Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

"I should take a middle watch, as I have darkvision"

Female Human Oracle (Life) [Planar Oracle] 2

Crashing through brush and thicket with all the grace of a pregnant deer, Caylen emerges into the clearing picking brambles from her robe and boots, one eye squinted shut and leaves tangled in her hair after a few clumsy falls.

Presuming that discussion of watch and other responsibilities should be left to the people trained for such eventualities, the young woman settles down at the base of one of the large trees, slinging her modest backpack off of her shoulders to clomp down on the hard ground.

After a moment she offers a squint towards the Drow at his assessment of watch timing, then looks up to the sky through the canopy overhead. She says nothing, though, to be contrary to the dark elf's assertion. Instead, she begins unrolling a coarse wool blanket from the top of her pack. After a moment of struggle to unfold it, she drapes the large blanket around her body as she sits with her knees pulled up to her chest, back against the tree, watching the others.

Male Human Monk

"It would be best if you took the last watch Silx. We will rest through the day time hours and begin traveling at dusk, when your sight will be most needed."

Male Human

The farmer steps forward, after securing the horse to one of the trees.

"I'm well rested. I'd be happy to take the first watch, though I welcome any company to pass the time with," the farmer speaks as he smiles broadly.

Female Human Oracle (Life) [Planar Oracle] 2

"I'm not tired yet," Caylen notes to old Samuel cheerfully, if perhaps a bit sheepishly. "I'll keep you company. Besides, it feels like it's too cold to sleep comfortably anyway..."

At that thought, Caylen looks around the group with furrowed brows. "Can... anyone start a fire?" There's a small, hopeful, cast to her request.

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

Silx inclines his head "Last watch it is. I shall be over by...that tree when my shift comes"

Male Human Monk

Mal'c nods.

"Thank you Silx. Looking at the farmer and Caylen. And thank you Sam and Caylen for taking the first watch. I'm afraid we can't risk a fire. I do have a warm cloak that you may use. Mal'c retrieves a cloak from the group's supplies and hands it to Caylen (Cloak is +1 Fortitude saves to resist cold).

Male Human

Perception roll for Caylen (during the watch).
Sam's (the farmer) perception roll: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Male Half-Orc

I will take middle watch, any company is welcome as well, Aak responds with a toothy grin.

"Darkvision. I will take another middle watch, or share watch with the Drow if that works better."

Male Human Monk

"I'll share watch with Aak, you may share watch with Silx." Mal'c nods toward Shayne, before preparing his bedroll. He turns to Caylen and Sam before laying down.

"Wake me in a few hours or if anything concerns you."

First watch: Caylen and Sam; Second watch: Aak and Mal'c; Third watch: Shayne and Silx.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Perception rolls for everyone (for watches).

filler of waterskins

Perception 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3

Once only Shayne and Silx are awake, Shayne gives the Drow a conspiratorial smile and begins to talk...

I'll start that conversation once we actually get to third watch chronologically.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Roll for Caylen
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Male Human

Caylen:
Sam turns to you, "I'm glad you decided to come with us. Seems like a quite night. What do you think of our fellows?"

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

Perception1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Male Human Monk

After several uneventful hours, Sam wakes Mal'c. Mal'c wakes Aak.

"It's our turn for some daylight. After climbing a tree to look into the distance. So tell me friend, what brought you to this valley?"

Perception roll for Mal'c: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

A means to an end I guess. I was a product of an "unholy" union, not of a demonic kind but and unwanted variety. I travel only to find answers and protection. My mother was accosted by a tribe of Orcs and out came me. I was cast aside as a weakling and was to be nothing. It was my mother that gave up herself so I could have a chance to be something. I travel and fight for her I suppose. Protecting those around me like she protected me.

Aak looks up to the sky for a brief moment, wondering if her decision was worth it, wondering if she is okay or where she may be

Sorry for the rambling, what brings you to these parts Mal'c?

Female Human Oracle (Life) [Planar Oracle] 2

(earlier)

Leaning closer to Sam, Caylen's eyes are focused out towards the others with that borrowed, heavy cloak wrapped around her shoulders atop her own. Her tone in response to the old farmer is as hushed as his was.

Spoiler:

"I hardly know them. They seem kind enough, if a bit trusting. But they worry me, that they're on the run from someone. They say this Tolin is a scoundrel of sorts, but it is their word alone we take on that. But... I don't feel any reason not to believe them. I just..."

Caylen sighs softly, then shakes her head and closes her eyes.

Spoiler:

"The orc-man and the dark elf make me nervous. Even if they're much kinder than the stories say... it's hard not to remember them all the same. The halfling seems nice enough, though. A good song can go a long way to ease frayed spirits."

Male Human

earlier

Spoiler:

"You are right not to give your trust immediately. nodding Though I can't say for sure, I trust the brother. I've never had a reason to distrust a monk. Many a time when things got rough, they came through the ravaged land I'm from with food for those with the most need.

Male Human Monk

Listening intently to Aak.

Spoiler:

"An all to common tale. Pausing thoughtfully. They were from one of the nomadic tribes I take it? The monastery has records of encounters with orc. Perhaps we might be able offer you some clue. Carefully considering Aak's question. I've been in this area much of my life. I joined Burand in the keep at his request. He and his comrades have been tracking Tolin's movement. They knew he was in the area. Though the monastery is several days travel, I came into town only two days ago. "

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

I think so, I was too young and not understanding much when I was cast out. On a related matter, who is Tolin, other than a man bent on destruction and power? Is there anything else that drives the mad man to do what he does? I wish to learn as much as possible about the man, should I ever come across him again in my travels. Or if I MUST face him to get my own answers in life.

Male Human Monk

Looking into the distance silently for a moment. Mal'c begins to speak without looking at Aak, while he scans the distant horizon.

Spoiler:

"Though he arrived in this area at least a year ago, he and his men have been heading west for some time. I cannot say where he came from. I only know that somewhere to the east he and his followers have a refuge of sorts. They blame the desolation that has spread over much of the eastern parts of our fair lands on those like you, Silx, and Shayne. They claim that if the land is 'purified' than the desolation will cease and the land will be resorted. These claims are false, but they use them to inspire the hatred and loyalty of their followers."

Male Human Monk

Several hours later Mal'c wakes Shayne and Silx.

"Time for the last watch. It's been quiet so far."

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

Silx jumps a little and grips his knife; he was surprised he slept so heavy "Good, thank you" He readies himself to take watch, getting some peppermint leaves out to chew on. He offers some to Shayne "Gives you something to do and keeps you awake"

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Seems quiet. 2nd perception roll for Silx and Shayne.

Spoiler:
Horse perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27; Another roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Perception1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Stealth1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Silx:
Something has made the horse very upset. He has whinnied several times and keeps sniffing the air to the southeast.

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

Silx motions to Shayne, then points to the southeast. He gets some cover and attempts to see what has upset the horse

Perception1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Stealth1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Silx:
Though dusk is approaching and the cover of the trees has covered the area in shadow, you can see clearly that there are two wolves sniffing out the horse tracks. They are around 75 to 100 feet away from what you can tell.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Perception rolls for everyone.

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

Silx's face goes white "Shayne, there are wolves here, wake the others" Silx draws a dagger

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

The sound of the horse wakes Aak and Mal'c. Aak overhears something about 'wolves'.

Male Human Monk

Mal'c stands slowly and looks toward Silx.

Quietly Mal'c asks, "What's happened?"

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

"I believe a couple of wolves have horse on their minds for dinner"

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

Since his armor is light, he would have just slept in it.

Aak stands and draws his weapon and shield. Looking around to see if anyone is still sleeping, he will go over, wake them, then guard over them until they are prepared.

Male Human Monk

"Wolves. I don't know if we can out run them. It seems a shame to leave the horse to them."

Mal'c seems to be considering options as the rest of the group wakes.

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

Silx raises an eyebrow "Normally I'm the first one to offer a retreat but I think we can manage some wild animals"

Male Human Monk

"I agree. Those unsure about a fight could even find safety in these trees. Looking at Silx. Would you prefer to stay here for cover or look for more open ground?"

Male Human Monk

Smiling broadly at Aak.

"And I'm sure you would stand your ground anywhere when called. An admirable trait to say the least."

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

We either stand and fight or we run...but we will do it together

filler of waterskins

Sorry, have been traveling home from vacation. Now home, but busy getting the car and house in order.

Shayne will take out his whip and stay back, but support his allies with Inspire Courage.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

No worries. Long break wrapping up here for the family also.

Initiative rolls for everyone. I'll get a battle map worked up Sunday. I'll do initiatives for anyone who's missing Monday and we'll get things going then. If there are in character tactic suggestions feel free to toss those up before then so I can amend the map accordingly.

Female Human Oracle (Life) [Planar Oracle] 2

Sorry, had a busy last couple of days!

Perception Roll:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Initiative Roll:
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8

If I don't get a post up today Caylen is going to try and scramble up a tree since she is not really a melee person, but with a climb modifier of -2 she may need to be rescued from imminent toothy wolfdeath, which should be fun! :)

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Mal'c will make a point to help Caylen up the tree (+4 to the check).

Male Drow Rogue (Trapsmith) 2

Init1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
"Oh I'll be hiding just over there, I'll jump one of them" He finishes with a smile

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

Init 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Aak will also help get Cay up the tree while providing cover for her and the group :)

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Looks like the battle plan is made. I'll see if I can get the map up tonight, but tomorrow for sure.
