Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Uhvat and Galonor step into the water, feeling the current increase as they move toward the waterfall. The water is about two feet deep and the floor covered with rubble, making it difficult terrain. 1d2 ⇒ 1 Suddenly Galanor feels a sudden surge in the water as a man-shaped mass of water rises up and tries to slam into him!

Uhvat briefly concentrates, pulling forth a chilling energy to sheathe his lash as he moves forward. Once in position, he brings down the lash with a mightly blow.

Chinchi leads his gecko up the side of the wall, holding his flag up high, and let's his performance hang in the air, knowing he can pick it back up if need be. Lingering performance will continue the inspiration for 2 more rounds.
Spinning some magic into his song, he casts Moment of Greatness.
Inspiration gives you a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.
Flagbearer gives you each a +1 morale bonus on attack, damage and saving throws against fear and charm effects.
Moment of greatness adds: If the affected creature is benefiting from a morale bonus of any type, it can double that morale bonus on one roll or check, before making the roll. Once an affected creature uses this spell's effect, the spell is discharged for that subject.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Uhvat's lash hits the watery form and smacks away a great deal of it, while Chinchi inspires!
Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Gadrielle!

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Gadrielle hangs back, seeing the water getting too crowded!
Black Sun, Galonor and Zifan are up!

![]() |

Oh, oh, oh!
Gadrielle suppresses a curse as she moves up into the room as quickly as she can to aid her companions!
Double move.

![]() |

Sorry I missed I was up.
Zifan books it toward the room. She gives the creature the Evil Eye.
-2 to Attack for 7 rounds unless he makes a DC 16 Will save. Then it's one round.

Galonor is caught off guard but reacts immediately in the only way he knows, with violence. The half-orc takes a step back to balance his weight in the waters and turns to swing his greatsword in the direction of his foe. Perfectly, he shifts his body's momentum into his weapon, swinging with great power.
Greatsword,PA: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 8 - 1 = 27S: 2d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 + 3 = 15
OOOO crit.
Greatsword,PA: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 8 - 1 = 21S: 2d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 2) + 6 + 3 = 17

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Galonor's swing is enough to end the water elemental's existence on this plane, dissolving the form and sending it back to its watery roots. The room still has a strong current pulling toward the waterfall, but other than that, it's quiet.

![]() |

Uhvat edge closer to the waterfall carefully, keeping his senses receptive to any other surprises, above or underwater.
perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

Galonor the Brave |

"That water creature is not of this plane? I wonder how it found itself in this place." As Galonor speaks his mind, he wanders slightly north with his weapon ever ready to strike while Uhvat threads the waters edge.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Uhvat doesn't spot anything else in this room, but the closer he gets to the waterfall, the more he smells a deep scent of dead things. Dead waterlogged things.
This room is filled from wall to wall with water that reeks of dead sea life. A cascade pouring from the northern wall churns up silt and other filth in the water, creating a murky mess.

![]() |

How much lower is that room compared to ours? And you mentioned that the water is murky. So I guess we can't tell how deep the water is in that next room?

![]() |

"I would rather not jump into that. Not without know what it hides." Uhvat sticks his head a bit to look around. "Looks like another passageway into that. Shall we try it?"
The passage near Zifan seem to descend to that room. Shall we try that?

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

There are stairs that lead around to the lower room, or there's a new route to the north. Which one would you like to try?

![]() |

"Let's do that than. Let's try the route to the north first." Uhvat moves up behind Galonor. "Whenever you're ready, friend."

Galonor the Brave |

At the signal, Galonor fearlessly trudges through the flooded path north bound while proclaiming the groups arrival. "If there are creatures beyond, we mean you no harm if you mean us none! We treat violence with violence."

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Galonor steps into a large waterlogged room. (Two feet deep in this room, at least where Galonor is standing. Difficult terrain.) A half-submerged shimmering area on this room’s north wall occasionally spurts out water. Sturdy tables stand about a foot above the water level. Some are stacked with crates, others with bedding.
The shimmering area gives a burping sound and a wave of water, complete with kelp, a couple confused fish and one agitated crab spills into the room. About 20 seconds later another wave of water belches in; this must be where the water is coming from.
At Galonor's words a larger version of the water elemental from the other room rises from the water near the portal and makes noises that might be language.

![]() |

Uhvat raises his lash defensively but takes a step back, seeing that the creature isn't immediately hostile like that previous one. Uncertain what it's saying though, he looks back at his team to see if anyone has any idea.

![]() |

Zifan casts Comprehend Languages on herself. "He wants us to prove we are allied with the scientists or we'll be "expelled". We didn't get anything from the scientists did we?"

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

The water elemental does not seem to understand your replies in Common. Instead it just seems to inflate itself menacingly.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

The elemental is looks hostile. Do you want to withdraw to talk to the Undine or fight the watery foe?

![]() |

"Let's withdraw and speak to the undine. There is no need for unnecessary battle, especially if this is a friend."

![]() |

Gadrielle, a little aloof, just nods in agreement. Let's see if we can calm this one down.
As they begin to head back though, she voices "Didn't he ask us not to disturb him again? I would rather we respect his wishes, given how reasonable they are."

![]() |

"I wish I knew that language, but who knew we'd need to know a planar language in a dungeon?"
"Let's try the other direction. Maybe we can find a way around this elemental."

![]() |

As far I can tell from the map, the only other way (other than to jump down into the murky waters in the chamber in the centre), is all the way back the stairs, where Chinchi's token is right now. I'm fine with that.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

You head back to the first chamber where the Unduine, Jorqual, is making notes in his notebook. He looks up as you pass through and stop. He frowns slightly and takes note of your looks. "Yes? Is something wrong? Do I have a crab on my head again?" He brushes his hair to dislodge any random crabs that might be there. "Tiny little clingers crawl everywhere, you know. I found one in my boot once. And I was wearing it at the time. Can't explain it."

![]() |

"There's an elemental downstairs who says we can't pass without permission. I can understand him, but not tell him. Thought we'd try to go around the other way. I don't want to upset your people." Zifan says as they walk by. "No crabs on your head this time."

![]() |

Uhvat bows apologetically. "We apologise for bothering you once again. Said it worked for ... some scientists?"

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

"Myself and my sisters. I can talk to him for you. I need a breather anyway." He stretches for a moment, causing joints to pop before he walks with you to the room where the large elemental waits. He pauses and makes some burbling noises, to which the elemental responds in turn.
"I see, Master. Are you sure you're not under duress?"
"No, I'm fine. Just overworked. The nuances of this magic are... intriguing. I still cannot understand why and how this spire was constructed and to what end. One moment it seems to be a battery, the next it seems to be a generator, then it's completely neither here nor there and it confounds explanation. I wonder if Schwiger's Collary to the Law of Mana Conversion applies, but I fear that Yrrark's Postulate of Magic Conservation does not allow for such a..."
"Sir? I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Ah, right. Back to your work then."
"Yes sir."
He turns back and the water elemental fades into the water. "Brinewind should pose you no further issue."

![]() |

Black Sun at last speaks after some time spent staring at the scientist.
"There is a crab to your vine on the Shadow Plane."

![]() |

"Thank you, Master Scholar. That was most appreciated."
Turning to his fellow warrior in arms, he replies, "Yes, the elemental has allowed us to pass. Let's go."
I've placed Uhvat where I think we were attempting to head before being stopped by the elemental.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Uhvat discovers a ladder heading downward into a hole, that seems to link to the south. He'll need to hold his breath, and there feels like a current is pulling toward that hole.

![]() |

"Thank you for your help. We appreciate it. I hope you have a breakthrough on your research soon."
"It was a lot of effort to get to this ladder. I guess we're going swimming." Zifan will follow Uhvat's lead I assume down the ladder.

![]() |

As Galonor feels the current's pull he takes a step back and considers the risk, "Perhaps one of us should explore first with a rope around the waist? That way we can retrieve person should there be danger."

![]() |

"That is a good i dea, Galonor." Uhvat stops to look around briefly, then continues. "Let me do it. I'm least weighed down by armor."
I think Uhvat has the highest swim check of +5

![]() |

"I have some rope. I think." she digs through her bag. "No I'm sorry no rope."
