Kraig Forge-Hammer |

If it isn't dispatched, Martial Mastery to pick up two weapon fighting. I don't know if I have a flanking bonus or not. Will 5 foot step to get one if possible but not gonna include it in the roll.
Unarmed1: 1d20 + 4 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 - 2 = 10
Unarmed2: 1d20 + 4 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 - 2 = 15
Unarmed1 Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
Unarmed2 Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6

GM Demonmoose |

Sorry. Am sick, so I got home from work last night and essentially passed out. Slept for a good 13 hours.
Aurusk prepares to throw his dagger, but seeing all the people surrounding the automaton, he decides to just drop it. He moves in a little closer and whips his glaive around at the creature.
[dice=Attack]d20+2
[dice=Damage]d10+3I did not add in the bardic performance because it's auditory, and I'm deaf :(
Sparks fly as Aurusk's glaive slices through the creature's midsection. Gashes are left across the circular disks in its power core. The repair drone shakes violently.

GM Demonmoose |

Slashing vertically with one hand with his sword cane, Gavin will use the flanking attack to his advantage. moving five foot in any direction necessary to do this
[dice=Attack roll]1d20+4
[dice=Damage]1d6+0
Gavin strikes the power core eye, the central red glass, causing its light to blink out. The repair drone shudders more violently.
Repair Drone Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19
Valt’s Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13
Aurusk’s Initiative: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
Gavin’s Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Alexis’ Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Nyssa’s Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Kraig’s Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Val Baine Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
Alexis' turn. Feel free to all post your combat moves ahead of time to speed up battle in the future. This is likely the final round.

Alexis Ravani |

OK demonmoose, I wasn't sure of how you wanted this to go.
Round 2
Alexis calls upon her magic to enhance her attacks swift action arcane strikeand strikes.
rapier: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 1 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8

GM Demonmoose |

For future combat, we'll do as Aurusk suggested. Characters will be split up before and after the enemy turn and happen as soon as it is posted. Also, I will skip you after a certain amount of time (probably some amount of hours), making any simple rolls, like saves as necessary. You may then jump in at any point so long as it is the same round.
This is to help speed up your group and get you to the meat of the campaign. Hope that sounds good.

GM Demonmoose |

Alexis' rapier strikes the automaton true straight through the cracked power core "eye." A small explosion occurs within the repair drone's central chassis.
Nyssa charges, cleaving one of the robot's arms off. A small stream of smoke billows out from openings in the construct's chest.
Finally, as the creature starts to power down, Kraig slams a fist into the already broken power core, punching it straight through and out of the metal enclosure of the robot's torso.
Val Baine manages a weak, "Thank you." She seems to still be a little shocked by what happened.

Valt Skyddade |

Hallit: Hey miss, are you all right? Do you understand me?
If you do, please, once you calm down, tell us your name and what happened here, as I suppose that is the automaton Khonnir Baine has brought from his expediton.
What a shame, it looks really broken now -Thinks Valt with a bit of sadness.- I wonder if someone will be able to repair it just to access its memories or make him speak...

Gavin Forgrave |

"How did this thing get activated, Val? Didn't Khonnir tell you to leave well enough alone... Silly girl. One day you are going to get yourself killed." With a large sigh, Gavin turns to face her.
"But at least you are still alive. Like Valt says, you ok outside of being a little shaken up?"

GM Demonmoose |

Val Baine looks at Valt and says,
Hallit:"I am all right. Just startled. I am called Val Baine, and this was the creature my father brought back from the expedition."
She turns to Gavin, and frowns. "It wasn't me, Gavin. I mean, I was trying to fix it to see if it would give me some answers on why Dad is still missing, but nothing I did worked. I noticed that its power core was still operational, but the silverdisks inside were completely burnt out, so I tried to replace them. But I couldn't get them out. I tried using the extraction tool, pliers, even a hammer to smash them. But I wasn't strong enough."
Val shrugs her shoulders. "So I took a break. I went to make a sandwich, then while my back was turned, it went all haywire. Like it was possessed or something. You have to believe me, Gavin."
The kellid girl looks up at Gavin, eyes wide and glistening.

Alexis Ravani |

well it's junk now. alexis checks her blade for nicks. Striking metal could damage the edge.
She eyes gavin and val. I take it you two have met?

GM Demonmoose |

Val looks at Alexis and nods.
"Gavin likes to bring in all different kinds of salvage whenever he comes to town. Its usually junk, but sometimes he brings in really weird things." She grins. "I remember the time when he brought the flying backpack. After we got it to work, it punched a hole through our roof and then flew away. Maybe its still flying up in the sky, somewhere."
She turns to Gavin.
"What did you bring this time, Gavin?"

Valt Skyddade |

Hallit: Oh, so you are Khonnir Baine daughter, that explains a lot, like what was you doing with the automaton he brought.
-Says Valt to the girl, and then gets in position so he can look to both Val and Gavin-
Hallit: Right as he said, doing this so reckless by yourself is a silly thing, but on the other hand, the idea of gathering information from the automaton was a very good one. You think is still possible?
-Asks Valt with little hope.-
Hallit: I tried to have a meeting with your father several times, but he is a very bussy man, and never had the opportunity. We will try our best to bring him back.
-Says Valt finally, to give a rise to the girls mood.
I wonder if really the robot got possesed, or just went rogue after the hammering?

GM Demonmoose |

Val Baine kneels down to examine the wreckage. She pulls out some tools from a pocket in her mechanist's outfit and pokes at the remains of the broken robot. She shakes her head.
Hallit"I don't think so. You pretty much destroyed the thing. Then again, I'm not an expert technologist like my Dad." She swallows, trying not to shake.
She nods to Valt. Hallit "Thank you for searching for my father. Torch needs him."
Val hands a set of keys to Valt.
To everyone she says,
Common "You can use the tavern as a base of operations. I have closed it temporarily because of my father Khonnir's disappearance. I didn't think it was right to have any merriment while his status is unknown. I just hope that he is okay."
She sighs. "Please don't touch the ale and wine, unless you pay for it. If the torch is down for long, it might be the last this town has for a while. We might need to ration it."

Alexis Ravani |

Thank you Val, that would be very useful. But won't that hurt your income?

Valt Skyddade |

Hallit, to Alexis: Oh, I'll be really grateful. And, if not abusive from my part, I would be happy to take some Taldane lessons, I had it in mind for some time
Answers Valt to Alexis with a soft voice.

Gavin Forgrave |

"And for the record, I brought all these fine people to help search for your father this time. Worth more than any out-of-control backpack, kiddo.
Now tell me. You have any idea on where Khonnir was going or what Khonnir was planning on doing before he set out this last time? If anything can you tell me anything about his first expedition? Anything he may have told only you?"

Aurusk "Demonscarred" |

Aurusk looks from person to person, following the conversation. Though it appears as if he missed Gavin's comments. Thank you kindly Miss Val. I think that would be a great help. He pauses, rubbing at the blood that's welled on the edge of his thumb. Though, the help we would ask of you now, is to know more of your father's recent expedition.

Kraig Forge-Hammer |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Kraig picks through the wreckage of the machine. He picks up a loose piece and examines it. "Blech. Disgusting abomination. Who would create such a thing?" He straightens up. "Should do something with this before it leaks the plague or something into the drinking water." He puts a hand on Val's shoulder, trying to comfort her. "Fear not, my brewery is running just fine, our wonderful city won't run dry. Your families competition always pushed me to excel, wouldn't be the same without your dad. We'll get him back."

GM Demonmoose |

Val turns to Alexis. "All of Torch will suffer if my father doesn't come back. He was trying to turn the purple flame back on. The Technic League will come soon to see what is happening and probably take over to explore the ruins themselves. Besides, there's no reason for adventurers to come to Torch if our flame is gone."
To everyone she says, "During the first expedition, Dad encountered I gigantic metal wall. He said that it was some kind of Glaucite composite. Super heavy, and super thick. And there were doors in it. So, he probably went through to see what was on the other side."
She motions to the scraps that were a robot, "He found this right outside the wall."
Val shakes her head. "My Dad is a powerful wizard. If he's gone this long, I don't know what could have happened to him. Please, you have to find him."

Nyssa Veshane |

Nyssa had hurried back to retrieve her bow. It's a valuable item that she does not want to loose. She gets back in time to hear Val's speech. 'Don't worry Val. I have reason to hate the Technic League. And I was hoping to use the Torch myself. I'll do the best I can to find your father."
Nyssa grins at the others. "I bet everyone here feels the same."
I usually check my PBP games a lot more on the weekends, but I'm on-call, and it's been busy.

GM Demonmoose |

"Thank you," Val says. "I can feel the sincerity in your voice. Somehow, I feel that you will be able to find my father, and bring him back to me. All of you."
She takes out a small notepad and writes with a piece of sharpened charcoal.
"Please eat and drink some of the food from the tavern. There's some ale and wine, bread and cheese and assorted meats. And avoid the bottles labeled 'fluid.'"
Val turns to Nyssa. "Are you a smith, perhaps, Miss? If you are, please feel free to use the foundry building beside the tavern."

Valt Skyddade |

Valt nods to what Nyssa said
Of course I want to investigate that metal wall... wait, she meants we feel the same about finding Khonnir Baine? Thats true too, and I must focus on it, yes.
Looking with agreement to Gavin, Valt says:
Hallit: To the temple of Brigh first then? Asks Valt looking to the rest of the party they form.

Aurusk "Demonscarred" |

Aurusk's stomach rumbles. He looks down for a moment, Yes, but we should probably grab some of the food to eat on the way. He walks over to the tavern entrance, pausing to pick up his dropped dagger. After grabbing some food, he joins the rest, prepared to go to the Temple of Brigh.

GM Demonmoose |

You head to the Temple of Brigh in search of Joram Kyte, priest of Brigh. Gavin leads you east from Khonnir's place to one of the bases of Black Hill.
Bronze wind chimes and clockwork statues decorate the domed portico of this compound dedicated to the goddess of invention. You see a small shopfront selling what appear to be scrolls and a small assortment of technological gadgets.
An old man wearing strange gadgets tucked into machinist leathers and holding an equally strange metallic staff approaches you. White hair frames his balding face. "Welcome to the Temple of Brigh, goddess of invention and technology. How can I help you, young ones?"

Valt Skyddade |

Edit: Valt speaks to Kyte at the temple once the team arrive
Hallit: Greetings, I'm Valt, and the men and women I am with, are the people that accepted the request from council member Dolga Freddert to search for the missing Khonnir Baine
Says Valt with clear voice and a serious tone.
Hallit: We are here as Dolga pointed us about your help offering to travel the underwater section in the cave entrance to the undermountain complex, place we are told Khonnir was exploring since the violet flame faded.

Nyssa Veshane |

"Weapons and armor, yes." Nyssa smiles at at Val. "I'll be sure to take you up on that offer, when I get the chance."
Nyssa listens to Valt, but she can't make sense of it. Hallit is not much spoken in Castle Urion.
She agrees with Aurusk, though. "Yes, I'm famished."
At the temple, Nyssa waits to see of one of the others wants to take the lead, and speak to the priest.

Gavin Forgrave |

Raising his hand up to his forehead in a vertical motion, fingers shaped as though wrapped around a handle, Gavin gives the customary prayer welcome to the Priest. Then he will step back in such a way to allow Aurusk to see his face (i.e. a semicircle) before speaking.
If this man is any kind of native, he will understand Valt.
"Freddert volunteered your skills to help us breathe in the flooded tunnel. I actually have a concern though. If you do help us breathe under there, how are we going to swim back out without the same magic?"

GM Demonmoose |

Joram Kyte smiles and nods to Gavin. "Actually, I volunteered them. Khonnir Baine is a good friend of mine, and of Torch. He helped me with various projects around the town, like the water purification system."[/b]
To Valt, [ooc]Hallit: "Thank you, young man. I hope that you and your party can find my friend and bring him back alive. It has been far too long for him to be missing. Hopefully, he is distracted by some strange thing and not in any danger."
The old priest swings his staff. "I can extend the duration of my water breathing spell using this. You should each have four hours of time until the magic wears off. Also, the underwater passage is not to difficult to navigate, I am told. I, myself, have not swam it, but swimming is not one of my strong suits."
He rubs a feminine mask with a rune carved into the forehead, and gives a wide smile. "Do you have any further questions, or shall we begin?"

Valt Skyddade |

Hallit: Yes, I have one -Says Valt to the man- The magic duration is a straight one, or only counts the time we are wearing it underwater?

Kraig Forge-Hammer |

"Always nice to be hopeful, but given the time that's passed and the people that have gone missing, we'd best prepare for the worst. Barely lunch and we've already been in a fight. As for the time limit, I wouldn't set your watch for it. Worst comes to worst we can leave our gear and swim out, return for it later. I expect the water will be the lesser of obstacles we will face today."

Nyssa Veshane |

Nyssa gets the meaning of the conversation, mainly because she had been thinking the same thing herself. "We just need to find Mr. Khonnir. He should be able to let us breath underwater for the trip back out. I don't think two hours will be enough time to do what we need to do..."
She turns to the priest. "I don't suppose that you have any potions that allow us to breathe underwater, that you could lend us?

GM Demonmoose |

Joram Kyte shakes his head. "No potions I'm afraid. You'll just have to make do with your ingenuity."
He touches his staff to each of you, and you feel light bluish magic surround you. The light disappears.
"There now. You should all be able to breath the water. Just don't drink it. It isn't very clean. The entrance to the underwater caves is to the west at the Weeping Pond."

Valt Skyddade |

Hallit: I'll take a run to the wares shop, to buy rope and two metal stakes, as I can't swim, I'll try to make it as easy as possible.
Says Valt while starts moving to the shop
I'll catch you in the pound, as I guess is our destination, right?

GM Demonmoose |

Together as a group you stand above the Weeping Pond, in the southwest part of Torch.
No vegetation grows on the banks of the pond, and the smell of sulfur and other chemicals permeates the air. You feel your eyes start to water just smelling it.
Who wants to dive in first?

Alexis Ravani |

Alexis looks at the water. I hope the water isn't the source of that smell. She looks reluctantly at the pool.

Valt Skyddade |

Valt starts nailing one of the stakes to the floor. Then ties one of the ropes, and makes a knot every 5 feet on it.
Hallit: If the first on crossing can take this rope head to the other, will be a lot of help for the rest.
Says Valt, while offering the other metal stake and the rope head.

Gavin Forgrave |

"I have no fear of murky water, but I am not right stable with the concept of being t'e first to meet whatever is on the other side. Maybe Sir Aurusk," Turning to Aurusk " and I can go in a pair. Then we can cross this cess-stream fair solid in case there is a hazard."

Aurusk "Demonscarred" |

Aurusk nods. I can go with, though incongruously, he sits down after the words. It's unclear what he's doing, untill he pulls a journal out of his belt pouch. He pulls two more from his backpack and begins wrapping them all with blankets and twine. He considers this for a moment then stuffs the bundle into his backpack. Aurusk stands and prepares to join Gavin.
Aurusk will just take a 10 on swim for 12, unless the filth counts as a distraction that would prevent it. If so, my roll is below.
Swim: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 (Ha not much different)

Gavin Forgrave |

After seeing Aurusk dealing with his gear, Gavin will make sure all the stoppers are set and strike his sunrod.
"This rod marks one hour. We got te get in and get out if possible."
Then Gavin pushes forth into the water.
We don't come back, wonderin' who might be takin' care of that silly girl. Too late te be worryin' now...
swim: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9
luck of the unlucky.

GM Demonmoose |

Kraig and Aurusk have no difficulty swimming across the lake and find the underground passage. The passage itself is about 45 feet. Aurusk holds the rope that Valt fashioned to help the others make the journey easier. He ties it to a stalagmite when he resurfaces.
Gavin manages to cross with the help of the rope.
Alexis, Valt and Nyssa still need to cross.
Kraig Fortitude: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Aurusk Fortitude: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Gavin Fortitude: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Both Aurusk and Gavin feel sickened by Weeping Pond's water.
Aurusk and Gavin are sickened for one hour. -2 to a lot of things.
There is a passageway to the North with two foot high water. The ledge East will need a climb check.
