The Skulls and Shackles AP is a Sea Based piratey adventure that will see you shanghaied at the start of the first book, and forced to work on the decks of the Wormwood, the flagship of Free Captain Barnabas Harrigan.

now for the important bits

Jolly! Great! Grand! Now let's get into character creation guidelines :
-=ALL PLAYERS MUST USE THIS FORMAT FOR THEIR CHARACTER SHEET=-...-= CHARACTER SHEET=-
i cant stress how i spend so much time trying to understand all the different ways people set up their profiles so i made a template. all the formatting is completed just edit and add hyperlinks as wanted...
Level: Characters will be starting at 1st Level.
Stats: 15 point buy for stats. You may be heroes, but you are still goblins! Play up your flaws!
Hit Point Generation: Max every level no one likes to die...
Classes: Pretty much anything officially released by Paizo is fine. i am manly looking for thematic characters more than filling roles remember gobos fear the written word but like drawings and tattoos so i wizard would work like that as long as the book was kept hidden or all spells ware tattoos/scars ^_^
Races: almost anything with the goblin sub-type im not sure how many there are so if i have not heard of it ill look at it and give a nod or shake
Alignment: Any, but you should keep in mind I don't like player conflict unless it's natural for it to happen and fun for all but, please just don't kill one another.
Starting Wealth: Full for your class at first level but you do not start with access to your gear, as per the AP.
Traits: Everyone will begin two traits of their choice each player may take a single Drawback to gain a third trait. Traits should be part your background and feed into your character's overall narrative also one trait must be a goblin trait that works with your character.

Applicants are expected to agree and adhere to the following::

- You must be a daily poster. Preference will be made for those who show higher activity on the boards and a history of PbP activity. I will strive to always keep the game moving and expect players who will do the same. I am usually online during the day and post mostly in that window of time between 6gmt and 6pm gmt, so that is when my most active hours will be. Obviously things happen, so I do understand that at times you might be unable to post, or I also might be otherwise detained. If that happens in the case of a player, I will allow a reasonable amount of time before GMPC'ing you along.
- If a player fails to post within a reasonable amount of time without notifying the group that they will be unavailable they will be moved to inactive status, removed from the active game, and replaced with another applicant. I am taking this one seriously folks and I won't let an inactive player ruin it for everyone else. So understand what you are committing to before you apply. If you will be away a few days, let the group know and give us some standard marching orders for while you are away. The game will go on, but at least others won't be waiting for you.
- You must be willing to ROLE play, not just ROLL play. The GM feeds off of the players, so a good group of role-players helps the game take on a life of its own. You don't have to fill every post with three paragraphs describing how you took your morning coffee, but you should be able to write well and play your character well. If I find all you do is post "I follow Bob, my sword ready" and post a lot of "Gug gug, I'm a barbarian" (unless you are Gug the Barbarian) type stuff, you will be summarily removed from the campaign, tied to a hippogriff, and flown over a field of elven archers for target practice.

Your Application should include the following::

- A complete character stat block, hidden in you post using the spoiler tag or posted as an in-character alias account. If you do not know how to use this tag click on the button below "Submit Post" of your reply that says How to format your text. For a PbP game you should be familiar with all of these tags anyway.
- A character background.

bit from the players guide Characters of almost any race or class can be found in the
melting pot of the Shackles, so long as they have a reason
to embrace a life of piracy. In fact, the only class that is
probably not a good fit for the Skull & Shackles Adventure
Path is the paladin, whose alignment restriction and code
of conduct are in direct opposition to the themes of piracy
and plunder in this campaign.

The background must be written in the first person, as a goblin would tell it! This is going to help show me who can really play up a goblin for what they really are. Be creative! I can tell you right now that this piece is what will get you picked over someone else. The more effort you put into this, the more I will want you at the virtual table.
- A brief note of your posting habits or schedule. If you are more available or likely to post on specific days or at specific times, let me know. Your posting habits here on the forums will be checked. Your post quality will be examined. And I will probably even look at some of your other characters to get an idea for how you interact with other players and carry yourself in a group. Hopefully this will allow me to provide the best players with the best companions. A win/win for everyone.
-That's it! I look forward to seeing what the responses are and to finding that special group of players!!!
-Recruitment will last until I’ve found a good candidate that I like, so the early bird, with a good application, gets the worm!

House rules:

i will be using these alternate rules
* Combat Expertise, Deadly Aim, and Power Attack are no longer feats, but simply combat options. They may be done freely by anyone with the requisite ability scores. Also, Point Blank Shot is no longer a feat. It’s just a natural consequence of being closer to your target. Please, still declare when you’re using one of these options though, for clarity’s sake.
* The Improved [combat maneuver] feats no longer have as prerequisites Combat Expertise (Improved Dirty Trick, Improved Disarm, Improved Feint, Improved Reposition, Improved Steal, and Improved Trip), or Power Attack (Improved Bull Rush, Improved Drag, Improved Overrun, and Improved Sunder) because those feats aren’t feats anymore. I would love for combat to be more dynamic and cinematic than just a hackfest.
* Combat Maneuver attempts only provoke attacks of opportunity if they fail, or if the target of the combat maneuver has a greater feat in that maneuver than you. (no feat < Improved < Greater) Same as above, maneuvers make combat more fun.
* Creatures under a fear effect receive a new save each round to decrease the fear effect by one step. (shaken < frightened < panicked) No one, not even the GM, wants characters taken out for long. Shake it off and get back in the action.
*I will roll initiative for combat and post the order. Everyone can post their action as they are able and then I will string them together into a cohesive narrative. I’ve used this before and imo it’s the smoothest way of doing it. This may mean I have to make some minor calls on your behalf (you attacked monster 1, but it’s dead now so I’ll just have you attack monster 2). It’s just faster than waiting for everyone to post what they rolled.
* I will use each player’s passive Perception score (10 + bonuses) at all times, UNLESS a player indicates that they are actively searching something or being especially vigilant for something in particular. It just keeps things moving smoother. And I’m not a stingy GM with searching stuff anyway. I’m not going to pull the “You did SAY you look there!” nonsense on you.[ooc[]as such please include a passive perception line in you name bar so it shows in your post[/ooc]
*I realize that this is a fair number of house rules. I have only included rules that I believe will contribute to the style of game that I would like to run. If you have questions/concerns with any of these, please, speak up.

About me...:
I've been gaming for about 20 years and DM/GM a vast number of games in different settings and rule sets. I have only ran a few PBP and i really want this one to go well and last for a long time hopefully the whole AP ^_^

I will have to give this some deep thought...or is that un-goblin like?

Also, you have a typo in your thread title.

Dotting with extreme interest. I was a little leery at the 15 pt buy but all the house rules more than make up for it.

Debating between a gunslinger, alchemist or Druid. Should have something up tomorrow.

Question on the backgrounds: any adjustments to the Campaign traits, do we have certain common shared aspects of our background (i.e., from a certain tribe), are we still pressganged from a tavern or something different?

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

Definitely dotting in. Not sure what I want to play yet, there are so many options that a goblin could screw up royally in the best of ways. :-D

Would having played through the AP already bar me from entry? It was about 2-2 1/2 years ago that we started and we're just about to finish, Honestly just looking for a "not dodgy looking" goblin campaign.

If it's not a problem then I have an idea for a fire kineticist goblin, who's a real lovebug but often forgets to turn down his heat before snuggling up to others. That or a goblin bard because I've come to find I REALLY like coming up with goblin songs.

I have ideas. I only dislike posting in a new alias because of Alias bloat. But that's my preferences.

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

Yes, I'll also point out up-front that I've played and GM'd Skull & Shackles, but I'm sure playing as goblins would make it different enough that it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm thinking a goblin Investigator. Trying to decide between Dread Investigator and Psychic Detective. :-D

Dark Archive

har har har, me mateys, will have a character up asap

Kraleck, my goblin evokeR from 3.5, WILL LIVE!!!

I'm all for it if there's multiple players that want to make a combining background to give them more of a solid history together a reason to Adventure together and possibly not betray each other that's great Leeds in the story help me make this game or personal for your characters

As for changing the campaign traits what you have in mind as I mainly just what the traits to really be part of your character...(dont the bullied traits and not get angry when you feel like someone is trying to bully you again)

Also every one let me know if these requirements are far to strict i manly want us to have fun ^_^

My only thought was about the Campaign traits was how likely it would be that a "civilized" town would let a bunch of gobos into a tavern together. But I can roll with whatever you want to put down, just wanted to see if you wanted us to take a modified approach. I'm easy.

And I can definitely work with 15 point; just makes classes that depend on multiple attributes a little tricky. But like you said, part of the fun will be playing characters with weaknesses we can ham up.

Oh right well yes its true that most people will be apprehensive about gobilns walking about but i see them as a half daemon as long as you dont gove a reason people wont have to kill you in twon...but as for out side of town ^_^

---===Background===---:
(Writing this First Person so the usual convention of bolding speech would just create a wall of bolded text, so instead I'm using italics to set aside actions/descriptive text. I imagine the scene here as Sloog telling a story to a group of assembled goblins.)

BANG! Foosh! Fire shoot out from the magic stick and den Mogmurch's head pops like rotten mellon! SPLOSH!

Look on Mogmurch's face as it 'sploded... Hah hah! So funny. But dis stumpy fellow with the beard and the magic stick... his stick not go boom again! He stop, he pull out little bag, little pellet, little tiny stick to poke into the magic stick... And he doing dis with his two sticks... Sloog pantomimes a sexualized imitation of sticking a rod in a hole, sticking out his tongue as the "rod" goes in the hole, eliciting cackle of delight from the other gobos.

Now, Sloog brave like big bag chief gobo but not dumb like some gobos. Sloog want to learn secret of booming magic fire stick. So Sloog hide...

BANG! Foosh! Den Reta's chest go all 'splody! We laughed and laughed... then she died. And den the stumpy beard start dis thing with his sticks again, and all the other gobos go running. But not Sloog!

Sloog learn trick! So Sloog sneak up behind stumpy man, like dis... Sloog begins to "sneak" behind the circle of goblins assembled around the fire. When he sees some roasted dogmeat stuck on his peg leg, he stops to eat it, picks some bone from his teeth, then continues his "sneaking" before he stops behind Lugdorg... he'd never liked Lugdorg.

And den I stab stumpy guy, like DIS!!! He slams a fist into Lugdorg's back, pushing the other goblin into the fire, bringing the rest of the gobos to uproarious laughter while Lugdorg scrambles about to put the flames out.

So, stumpy guy dead and now... I has his magic stick! Sloog draws the pistol from his waistband for all to see. Just then, Lugdorg has managed to put the flames out and screams in rage at Sloog... so Sloog shoots him in the leg. As Lugdorg collapses in pain, falling back into the fire, the rest of the goblins again break out into hideous peals of laughter.

Now, dis magic tricky tricky. Take Sloog long time to make more 'splody powder... He takes a handful and tosses it into the fire where it flares in a dramatic display of pyrotechnics.

But now, Sloog know secret... and Sloog is great hunter with magic stick. Now, you all 'member when Sloog little gobo, Sloog was finding treasures on the beach when water dog with big mouth bite Sloog and take Sloog's leg. He points to his peg leg, nodding his giant head as if this signifies something of great importance. The other goblins do the same. So, Sloog will go find water dog that bite off Sloog's leg! Sloog go on many longshanks' boats to help kill water dogs and other longshanks. Sloog kill many water dogs, but not yet find one with Sloog's leg in belly. But one day, Sloog will find water dog with Sloog's leg... and den... BANG!

---===Appearance and Personality===---:

Eyes: Red
Hair: Mostly bald but some stringy black hairs
Skin: Mottled green
Height: 2'11"
Weight: 33 lbs

Other Character Concept Notes:
Working with the drawback, I see Sloog as paranoid and distrustful of everyone, including (especially) other gobos, but he's not an idiot, either. On a ship, he knows it takes a large crew to keep those things working (even if he hasn't learned how to do it himself just yet), so having a crew is part of surviving. That's how I see him not getting into intraparty conflict.

At second level, I see him picking up Profession (Sailor) and start putting ranks into Stealth, but for now I just don't have enough skill points to go around. I figure he's just relied on his native abilities for sneaking but will decide he needs to develop them further, and so far, to the extent he's been on a ship, he's been a runner and lookout.

About Me/Posting Habits:
I've been playing and GMing Pathfinder and 3.5 in F2F games since 2007, and then 2nd Ed. AD&D long before that. In college, I was really into MUSHes/MUDs, including a World of Darkness MUSH. If you're not familiar with those, they were entirely text based but live... you would play contemporaneously with other people who were also online at the same time. I started getting into PbP only recently, but you can check out my posts here as GM and player well as a character I started playing on another board (link); I play Ursk, a dwarf barbarian. You'll see I haven't posted there the last week except in the OOC area because we're in combat and have been waiting on the GM.

You can expect me to post at least once a day. In fact, I usually have to force myself to sit on my hands and stop posting so as to not hog up the board. I live on the East Coast and have a full-time day job as well as a toddler, so I do have some RL limitations, but the beauty of smartphones is I can generally check in and post whenever I have downtime.

Also, to other players, personally I'm a big fan of having some shared backstories. Let me know if you see anything here you think could work with your own character and I'd be happy to weave their stories together somehow.

This sounds extremely fun, and I've always wanted to play an all goblin campaign. There's so much fun you can have with goblins, especially with classes that you wouldn't normally see them in. I once had a female goblin character that used to be a dancer, but was shamed in front of a crowd for being a goblin. She took to wearing heavy armor with a tower shield as a result. haha, the tower shield was so much fun, because the DM ruled that you could do kickflips with it if you rolled a high enough acrobatics. Anyways, I'll put together something in the next day or two, and it might be something that goblins wouldn't normally be.

On a side note, how long will recruitment last? (I didn't see it in the main post, but if it is you can bop me in the head)

@reallifecorn that sounds like a fun character and thats the type of fun i want to have in this game.

Oh and the recruitment will last untill i find the 5 characters i like. I would choose only 4 but as is the nature with pbp in my experience as a player its normal to loose a player. That way i can keep the game going with just 4 untill i find the right 5th to replace the lost one

@snowheart. First quick read and im loving your character seems like a great gobbo

And hay i understand about the young one, my son is 4 months

Honestly? I figure that the first chance we get to command our own ship (I assume that happens) we should name ourselves the PiRats! Tiny Terrors of the Seas!

@RealLifeCorn. I like that idea :) maybe I should build up a Siegebreaker fighter who wears heavy armor and a tower shield and aims to bull rush people off the side of the ship >:)
GM Bone Man, would you be willing to allow me to shield slam and bull rush with a tower shield?

Either that or some sort of high perception, Wis based class and sit up in the crows nest on lookout duty. Gobos are perceptive little buggers!

This sounds like a lot of fun. Thinking either a granny goblin monk or witch.

You can already rush woth a tower shield but since the weapon is so heavy id say...we will create a feat tower bashing= you can bash with a tower shield 2d6 for medium and lower/raise it depending on the size of the user. But it take one round of recovery to lift that massive thing back unto a fighting position. So you attack with it and spend a full round recovering from the effort

Just came up with the song for my gobo, I find it helps me get a feel for what I want him to be.

Scruug goblin song:

Scruug is here and going to hug,
All of you 'ol silly lugs,
Say it hurt? THAT NO TRUE!,
Srcuug will hug on all of you!

Hug the pup and hug the child,
Hug real tight till they go wild.
You say it burn you in the chest?
NO! SCRUUG HUGS ARE THE BEST!

Make Scruug mad when run away,
Don't you know I want to play?
Going to burn you if you do,
Scruug make fire like you make POO!

Edit: Scruug is also taking the attached drawback and I'm going to roll to see which of you people he gets attached to. Gods help you.

So I could do 1d4 damage with a small heavy shield once per round, or,
I could do 1d10 damage on the first round and then spend a round resetting my weapon.

You know, since this is a goblin game I am going to have to go with the second, more silly option :)
But man my feat wishlist is long :(
Tower Shield Bashing and Imp Shield Bash for starters.
Shield focus into Mobile Bulwark Style.
Agile Maneuvers...
And the Siegebreaker archetype replaces your bonus feats. Hmmmm...

That just made my day :)

Much obliged. ;)

Well, time to whip out this fellow again.

EDIT: Ok so seems hes not even remotely finished yet, gonna have to do a bit of work first.

Me present... ME!

EDIT: Oh, here a song me sing

Translated from the original Goblin
Enemies me'll slash and cut
Send them to meet Zogmugot
She goblin goddess of the sea
Me help she and she help me
Zogmugot's this pirate's queen
Draped in algae red and green
Me reward for sickle's slash
She give me she favorite trash
Favorite songs to she me teach
Washes treasures on me beach

Ah, regarding some of the goblins being together...It seems to me like only a moron would pressgang (can I use that as a verb) goblins. So I was thinking of a few alternate scenarios.
1. It is, in fact, a moron impressing the goblins, like a hobgoblin or something. Might also work with a lazy hobgoblin (I was told to bring workers... you didn't specify)
2. The goblins are stowaways. Perhaps there was a container with food or something that they broke into that was brought aboard. Or they could have snuck aboard, eaten their fill, and fallen asleep on the ship.
3. The ships commander specifically asked for goblins (reasons unknown).
Anyway, those are a few ideas I had. You're welcome to any or none :)

So I could do 1d4 damage with a small heavy shield once per round, or, I could do 1d10 damage on the first round and then spend a round resetting my weapon. You know, since this is a goblin game I am going to have to go with the second, more silly option :) But man my feat wishlist is long :( Tower Shield Bashing and Imp Shield Bash for starters. Shield focus into Mobile Bulwark Style. Agile Maneuvers... And the Siegebreaker archetype replaces your bonus feats. Hmmmm...

Sorry i had a thought about it and it should be 2d6 at small size and up it as needed for size. That should balance the lost round well...and about the feats at least witu my rules you dont need to worry about bullrush unless you want more of a advantage ^_^

Ah, regarding some of the goblins being together...It seems to me like only a moron would pressgang (can I use that as a verb) goblins. So I was thinking of a few alternate scenarios. 1. It is, in fact, a moron impressing the goblins, like a hobgoblin or something. Might also work with a lazy hobgoblin (I was told to bring workers... you didn't specify) 2.

As it stands i am changing some characters to be more gobliny like the ship captain with the whip is a hobgoblin ^_^

Wow dude the more and more i read you characters story im drawn in to it your definitely the kind of player i would to love to have welcomed to the crew *kicks goblin on deck and throws a bucket at it* now swab the deck

and happy Easter or happy Sunday if you dont care

LOL. <puts bucket on head (where else would it go?) and starts swabbing>

Thanks. Don't know if it was clear, but the subtext I was trying to go for is he's a survivor of the longshanks' genocidal aggression in Sandpoint. But, if accepted and depending on how you want to set things up, the names could be swapped for something else and it could just be a generic tribe.

And, likewise, Happy Easter or happy Sunday. :-)

oops. I left off his archetype...Kraken caller. I think the ability to sprout tentacles is freakin' awesome

Dotting, how long is recruitment open for? I've got an idea for some sort of goblin alchemist, because that seems to be basically the only class I play these days. Will try and get something up tomorrow.

Behold! The mighty goblin wizard, Kraleck!! Tremble before his arcane power!!!

Gnaly does not fear the deep
she'll freeze your balls and make you weep!
be good to her and she'll give you ale
piss her off and she'll make you pale!

My submission for this. I'm new to PBP here but have played on ENWorld, Mythweavers and RPGGeek for years. I can post daily and also run PBP games. In fact, am running We B4 Goblins right now on RPGGeek. I love goblins and have the Goblins of Golarion PDF, which inspired the character of Gnaly. Have never played or GMed Skulls and Shackles.

My character concept is a cleric of Zogmugot who's the lone survivor of her tribe. She works as a mender/healer/maker of alcohol, and is looking forward to join a group of goblins in raiding the seas.

"Gods damned... these goblins must have pissed of one HELL of a wizard..." One traveler whistles to his companions.

"Hehe, little ankle biters got what was coming to 'em. Got a cousin who lost his whole stock of chickens to the little s&@&s." scoffs to his companion.

"Yeah... its just, that burning is REALLY thorough . not a speck of white left on those bones..."

Tried to be a little unique with the background, jist of it is, scruug goes find new tribe after all ^^^ happens.

Edit: He also needs some small touch ups but nothing to major. Just some skill clarification, perhaps some additional linking and such.

---===Background===---:

I don't recall much of my childhood. A few pictures, images, of stuggle, pain, and brief flashes of relief when I managed to get a full belly. No, my memories start when the humans opened their new factory. We lived down slope from a human city, my brothers and I. We would sneak in from time to time and steal, food, pets (also for food), whatever. They threw stuff in the sewer all the time. We had pretty easy pickings. And then the strange liquid came flowing down the sewer. I didn't think it would bother me, I mean, nothing else in the sewer ever did. But over time, I noticed myself changing. And not just me, all of us. That's when he found us, Splintr. I think he was a ratman; I never really asked. He certainly was very rat-like. He took pity on us and dedicated himself to training us. He taught us to speak properly, he taught us to read and write. And he taught us to fight.
To test our new skills, we began to roam the city at night, picking fights with the low-lifes, dealing with those the city wouldn't, or couldn't, deal with... the pesh dealers, pimps, thieves. We really felt like we were making a difference, though we never showed our faces. That all changed when a new warrior arrived. Clothed in spiked armor and calling himself the Shreddr, he defeated us and took over the criminal underworld. In a last ditch effort, we set a trap for him, leaving me out in the open, while my brothers lie in wait. But he saw through our ruse. I was hit from behind. When I awoke, I was alone, on a raft, far from my home. I found a note in my pocket, in Master Splintr's hand writing. "Stay away" was all it said.
So now, I'm alone, lost in a strange place. I guess I'll have to make due. Perhaps if I find others of my kind...

Raph is not a normal goblin. The chemicals he was exposed to greatly affected his memory. He remembers nothing of his early goblin life, and has no experience interacting with regular goblins. His culture more closely resembles that of marginal human populations. In fact, he has very little idea what goblins and their society are really like. He may be in for a rude awakening.

Well there has been few fun characters put forward in as many days. Your all just missing the about you part of the submission i want to fet a feel on who you are as a player.

So I've been trying for a few days to make an alchemist that's different from my other alchemists, and I've decided to scrap that idea. Currently looking at bloodrager, and if all goes well I'll have something up later tonight.

Edit: Maybe something else that doesn't get a penalty to one of its main stats, now that I think of it...I adore goblins but sometimes it's impossible to build certain classes.

Kraleck's page is updated to include further information on me as a player.

About me you ask? I knew I had forgotten something.

About this guy right here:
I like to think I'm pretty layed back, I mostly post reactively but I've been known to take the bull by the horns to get us back on track every now and again. I like playing characters, and I will act exactly as I suspect my character would act. I also find sub optimal strategies fun to pull off, the kind of thing where your banking on a twenty to pull some hilariously unrealistic stuff (suplexing a dragon is often my first thought when it comes to this.)

So basicly, I post as long as the game keeps moving though I can take initiative if need be. I like roleplaying and rollplaying equally and will joyously partake in both, And I like crazy stuff. though the fact I'm looking for a goblin game probably gives that away! Haha.

I don't think I'm going to have time to work on this, so unfortunately I won't be submitting a character. Have fun, guys!

Raph's player:
Looong time gamer and lover of roleplaying. I like to have fun with characters and settings, such as playing the super-powered ghost of Elvis or an enthusiastic pet dire wolverine. I actively check boards, some might say obsessively, and respond/post pretty frequently (Wednesdays are my long days, so I'm a bit more constrained to the late evenings). I love the over-the-top, insidious yet hilarious feel of goblins in Pathfinder (and am so bummed you can't use them in PFS). The home rules you've described give this a sort of Feng Shui vibe that I think I can really work with.

I understand sometimes its hard getting out of your comfort zone with less stat points to toss about. But i have found it can be really fun playing a character with suboptimal stats. Also the blood rager had a nine spellcasting archetype
