Just kidding, someone tell me what you want but make it quick. I'm hoping I have enough to recap and will do so in an hour or so.

Vandomir was not here last time; tieflings are 'native outsiders' (not human).

So I have: a) Caleb and Eirik trying to sneak in and b) everyone else waiting (at least 100' away for stealth/silence purposes).

I'll go with that unless I hear otherwise...

Out of curiosity, how much effort/time would it take to pull some of the boards off of the windows? Haven't read the turn yet so it may be a moot point, just asking.

I will let you know smash open a window if you wish.

How do you want to handle Star? Will she act on your initiative or do we roll for her own? You'll have to roll handle animal check...

Best to have her go on mine.

i will use a CHA check instead of Handle Animal

Charisma: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3

Although this is why I tried giving her the Command before combat, so I could effectively "take 10" on the check.

One of the major failures of the d20 system… it's almost impossible to take an enemy out silently, with a single strike. Either the stun does it or the enemy will at least be able to groan aloud…

Detected immediately. Figures. Eirik sighed at their rotten luck even as he rushed forth, attempting to make good their failure and silence the lookout before he could rouse what friends he happened to have around. The portly monk, faster on his feet than the thiefling, cut off his escape route and slammed one lightning-shrouded elbow into the man's temple, hoping to knock him out with the first blow.

Melee, unarmed: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Damage, unarmed, lethal: 1d8 + 1d6 + 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + (2) + (1) + 1 = 6 Plus Stunning Fist, DC 14

Use Eirik's high move to get between the enemy and escape, and hit him with everything Eirik's got. Too bad the dice aren't on my side here...

Are Longstrider and Urban Grace cast? As I said I'd like to cast them way before, especially Longstrider given it lasts five hours.

Did we get Ioun torches? I thought someone worked out the Tiefling's darkness spell would render them all permanently useless if they were ever caught in the area unless we got them cast by a cleric at a cost of more like 205gp. Normally you can't dispel a magic item permanently like that, but the light part of an Ioun stone is just the spell.

Yes, Longstrider and Urban Grace have been cast; I meant to update that and forgot.

No additional lighting elements because a) OOC no decision was ever made and b) IC there was not enough time to get anything special made given Rexus's immediate danger.

Guys, I hate to do this but we really can't take too long to make decisions. I'm willing to concede 24 hours for planning/discussion as this is good roleplaying but then only 24 hours more for someone to make a decision. Will it the best decision? Maybe. Will someone be pissed off because they wanted something else? Maybe. But as the saying goes... the show must go on and I don't want to lose momentum in the game.

This is where I think having a leader, even if a rotating one, is important.

I'll recap shortly.

It's gotten a little easier now and could become easier still depending on what Eirik and Caleb decide to do.

Yeah, why not? If you do enough non-lethal damage, the guy is knocked out and he won't recover that non-lethal damage for a while.

But remember that you can't coup de gras a 'stunned' character, only a 'helpless' character.

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

True, and I forgot that Eirik's determined to shut up the gangsters for good this time... Just a full attack on the poor fellow, then... Sorry for making this short, bit pressed for time ATM.

Murmuring a prayer to Abadar, thanking the god for the good luck and lamenting the need to take a life, Eirik smashed his fist into the side of the thief's head twice, hoping to put the first opponent down for good before his friends came looking for him.

I can see the players OOC need a leader, in that we spend a long time making sure everyone gets to say what they want to, and debating issues. Not sure it is something they'd want IC for most of the characters.

This 'rotating' idea could have legs though! Even a committee of equals appoints chairs, right?

I'm not a big fan of a leader... only played (well, GMed) one game where the party had a definite leader, but that was because one character owned an inquisitive agency in Sharn, and directly employed the others.

Besides, in this case, we all form a leadership of the Ravens. I don't think selecting one "more equal than others" suits the setting, though we could have the various leaders having dominion of their own field... but those fields aren't very clearly defined, at least not in the player's guide.

Can I assume that Rowan and Vandomir will flat out run to get to the middle building or will you be taking some precautions? You are about 100' north of the north building.

I'm torn. Rowan would like to get there as soon as possible which would require no precautions. However, she's naturally cautious and knows that the tieflings like to ambush based on their previous interaction. I guess what Rowan would do is run into the building but if she gets to a blind corner, she'll pause and take a peek around the corner before proceeding.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 Movement

One problem with this rapid execution… I wasn’t really keen on assaulting this particular building, since we knew it’s just an empty space with a tall ladder to the roof… anyone going up there is asking for a kick in the head unless we have the surprise. But I didn’t catch this in time, so let’s just roll with it…

Caleb wrote:

The roof was 20’ high, wasn’t it? Would take only an Acrobatics roll against DC 50 to get Eirik’s upraised arms to that height ;^)

”I hear movement,” Eirik whispered. ”So much for secrecy.” He glanced at the tall ladder leading to the trapdoor – only one person able to make the ascent at a time, only to become the immediate target of anyone awaiting up on the roof. ”We can’t afford to get up one at a time,” the monk murmured. ”Since they know someone is here, we need to storm the roof quickly. If someone else takes the ladder, I can use my rope to get on the roof at another point, perhaps catching the enemy unawares.”

male

The roof is made out of tiles (tiles on top of wood frame).

Most of Redroof ’s homes and small shops are built
from brick and tile made from river-dredged red clay,
rather than Kintargo’s iconic white limestone, giving the
neighborhood a distinctive look compared to the rest of
the urban sprawl to the north and west. Redroof ’s brick
buildings fare worse than limestone in the cold winters
and hot summers, but are significantly more affordable
for Kintargo’s middle and lower classes.

FYI: I'll be out and about all day and may not be able to post until this evening when I intend to move this along...

Just for curiosity's sake... what kind of a check would it be to toss a grappling hook on the roof without being detected? I'm pretty sure Eirik could scale a 20' wall in a single round if he had a rope to climb.

The young mage suddenly had a very nasty idea and laughed, "This should be fun." She chanted and made several gestures, when she finished a cloud of dense fog appeared from the trap door down cloaking the ladder. She then moved out of the way so she would have a screen from incoming foes.

Caleb wrote:

No offence taken – you can’t have good character development without some inner conflict, I feel. Besides, while he’s generally a nice, gentle guy (who just happens knows how to kick you so hard your liver pops out through your nose), he has all that LN-bastardy in his personality profile. It’s good for the people for Thrune to fall -> to manage that a rebellion is needed -> no-one else seems willing to do the job so we must -> the Jills are a threat to the rebellion, for they likely have interrogated Rexus and know too much about us -> they cannot be allowed to tell tales to the government -> there’s only one way to absolutely guarantee that.

Eirik will feel awful about it later, but he will act now for the good of the many, ignoring the needs of the few (namely himself and the Jills).

Anyway… lots of ways this can go, but since there’s so many people inside and someone clearly got down out, might as well take Eirik outside – he’s got the best chances to dodging the flying menace’s spells and won’t be much bothered by arrows… at least as long as they won’t come in droves. Besides, the whole darkness business might be a feint until someone actually charges out from it.

Tillia, good call with the fog ;^) Way to turn the enemy’s advantage to mutual hindrance!

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 To try to determine if anyone is coming down the stairs at this point. Likely won’t change Eirik’s action, but if he hears something definite, he’ll holler.

Listening for the sounds of someone trying to follow the darkness-bringing coin down the ladder, Eirik turned his attention to outside. The whole thing might well be a feint, intended to focus all their efforts on the obvious threat while enemies got down on the ground and prepared to strike from both sides. And the sounds of bodies falling clumsily down was something he was sure of.

”I’ll check the south side,” he grunted, sprinting past the others, skirting around the corner, still holding the rope and grappling hook he had been readying to use.

Follow-up depends on what happens… Assuming there isn’t anyone visible outside after all… I believe Eirik’s single move can take him up to the NW corner of the southern building, if I understood correctly how large the doorway is…

Eirik emerged from the building running, ready to engage the enemy, but found no-one to engage, against his expectations. Perhaps the enemies were merely stumbling when leaping from roof to roof, he reasoned. Seeing as he had the rope ready at hand, he rushed to the wall of the southern building and tossed the hook up, wincing at the clatter but at least the hook lodged itself into something solid.

Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Dexterity: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Assuming there are people on the ground… if he can reach them he will attack, if not he’ll double-move and very likely can engage them in melee. If they landed with crossbows in hand, they might waste a round switching weapons…

Eirik emerged from the building running, ready to engage the enemy, and finding the sources of the sounds of heavy descent crouching in the tiny alley between the buildings. Determined to stop the thieves before they had a chance to spring whatever ambush they had planned, the monk rushed the closest foe.

Rowan was not surprised when the coin fell through the trap door since Vandomir had heard someone casting a spell and the warpriest was pretty certain she knew who that someone was.

Hearing what she assumed were tieflings making noise towards the south building, Rowan wanted to move back outside to see if they were fleeing to where they were holding Rexus. However, before she left she wanted to bolster the others to help them in their fight. Calling for Milani to bless the group, Rowan said her prayer.
