Felicia turns to hobgoblin 2, the proud new owner of her hex. She grins slightly before lobbing a poorly aimed sphere of eldritch energy at him.

Iago swings his mace, aiming for the hobgoblin's side but it clashes with a loud metalic ring on a shield.
Rothwillian fires an arrow that flies true, hitting a Hobgoblin in the shoulder, but the arrow doesn't pierce the chainmail armour, bouncing off and falling into the grass under the feet of the combatants. So close!
Arvhil advances on his foe swinging his flail low, it crunches into the Hobgoblin's leg, leaving it mangled with bones possibly broken...
1d2 ⇒ 1 Hobgoblin 2
A sphere of crackling energy flashes past the hobgoblin Arvhil is fighting, the goblinoid managing to dodge out of the way, limping on his injured leg.

Felicia watches as the hobgoblin approaches her. As he comes alongside, his murderous intent clear, she whips her quarterstaff off of her back and slashes out with it, aiming to catch him unawares on his temple.
Spending inspiration to try hitting him with her stick. If she manages to hit, he also gets a face full of hex damage.

Iago doesn't like the tricks of the Hobgoblins and attacks the one that tried the feint against him. The deep furrows in his brow drag his ochre painted spots down into dark orange "vee's" as with great concentration he seeks a gap in his opponents style

Hobgoblins are hard to hit...
With a hobgoblin closing in on her Felicia draws her quarterstaff and swings it smashing into the goblinoids temple! His eyes roll back in his head and he collapses sideways to the ground.

Calling on the power of Tyr, at rail of white hot flames springs from the head of Arvhil's flail! The Paladin spins the flail at one of the Hobgoblins but the hobgoblin ducks beneath the weapon.

16 Damage is certainly enough. Hob 5 is dead!

Iago of Amaunator |

The town is still and quiet. A drunk, scruffy man with a red scarf tied about his arm, snores on the verandah off the Sleeping Giant tavern and an oil lamp still burns dimly outside the front door of the Stonehill Inn.

Ràghnall MacGuaire |

That would have been 2 castings of Hunter's Mark, since we took a short rest in between. The spell only lasts for one hour when cast using a 1st or 2nd level slot. Rangers only recover spell slots on a long rest.

GM Kip |

I thought so. I forgot to mention in my last post that by the time the party reaches Phandalin Rothwillian is back on his feet (on 1 Hp)
A few minutes after knocking on the Inn's door it's opened a crack revealing a sliver of the innkeeper Tolben's worried face.
" Who's there? Oh it's you, thank goodness. I was afraid the Redbrands had come back. " He says, opening the door fully and ushering everyone in quickly before shutting and bolting it. You notice the right side of his face is battered and bruised.
" You were successful in rescuing Master Gundren I see! Sildar has kept your rooms paid for and they're waiting for you upstairs. I'm afraid I can't offer you any food or ale though, the Redbrands raided my Inn earlier and took almost everything! "

Iago of Amaunator |

"What? No food and drink? It can't be so..? Tell me you have something for us? We've come so far and through such hardships as you cannot imagine," Iago is beyond tired, his strong legs about to give way.
"Please Toblen, bring us to the rooms. We can eat our rations and rest. My companions need rest... These 'Redbrands' take our meal and mead..? He flexes a large fist in anger but everyone is sure that the big man will soon topple under the weight of the last days

Felicia Erkana |

Felicia, exhausted from the trek without a doubt seems to burn anew at the mention of the action of the Redbrands.
They steal from... you see light bits of fog start to rise from her fingertips once more. They steal from villagers doing nothing but working for a living. They will suffer. I will see the light fade from their eyes as my Patron welcomes them into the cold abyss of nothingness. This I... she yawns slightly, her exhaustion overriding her fervor for justice. ...swear by the gods.
With that, and her eyes weary, she trudges to the stairs, starting to undo her travelling garb even as she makes her way to the room.

Arvhil |

Arvhil almost collapses as the door is opened and the group let in.
"I fear that, at this moment, there is naught we can do to help, but rest assured that we will confront these villeins once we have recovered from rescuing Master Gundren."
The paladin retires to his room, where he falls into an exhausted sleep.

Ràghnall MacGuaire |

"I think even my hair hurts right now. Let us get about half-day's sleep and we'll go have some words with these people."
"They took all the ale. I could cry."
Ràghnall stumbles to his room and collapses.

" That's alright, I don't plan on staying more than the night. I'll need to set out tomorrow and find my brother's campsite. " Gundren replies.
" Sleep well, I'll do my best to have breakfast for you when you wake, I should be able to get some eggs, and fresh bread. And don't worry about the Redbrands, I'll go see the townmaster in the morning, I'm sure he'll have to do something now... " Tolben says as you each slip into your rooms and drop exhausted into your beds.
You wake late in the morning to warm sunshine streaming in through your windows, you can hear the noise of the small town, already awake, and the bustle of noise from downstairs that is hopefully Tolben getting your breakfast ready.

As Ràghnall awakes he spends a few seconds sorting the noises he's hearing, he doesn't pick up on anything too unusual but amongst the noises from downstairs he hears the worried voice of a female.

Felicia Erkana |

Felicia staggers downstairs, still obviously tired, wearing only her thin sleeping sheathe. She is totally oblivious to anyone else at this point. Her hair is unkempt and she wipes sleep out of her eyes as she makes her way to a table near the edge of the space.
Long days and shorter nights. Stupid forced marches. Stupid fighting hobgoblins. What I wouldn't give for a candle, a good book, and a stiff brandy for a few days.

Iago of Amaunator |

Iago follows Felicia downstairs. He has bothered to make himself presentable. He'd dressed in his tabard, breeches and boots and painted the three ochre spots on his forehead as his culture dictates.
The Cleric bears a haggard look and a tremendous hunger. To keep a man large as Iago healthy you need a considerable table. His grumbling stomach hopes there is plenty more than bread and eggs.

GM Kip |

As Felicia comes down the stairs she's greeted by an empty common room, followed soon after by Iago. There's no sign of Tolben but after a moment Trilena, Tolben's wife, comes through the door to the kitchen. Her eyes are rimmed with red and she looks tired and worried. She swallows several times and wipes a wet cheek before speaking.
" You're up, er, can get breakfast for you? " her voice is a little hoarse. " Tolben got some bread, cheese and eggs, there's no bacon, the Redbrands took that, but Tolben managed to get a chicken from Alderleaf farm. So there's some fresh cooked if you'd like that?"

Arvhil |

Arvhil struggles to wake; his body sore and stiff. He forgoes putting on his armor and leaves his flail leaning against the wall where he placed it last night. Slowly he dresses and heads down stairs.
"Sorry for being late. Feel like I could use a few more days just resting and working these kinks out. How is everyone else?"

Ràghnall MacGuaire |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Ràghnall staggers downstairs, looking disheveled. He walks down the stairs slowly, a combination of joint pain and trying not to loosen his assorted bandages and wraps.
"Food? Save me some. I should make it to the table in about 2 more hours." he grunts.

Felicia Erkana |

Felicia nods at Trilena. Some toast and eggs would be lovely. Along with whatever you have warm to drink, if anything. She says through yet another yawn as she drops heavily into the chair.

Iago of Amaunator |

"I feel as though Ogres have walked all over my back and legs! Some food will do me the world of good though..." Iago sets about devouring any food near him but then pauses thinking that his greed might mean that Trilena and Tolben would go hungry
The Cleric gains Trilena's attention and invites her to sit alongside them. In a low voice he asks, "Trilena would you mind telling us more about the Redbrands. What kind of people they are, where they live... Who is their leader? My companions and I would like to hear all you can tell us about them. You have been kind and generous to us and I wonder if there is something we might do for the people of Phandalin in this matter..."
