Ehlers Danlos
|
"Jarif, right in front of you man!"
Ehlers unleashes a dart of pure energy then gracefully steps forwards.
Magic Missile Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 followed by movement to between Jarif and Ka'narg
GM Shady
The bolts of force emit from Ehlers' hands, rippling as they pierce whatever passes for the shell of the shade.
Magic missile does full damage in this case. Taking into account the damage from the dagger, the shade is now at -4 from its original hp. I assume Robilar was delaying his move. I'll wait for that then figure out Goldi's delayed move and if necessary bot her.

Robilar, finally having an opening, moves behind Haska. The doctor fires bolt at the shadow, just for good measure.
Point Blank Shot: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 5 - 4 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
GM Shady
@Robilar - not that it ultimately makes a difference, as the shadow can't be damaged by your mundane attack (note Jarif's failure to damage despite scoring a hit with his sword) but you take -4 for firing into melee and -4 for firing through soft cover, so miss.
Robilar's shot fails to connect with the shadow.
Goldi, faced with not being able to get into contact with the creature, and not being sure of any possible outcome if she does, simply moves out of Truffles' way and ushers the animal forward, to at least provide a distraction.
I've moved Truffles into contact with the creature, such that Haska or Jarif can move into the top corner (A4 from my previous description) and gain flanking to hit.
target, alphabetical order, Ehlers, Haska, Jarif, Truffles: 1d4 ⇒ 3 ... Jarif
The shadow, with an unholy cry thrusts some kind of tendril towards Jarif, through the swirling smoke ...
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 note this is a touch attack
... but misses.
New round. All of the PCs are up.

If I were to throw a bomb against the wall immediately in front of Haska, would I manage to hit the shadow and only it with splash damage? And it's the AC to hit the wall 5 as if targetting an empty square?
Jarif Selvaunt
Round 2, Init 19
As the shade is now surrounded, Jarif feels less vulnerable, so steps back into the corner that he just left. (5' step, I'll let you move the token.)
He focuses on attacking with his dagger alone.
Dagger attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 22 (+4 Weapon Finesse, +1 enhancement, +2 flanking)
Dagger damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 (+1 enhancement)

Round: 2 Initiative:14
Ehlers takes his now magical staff in both hands and silently swings it at the apparition before him
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Haska Graniteheart
Haska steps to take advantage of his allies tactical positioning and then swings away at the shadow.
(None)
Round 2 action:
5' step, A3 to A4 I think; just wherever Haska can step to get flanking[ooc]
Attack shadow
Rolls:
warhammer, attack, flanking: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16 for bludgeoning, silvered, MAGIC: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Active Status effects:
magic weapon, 8 rounds remaining

@Haska - Jarif took the flanking square ahead of you (by initiative order), you can move into the other potential flanking square (occupied by Truffles) with a move action, if you delay till after Truffles moves (and you should be calling your moves to your allies, from an RP point of view).
Haska Graniteheart
let's go with a delay, then a 5 foot step towards the Truffles flanking spot. Won't actually get the flank this round.
I didn't want to slow down play to ask for a new description of the map

Goldilocks "Sugarsnap"
Sugar maneuvers around to get behind truffles (well as far as she can go).
get ready to cast magic fang on truffles
Truffles tries to attack the creature
attack with flank: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 13
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

I've just realised that due to Jarif's movement, I can't throw the bomb without harming the rest... so let me think what I can do
As his last bolt semt to pass through the shadow with no harm, Robilar simply scartches his head and reloads his crossbow.
"You guys got it! Good work" he cheers, trying to be useful even in a morale uplifting way.
GM Shady
@Haska, you could have moved to flank, performing a circuit round and avoiding an AoO, had Truffles moved, but he/she didn't, so the space is occupied. I've moved you but Truffles will have to vacate the slot next turn to give it to you. And again, the character should be calling these moves to his allies.
Jarif once again manages to strike home, though once again incurring less damage than he might have expected. Ehlers and Haska find themselves slashing at empty air. Truffles also misses.
We're waiting on a move from Ka'narg, still
Haska Graniteheart
I'm not sure I understand. Are you requiring I RP combat a certain way?

Haska Graniteheart
We misunderstood each other, but it's my fault. For some reason I thought the Shadow was 5' away from the wall so that more than one person can flank him at a time, thus I posted that since Haska can't take advantage of the Truffles flank, he should move to potentially flank with someone else. This configuration is fine considering the actual situation (checked the map from a computer just now).
Ka'narg
Trapped between the pillar and the brazier by the rest of the group fighting the shadow, Ka'narg waits for an opportunity to strike. "Draw it out if you have to!" he calls out.
Delay.
GM Shady
Alphabetical - Ehlers, Haska, Jarif, Truffles: 1d4 ⇒ 1
The shadow now casts a tendril in the direction of Ehlers.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Ehlers screams in pain as he feels the strength drain from his body.
Ehlers takes 6 strength damage.
Ka'narg has the opportunity to use his delayed turn, otherwise it's the end of the round.
Ka'narg
As the elf shrieks from the attack, Ka'narg squeezes past into an opening toward the north of the room. He brings the large double axe down towards the shadow and flicks his gaze to Haska. "Make your strike count, cleric."
Aid another (+2 to attack): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Move to top left corner of melee group, attack to aid another giving Haska +2 to his next attack against the shadow.
Jarif Selvaunt
Round 3, Init 19
Jarif continues to press the attack with his dagger. These strikes seem to do less than they should; I thought this was enchanted? What is this shadow beast, that it has such protections?
Dagger attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 22 (+4 Weapon Finesse, +1 enhancement, +2 flanking)
Dagger damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 (+1 enhancement)
Haska Graniteheart
Haska nods at Ka'narg and swings at the shadow another time.
(None)
Round 3 action:
attack shadow
Rolls:
warhammer, attack, aid: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 2 = 23 for silvered, bludgeoning, magic: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9

Lord Admiral Truffles
Truffles continues with his last command attacking the shadow
attack with flank: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 = 25
magic damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Ka'narg
Ka'narg again attacks at the shade, hoping to distract it long enough for Haska to get another strike in on it.
Aid Another (+2 to attack): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Just got it - Haska has another +2 to his next attack against the shade
Ehlers Danlos
|
Staggering as the shadow draws the strength from his body Ehlers steps back (5ft step away) and releases another magic missile Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
GM Shady
Ehlers' missiles strike the shadow, breaking it into what seem like a thousand black threads, dissipating into the smoke.
The shadow's dead. The fire is still belching smoke into the room. You're technically out of initiative but in another 3 rounds would be overcome by the smoke and subject to checks for debilitating coughing. Your choices are to make an escape from the room and again to block the door, or to potentially put out the fire.
Ka'narg
Watching the smoke build gradually, Ka'narg turns his gaze to Goldi. "You don't happen to have, by chance, prepared that spell you used on me the last time you told me to cool off? The one that causes water to appear from nowhere?" he queries as he begins trying to work on a way to douse the flame. He will begin to take his cloak, already shortened having been torn to strips, from his shoulders and ready himself to try and beat the flames out with it if this course appears to be possible.
Jarif Selvaunt
Jarif stands ready to assist in putting out the flames, but lacks any equipment or specific capabilities to help. If it looks like he won't be able to help, or the flames aren't going to get put out, he will leave the room with the rest of the party.
Haska Graniteheart
Haska, lacking the means to combat the smoke, makes his way out of the room. "How you feelin' pretty boy?" he asks Ehlers

GM Shady
Just to move things on ...
Ka'narg succeeds, pretty much single handed, in putting out the fire with his cloak. However, at this point a large plume of dense smoke billows out, making breathing next to impossible. Finally, however, the smoke seems to be dissipating through a chimney built into the ceiling.
The smoke will take a while to dissipate but the fire is out. I assume the rest of the group retreats to the room with the beetle. Let me know what next, 3 votes to move on in any particular direction; the only unexplored areas on this level lie beyond the "reflection room", south of the room with the pool, so unless there's disagreement I propose to assemble you there before moving on (?).
Robilar Hawke
|
Once outside the smoke-filled room, Robilar smiles and asks "Is anybody in need of medical assistance? Oh, and Ka'narg, you were part of the first expedition so, huh, ah... where should we go now?"
Ka'narg
Ka'narg nods and looks to Robilar. "We encountered the horde of skeletons to the south of a room with a large pool. Given you are all still standing, I will presume you have not met them and we should head there."
GM Shady
The party moves back, under the tunnel and through the room with the broken statue (and noting there is still a tower shield lying in this room), then back up the corridor with the disabled traps and into the chamber containing the pool. From there, they return to the room containing the tapestries, the "room of reflection". The other shield, taken from the battle of the statue and carried here by Keshy the lizardman, one of the original party, lies in the corner. The evidence of the first party's final battle is scattered through the room.
There's a corridor off to the south, which remains unexplored.
I've paused things here to allow some RP posts but will move you down the corridor later this evening.
Ka'narg
Ka'narg looks about the room where he had fallen under the claws of the skeletons, his gaze distant as he recalls those final moments. He wondered where his companions were - did they press on, or were they defeated?
Jarif's words break him from his memories, and he shakes his head. "We had yet to figure it out - Roldare had said that we needed the keys and the shield. We found a key at the bottom of the pool, imbued with magic, but still had yet to find any significance to the shields."
