Maggie’s wagon is filled with all sorts of things, including colorful scraps of cloth, empty bottles, a barrel of seawater, a small keg of grain alcohol, labels, two pots of glue, a well-used makeup kit, a small mirror, a stuffed raven, a makeshift alchemy lab, 7 torches, a potion with more words and a picture of a spider on the label, and five more bottles of the same tonic that you found earlier in the crate.

The potion is a potion of spider climb.

You find a hidden compartment beneath the wagon seat, which contains two bottles of mysterious liquid, an ivory stick with a small pearl at the end, and a silk bag. (If Goog or Poog examine these things with detect magic, both bottles and the ivory stick radiate magic.) The bottles are labeled, with one showing the point-eared longshanks in a pose making her look like she's jumping, and the other showing a plume of fire coming her mouth (and more words, of course). The silk bag has eight tiny human teeth and a crude drawing in colored pigments on a sheet of paper of a blonde half-elf woman and a smaller half-elf girl, adorned with hearts.

The second potion is mysterious, but smells smoky and sulfurous. The DC is too high for anyone to get. Looks like you'll just have to drink it sometime and hope for the best!

You also find a map of the local area, with lots of writing, of course, but also a big red X on a place that, if the landmarks shown match up with the map drawn by Loptop, is somewhere far to the southeast of Brinestump Marsh. The map has an envelope attached, with more paper, and writing that is far worse than any other writing ever seen. It's GOLD! and SPARKLY! Surely this writing must be dealt with by the tribal elders, who will know how to dispel any curse that might have fallen on your heads for touching this sparkly writing.

When the new goblins return to the dank grandeur of Licktoad Village, older goblins crowd around to inspect their new toads, gawk at trinkets uncovered during the adventure, and shout half-formed questions. Whelp-wrangler Loptop eventually shoves her way to the front of the mob.

Loptop looks a little disappointed about missing the violence, but several goblins run off into the swamp to start pulling the colorful wagon apart. Loptop’s disappointment slowly turns to approval of your bravery.

"So, what you get!" Loptop looks eagerly at your treasures, nodding with approval, but when you display the envelope and letter, she gasps. "Sparkly writing! Must have bad curse on it! Must take it to the Chief!"

Loptop insists on confiscating the missive, and takes it into Chief Gutwad's hut to examine it with him and his majordomo, Slorb.

You are now free to trade your finds with the other goblins for weapons or other things, as well as visit the tribe's healer, Nasty Grammel, if you're still injured (which I don't think you are). You're also welcome to nap and regain spells in the case of Goog and Poog.

After a few hours, word spreads of a meeting in Chief Gutwad’s moot house, and the entire village gathers in the sagging, smoke-filled hut. The moot house is stacked high with jars of strange, fuzzy creatures preserved in pickle brine, and the skinned hides of anything else too large for even the mightiest jar. The chief holds up a single hand—a human’s, by the look of it—from atop his tall chair, silencing the goblin horde. All the goblins know that His Mighty Girthness Chief Rendwattle Gutwad is a goblin of such remarkableness that the mere sound of his voice has driven goblins to madness or made heads explode. Therefore, his faithful advisor Slorb speaks on the chief’s behalf.

“Our new goblin heroes have returned with horrible, horrible news: A stranger has brought horrible, horrible words into our swamp. Extra-horrible words! Because these words sparkle. Maybe they be magic words. Maybe even worse magic than regular words. The stranger also had a map, and Chief Gutwad knows from looking at the map that this is clearly where the longshanks MAKE their terrible sparkly words! They be planning something bad. But we be goblins! We be the baddest thing! Licktoads will march on longshanks word-makers and smash everything!”

Slorb launches into an impromptu song:

On to the location on the map marked by the star. The tribe of goblins draws near, huddling in the woods and peeking cautiously out from behind the trees. Luckily, the site is in a little valley, so the approaching raiders have a clear view of their target.

The light forest and overgrown field give way to a rundown little farm bustling with activity. Colorful paper and cloth hang from the barn and house, and tables loaded with food and drink are scattered around the yard. In the center of it all stands a cake that rises nearly two goblins tall and drips with icing and custard. A few slices have already been removed, revealing an interior that looks moist and delicious.

A large number of 'hairyfeets' (i.e. halflings) are gathered in the field with the tables. There are a few longshanks among them as well. Besides the gathering with the cake, there are also a number of buildings -- a tall building with animal pens around it, a shorter, long one with windows, a chimney, and a porch, and a smaller one down by the river.

I'll have a map up by tomorrow at the latest.

Goog throws out a cone of fire, but the woman dodges it, only to get whalloped on the arm by Poog as he takes advantage of her headlong rush. She still makes it to Chuffy and attacks with the pan, landing a solid blow on his head that makes his ears ring. 4 damage to Chuffy.
