Mawl eventually makes his way to the proclamation. huh, I thought the Hellknights were part of the whole organization. Well, it's irrelevant. We cannot trust them, and I still would be very wary of them, but I will take them off my hunting list for now. It's that woman and Thrune that must pay.

Laria motions for people to start heading back inside to discuss and when you get back down there Setrona is waiting on you a concerned look on her face. Once the group of 'leaders' is all there she frowns as she starts "Sorry all for barging in, but... I need your help..." After a brief pause she looks to each of you and continues "“My cousin Octavio is an obstinate and difficult man, but he’s also an honorable one. He’s led the Order of the Torrent for a decade, and during that time they’ve rescued dozens of missing people and other unfortunates from abduction.

The order’s members aren’t all stationed here in Kintargo— they work throughout Avistan, after all, and I suppose it’s something of a blessing that most of their two dozen or so members were elsewhere when Barzillai made the order illegal. Those who are outside Cheliax are certainly lying low, awaiting word from their lictor, but if we can find my cousin, I’m certain he can be convinced to aid the Silver Ravens. He might grouse a bit at your methods, but I know for a fact that he’s no supporter of Thrune, and having his network of
agents at your disposal can only help, right?

In any event, assuming he’s not in the clutches of House Thrune, I think I know where my cousin is. He’d probably hate me if he found out I told you this, but the Order of the Torrent sometimes uses a small shrine just south of the city in the Argo swamps as a safe house. The place is warded against magical observation, and they’ve used it in the past as a staging place for smuggling those they’ve rescued into or out of Kintargo. The place is the Shrine of Saint Senex, and if my cousin is anywhere, he’s there.”

Know. Local/Religion DC16 - Saint Senex:
Founded by a group of seafaring mystics a few hundred years ago, the shrine is devoted to the memory of sailors who lost their lives at sea. Senex herself was an oracle of the waves who devoted much of her later life to the recovery of the bodies of drowned sailors, to return them and their belongings to their families rather than leaving them at the bottom of Nisroch Bay or to the deeper stretches of the Yolubilis. Since the Chelish Civil War, Saint Senex has drifted a bit into obscurity.

K I’m finally done updating my character. I spent 1325 between the wand of magic missile and scribing scrolls, which I’ll settle up in Hero Lab once the loot stuff has been finalized. Also, with all that scribing, Sorix has just been holed up in her room at the Aulorian estate.

Sorix is absent for the next few days. At some point she sends one of the silver raven figurines to her fellow Silver Ravens, saying, ”Hey guys—I’m just back in my room making scrolls. How’s everything going?”

Setrona smiles when it seems the group is willing to help her and, more specifically, her cousin. She pats Mawl on the shoulder as she notes "Well, if you don't mind the help, I'll come along with you and see if I can't aid in the diplomacy a bit, unless you all think it's better if I don't come along? Either way, I appreciate the help!"

Let me know your plans, you need to gather up Sorix since she isn't with you all (across the toll bridge in the other part of town). Then are you doing anything here or heading straight to the shrine? Are you taking Setrona with you?

@Horillo - To note Setrona is the owner of the Tooth & Nail, which is the tavern above where the Wasp Nest is located. She has been well aware of your activites and if she was looking to betray you could have turned you all in long ago. Just a refresher since it has been awhile since you've dealt with her. :D

As soon as the magical talking bird statue delivers the message, Sorix quickly grabs her things and makes her way to the Wasp’s Nest. Before approaching the toll bridge she uses a scroll of disguise self on herself, modifying her appearance to that of an ordinary middle-aged, middle-class female citizen of Kintargo. If asked her destination/reason for crossing she’ll keep her eyes down and say something about just doing some errands/shopping.

After getting caught up on recent events, Sorix tries to recall what she might know about the Order of the Torrent:
kn local: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
And Saint Senex:

With Sorix back and the others seemingly decided on helping out Setrona the group heads out with the woman in tow. You head out of the city via Rust Gate, the closest exit toward your destination along Ravounel Road. As you approach the gate ahead, you see four Dottari at the gate. Additionally, in the shadow of the gate, you spot an armiger of the Order of the Rack who wears the distinctive armor of his order. It appears they are checking incoming and outgoing traffic.

Let me know your plans, you are pretty sure you will have to talk to them unless you have a means to avoid them altogether.

"Let me try." the bard says softly behind the others while the discuss their plans. She had been silent as they talked, almost as if she hadn't even been there. "I'm usually good with people and words."

Clearing her throat, she straightens her hair and adjusts her shirt in a more appealing manner before she walks off towards the gate with a welcoming smile. She starts singing a melodic song to herself loud enough to be heard by the men so they can hear her coming, but not loud enough to be obvious that she's trying to get their attention.

"Country roads, take me home, to the place I belong..."

"Oh!" she says, pretending to see them for the first time "Good afternoon good sir. I was hoping that my companions and I may continue on our way if you don't mind."

”Damnit...” Surexeria muttered as the new girl headed off straight for the gate. Deciding backing her play is the safest move, she follows her up and stands beside her as she talks with the guard. Surexeria casually leans on Cass’ shoulder with both hands, her fingers interlocked with one another as she rests her chin on top of them. She gives the guard a wink and a smile that she knows has melted many men’s rational thought in the past to try and give a bit of help to Cass’ gambit.

The guards circle around the two woman, while the rest of the group stays back a bit. One of the men gets a little close for comfort and asks "What are two pretty women planning to do outside the city? It's not safe all that safe you know." He looks back toward the rest of the group eyeing them before continuing "Looks like you've got some muscle to help protect you, but I'd never forgive myself if I let you wander out of town and something happened."

The guards seem to be at least indifferent to you and the group but the armiger calls out "Stop harassing them and just do your job!" He comes down from his post and stomps toward the group, the dottari splitting to let the armiger get closer "State your business citizens." He doesn't even look at Cass and Surexeria when he says this, obviously eyeing Mawl and Horillo, his hand on his blade.

Mawl's eyes widen a bit as his muscles tense ever so slightly. He quickly takes in the lay of the battlefield and plans his moves, should they become necessary. Well, Surexeria can easily take care of herself and she has her hands on Cassie to quickly get her out of harm's way. The decoratively armored guy is obviously the first and most powerful target. Now how do I get to him, if necessary. With all these thoughts, it keeps Mawl from speaking. He is not deliberately ignoring the question, but also not acknowledging that he is the one being addressed.

To first guard that was caught in her alluring charm, she smiles and responds "Oh, thank you for your concern good sir. You can see my retinue behind me is here to take care of me, I'm in quite good hands."

Turning to point to Surexeria, she smiles "This is my personal assistant, Rexy. A doll, isn't she? She's mute. Shame she can't speak. Quite a damn shame, really." She turns and grabs the swashbucklers mouth with both hands and says "So much beauty but unable to speak a word. I often wonder what beautiful words of wisdom a mute might be able to contribute," she turns back to the guard "Don't you?"

Turning to the armiger, she smiles "Forgive me, sir. My name is Cassie and I'm a performer of quite some renown here in Kintargo, perhaps you have seen my shows down in Jarvis End? Hmmm?"

She arches her brow and waits for a moment for him to respond, "In any case, the good elves of Acisazi have paid me to fill in for a performer there who has fallen to the pox and is unlikely to recover in time for the show next month. I've hired this crew to escort me to my destination, so I feel quite safe in my travels."

"If you like I could perform one of the songs for here, if you would like to hear it that is?"

Without waiting, Cassie begins to sing a melodic elven song, hoping to annoy the guard enough to send them on their way.

The guard doesn't respond to Cass's first question and as she mentions Acisazi he quirks his brow as he notes "Long way to walk..." but as the woman starts siging he just rubs the his head "Stop... go, be on your way. I don't want to hear your flowery song..."

He moves to the side, as do the dottari letting the group pass. While Cass's bluff got them out of the city, hopefully the same guards aren't waiting when you return, if it is any time soon.

It’s a short walk west of Ravounel Road to the swampy western shore of Argo Isle. No track or trail leads to the shrine, but the swampy ground between it and the road is safe to travel and luckily Setrona knows the way. You will inevitably acquire some mud and grime along the way but the trip is easy.

As you near, the shrine is easy to spot. A 2-foot-wide path rises up from the marshy ground, leading to what appears to be a heap of stones and driftwood. The mound has an opening on the southeast side, flanked by two poles sporting gouts of fire that dance erratically in the ocean breeze.

Only the shrine itself and the path leading to it are on firm ground; the rest is a shallow bog. The waters of this bog slowly rise and fall with the tides of the river estuary. The shrine’s dome rises several feet into the air.

The opening on the shrine’s southeast side is apparently the only way inside. The glare of the midday sun makes it difficult to say what lies within without closer investigation.

Pausing things here in case you want to dialogue on the way to the shrine and/or want to plan something specific.

That's mean Dak. Not all of us are capable of dialogue! Be nice to our mute. Here. I'll help her out...

"Absolutely. Thank you sir. You have a pleasant day." she says with a smile.

Tugging on Surexeria's arm, she looks at the woman's face for a moment, showing concern. "What's that dear? Just mouth the words to me or use your signs. Hmmm. Oh. Yes, of course."

After the armiger waves them on and walks off, she turns back to the original guard she adds "And my silent friend here wanted to say thank you to you as well. She likes your eyes. When we get back she'd be interested in dinner with you if you are up for it. She's not a big talker though, I'm afraid. Wonderful personality though. Just wonderful."

Cassie giggles and skips away from the checkpoint, turning to face all of her new companions and spreading her arms wide. "Not bad for the new girl, eh? That was just-" her smile fades as do her words as the swashbuckler whispers in her ear.

Her posture diminishes, her shoulders slump in on themselves and she begins to stare at the ground while the swashbuckler talks. She mutters "G-got it." as she nods quickly. "Clear." before walking ahead on her own away from Surexeria.

The ceiling of this damp chamber is seven feet high, bolstered by square supports of rough-hewn wood. A shallow pool of water lies in the northwest corner of the room, where a rusty iron ladder descends from a hole in the ceiling above. An iron gate blocks access into a corridor to the east. Piles of sail canvas and jumbled coils of rope litter the stony floor, and the walls, floor, and ceiling have been carved to look like wood. Brown paint clings in patches, and it’s easy to see how the room may have once looked very much like the hold of a ship. To the west stands a statue carved from driftwood depicting a woman dressed in robes, holding the body of a drowned sailor in her arms. Inside two men with long beards wearing white robes sit and talk, sharing tails of their times at sea before taking up residence as guardians of this shrine.

Might I pray?" She heads towards the statue and falls to her knees in front of it. She closes her eyes and begins to pray silently before standing back up and turning to face the men.

"Good afternoon, gentlemen. My name is Cassandixia and my friend asked me to try and help locate her cousin. I was told that he frequented this shrine and was hoping you might know of him?" she says in a soft and gentle voice. "I only wish to deliver a message to Octavio and then I shall depart. Could you please help me find him?"

The seers seem suspicious Cass as she interrupts their discussion and immediatly goes to the shrine to pray. They grab hold of their weapons giving her a discerning look but don't interrupt her. When she stands and explains her actual purpose in being here they look to one another a moment before one speaks up. "We know of Octavio, he has cast his breath upon the Stone many times, long a friend to our shrine. We honor those who honor the watery dead."

The other man chimes in "How are we to know your intentions are true, what proof do you have that you are working with his cousin?"

Both men, look to Cass for an answer, though their stance doesn't seem like they are inclined to fight, but instead listen for now.

Clarification. We are looking for Setrona's cousin and Setrona is now with us in the group here at the shrine?

Cassie thinks a moment about the proof that she has "I understand you question the validity of my statement, I would in your shoes as well."

"While I did not bring with me any secret passphrase or physical item with me to pray at the shrine, I have the best possible alternative."

She turns her head and looks back in the direction of the party "The cousin I speak of is nearby and would certainly be recognized by Octavio. Could your please pass along my message or point us in the direction where we can find him? We will gladly wait while this happens."

She offers a friendly smile, folding her hands in front of her.

The men look to one another for a moment then one responds "Who said Octavio was here? Why don't you bring his cousin over here then and we shall be the judge of whether to tell you any more."

The reply from the men catches the bard off guard, her suspicions rising.
Cassie studies the men, trying to get a read if they are well intentioned or if they are up to foul play.
