Background:

Though she’s thoughtful, sensitive, and intelligent, she’s perhaps a little too foolish. But there's more than meets the eye, not surprising for somebody with her position and responsibilities. Her beliefs are of paramount importance in her life. When others question or attack the beliefs, principles, relics, or structures of her faith, she responded with fury.

Born Ayalah Rohrfixia, Ayalah is the only child of a librarian and a scholar, born and raised in the port city of Kintargo. Her family was considered middle class and she grew up without experiencing the bondage of serfdom or peasantry, but also lacking the privilege of the nobility. She also grew up with any color in her hair.

She she was born with a full head of shimmering white hair, her parents took it as an omen of good will. They had always known she was blessed with magical abilities and the mind to ascend to great things, but growing up as a child with white hair definitely has an alienating set of circumstances with it that often excluded her rather than not.

Though well-learned, growing up she preferred company of the arts more than books. With both of her parents always teaching lessons of the past, they instilled in her a love for history. Though not an expert on all matters of history, she took to understand the importance of learning and preserving what has come before her. The true reason for her parents' dedication to history would not be made aware to her until many years after they had passed on.

Both of her parents were worshipers of Irori, the god of enlightenment, self-perfection, knowledge, healing, and inner strength. Naturally these values and beliefs were passed on to Ayalah and as she grew older she began to take these values for her own, not just her parents.

While not strictly forbidden, worship of their God took place is secret. There was no temple in town and they always kept all holy symbols and references to Irori within their home, hidden. Her parents explained that their belief was a private thing and not to be shared with the public, for they would not understand. They often prayed to Irori, thanking him for the gifts he had bestowed on her, giving praise for the great things she was meant to accomplish.

When she was only ten years old, her family was in the market shopping when a fight got out of control nearby and somehow found both of her parents dead, stabbed in the back. She saw one of the attackers unholy symbols of Asmoedeus, but she didn’t understand the connection at the time. She ran home only to find intruders going through their home as well. It became clear they were looking for her and she needed to disappear.

Without other family, she ran away and disappeared, changed her name, afraid whoever killed her parents would come after her too. She had to survive in the bitter world without family, but with her bravery and persistence, she managed to conquer all fears and doubts and remain out of reach of danger until just recently. Ayalah changed her name to Cassandixia Glencassandra, Cassie to her friends. She keeps her birth name and origin a secret from everyone, unwilling to share the information lest it lead to someone seeking her out to find her too. She moved out of northern Kintargo, leaving Yolubilis Harbor for the vibrant nightlife of Jarvis End.

Since childhood, she observed the world around her and translated those observations into story and song. As a talented child, she quickly found work backstage at the Kingargo Opera house assisting performers. She earned a meager income, but it was enough to get by and stay out of sight from the northern area of the city.

The years passed by and Cassie transitioned from the back of the stage to the front. She often took on minor roles on the stage, never accepting a lead role for fear of someone finding out who she really was. While never the lead actress, she has performed in numerous supporting roles over the last few years to great recognition. Roles that require particular complicated vocal performances or complex narration seemingly always land in her lap.

Her unique, unabashed vision resonated with the audience, revealing new perspectives as well as simple truths. She’s used to people quoting her words and looking up to her, though some authority figures deem her a rabble-rouser and troublemaker. Through luck or coincidence, after one of her performances one evening a group of Irorian followers who claimed to work with her parents approached her with a unique opportunity. The time had come for her to continue the family tradition and join their group to continue the important work that her parents, and their parents before them, had participated in, furthering the protection and restoration of history.

This is how Cassie found herself inducted into The Sacred Order of Archivists, a band of Irorian scholars dedicated to historical preservation. She’s been a member for about three years now, spending a large portion of her time in the basements of the Fantasmagorium doing her part where she can. Surrounded by scholars much like her parents, she finds herself out of place compared to some of the amazing experts here and tends to use her time helping organize and lead various efforts and projects.

On the Night of Ashes she was working late in the library, helping Josef with reorganization and expansion of a section of the library pertaining to the earliest years of Kintargo. Not officially trained in any form of weaponry or defense, all she on her was her outfit from that night at the Opera where she had been been practicing her latest part which required her to use a whip. In preparation for the part, the director had placed her with a trainer for the last few weeks teaching her how to use the weapon for maximum showmanship. These displays were meant to wow the audience, not to hit a moving target who was trying to kill her.

As the invaders quickly infiltrated their secret lair, she pulled out her whip and tried to stop one this man that advanced on her. As she slipped the whip into her hand and cracked it defiantly, the Asmoedean intruder actually backed off. Ha! Over confident in her abilities, she continued cracking the whip and appearing to be overly skilled with the weapon. The attacker fled the room and she started shouting taunts with foolish thoughts she could put a stop to this and save everyone's lives.

Oh, naivety.

Shortly there after the man returned, but this time he trailed a female who had only white in her eyes. Cassie had seen her earlier leading the effort before she retreated to this room. She tried to crack her whip to intimidate her like the other man, but this time she saw through her charade and was doomed. She caught the whip as she cracked it and yanked it from her hands with ease. She then spun the whip on her, lashing her feet and sending her to the ground where he began to lash her repeatedly in retaliation long after she had submitted. Worse yet, while she killed everyone else in the building, they decided to keep her as their pet. Specifically for the man she had intimidated the first time, someone named Azvernathi Raul.

Over the next few weeks she was tortured and told the Asomodeans everything she knew about the Sacred Order as well as all of the secrets of the lair. They broke her mind, body and spirit and yet they continued to keep her alive for their own personal reasons.
