The devil went down to Georgia
He was lookin' for a soul to steal
He was in a bind
'Cause he was way behind
And he was willin' to make a deal
When he came upon this young girl
Sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot
And the devil jumped
Up on a hickory stump
And said, "girl, let me tell you what
I guess you didn't know it
But I'm a fiddle player too
And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you
Now you play a pretty good fiddle, girl
But give the devil his due
I'll bet a fiddle of gold
Against your soul
'Cause I think I'm better than you."
They said, "my name's Jellena
And it might be a sin
But I'll take your bet
And you're gonna regret
'Cause I'm the best there's ever been."
Jellena, rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard
'Cause hell's broke loose in Georgia, and the devil deals the cards
And if you win, you get this shiny fiddle made of gold
But if you lose, the devil gets your soul
The devil opened up his case
And he said, "I'll start this show."
And fire flew from his fingertips
As he rosined up his bow
Then he pulled the bow across the strings
And it made an evil hiss
And a band of demons joined in
And it sounded something like this
When the devil finished
Jellena said, "well, you're pretty good, old son
But sit down in that chair right there
And let me show you how it's done."
She played Fire on the Mountain run boys, run
The devil's in the House of the Rising Sun
Chicken in a bread pan pickin' out dough
Granny, does your dog bite? No child, no
The devil bowed his head
Because he knew that he'd been beat
And he laid that golden fiddle
On the ground at Jellena's feet
Jellena said, "Devil, just come on back
If you ever want to try again
I done told you once you son of a b#~#*
I'm the best that's ever been."

Again, Garret reloads and waits for a spider, "No sense goin' to them, when they're comin' to me."
Round 5
Garret fires at the spider that attempts to attack Ise, after which he reloads.

Ise'dranl moves in closer to the Medium spider on him, the one that Garret previously shot. Ise'dranl short sword makes a satisfying sound as the blade slides so easily into the head, ending its life.
Aien has a shot he can take.

You hit! Damage?
GM Wolf
Between Aien's shot into the spider and Jeffrey's slice the spider drops to the ground in a puddle of its own inchor. No more spiders appear for several rounds as Jellena stops inspiring, she might just be playing for fun now.
Then a strange black insectoid humanoid comes from the forest. It cocks its head as if confused or analyzing the group. It has a tiny spider on one shoulder. It seems to have dead branches attached to its back and they rise above his head.
Jeffrey Flynn
Greetings! Hail the Man in Black. How do you like your eggs? I am about to cook some lunch. Come join us. Listen to the music.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
chef: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
While the spidersilk harvest is about to start, Flynn is prepping the cooking. The Lumberjacks need to get fed, so Flynn chores are cooking.
Jeffrey Flynn
If we create a business partnership. Man in Black nurtures a web covered glade. The lumberjacks, now Webjacks, return to harvest webs. They give the Man in Black his share. The Webjacks send the spidersilk to Sanctuary for processing. Just like lumber, but the axe accidents are traded for spider bites. Steady work for them. Have to ensure no trees are cut around the Glade of Webs and ensure no cheating of the Man in Black. I need to get him rich and confident for future plans. Flynn says quietly to just the adventurers.
Jellena Darkling

She continues to play her fiddle keeping the tune going.
Zanthias, Lord of Lightning
Baris comes barging into the glade from the forest, tripping on a root and tumbling some 30 feet to stop between the group and the 'man in black'. He slowly gets up pats himself off and is snickering as he begins to look around. Sheepishly he says, "Oh didn't see you there..." he slowly backs away from the one in black towards the group. Then says, "So friend or foe?" Notixing the spider bodies he asks, "You gonna want those crystals?"
Orik Vancasterkin
"Not personally. He wears the apparel of a Fae of the Winter Court, knows and acknowledges my right as a guide. You can speak with him, he won't attack unless provoked... more than we have already done. Collect your webs, interact with him if you choose and we will move along once you are ready." Orik relays with little emotion.
Jellena Darkling

She stops playing and puts down the fiddle in its case, takes off her backpack, pulls out a silver spike of sorts, then Jellena attempts to collect some spider silk from the closest spider, and fails.
Profession Spider Silk farmer DC 15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
As she is working with the dieing spider she spouts out, "Who else has a spike? See if you can salvage more web from the dieing spiders, we only have a limited time." Once she is done trying with the spider she starts collecting the web from the ground and lining it to a purple and green bag on her hip. She responds to Jeffery, "A solid plan if these are the spiders and silk we need."
Jeffrey Flynn
Flynn takes a two plates of food, slowly picks his way through the webbing, coming through the route Baris took, hands a plate to the Man in Black or lays one plate down on the ground a little ways from the Man in Black - depending on the sense motive. He sits down and eats some of the food. This is the closest I found to bacon. Amazing food. I am Jeffrey Flynn. What's your name? You get much visitors to your area? You can come over and join the party if you like.
Flynn slowly eats, obviously enjoying the food. Seeing the group enjoy the food and dancing.

Like to round up Baris, the adventurers, Orik, and Man in Black. The lumberjacks can be doing chores, work... People willmay wander off, as this is long winded.
Economies are going to collapse, evolve, and rise. Resources are needed. People are going to want trends and fads. People enjoy their vices. They will want good food; they will want a place to relax, music to enhance their mood. More bacon?
Tier 1 is Physiological – air, food, water, shelter, and clothing. Does Sanctuary have enough for 2,500 residents plus the new arrivals?
Tier 2 is safety – security, financial, health, insurance
Tier 3 is love and belonging – friendship, family, spouse
Tier 4 is self-esteem – respect of yourself and of others, self-confidence is thrown in there.
Tier 5 is self-actualization “What a man can be, he must be”.
The Cause has brought people to here that behave as if they are at Tier 2 through 4 but haven’t achieved Tier 1. This will cause society to implode for a time as equilibrium is restored. Nature abhors a vacuum.
The Cause has also spawned DLC- the Law Bringers. Four sets of them. When I mean Law; these groups will act in predictable, uniformly arranged groups. They will follow their instincts and won’t deviate from them unless Chaos is introduced to decision makers. One set of Law will come from the north and sweep towards Sanctuary. It will harvest wood from the forest for siege weapons, devastating the environment. Unless, they bring portable spawn points for wood. The Northern Law still will come through this area and slaughter any opposition. They still may devastate the environment to deny Sanctuary the chance to benefit from it.
There is going to be a War between Chaos and Law. The Winter Court could ally with Law. But my read on the situation is that the Winter Court will be assimilated into Law. The Winter Court will be lost. The Winter Court’s spawn points will be added to the Northern Law. Wealth and resources will be spread through the army. Winter Court tradition will be lost.
1) Personal Power. What a Person can do individually. As Cersi says, “Power is power.” In a war of thousands, Personal Power is not effective unless you can target the opposing force’s Avenue of Power. Personal Power can easily be countered. Garret and Aien proved very effective against the spiders with their guns.
Looking round for Aien. Aien, can you shoot me?
3) Create your own power base. Knowledge is Power. Create a monopoly of a resource. Establish a Guild. Create a religion. Create an Idea. Get groups to work together, consolidating bases, land, interests. There are new ideas. Ideas can be more powerful than a sword. If you inspire people, they can act positively or negatively towards that idea.
A vendor negotiates a rate for webs. You tell us when we can send a group to collect the webs in this Glade of Webs and we pay a fair price. You can be independent to us because you profit from selling your web. You will get paid per unit of measure.
A stockholder has to invest in the business. The webbing will be collected. You will have a vote in how things proceed, but there will be other votes out there that could vote against you. You would get an equal to other stock holders share, but it will be paid out quarterly. The risk is greater, because technically, if there is no profit you would share in the debt. The pain/gain share amount is adjusted as the whole organization adjusts to other expenses vs the revenue. You’ll get better prestige, you will assist in shaping policy, and the organization is there to ensure the webs continue. For instance, I would do consulting work if you had any problems with the Winter Court.
The Company doesn’t have a lot of resources at the moment, we haven’t even filed the paperwork to register an LLC, so if you had anything to contribute, such as liquid capital (things worth money can be sold easily), political ties that can help with organizing the trade around here, wagon, or wheelbarrow, miscellaneous armor and weapons from previous guests.
I suspect that the people at the lumberyard, the workers need steady work, so they can help with the farming, provide protection, and enhance your Maslow Tiers. This is how communities are created.

Aien drifts off during the middle of the long speech, tired from combat. Personal power? Avenues of Power? Is he a philosopher?:are his last thoughts before he sleeps. Upon hearing thhe word "shoot", he bolts awake, shouting, and confused. Huh? Shoot!? Guns? DANGER! *BLAM* he fires, his gun unfortunately aimed at Flynn.
Still groggy, he sees the bullet flying at Flynn, then him deflecting it.
Whoah! How! Wait... a bullet! Crap! someones shooting at us! Seeing the smoke from the barrel of his gun, he calms down. Oh...

The Fae does not touch the food at first, after watching you eat it casts a spell upon the food. Then the carapace seperates allowing a female Fae to emerge from the bio-armor. She looks at Jeffery with a disdainful look but begins to eat the delicious food. Then she slowly responds to Jeffery, "And what business would that be?"

Wait... is a spike mandatory to collect silk, or does it give you a bonus? Aien wonders out loud.

sub Man in Black with Maid in Black
Jeffrey Flynn
The second Amendment is so safe here
Blue eyes sparkling, Flynn smiles towards the Maid in Black. The trick that you did before you ate. Was that some sort of poison detection or purify food? I would be grateful to learn such an ability. That way I can ensure that I use the best ingredients when I do chef things.
To Aien and Jellena What is the limiting factor for harvesting webs? Why the limited time? Why do you have chopsticks? Would the webs already laid out in the Glade be good, or do the webs have to come from spiders? f we have to fight spiders every time, that would be a nuisance. Anyway, to start training the Webjacks this skill?
Back to the Maid in Black By chance, have there been any unsuccessful web harvesters that left those sticks?
Aien Exalmim
Aien waits for everybody to harvest their share of silk. He takes a plate of bacon and munches thoughtfully.
We need a way to manufacture harvesting spikes. Hire locals, perhaps? Also a way to get around the Dungeon Crash limitations. Access the code, perhaps. Aien shuts his eyes tightly. I just need to focus really hard. And believe! Wait for it... This is how they did in on that book... Didn't happen yet...
Jeffrey Flynn
Flynn pays attention to Aien's observations. The harvesting spikes are a bottle neck.
Watching his eyes close. Wondering if Aien has gone to sleep again.
What limitations are you talking about Aien? How would you access the code?
Garret Ironheart
Listening half-heartedly while gathering some of the nearby silk, Garret says to Aien, "What code? That admin-type, giant guy before said that this is our reality now. Not a virtual rendition of reality, but flesh and blood reality. Only real difference is there's magick. Although that in itself opens up a hell of alot of possibilities."
Profession (spidersilk collector): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

So what is the plan for training the lumberjacks? I didn't pick up the web farming skill so I can't train them.

Well, I kind of suck at it..
Professionvspider silk collector: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
The silk collecting goes much better this time. Finally!
Ise'dranl
Answering Flynn's flurry of questions, "The time limit comes from these spikes. The owner has them enchanted so that if we don't return them in a timely fashion we will be cursed. The spikes are to keep the web from clumping up."
After he finishes gathering a spool of spider silk Ise starts to gather up the crystals.
Perception to find them: 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (17) + 6 + (6) = 29
Jeffrey Flynn
Can you explain the significance of the spikes? Garret? Aien, Ise'dranl? How much time do we have before the spikes start to curse?
Once web harvesting is complete, Flynn will say polite good byes to the Maid in Black, asking how much time is needed before a new batch of webs can be harvested. Depending on Flynn's read of her, he will adjust the time talking to include some friendly small talk.
Approaching Orik Vancasterkin, Flynn watches him closely, ensuring that the Maid in Black or one of her spiders are listening. Acting casual, but not too casual. Sir, Orik Vancasterkin. How close are we to the Tree? Are we able to adjust our path for a visit? I wish to pay my respects.
Knowledge local for Tree: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
There's always a Tree. I can't pass up such a trope. They are tropes for a reason. It may have some quests to unlock, or knowledge to share.
Taking ten for any skill required
Garret Ironheart
Garret scratches his chin, "Well, the spikes are needed to collect the silk, obviously. These particular ones are borrowed from a witch back in Sanctuary. She said we had a week before the curse activates. And we're on day four..."
I think we're on day four. Fun fact: spiders are deaf, they don't have ears or aural receptors.
Aien Exalmim
She said she'll give us spikes if we collect three reams for each spike. We can ask to trade something for the secret of making them?
Jeffrey Flynn
We should collect enough reams for a surplus so we can have something to bargain with once we get to Sanctuary?
I could use another set of clothing.
What is the DC for collection of spider silk? Can someone aid another? Take ten? We may need to rush back to Sanctuary to make it in time.
Aien Exalmim
Ok, then, lets get to collecting
Aien holds out his spike for Garret to have. You're better at it...
Jeffrey Flynn
Sir Orik, what trees would speak with me the Wisdom of the Age? Can you mark my map? I believe we are under a time table to return to Sanctuary in case of curse.
Thank you, Maid in Black, for sharing our hospitality and extending your own. I am truly grateful. bows in a courtly fashion, sincere smile as blue eyes sparkle.
What are the odds that the old witch in Sanctuary truly cursed the spikes?
