Lightning Lad Once the crisis is over you may return to your fact finding to learn all possible about the two Science Police expeditions,the planet, and other requests you have.
Wildfire Unless I'm told differently, I assume you reboard the ship.
I then use my Diplomatic Relations; Government Procedures and Interplantetary Law to get all data logs of known data for the government science departments that and thier inquiries prior to sending out the teams; any team logs or journals transmitted back; all so we dont have to re invent the wheel. I additionally request the teams search areas and what gear they took with them as well as profiles of all team members who were assigned to the search as well as those assigned in support.
Lightning Lad, the investigational data which you sought prior to the recent crisis begins to compile. As of thus, you learn the known statistics of the planet, the mission purpose, location of arivival and some details of the first team sent. Similar information is available concerning the second team. They were sent in search of the first team. From a planetary investigation view, team 1 was far more qualified. Planetary data doesnt show any native life; no cities or structures; yet everyone, except their two newest Privates, on this team has intensive training in interpersonal skills, cultures, and suprizingly many anthropologists. This has me conclude that there is information that is not being released; I find it highly probable that we are dealing with a hidden, advanced culture either dead or still living. They might be xenophobic and wish to remain hidden; these wierd spacial anomolies would be a good way to hide. It would not appear they are overtly threatening to the area; no reported banditry. We may want to consider how we can get our team out and still protect their anonimity. If this is the case; this could be a tight pickle.
My second hightest probobility is an alien artifact; perhaps some device left on; might have defense capabilities; still, I cant think of any reason to have this kind of field unless you wanted to hide something. So if it is not some science experiment gone arwy; might be also some type of prison.
Air is not breathable; to much Oxygen; use extreme care with anything that may cause a fire; results should be greater than normal.
I thought we might attempt to trace the Police Details trail to find them; but suggest other measures if you like. As a fall back plan; I have made a grid of the area with a search pattern; laborious method; but may be needed.

You exit the wormhole with no further incident and a time lapse of 2 hours and 24 minutes. You now find yourself in open space. Activation of the warp engines grants you all the speed necessary to fly through this sector. Your meeting arrangements with Star Boy remains on schedule and you should arrive soon.The known gear for Team 1 was standard for both survival and acheological exploration. The space suits taken enable the atmosphere to be properly manipulated in order to retain 1 week of survival. Rations for 1 week were also taken. Minimal weapons were carried as well. The archelogical equipment included various scanners to determine depth, height, range, inward mapping, identification of materials, approximent age, as well as digging tools. The equipment taken serves to provide data of the planet itself as well as structures that lie within. Nothing out of the ordinary appears on the equipment list of the team 1. Team 2 took signifcant weapons, and 1 month of survival equipment and space survival adapters to lengthen their stay.
The Science Police are the United Planets means of protection from any inward and outward threats. They are divided up into many branches which further define their specific pupose. The vast majority of Science Police serve as the galaxies military and local police forces.
Space exploration is also part of their purpose. They also have their fingers in many other fields, some which could be questionable.According to the Science Police files, there have been numerous disappearances within the space sector as Engalent 8 was appraoched. This planet has always belivedto be "dead" and of little use other than the discussion of eventual mining. The orders to investgate the planet after receiving multiple reports of missing ships and adverse weather conditions upon the planet, General Chang of the Planetary Investigative Branch called for Team 1 to investigate. You should be able to reach him at Earth. In the Legion Universe, it would be common for the Science Police to investigate such encounters as well as privately funded groups. If there are other details concerning their interest in the planet, they have yet to be given to you.

In the past its been used as a manner of preserving life for medical reasons in addition to serving as a prison for others.
Not only will it prolong his life but he has also become very dangerous, as he currently has the powers you once lost. I saw holo-vids and the extent of these powers are at Kryponian level, perhaps even higher. His current room is made of inertron but its only a matter of time before he breaks through. I don't think it is going to hold him indefinetly. His current mental state is explosive and needs to be handled immediently.
I'd like you to continue your current assignment. Supergirl is with us today so we'll tackle the situation. Keep in mind that according you Dr. Sorgee he will need medical samples from you in order to properly treat Gabrien.

Yes you can fly above the cloud if you wish. As for landing, essentially the terrain below you are mountains which emerge out of what appears a highly vegetated area, perhaps similiar to a forest or jungle. In the far off distance is a great body of water.
As you pass over the highly vegetative area it reminds you of what might be a forest or perhaps jungle. There does not appear to be any openings in the vegetation for easy landing.
The vegetation meets the mountains. Herein you see several suitable landing areas. The size of your craft is small giving you a distinct advantage in landing. The base of the mountains seems to also be the source of radiation that has made things difficult for you.
On the far side of the mountains is a great body of water, an ocean you suspect. Landing on calm waters is also an easy task.

You find a suitable landing place, a small clearing amongst the thick vegetation located at the base of the mountains. The vegetation is filled with far more wonderous colors than most planets. The trunks of trees are multi-colored, the leaves similar to that of palm trees of Earth. Giant flowers fill the lower part of the canopy growing amongst the tall grasses. As you look upwards towards the mountains you find it difficult to see the orange colored ground that you were able to pick out from such great heights moments ago.
As you make a computer scan of the local area, checking for living creatures, it is clear to you that the radiation is affecting the ship to the point that little if anything can accurately be determined. There are no signs of wildlife based on your scans.
If you choose to depart from the ship you will most likely need a survival suit in order to adjust to the planet's atmosphere. Without the suit, you may get by (you think) but everything you attempt will be laberous and far more difficult as you would struggle to breathe properly.
The dark cloud which had formed above the mountain range continues to thrive, based on appearance it might be composed of dust or dirt, with the exception that it does not have the orange tint to it. As you observe, it doesn't appear to be moving towards you, just remaining where it is making a circular motion.

Invisible Kid You know that many "dead" worlds are often mined if they cannot be properly populated. It appears that Engalent 8 falls under this category. According to your reseach, brief exploration of the planet occured for mining purposes nearly 70 years ago but nothing became of it because of the unstable planet surface.
You know that planets go through a series of develoments before they are capable of sustaining most life forms, be it animal and or vegitation. There are just a few planets capable of developing other forms of life, such as beings composed of rock and crystal, gaseous beings, and so forth. Such planets are a very rare exception however. At the mid stages of planetary development, the surface is often unstable and yet to house most life forms as you know it. It is entirely possible that Engalent 8 is in this stage. This is common information though.
What strikes you as unusual is that from the time that Engalent 8 was looked at for mining purposes (70 years ago) up to 4.3 years ago, there are no reports of missing spacecrafts or radiation emitting from the planet. It is possible that the radiation results from natural planetary development that has been over looked by scientists. After all it often takes a few billions years for most planets to develop to the point of sustaining life and scientists could not track a planets constant development because of their (scientists) short life spans. Alternatively, the radiation phenomenon could be unique to this particular planet.
You do feel that since the radiation has been reported to disrupt communications that other systems may be affected as well. If this is the case, the best opportunity to acquire accurate data would be finding the limitations of how far the radiation emits and attempting to scan the planet shortly before this distance. This will make the scanning more difficult but any readings obtained may be more accurate.
Very little information can be found on the weather phenomenon and such reports come from those who considering mining the planet so many years ago. What you do learn is that the weather was changing so quickly in areas that it seems to defy the laws of science. The planets surface was examined through scanning an area would be subject to one weather condition (artic for example) and within a few hours, that weather could change to temperate to subtropical to tropical. This type of advanced weather alteration has never been reported elsewhere.
In addition, reports indicate the planet suffers from a variety of dangerous conditions such as clouds of poisonous gasses, black water falling from the clouds which may have acidic properties, turmoil within the two oceans which rise and receed at incredible rates. Gasseous expolsions on the surface are also indicated in the reports. Because of the constant and radical changes to the planets surface, the actual ground is ripped apart from and severely scarred. Winds are reported to obtain speeds of up to 300 mph. Finally there are continous geological resurfacing of the planet taking place due to volcanoes, earthquakes, flooding and underground gasseous explosions.
As for your Anthropolgy check, there are no reports of natural or alien life forms visiting the planet (with the exception of the mining previously discussed). If there were any beings natural to the planet they would have to be able to survive the planetary conditions, have found a way to avoid these hostile areas or be beings composed of some sort of energy (such as light) which would be immune to such conditions. You do know that there are beings throughout the cosmos which could survive, they are just very rare. There is one other possibility that occurs to you as well....though it is unlikely....the planet itself could be a living being.
Engalent 8 has no moon (which in itself could casuse havoc with the planetary conditions).

Brainiac decides to acknowledge the ship that is hailing, while glancing at the data he received on the other ship while making an intelligence check
(for basic intelligence check or if it would better fall under bypass computer security systems )to determine if it was feesible for him to hack the computer of the other ship without their knowledge and disable their weaponry in order to best elleviate the problem at hand.
(If the check to see if it is possible is successful then I would make a Disable Security Systems check adding in my knowledge of advanced alien technology as needed )

Obelisk Do I have a survival suit in the inventory?
Yes you have a survival suit available. There are many kinds of suits, some provide protection from various types of conditions, others are designed for specific types of atmospheres or climates. Virtually all space suits are designed to protect against the cold (space) as well as provide modifications to breathing.
Your suit is fairly standard and inexpensive. It will adjust itself to provide suitable oxygen content for space for a maximum of 12 hours before requiring recharging. According to your instruments, it will provide 21 hours of protection within the planets atmosphere before requiring re-charging.
Re-charging requires you to return to your ship and replace its battery which handles all of the modifications necessary as you use the suit.

Mountains lift upward at this area as well. The radiation readings you receive indicate that it is the same type which can be used for healing purposes. Based on your understandings of the radiation readings, it should prove harmless to you though it is definently the source which interferes with scans and communications within its range. The entire planet has many surge points where the radiation is the strongest. There are thousands of surge points upon the surface which of the planet and can be seen on your screen.
