproductive.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Ok. Valid points...
I think then I'll stick to my original idea.. that I'd like to have Aerieth Deventis [female, elf; Rogue 3 / Wizard <Air Elementalist> 5] as my first choice and Edmund Gwenn [male, human; Sorcerer {Sage} ] as my second choice.
Uriah Lewis [male, human; Rogue] may be an interesting character.. but we really don't need a professed coward when we usually face things head-on.

![]() |
The interview indeed went well - I got the job :)
I start next Wednesday (1 October - also offspring's 18th birthday). Hopefully it will not impinge too much on role-playing, but it may take a few days to get into the new rhythm, please bear with me.

Graxer Firebeard |

Congrats Meagan! Im fine with whomever is selected btw..
