Miranda maintains her position south of E'li, arms herself with her crossbow, and takes a moment to set up a bolt.

The wily goblin survives the bumbling Pathfinder crew's assaults. Celdrexen steps gingerly forward and tries a careful shot into the melee. The concussion rattles the equipment throughout the lab -- and when the smoke clears, only a hole in the stone above the goblin's head remains of the tengu's effort.
The goblin plunges its shortsword into Shawn's thigh as he lies on the ground. A spurt of blood flashes over a delighted goblin grin.

The team decides on the right door and find themselves in some sort of cremation lab. A huge iron stove stands to one side, and hundreds of labeled urns brimming with ash cover the walls.
Beyond is a vast chamber filled with rows and rows of dark-lacquered mahogany shelves containing thousands of texts.

Masym advances cautiously into the room, on the lookout for more goblins. "They probably set an ambush for us here. We need to make sure the area is clear before pressing onwards." He whispers to the others.

Beyond the library a strange metal cage lies sprawled in the center of an empty room like a great, undulating, skeletal lotus. Long tendrils of translucent ether lash violently from the artifact, while crackles of eerie light dance across the metal frame and up into the ghostly pillar that erupts from the center of the device into the night sky. A dozen bodies surround the pulsating cage, flopping on the floor and convulsing madly.
Already, other Pathfinders are rushing to tinker with the machine in the hopes to shut it down. Others run through the swirling tendrils, dodging where they can and grunting in pain where they cannot.
Each of you can either try to help shut it down (roll Disable Device each round) or run past it (avoiding tendrils and making Fort saves each round).
Please give me 3 Disable checks or 3 Fort saves.

Since disable device is a trained only skill, I guess that makes the decision easy.
Miranda attempts to move forward and avoid the tendrils while the more skilled pathfinders try to disarm the cage.

The Cage is finally disabled and stops firing off its tendrils (no second hit for Celdrexen)! The spiked and stuck door lasts mere moments as the horde of Pathfinders simply blow through it, part fleeing the cage, part fueled by visions of revenge!
The walls and floor of this room are made of pale, roughly finished sandstone. The walls curve upward to an almost dome-like structure above, and the level of the floor is slightly lower than that of the entry door. Squared arches of polished sandstone are cut into the curved walls, creating fantastic columns. The walls are covered to a height of 30 feet with enormous bookshelves full of tomes, scrolls, and leather-bound books. Several ladders, used to climb to the higher shelves, are scattered about the room. At a half-dozen points throughout the room, the rough, sandstone floor has been breached—smashed open as though someone were looking for something—and from somewhere in the room you hear an angry pounding. Before the army of Pathfinders coming his way stands none other than Charvion Eater-of-Bones.
With a supernatural roar of fury, the renegade raises his arms to the ceiling and screams in an ancient, guttural tongue. A nimbus of white flame erupts about him and then explodes, sending several different versions of Charvion flying about the room. Each Charvion stands and laughs, and in one loud chorus they say, “Come and fight me, Pathfinders. Your days are numbered!”
One nearby copy of Charvion immediately sets upon the group!

Shawn's taunting grabs his bitter attention, but the sling stone hurts him more. "I will make you eat your words, Pathfinder, and I will bury ALL of you!" Charvion screams. Two darts of pure magic zing into E'li, puncturing him amid sharp spurts of blood. Charvion retreats deeper into the chaotic melee of the chamber.
