Takamatsu Kaijitsu
Paizo is some crazy lover of ambushes in their AP's I remember when I ran Savage Tide and some of the ambushes at level 1 down in the tunnels under the town. Crazy. I killed the party wizard with a crit from a javelin. Yep don't mind the attack at all just wanted to make sure were all on the same page.
Round 1
Taka smiles as an actual lead presents itself. He speaks a few arcane words and blesses himself and his ally's with advanced speed.
Standard: Cast Haste
Move: Move to surround, and draws bow
"Spread out, surround him. There are three other sides to the building. I will go down the right, the two of you take the left. Look for a way up or their way down and planned escape route. Meet in the back."
Taka moves 60' with his enhanced speed down the right side of the building and toward the back looking for ropes, ladders, stairs or anything that looks orchestrated.
Aleksson
Back. Pretty sure an out-of-stater dusted the wedding with a virus, as I'm fairly sick. Don't think it'll interrupt posting though.
Maneuver Gained: 1d4 ⇒ 1 | eldritch shield
Round 1
Aleksson ran straight towards the sniper, his boots kicking quickly against the cobblestone thanks to Taka's magic. He lept into the air...
Acrobatics High Jump (40' speed): 1d20 + 1 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 8 = 27
Aleksson is 6'6", has a minimum of 2' reach vertically with his arms (probably more like 2' 4"), and high jumped 6' (nearly 7') into the air. Overall he reaches at least 14.5 feet into the air, while the second story of buildings are generally at 10'.
...and grabbed tight...
Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
...pulling himself onto the roof. He felt his blood pounding and eyed his target.
Maneuver Gained: 1d3 ⇒ 2 | minute hand
Takamatsu Kaijitsu
You jumped a bit higher. Not sure why you used strength on your jump, jump no longer use strength just dex, Also haste is 30' movement onto your 30' so +12, so you should have hit a DC 35. So high Jump 8'9". Nice thinking. For some reason I registered the building was 2 stories high then a roof. So 20' or so up. Looking in discussion again I see it is a single floor building. :)
Aleksson
I'm wearing medium armor, so with ACP and the lowered speed (base 60 becomes 40 with armor), I'm only at +1 to jump to start, with haste only adding +8. Was hoping I still had fluctuation movement readied for an extra +10, but i went for it anyway. And thanks :-P
GM Rednal
Even as Aleksson eyed his target, they pulled a vial from their pouch and downed the contents. A moment later, they disappeared, under the effects of what was definitely an invisibility potion. Before they vanished, you did see that they seemed to be lacking in close-range weaponry, so it was unlikely they were going to just try and stab you while under the effects of their potion. More likely, it was something meant to aid in escapes.
Aleksson
Round 2
Animus: +1
Given that knowledge, Aleksson drew his starknife and chucked it before they could have gone much further.
Targeting the most sensible adjacent 5-ft. square. Whether that's straight backwards, or left towards an adjacent rooftop or whatever seems the most likely route for escape.
Temporal Burn
-2 animus for +4 to attack
+1 returning starknife (+ animus): 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 10 + 4 = 32
Miss Chance (50 or lower misses): 1d100 ⇒ 100
Piercing Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Untyped Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 6) = 17
Maneuver Gained: 1d2 ⇒ 1 | elemental strike
Shutai
Without a target, Shutai stayed her hand. If Aleksson could find the attacker...
Takamatsu Kaijitsu
You looking at your character sheet? :) You have MW Chain Shirt, Light Armor, You have +5 to acrobatics. Jump is Acrobatics? You made it either way just trying to help. :) Also your attack is a Crit threat. Shutain: Also as adventurers we know drawing and drinking a potion like that while it makes us invisible we are still in the same spot for a few seconds. (He used his move and standard action) If you have a ranged attack.
Round 2
Taka pauses a moment as the assassin disappears. He speaks a few arcane words as he is able to see them once again just as Alekesson delivers a vital blow.
[ooc]Standard: See Invisibile
Move: Continue around the building looking for the assassins potential escape route or a easy way up.
Aleksson
Yeah, you're right; didn't check it before responding, must be at medium encumbrance then. I have Aleksson in Hero Lab and I just go off of that. I think I've dropped my backpack for extra speed in the past, but dropping that in the middle of the street sounds like a good way to lose it. Appreciate it though. :-P
And... *double checks SRD* no. It would be a threat with my Wakizashi, but I tossed my starknife. I'm assuming they weren't right in the edge of the rooftop so I used that.
GM Rednal
1d3 ⇒ 3
Beating the odds somewhat, Aleksson noticed a spurt of blood from an invisible target - one Taka was able to pinpoint a moment later as he cast a spell to thwart invisibility.
Takamatsu Kaijitsu
So have I seen nothing else as I move around the building? A ladder, stairs, rope?
Round 3
As the assassin leaves his field of vision Taka know he is too close to the building. He moves away (up to 60') just enough to regain sight before letting an arrow fly.
Swift: Arcane Strike
Move: Move away
Standard: Arrow
L.Bow attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
L.Bow attack confirmation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Crit Damage: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (1, 4) + 10 = 15
"There... Taka shouts out as he lets an arrow fly that finds its mark.
"Surrender! We don't want to take your life."
Aleksson
Round 3
Animus: +2 (maneuver initiated last round
Aleksson grasped the bloodied starknife as it returned to him and barreled full-tilt after Taka's arrow.
Full: Run up to 120 ft.
Maneuver Gained: spark strike
Shutai
Shutai moved closer, trying Forbid Action again. "Don't move." If the others wanted the assassin alive, then Hold Person would be better, but...
DC 17 Will Save again, please.
Aleksson
Ahh sure, Aleksson goes for the horse then. Rolling Acrobatics to get off the roof without hurting myself, and then if I've got time, I mount the horse... which if it's trained for riders, just takes a move action,
yeah? Little unclear on horse stuff. :-P
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 1 + 8 = 24
Takamatsu Kaijitsu
I'm confused? So is the assassin fleeing on foot? I thought from your previous post they just moved to an area on the roof out of my field of view because I was too close to the building. So I moved away to regain line of sight. What seems to be going on is I was on a side, and the assassin jumped down on another side out of site trying to get away and I moved to gain line of site and shot them. So the question is what do they do on round 3 and how far away are they? Tempted to let them flee with my high survival skill and scent. They may lead us to something. :)
Aleksson
I'm assuming Shutai didn't fall off the face of the earth, and simply has nothing to add or ask?
Aleksson
Yeah... Also, if you didn't know, Taka lives in Florida, so while he was expected to be out for a few days yet, I'm crossing my fingers he's rescheduled that surgery and won't be stuck in a hospital when/if Hurricane Irma hits...
Shutai
Sorry, I was waiting for my Spell to be resolved.
GM Rednal
Despite the assassin's best efforts, Taka managed to continue piercing her invisibility and let loose an arrow that downed her... though Shutai, without a method to truly pinpoint her, wasn't quite able to target your foe. (Uuuuunless I missed something really obvious?) The horse nearby reared a moment later, clearly frightened by the smell of blood but unable to easily move away.
Takamatsu Kaijitsu
"My last arrow took them down. I will stabilize and bind them. Keep an eye out while I do it. Perhaps we can get some answers from this one."
Heal to stabalize: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Heal to stabalize: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Heal to stabalize: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Heal to stabalize: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
It takes Taka a few moments to stop the bleeding. After the assassin is stable he binds and puts them over his shoulder.
"Let us get them somewhere before the invisibility stops and we draw more attention."
Aleksson
Aleksson went to the horse and attempted to calm it down while Shutai and Taka sought a quiet corner to take the sniper.
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Shutai
Nope, I assumed it would work because it was a hearing based spell. I forgot that in Pathfinder Magic you have to see an enemy to cast on them.
Shutai nodded and followed. Hopefully, the Assassin would reveal something useful. Perhaps her spells could help with that, although it made Shutai...nervous. Using them in battle was one thing - you removed someone's choice by poking them full of holes or by a spell, and it didn't really matter which - but this was...different.
GM Rednal
Yeah, Line of Sight/Effect is pretty important. o wo
It didn't take too long for the invisibility to flicker out - though the little altercation had definitely attracted attention, and would almost certainly get back to whoever (or whatever) was behind recent events. Luckily, Aleksson was able to calm the horse well enough, and the attacker was stabilized long before she bled out. And that left her... quite vulnerable to whatever you wanted to do.
Takamatsu Kaijitsu
Now that things had calmed down a bit Taka spends a few moments to rejuvenate himself so if they were attacked again he would be ready.
Rejuvenate Eidolon: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Rejuvenate Eidolon: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
He then takes out his wand to finish on himself. He looks to his companions.
"Do either of you need healing before I wake up our friend here?"
CLW on Taka: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW on Taka: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
CLW on Aleksson: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
CLW on Shutai: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
CLW on Shutai: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
CLW on Assassin: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Taka is out of level 1 summoner spells for the day
The 6 charges used takes the want to 22 charges remaining
Aleksson
Aleksson graciously accepted the healing, and stood with wakizashi pointed at the woman as she came to. Being less of one for words than the other two, he simply stood there, ready.
Shutai
Nodding her thanks for the Healing, Shutai looked down at the captured foe. "Let us begin."
Takamatsu Kaijitsu
Taka looks to the assassin he speaks calmly and direct trying to let on that he knows more than they actually do.
"We are not going to threaten you. What I can offer is protection. As you have been caught I'm sure the Frozen Shadows will kill you for your failure. We will stop them with or without your help. Give us their base of operations allow our allies to watch over you while we put an end to this. This is the only course of action I can see that will allow you to live. Please help us help you."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (11) + 19 = 30
Aleksson
Aleksson weight shifted as he moved into a more defensive posture; going along with Taka, he showed that his weapon was drawn in self-defense, not intimidation.
Shutai
Shutai considered. Taka was likely right. A lot of the more stupid groups did such things to maintain secrecy and force their members to fight to the death, knowing death awaited them for failure regardless. Of course, if he was wrong...
GM Rednal
The assassin woman considered this for a moment. "...Deal." she said. "It was just a job anyway. I don't know about their base of operations, but the man who hired me was Jorgan the Axe, and he wanted one of you dead. Didn't matter which one. Said you'd been too nosy about poking around and causing problems for him. He came across as a bit of a lightweight, really - more a follower than a leader, and probably a bit afraid of whoever's really calling the shots. My guess is he's already skipped town just in case exactly this happened, and you might be able to get some of the... uh... less reputable citizens to tell you what direction he'd went. I'd go sooner instead of later, if I were you - whoever wants your heads probably isn't going to give up until you're way gone or they succeed."
Shutai
Perhaps Shutai was simply paranoid, but that seemed too simple and easy. She studied the woman, trying to determine if she was speaking the truth. She could resort to magic, if anyone thought she was lying, but was hesitant to do so.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Aleksson
Aleksson considered the assassin unusually forthcoming as well.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
GM Rednal
As far as you can tell, she's being honest with you. ...That may have something to do with your respective positions, given that she clearly wants to leave with as little harm to herself as possible. Self-interest was a powerful motivator, and sometimes more powerful than money or professionalism...
Shutai
Shutai looked at the others for confirmation of the situation. If they let her go, it was possible they had been misleading...and of course, they had the mission to search the funeral ship. If she had witnessed the preparation, it might be a problem.
Takamatsu Kaijitsu
"You have been most helpful. We will take you to our camp. They will watch over you for a few days keeping you safe. You will then be released. I suggest finding more honorable work. For the next may not be as merciful. You did have a horse. Where were you to go to report when the job was done? Surely your employer was not just going to take your word."
Aleksson
Aleksson gave a reassuring nod to Shutai and stowed his weapon. Taking the horse by the reigns, he and the others led the assassin back to their caravan.
Shutai
"Then a few days to relax will be well for you," Shutai commented as they escorted her away.
Takamatsu Kaijitsu
Taka nods.
"Very well. We will secure you with our friends then for a day or two and look for this Jorgan the Axe. Can I see the bag of coin he paid you with? I am not robbing from you I just wish to gain his scent."
Assuming she complies thinking I must be a bit crazy for trying. Taka will take a deep breath and familiarize himself with the scents on the bag believing one of them to be the man in questions.
"Good now if we can find his last whereabouts I can find and track him." He smiles devilishly as a hunter stalking a prey.
Aleksson
Aleksson offered a steely glance to the woman as they went, reassuring her that Taka's request was not some joke.
GM Rednal
As it happened, the woman didn't have the coinpurse with her - she noted that all the jangling wasn't exactly good for stealth, nor the weight good for getting around. It was more than five or six coins, after all.
I do like the creativity there, though. XD Such things don't always work, but I do encourage continuing to try them. Creative solutions are often the most fun.
Shutai
Well, metal was unlikely to retain enough of a scent Shutai assumed, so it probably wasn't too big an issue. Maybe the leather pouch..."Did he give you anything other than the coins?"
Takamatsu Kaijitsu
"Well is it on your horse? Don't speak down to me girl. You don't strike me as the type that lives around here. None the less, if you do not have it fine. You have given us a lead. Now lets get you to safety so we can pursue it."
Aleksson
Aleksson shook his head. "She knows nothing. She arrogantly assumed she wouldn't be captured, and so thought to observe nothing, remember nothing. It is lucky for her that we will not weigh her life's value by the value of what she knows." Frankly, Aleksson would not object to doing exactly that, but for him that is an old way to which he carries no particular attachment, and it would not sit well with his companions.
