he black mails them. or threatens to make them listen to is singing :)
Dang it, you weren't supposed to tell.
A friend from Church invited me last year to go with him. His father in law works as a Pyrotech for Western Display. He needed some help so he offered is Son in Law and any friends he wanted to bring. I filled out the forms and now work for Western. I just have to call them and ask what shows are coming up and if the certified Pyrotech needs any help.

for next 2 weeks my schedule is going to be vey sparse for game. I just had my seminar/big test to see if I can start practicum in sept. I still have the write up end of it which will be around 30 pages and it is due in 2 weeks on top of all the other work from school. So I may be only checking in and a small post here ad there.
The storms are getting rapidly closer. Someone may take over the telling of that they are estroying everything they come in contact with

Are any of you following the previews for Pathfinder's second edition? I'm hoping I'll have a chance to dig into the playtest document once it's released. It looks like the second edition will keep Pathfinder's focus on character customization, which is a shame from a balance and ease-of-play standpoint but makes creating characters a lot of fun.

I've been reading on it some, not sure how I feel about the whole resonance thing though. It really just seems like a cure for a symptom rather than really addressing any fundamental issues. They brought it up as a way to "fix the cure light wand spam" when really the problem is that playing a healer is god-awful boring and nobody wants to play one. The only healer types that look engaging and capable of doing more than just heal is third party content.

To be honest, I don't see the issue with Cure Light spam. It's tedious and far from epic, but if the GM knows the party will always be at full health, they can make the encounters harder rather than running several in an attempt to exhaust the party's resources.
Wands make healers less valuable, but that's fine. As you said, healing can be a boring role. To do it, you're often spending resources and actions that would otherwise go to more fun attacks and spells, and you're likely playing a class with a bland, number-oriented spell list. Hopefully, 2E will have more balanced spell lists, more accessible ways for healers to heal and fight at the same time, and enough ways to heal that casters will have resources left over for other spells.

Dreamscarred Press handled it in a way that I think is really brilliant, they took the healer and gave it a mechanic that allows the class to heal the party, but also distribute spells to everyone and buff the party even with touch spells at a distance. All of this combined with the class makes a decent combatant making for a very solid healer that actually looks like a fun class to play as.

srry for my absence and unfortunately it will need to continue for a bit longer. I am done with my practicum seminar just waiting for the final ok on the paper work and am currently searching for an internship and practicum site so my focus has been completely there. I have done cover letters for almost 15 companies and a full professional resume as well as staying on top of 14 credits of masters work, fixing a basement from flood damage, and being a full time father. then on top of that, my wife restarted work after 3 months of maternity leave. SO I have been busy. I primise I haven't forgotten you all just have been dead beat when I could post.
SO as soon as my postings will make sense I will post in game. If gragh isn't posting I will bot him as well until he does. I know he ahs been super busy as well.
Sorry wish ya the best

Thanks for the update. Good luck finding an apprenticeship.
Mang, I haven't had a chance to see a Vitalist in play, but I can see how they might make healing more fun. I had a blast playing a psion who only took kinetic and clairsentience powers. Because low-level powers remain relevant throughout the game, the character felt more thematic and internally consistent than the casters I've built, who somehow forget how to cast silent image when major image becomes available.
In general, Dreamscarred Press seems to produce good work. I'd love to get a chance to play around with Drop Dead Studios' Spheres of Power system as well.

It looks fun. I love how easy it is to build thematically-consistent characters. It's an extremely flexible system, so I can usually find a way to realize the concept in my head, whether that be a bard who masters illusions so he never needs to use enchantments, an engineer who creates buildings out of nothing, an inquisitor who strikes down his god's enemies with thunder and lightning, or a spy who turns into animals to eavesdrop on important meetings.
I'm a bit worried about characters' durability and versatility, though. The one time I got my high school friends to try the system, they complained that they had too few power points to pull off cool tricks and too few talents to have a variety of tricks at their disposal.

I'm going to Gen Con to compete in the North American championship for Star Wars and meet some online friends. I doubt I'll be able to post Wednesday through Sunday.

I have run into a few different times that the site is undergoing maintenance
Quinten Gladwell

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've had the maintenance pages come up, and at other times, forum pages take several minutes to load. Hopefully, that's a sign the playtest is doing well.

This is the first time in days I've been able to access Paizo's site. I hope it's stable and we're able to fight the storm soon.

That is awesome Herk, congrats. I was finally able to get in too.

Still having trouble getting in consistently.

My ability to access the forums has been sporadic as well.
Are any of you reading the playtest? If so, what do you think of it?

On the bright side:
1. Character creation seems fun. Characters get a feat every level, so there's more opportunities to customize than in D&D 5E.
2. The math in the game is tight enough that players should be less likely to create a character who overshadows others or has little to contribute, a problem I've encountered in Pathfinder.
3. The action system should limit the number of rolls players need to make at high levels. This is a huge plus for me. When I got to play in high-level games using the original Pathfinder, I'd often spend time between turns making attack and damage rolls instead of paying attention to what was going on. If I didn't, the other players would have to spend several minutes watching me do math once my turn came up.
4. The action system should encourage more movement and allow warriors to do something other than full attack every turn.
5. The feat-based multiclassing system seems to work well for mixing two casting classes, something that is difficult to do in Pathfinder without prestige classes.
Having said that, I'm worried I'll end up disliking the new edition in play. The characters are far more focused than the ones in Pathfinder. For example, druids have to choose whether to improve their animal companion or their ability to wild shape rather than getting both features for free. That's good for balance and verisimilitude, but it's hard for me to get excited about what characters can do.
Two other factors contribute to that. First, bonuses are smaller and less frequent. For example, skill ranks have a less significant effect, with the difference between no training and legendary proficiency amounting to +5 before skill feats come into play. That should keep skill rolls tense, but it also means even the most focused characters will be at the mercy of the dice in their area of expertise.
Second, spells are less powerful. For example, Haste and Slow only affect a single target unless you use a seventh-level slot to cast them, and Glitterdust imposes a 20 percent miss chance on opponents rather than blinding them. Utility spells such as Invisibility generally have shorter durations, and particularly powerful ones such as Teleport are harder to obtain.
The net effect is the characters feel less powerful. If the designers polish the math behind the game and do a good job of balancing options as they publish splat books, that should make running easier on the GM and lessen the need to dramatically alter the story's scope as characters advance. Hopefully, the three-action combat system will add enough variety and fun for players to compensate for characters' lower power.
