Iago of Amaunator |

"Good friend Arvhil," Iago whispers, "I was wondering if you'd like to lead the next fight if I cast shield of faith on you. That will make your armor nigh impenetrable yes? I feel that I might hold to your flank and aid our side with Amaunator's divine power. What say you..?
I'll prep that spell to cast on sight of the enemy. Bonus action +2AC concentration for up to 10 minutes

Iago of Amaunator |

The Turmish cleric gathers himself, chants his sacred prayer and brings the shield of his God to guard Arvhil. The paladin glows with a golden aura briefly before the power settles. Iago looks calm proud of the result
"We're ready."

GM Kip |

Arvhil swings the door wide charging into a small room, ahead is another door to the south another curtain. The curtain twitches aside, a tall red faced Hobgoblin glares at you all baring yellow sharpened teeth, he grabs the hilt of his sword and starts to draw it.
The Hobgoblins are to the south on the map below Arvhil's position for those that can't see them yet.

Well, hello ugly. You wouldn't happen to be the pretender king of Cragmaw Castle, would you? she sends into the tall red-faced hobgoblin's mind as she sends her magic streaking out.

Ràghnall MacGuaire |

Ràghnall lets his arrow fly at the sight of the hobgoblin.

Felicia's crackling energy arcs towards the Hobgoblin, narrowly missing and blackening the stone wall.
The hobgoblin catches Arvhil's flail on his sword, snarling at the momentary tangle of weapons before pulling his sword free.
Ràghnall's arrow skitters on the wall, missing the hobgoblin.

Rothwillian draws back his bow string releasing an arrow that flashes past Arvhil and buries itself in the hobgoblins thigh. The sword slips from his hand and he collapses to the floor.
The remaining hobgoblin runs to open a door to the west in the room, yelling something in Goblin as he runs through it.
Goblin: " Intruders! Intruders in the castle! "
Arrow on map shows the direction the hobgoblin ran
Room Description:
A stone brazier full of coals glows in the middle of this small barracks. Four straw pallets are lined up along the east wall. The wall to the south has collapsed, but a barred wooden door in that direction is still clear. To the west is the open door the fleeing Hobgoblin ran through.

"Get after them before they have a chance to rally!" But then the Cleric stops to ponder and addresses the group,
"We need to be smart to survive here, the odds may well be against us. Be prepared to fall back as needed to take cover. Let's try to target them with magic and arrows before we engage in melee... but in the meantime let's chase that one!" Iago says pointing at the back of the fleeing hobgoblin

GM Kip |

Is anyone going to take any actions this round or should I just assume you're taking readied actions to shoot/attack incoming foes?

GM Kip |

No worries, I'll give Arvhil 24hrs from my last post to check in before bottling him for the round. Sorry for the delay in the game.

GM Kip |

I'll assume readied actions to attack any oncoming enemies then.
Seconds go by, somewhere in the castle you can hear a door open and a goblin barking orders, the clatter of dishes and then the sounds quieten to the soft pad of a goblin boots approaching, or the chink of steel armour.
The door to the east opens, just a crack, a dark, elven featured face peers out, then the door starts to close.
Roth, Raghnall and Felicia could attack this new enemy with a readied bow, or spell. Iago could reach with his mace too.

GM Kip |

Bad day for dark elves checking to see if the coast is clear...
@Ràghnall: Unfortunately you can't take a bonus action right then as when you ready an action to attack you actually use your reaction to make the attack.
The Elf reels back from your onslaught, then retreats back from the doorway, leaving it slightly open.
A roaring bugbear wearing bear hide armour and brandishing a spiked warhammer, rips the door all the way open and swings at Rothwillian.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Piercing damage: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10

Save V Command: 1d20 ⇒ 6
The Bugbear's eyes glaze over as Iago issues a command, with a powerful voice.
Reading the spell description it seems it doesn't take effect until the bugbear's turn.
Felicia tries to fire a blast of Eldritch energy past the Bugbear at the wolf, but the blast smashes into the door frame splintering the wood.
Roth cries in pain and carefully withdraws from the Bugbear's reach.
@Roth: As a rogue you actually can take the disengage action as a bonus action so you could still attack or take a different action this round.
@Arvhil With Rothwillian withdrawing there is room next to the Bugbear if you wish to jump in and attack this round.
@Ràghnall I hate to do this when you've just rolled a crit but attacking with a ranged weapon in close combat is done at disadvantage so you need to roll another d20 and take the worst.

Rothwillian sees a curtain to the south ripped open, goblins yammer as they rush into the room brandishing various kitchen implements.

Iago manages to spin and block the Hobgoblin's sword in time and only one arrow manages to hit him, flashing past his face, nicking him below the eye.
Iago Needs to make a Constitution saving throw DC10 or lose his spell on Arvhil.

Felicia turns, slowly, to face the creature that saw fit to attack her. Her mouth moves, as if speaking words, but she is silent.
A song reminiscent of finger nails on a blackboard being spun in reverse over the shriek of a starved baby slams into the goblin's mind.
Casting dissonant whispers on the goblin immediately in front of her. DC13 for half damage. Fail and take full damage and they have to run away as their reaction.
