I am also withdrawing at this point in time, I wanted to rework my background to be more meaty and less bland, but with the time remaining and the need to make an impression in the gameplay thread, I do not believe I have the time, good luck all.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I finished my Relationships section that I had at the end of my character sheet. This is just how Varin feels about everyone so far, though Arlan and Nem I couldn't fill out yet.

This is just how Varin views everyone and is no comment on what their character actually is so I hope I do not offend anyone.

Relationships:

Arlan(Not sure yet)

Beltzer Varin and Beltzer have a strange friendship that has dipped back and forth over time, but always has a small current of tension and friendly rivalry running through it. Varin views Bel as one of his closest friends.

Elize Varin can not resist teasing Lys, all in good nature of course. He holds a lot of affection for the tiny human woman but is more than aware that she can and will stand up for herself, if needs be.

Keltza Varin feels protective of Keltza, who he views as being something of a little sibling to him, in the group. He understands that, like Lys, Kel can look out for herself, but he still is not adversed to cracking the skull of anyone who messes with her.

Mellisa Varin respects Mellisa and is constantly impressed by her martial ability and strength. Varin feels a strong kinship with Mellisa due to the fact that she is close to him and Bel in height. He views her as almost his mirror in everything, the same but opposite.

Menas Varin has never known what to make of Menas. The man is pleasant and non confrontational but his beliefs and personality confuse Varin at times, making it hard for him to get a proper read on the man. He still likes and respects Menas.

Mohs Varin had been closer to Mohs brother, than to Mohs himself. Varin views Mohs as being slightly delicate at the moment and is impressed with how the man is holding himself together.

Nem (Not sure yet)

Nerak Varin thinks that Nerak, and his little familiar, are hilarious. He feels a strong sense of rivalry with Nerak and enjoys their back and forth. Nerak is one of the people that Varin would ask for advice, if he were caught in a bad situation.

Torean Having grown up with Torean, working the forges at Sara Morninghawks Smithy, Torean is one of Varins oldest and dearest friends. Varin respects the man not only for his martial ability, but for his ability with a hammer.

Wulfrum Varin and the old man have a love/hate back and forth but Varin idolizes the man to no end. The small stout Dwarf is probably the most inspirational person Varin knows, for his work with orphans, throughout the town and the surrounding areas.

Hmm, I hadn't even considered doing something of this sort. This would at least give me something to think about instead of just twiddling my thumbs while chewing on them...

Haha Yah it was something to keep me occupied but I had it listed at the start so I said with Recruitment winding down I would fill it in.

Hm. Looks like I might want to do one of those as well. Good shout that is.

Relationships:

Varin: Best way to describe the relationship between Varin and Wulfrum would be the adopted Son, a troublemaker to be sure but the tendencies towards all things dwarven kept the Wulfrum smiling almost unconsciously every time he saw the boy, trouble or no. Though he was quick to hide it before the boy could see.

Menas: Bit of a troublemaker though it was mostly to follow along with the 'crew', he didn't have the same heart for trouble but instead seemed studious and loyal to a fault.

Keltza: She was certainly one to watch out for, a bit high tempered but given her blood that was to be expected. He spent more time reigning her in and scolding her on her temper then anyone else. He'd talked to her parents several times about it but she was a stubborn one. He hoped though with age, she'd learn to control it and channel it to do some good. Of all the ones that left, he was most worried for her and hoped he see her early during those years just to check up on her.

Beltzer: The other son for lack of a better way to describe it, always nearby trying to show his might and constantly challenging anyone to better himself physically. Perhaps a bit too eager for the drink but a lot of young hot heads were eager to see what it was all about. Perhaps even more energy then his "brother", between the two he was easily exhausted.

Nerak: Young but studious, he kept out of trouble but barely kept his head out of his books. A bit easily distracted at times but otherwise he would probably be the best suited to go to if anyone ever needed info on really anything. He wouldn't have been surprised if he had heard that he became an old man overnight stuck in a library trying to read all the books before he died.

Mohs: Ever in the shadow of his actual brother, he was always trying to prove himself and get out of that shadow. Going against the grain, swimming upstream were images that came to mind when he thought of Mohs. Upon hearing the news of his brother's death, Wulfrum was more then a little worried for Mohs as they were very close. He hopes to help the boy get past his brother's death and possible finally prove himself in his own eyes that he was just as good as his brother if not better.

Elize: The most likely to be in trouble for her mouth growing up, Wulfrum felt he spend more time telling her to apologize for the truth or being too playful with the boys then anything else. He expected her to leave a long line of boys broken hearted and swooning after her. He was honestly a bit afraid to see her all grown up cause if she kept all that spitfire then she would probably be the biggest handful out of the bunch all grown up. That and it would be hard not to see her as a little girl despite her mouth.

Arlan: This one didn't follow the others, he instead charged off on his own adventures and spent just as much time getting beat up as he did beating someone up. It seemed like every time the others got in a fight, he'd come charging out of no where throwing punches in every direction. He at least seemed to have channeled that some over time but this boy spend more time on Wulfrum bad side then any other. He hopes that with age and wisdom that might pull a 180.

Here I thought Lorn was picking on Varin to much with his complex, which is indirectly Nerak's complex about being a weak Ulfen. Glad they were both so well received. xD

I like the way every one has little clashes but all in good spirits. Rivalries and support all around.

Haha Nah Lorn is too entertaining for Varin to be truly angry.

Yeah it is really like a little family, it is fun. :)

I really like Wulfrums relationships. Haha Yeah Adoptive Father seems like the exact thing yeah.

Lol, it is a bit and I'm curious to see if I am about to try and do a little non-lethal to another PC >.< All in good fun and all, nothing serious just laying down a bit of discipline.

If you're referring to me, I won't be offended by a good-natured tussle. ;-)

Hahaha There is going to be a bit of a fight, I can see that. Should be fun.

Bwahaha...his heart just isn't into beating his "children" these days.
I went ahead and posted all three dice rolls, you can do the same if you choose to get him a bop back of his own medicine.

Hopefully the gm won't look at this as pvp or anything but as just a light hearted thing ^^

The deadline draws near. I considered posting in the gameplay thread, but I'm pretty sure Elise is now properly inebriated and would enjoy sitting back and looking at her friends, think about the five years that passed, and only tease Varin two or three times a minute.

Just when you thought you could get away, Arlan pulls you back in! ;-)

Oooh. Molthune, huh. We're going to have a small talk about this later on.

I just wanted to say thanks to everybody for welcoming me into the mix even though I came in so late--sorry I didn't see the thread sooner.

Even in this little time I already feel very invested in the town, so I like this setup as an opener. We all know what's coming and that not everyone is going to make it, but I want to be there to fight alongside them!

Spelling out the relationships was a good idea, so here goes:

Relationships:

Varin--fast friends, Varin was always the level-headed one and one of the few people who could talk Arlan down from a fight. For his part, Arlan would always try to get Varin to lighten up for a little mischief, rarely succeeding.

Lys--Arlan sees Lys as a little sister, the kind who you can always argue with but, when things matter the most, you know you have each other's backs. Lys was Arlan's confidant, particularly when he needed to talk about "girls" or some other topic that you don't want to talk to your mother about.

Keltza--Arlan's childhood crush. There was just something about her that tied him in knots. The usually extroverted boy could never quite find what to say, how to stand, how to sit, or do any mundane things right in her presence. When his life was in danger on the road, it was her face that he saw.

Wulfrum--not just a father-figure, but a father. Arlan's dad liked the idea of settling down, but an isolated stronghold in orcish lands is no place for an Elf with wanderlust. He left when Arlan could barely walk, and Jessa Ward (Arlan's mother) understood. She did the best she could, but had her hands full with Arlan. The boy had his moments where he seemed so angry that his father left him, and Wulfrum always set him straight. Arlan looks up to the dwarf and desires his approval and love.

Jessa Ward--one hell of a cook! How else do you think she's the chef at Cham's Ramblehouse. A short, wide-hipped Varisian woman not much taller than the halflings she lives with, she's not above standing on a chair to reach her son's over-sized ears and pull him down to her level. But she loves him with all her heart. Jessa had told him at a young age that if he ever leaves, to just go without saying goodbye. Arlan did, and it is his single biggest regret. He doesn't know how to apologize for it, and came to the Killin' Ground first before seeing his mother.

Reviewing the last submission:

Arlen:
Everything checks. However, you should increase the depth of each of your three sections of fluff: background, personality and description.

Sliiight misunderstandment there. But, it's all cool now. Varin for president.

Haha We played a Kingmaker campaign as a group of young upstart Nirmathi who were sent to establish a forward nation, against Molthunian advances. The struggle is real!

DM Jubal:
Yep, you're right--since I was late to the party I wanted to read the whole PG and get my profile fleshed out and post in-game, so I didn't have time to type up all of the background. I've updated it now and I feel that my profile, along with the relationships I've posted there and my (albeit only-recent) posts in the tavern should give you a pretty good idea of what direction I want to take Arlan. I just wanted to say whether I'm chosen or not, thanks for doing this. I've GMed before and I know it's a massive amount of work. We all appreciate it!

Ooh, that's a nice idea for a Kingmaker game. The last post would've been a bit more extended, but I decided not to ruin the mood in the party talking about Molthuni lycantrope killsquads.

Lol, it works for rolling into some roleplay

Remember to keep your characters relatively sober in Gameplay...

I think I've done so with Wulfrum...He's hardy and all ^^. Just the one drink and all and a nip

Ugh... I'll read it when I actually have the strength. I'm quite frankly too sick right now.

Bit ill over the weekend, glad people have been posting a lot though. We will see tomorrow when selections are made, good luck everyone!

I stepped away when it looked like everyone decided to wait and see. Come back after my matinee just to check and the threads have exploded. People just can't stay away from this one. Ha ha!

I hope whoever is chosen can keep this enthusiasm going, and I hope I'm one of the guys who gets to try.

I think I'll withdraw as well. I don't like the idea of a campaign still showing up in a previous alias if you have an unsuccessful recruitment (as it would in this case), it leads to a perception from any future GM that the alias/character was booted from the game for inactivity, as opposed to just missing out in a recruitment thread. There isn't really a fix for this, and I'd rather not tempt fate and get burned so I'll just gracefully exist.

Not gonna lie, the pins and needles are starting to hit. Anxiety HOOOO...

Yuup. Getting close now!

Taste the anticipation, for it is gritty and bitter. Only one knows if it's finish will be sweet or sour. So we wait for him. ;)

Would sound so much better in a Dracula voice I think for some strange reason. Could be my brain wacky from lack of sleep. xP

Recruitment ends in just 8 hours, right? 8am EST?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yep yep, but sadly for me I'm up for most likely another...5hours cause yah know insomnia through pain LOVELY ^^. But I shall be eager for the morning ^^

Oh I know all about insomnia, trust me. It is currently 5:45am here... :(

Regardless of the results, I won't be able to check until later today. I was pretty sick all of yesterday and I'm headed over to the doctor today. No matter what happens now, it has been a blast guys.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who submitted characters to this recruitment. You made my selection very difficult. From the many great characters, I have selected the following eight to be the primary protagonists of this story. Three more than I had planned:

  • Varin - Titan Fighter, two-handed weapon focus - Neutral Good
  • Arlan Ward - Half-Elf Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist) /Brawler (Mutagenic Mauler) – Chaotic Good
  • Elize - Human crossbowslinger, Ranged focus – Neutral Good
  • Keltza - Half-orc Life oracle, divine spells and healing - Lawful Evil
  • Wulfrum Boulderhead - Dwarf Warpriest of Torag – Neutral Good
  • Nerak - Human Wizard, Utility spell caster and blaster – Lawful Neutral
  • Beltzer - Half-orc Skald, Melee combat buffer with self healing – Neutral Good
  • Mohs Freidricson - Dwarf Wizard (Earth Elementalist) – Lawful Neutral

    If you have been selected for the game, please check into the Discussion thread.

    If you have not been selected for the game, your character will continue on in the campaign background. As in many games, if players discontinue, I will approach you first to become replacements. Thank you for your time and effort.

    Cheers

  • Need to reopen recruitment. We still have the following player characters:
    * Elize
    * Wulfrum
    * Nerak

    Please refer to the first post for submissions. The only difference is the following:
    * 6th level
    * 16k gp

    I'll give 48 hours before recruitment closed.

    cheers

    My submission. Will require some rework to fit the scenario and level up, but he was initially created for a giantslayer game but never got in. How thorough do you want the crunch?

    I’m interested. Could go several ways with a character. Let me think on it.

    I am going to put together an unchained monk tomorrow, if you allow that as a playable class.

    @Ben. I don’t know how to answer your question.

    @Gerald. Unchained monk is fine.

    Well now, this is interesting.

    Maybe a melee Slayer or some form of healer.

    I will check gameplay thread to try and find where you are geographically, maybe make it easier to work into.

    DM, do we still take a campaign trait? I'm assuming the party is no longer in Truneau currently.

    Here is a preliminary draft of Gerald's unchained monk.

    For your review a start of my character. Zekal is a cleric of Erastil with an unpleasant personal connection to giants.

    Good point. Campaign trait is not necessary

    Definitely interested. Will probably be playing a melee druid, cleric or hunter. Will have completed character soon.

    Argden Jutenblud (wip)

    Background:

    The city smelled of urine, decay and sweat. It sickened and disgusted the muscular, wild-looking half-orc. Snorting as he passed the foul fish market heading towards the tavern, Argden felt overwhelmed and confused by the many streets, alleys and dead-ends of the large city.

    He missed the wide open fields, the rolling hills, and deep forests of his native Brevoy. Far to the north of the city it had taken him months of dangerous travel to reach the meeting place.

    Shiny jet black armor, made from the supple hide of the terror of the Dark Moors, Azzitherys the Black, shimmers under a heavy cloak

    @Ben. I don’t know how to answer your question.

    The character write up only has stats and gear for level 1. The feat progression is determined but I have not worked out his hit points, spells, saving throws, etc. In other words, the crunch/math. Some recruiters are more interested in the character concepts and making sure there is a balanced party than the actual crunch and will let that wait until after selection. After all, that math takes a hour or two of work. But if it is part of your selection process, seeing the crunch, then I'll be happy to put the time in.
