Vanna Barahal |
You know what I just realized. A band of people with super powers bands together to stop an alien invasion. That is the same premise as the Avengers. We're the Avengers.
Professor Quinto Addermire |
So has it been more or less than 40 minutes since combat started? This makes quite a difference for me.
Grey, the Lady's dog |

Why is it, I always get 'the Hulk', in these things?...
Scientist Lisa |

There is a difference between "a really big sword" and superpowers, my friend.

You told me that if I failed my will save that I was not going to be Victor anymore, go ahead and have the mindless ape tear her apart, and let me know when I am Victor again.
No worries, I'll wait,
Puts on "Girl From Ipanema" on the stereo, and starts reading "Boy's Life" Magazine
Grey, the Lady's dog |
Objectively, how much time has passed while this is going on? Equally importantly, is Grey bound or not? Because if not, he has been continuing his ritual to call up 'Great Mastiff' & then things are going to start getting interesting.
Nixie |
From the time you woke up maybe 2 minutes have passed. You could conceivably be transformed.
Grey is bound, but the transformation to Eidolon will rip the bonds.
Figit's mage hand works too.
Scientist Lisa |
It doesn't, though. Not that kind. Thought it was just ordinary rope.
Professor Quinto Addermire |
Potions don't work any differently for me than anyone else, but investigators have the exact same Alchemy feature as the alchemist class, where they are basically off-brand wizards with their own spell list, right down to carrying around what are essentially spellbooks (with the ability to copy compatible spells out of wizards' spellbooks even). Just with the odd quirk that it only takes them 1 minute to prepare a spell, and that said "prepared spells" are in the form of odd little liquids they drink when it's time to cast them.
That said, the closest thing to baleful polymorph on the list is Beast Shape I (mainly because without this one wacky discovery, everything I do is self-only) which I couldn't cast for another 3 levels, but I can't very well NOT play up the ol' scientific curiosity now can I?
Scientist Lisa |
You could take a level of the Vivisectionist archetype. They get Baleful Polymorph.
Grey, the Lady's dog |
Unfortunately, no he can't. Not unless they removed the rule that an Investigator is both an Alchemist & a Rogue for the purposes of Multiclassing, I.E., he can't take levels in either of those classes as he is already taking levels in them...
Scientist Lisa |
That's something that should immediately be house-ruled away. Lots of great concepts come from these new classes multiclassed with the so-called base classes.
Professor Quinto Addermire |
I'd imagine they'll have their own groovy archetypes once the actual book is released.
Nixie |
Dam I love ya'lls post rate. I want to post bad but I gotta go to the store and get everything I need to make giant bubbles in the park tomorrow. Kids go crazy for these things: BUBBLES. Real life alchemy, haha!
Professor Quinto Addermire |
Sounds like you have priorities pretty well in order there.
Also I suppose the local mad science gal is just kind of being subdued and restrained by sheer force of will as everyone forgets she's totally still right there?
Grey, the Lady's dog |
It is entirely within the realm of possibility that Great Mastiff just shoved her into the wall hard enough she got stuck...
Scientist Lisa |
Ooooh, let's go with that. It'll be funny when Arael finds her and blames it on me, and then I have to convince her that no, really, it was this human child right next to me - hey, where'd he go?
Grey, the Lady's dog |
Particularly given that she has also blamed you for Great Mastiff's crimes before. He 'killed' the Robot, remember?
Scientist Lisa |
if I die, I wish to be replaced by a Halfling cavalier, who would totally have a thing for Victor. We can say that she was in the pub when the Castrovelers came.
Nixie |
You know, every time I put a group of PCs at a physical map crossroads like this the game literally STOPS. It's so interesting. I wonder why it is? I think maybe players are afraid of saying "I go here" and no one else will follow them! I've completely stopped Dming pbp dungeon crawls because of this. My only thought for making it work would be to designate a "leader" when we have dungeon exploring to do, who will pick directions. Other than that, I can't think why map based dungeon crawling just doesn't work in pbp...
Scientist Lisa |
I think everyone's gone to bed at this point. That might be it.
Nixie |
That's cool. I guess it was just one of those questions that's bugged me for a few years. Victor will have a good answer for me tomorrow.
Well I'm up. So. Crap. Guess i'll go find some beer.
Professor Quinto Addermire |
Really, I'm just giving people who haven't chimed in in forever a chance to speak up... also deciding what to prep and how any slots to leave open for relative emergencies. Prepared utility casters are tricky like that.
Victor Jankowski, Private Eye |
What map are we supposed to be looking at? Because the one at the top of the page still looks like the Dome Encounter.
Also. To the other players. There are some crazy abilities spread out among each of you, really dynamic. But, it's my opinion that if we are going to have a chance at taking down Arael, we need a solid plan. I'm useless in a direct confrontation with something that I need to roll a 19+ to hit, and then even more useless doing d6+2 damage (unless I can get the whole Rogue damage bonus to work, but really it wouldn't be what I think we should do). So my thoughts are this. When we confront another "group" of adversaries, Lisa and Grey should charge right in going right after the most serious threat (either a big 'bot, or Arael if she is available). Vanna, and Elai should team up (focus on a small group of bad guys, or work buffs that compliment each other) and Celes should stay close to those two as support. Figit and the Professor should stay close together, buffing Vanna and Elai if they can, and be ready to pull them out if they get into trouble, then Vanna and Celes should be able to pump in finishing damage when it might matter most, and I will shadow Celes, to keep minions away from her. What do you guys think?
Professor Quinto Addermire |
I expect more wacky shenanigans than big ol' fights, at least in the near future. I can still pass some buffs out though.
Scientist Lisa |
I see nothing but wacky shenanigans for at least the next week, real-time. We ALMOST beat Arael, though! Victor, why are you so unoptimised for combat~!
Celes Sontiri |
Well Celes is the only healer, but all her damage so far is in the form of touch attacks. Her highest at the moment being 2d8+4. So I'll have her stick back and heal as necessary. This a typical battle formation? If so I'd feel more comfortable if they talked about it In Character.
Grey, the Lady's dog |
First; great, Captain America is a rogue in our party...
Second, yes, those are good ideas.
Finally, as somebody stated, I went to sleep not long after my last post. Don't worry, Grey will go somewhere, I just have to get ready for work.
Victor Jankowski, Private Eye |

I like to think that it is not that I am "unoptomized" for fighting so much as that I am optimized for being "Victor"
Grey, the Lady's dog |
By the way Victor, as near as I can tell, you have no languages listed on your character sheet. What languages do you speak?
edit: Of course, neither do Celes or Vanna...
