If you take 20 you'll break them before you get a 20 - any result that misses by 5 or more breaks the picks and you'll get every other result before 30... so RAW it won't work.

Hmmm... I see nothing on the PRD that suggests that lockpicks break when you fail by more than 5 picking a lock.
All I can see is this:
Try Again: Varies. You can retry checks made to disable traps if you miss the check by 4 or less. You can retry checks made to open locks.
That seems to suggest that nothing bad happens when you fail to pick a lock.
GM: Can I take 20?

Together you somehow manage to kick in the door.
The mournful wailing grows louder with each kick against the door but suddenly becomes quiet when the door finally opens. A crossbow bolt flies towards you.

The bolt almost hit Tyrek, but flies past him.
"Those angry bones are coming for me. They want to kill me and eat me. Stupid bones, stay dead! Leave me alone!" the guy in the room rants.
