Petals |
Oh and Petals had bought a potion of invisibility in case we needed the extra stealth in the mansion, but now she can cast it. One of the rest of you should take it now.
Lady Faustinia Xerysis |
Hey all, I was otherwise occupied today and didn't have time to get a post in. I'll catch up tomorrow! Thanks for understanding.
Lady Faustinia Xerysis |
Okie dokie. Loot calculations:
Selling everything that no one has claimed plus the coin we recovered comes out to 20,147.7, divided by 4 is 5,036.92 gold per person.
However, if I may make one last suggestion, I think keeping the minor crown of blasting might be a good call here. Once a day it allows for a touch attach that does 3d8 untyped damage, or 6d6 untyped damage to undead, or 6d8 utyped damage to undead that are particularly vulnerable to bright light. Given how much we struggled with shadows before, this might be a good keep for emergencies. It may also come in handy as we fight more shadowy creatures; if I remember correctly, the shadow beasts are aberrations or outsiders rather than undead, but they may have some light-vulnerable undead hanging out in the same place.
I would propose that Varius or Petals take this. Even though it's a touch attack, Faustinia doesn't have any Dex bonus or a decent BAB, and so far we haven't fought anything so large as to have terrible enough touch AC to make her hit, whereas our bard and fighter would have a much better chance.
It will cost us 3,240 gold out of the pot, dropping the gold per person to 4,226.92. So it's a bit of a hit to our gold influx, but it could be useful. I'll leave it open and we can go off of whatever amount per person it turns out to be.
Summary:
Selling off unclaimed loot gold per person: 5,036.92
Selling off unclaimed loot, keep the minor crown of blasting, gold per person: 4,226.92
Petals |
Petals will take it, if everyone is okay with keeping it. Though Varius for wearing a crown all the time might be worth having him take it.
Varius or Catina, do you want to take Petals' potion of invisibility?
Catina Bon Durati |
Fully agree on the crown of blasting. It's a good item, and it provides something that we're short on as a party: ranged attacks. The only reason I didn't take it, is because Catina already has a circlet.
On the potion of invis, Catina claimed the one we found. Yours can go to Varius, Petals.
For Catina's shopping list:
Enchanting glaive to +1: 2,000 gp
Enchanting breastplate to +1: 1,000 gp
Left: 1,226.92 gp
If anyone needs part of this to purchase a more valuable item, feel free to use it. Otherwise, Catina will stock up on some comsumables and will save the rest for later use.
Varius Liberare |
It's funny - I actually thought about the crown and decided Varius is too stylish to wear it. Maybe once he has more elaborate fancy adventurer's gear. I think we should keep it though, and Petals is appropriate :)
Varius will do the same thing and invest in enchanting his stuff:
Starting: 1140.5 gp + 4226.92 = 5367.42
Enchanting mw silver shortsword to +1: 2000 gp
Enchanting mw breastplate to +1: 1000 gp
Silk rope: 10 gp
2 pints lamp oil: .2 gp
Silver holy symbol of Iomedae: 25 gp
Grappling hook: 1 gp
Remaining: 2331.22
I may buy a ring of protection or something. How are we on wands?
Also, I realized I was misapplying combat expertise as it only clicks in during a full attack action. AC going forward is my unmodified AC and I'll use combat expertise when I have full attacks.
Petals |
Healing wands we are good, a clw with 4 charges left, and a cmw with 33 charges. Petals still has a potion of csw as well.
Mimicking the enchantment ideas.
enchanting msk silver earthbreaker to +1: 2000gp
enchanting msk chainshirt to +1: 1000gp
buying:
msk composite longbow(+2 strength): 600gp
cloak of resistance +1: 1000gp
20 arrows 1gp
2 vials of alchemist fire 40gp
2 vials of holy water 50gp
leaves petals with 492.982
Lady Faustinia Xerysis |
Hmm, I'm a little unsure of what to buy with my funds. I think I'll also sell off the scrolls of ray of exhaustion and vampiric touch I have, because I don't think I'll ever really use them.
I have 580.25 + 4226.92 + 150 from scrolls = 4957.17
I'm spending some gold to add to my spellbook, but I still have over 4,000 to spend. I'm deciding among:
Headband of Vast Intelligence: 4,000
Hand of Glory: normally 8,000 but because my bonded item is a necklace, I believe I can enchant it to have the same properties for 4,000. It would allow me to cast daylight and see invisibility once per day and perhaps it could be modified to allow a third ring slot even though it's not a mummified hand? Perhaps I can talk to Tarvi about that.
Necklace of adaptation: again, it's normally 9,000 but I can enchant my bonded item myself for 4,500. This one is more passive, granting me a constant bubble of fresh air - I could cast stinking cloud centered on myself and be totally fine if I needed to. :P
What do you all think? This is still my first wizard and I'm not always sure what I should be spending my gold on.
Catina Bon Durati |
AS a conjurer, I don't think you benefit as much from high Int as other specializations would (like a blaster of enchanter, who needs high save DC's). Int 19 should be fine. I'd go for something else instead, and the Hand of Glory seems like it has nice (but circumstantial) use. I'm just not sure how the mummified-hand thing would work, since you already decided what your necklace looks like.
Varius Liberare |
I recommend a lesser extend metamagic rod. It's 3,000 gp and since you have extend spell it will double your durations on all sorts of good stuff.
Other useful items are higher-level wands (a higher-level magic missile wand is great), or ring of protection/amulet of natural armour.
Aside from that, Varius will get a ring of protection +1 for himself.
Catina Bon Durati |
Taking a couple of things to the Discussion thread:
- Catina can cast protection from energy to give a person immunity to the first 50 points of fire damage. Also, protection from evil could possibly help with the saving throw on a failed check, but only for the first 5 minutes. Finally, I have 'Bit of luck' to give extra d20 rolls on a few critical rolls.
Before we can do some serious planning, though, I'd like to ask Giuseppe for some clarification on the skill check. Especially, how the stacking bonus works, and when the fire damage triggers. It wasn't really clear to me from the text you posted. Could you give an example perhaps, with some different check results?
Lady Faustinia Xerysis |
I could also cast resist energy once the protection from energy is close to its absorption limit.
Of all of us, I think Faustinia has the bet shot of making the Intelligence check. Catina's natural fire resistance is nice, of course, but she needs an extra +4 bonus AND a natural 20 in order to open the Crux. Faustinia just needs a +1, so that's 7 tries at opening it where she has a chance to succeed before it resets.
Petals |
Petals has no chance with the disable device check until she hits 5 failures. And then only if her tools can be of use. Can we aid another for Faustinia? Take twenty? Assuming no on the last one, since there is a threat.
Also Petals should be able to use inspire competence, correct?
GM Giuseppe |
You can aid another, but this forces you to suffer the effects of the Crux together with the puzzler solver.
You cannot take twenty on this check.
Petals can use inspire competence, of course.
Lady Faustinia Xerysis |
For my post trying to open the Crux, I'll post eight attempts at first. What bonuses should I be adding to these? Since your bardic performance and bit of luck are limited, let me know which of my rolls you'd like to enhance with those.
I believe bit of luck will both affect my attempts as well as any Reflex save that is the result of a failure?
Petals |
Petals has 12 rounds of performance. I'd think she'll just sing until she's out or you succeed.
GM Giuseppe |
Since the weekend is going to be a little too hard on me as well, I say we pick up the game on Monday again, with the intention of restarting to post daily.
Lady Faustinia Xerysis |
Sounds good!
Lady Faustinia Xerysis |
Hello all,
Apologies, but I'm having some trouble finding the time to post this weekend. I just have a few things going on that have occupied my time. I'll hopefully get back to posting withing the next day or two.
GM Giuseppe |
Quick update: the structure where I'm staying is experiencing some web issues and internet access is completely unavailable at the moment. They said they will fix the issue between today and tomorrow. Fingers crossed...
GM Giuseppe |
Hey guys, I'm glad to announce that I'm finally back! Sorry for my prolonged absence, it did not depend on me unfortunately. Expect a post from me within the day, and from tomorrow on, I will start posting with at my usual rate.
Petals |
All good here. How about you Catina?
Been a quiet weekend all over it seems.
Lady Faustinia Xerysis |
Yes, I believe we've been waiting on me.
Sorry I've been having such delayed posts lately. Recently I hit a spike of being involved in more games than I'm used to, and that's certainly been contributing. Two of them have very definitive end points, though, so my attention won't be split for too much longer hopefully.
I've also just been kind of busy and distracted by various things. I've also had some posting anxiety, but it shouldn't last long and once I get past it I should be able to contribute at the level that you've come to expect from me. As it is, I recognize that it's important to keep our momentum, and I need to at least help us move forward even if my best effort right now is less than it has been in the past.
Thanks again for your patience and understanding when I'm not at my top capacity. I have the day free so I'll have a post up today for sure. :)
GM Giuseppe |
from the grace and glory of pre-Thrune Westcrown is its main distinguishing feature. Once, they were among the most elite of the city, but today, Rance Lucca is all that remains.
Rance Lucca is not as cautious as his forerunners, though. His disregard for the House of
Thrune and Westcrown’s government alike borders on contempt, but he’s always quick to pay his taxes on time and never goes too far in public. He runs a semi-legal fighting ring called the Devildrome, located in the southwest corner of Rego Cader.
OK, so let me know your plans! I assume you’re going to lay low for a few days, until your equipment is ready. Then?
Varius Liberare |
Sorry folks, went to see my sister and wound up stuck on mobile with no time to post. May have difficult posting Weds/Thurs as well but should be more likely to make it as I'll be travelling with my laptop.

Lady Faustinia Xerysis |
Hi all, I had an idea and I was wondering how you all might feel about it.
Since this summoning fight will involve so many creatures (on both sides), I thought it might be wise to split up control of some of my summons. In order to share the spotlight and the management load, I could assign one or two creature’s to the other players' control. Does that sound like something you all would be interested in?
Lady Faustinia Xerysis |
Alright, now that I have some summoned creatures on the field, they are free for your control! Feel free to determine among yourselves who will take control of what. I will continue to include stat blocks in my posts for all of our reference.
So far the creatures are:
Blue small earth elemental
Orange small earth elemental
Lantern archon
Have fun! And remember that the elementals have earth glide and a burrow speed, plus a small bonus from earth mastery, and the Feats Power Attack AND Improved Bull Rush (which is why they're hanging out near the pit).
GM Giuseppe |
OK guys, since we're losing too much pace in this section, I need you to get refocused on the game please. It's very important that in this phase, you post consistently, otherwise the whole battle is going to be tedious and very long.
I will go ahead and assing the summoned creatures to the PCs:
Catina - Bue small earth elemental
Petals - Orange small earth elemental
Varius - Lantern archon
I expect a post from you within 24h from my last post (yesterday at 10 PM, EST) otherwise I will bot the still uncontrolled summoned creatures.
GM Giuseppe |
Well, I had to bot Petals and Catina. I'm expecting more from you in terms of consistency guys. Please try to get back on track, or with two out of four total players unable to post daily, this campaign is going to die slowly (of course, I would declare it concluded well before it would die of agony). So please, guys, let's try to be post at least once/day, all of us (me included)!
Petals |
I believe the confusion is our time zone difference. Unless I'm working from home I do not post during work hours. Your assignments were during the work time frame. I posted my regular turn yesterday evening and my next turn was not up when I left for work this morning.
Saying that of course bot me whenever you need. I love this game and do not wish for it to die in any way.
