Dead Man Walking! A Way of the Wicked Campaign Phase III (Inactive)

Game Master bwatford

Guilty. You are a lawbreaker – the worst of the worst. Too dangerous to live amongst the good people of Talingarde, they dragged you in chains before a magistrate and condemned you. They sent you to the worst prison in the land and there they forever marked you. They held you down and branded you with a runic F. You are forsaken. You won’t be at Branderscar Prison for long. Branderscar is only a holding pen. In three days – justice comes. In three days – everything ends. What a pity. If only there was a way out of this stinking rat-hole. If only there was a way to escape. If only… No. No one has ever escaped from Branderscar Prison. This is where your story ends.

Just so that you all know, due to some strange posts, I have now cut my choice of potential candidates for the noose down to 11 of you.

So... all of those eligible for death then. :-)

I will not say who..... but the first official party vote is in. 1 down 12 to go....

Hey, we have all been the last kid picked in playground games. I really did not feel it appropriate to leave anyone out. I don't want people to feel unwanted.

If you haven't seen it (though I imagine many of you have), the BBC series Sherlock does a very cool depiction of the memory palace concept.

Edit: looks like the Wikipedia entry mentions it too. Cool stuff.

Actually I was just reading an article that said in New York during the late 19th century, there was one voting district that saw a lot of bearded men in the morning, mustachioed men in the afternoon, and clean shaven men in the evening.

I used to live in Chicago. Voting rules have been a little more flexible there at times.

Didn't one of the former mayors of Chicago apocryphally ask to be buried within city limits so that he could continue to participate in the political process?

Interesting - does that mean that voter rolls were tracked by voters' appearance? Seems more than a bit prone to corruption, relative to just tracking people by name.

Personally, I think that drawing the voting demarcation line at physical body is a little prejudice. What about all those people with split personalities? Does the morning personality get to vote, but not the afternoon or evening one? What happens if the sneaky personality heads out in the wee hours of the morning to vote before the others wake up and take over?

This was a time before two forms of ID. In fact, Tammany Hall is mostly remembered for its corruption.

If all those personalities were represented individually, they could form a sizeable lobby, and advocate for a system to address the perfectly valid concerns you raise, Tkaara.

I believe something along those lines (the shaving and the before and after voting, that is) happens in the Gangs of New York film, if memory serves.

Not sure, but possible. Fortunately, politics in Illinois are generally not that corrupt. Ok, so 4 of the last 7 governors have been indicted and gone to prison. And I recall the director of water reclamation (or something like that) getting nailed for having a pile of people on the payroll helping him run an illegal gambling ring. And then there were the Congressmen like Jesse Jackson, Jr. and Dan Rostenkowski who went to prison for a variety of reasons. And . . . ok, perhaps Chicago and Illinois is not the best place to use to show american democracy at work . . . or is it?

I'm stunned you went through such a thoughtful review of Illinois politics and didn't mention Rod Blagojevich's hair! It's so evil it could join us in Branderscar.

Ok, 9 of 13 players now reporting. Only 4 left to vote.

As a reminder to everyone. Make sure your list is in order of importance to you as far as who you would like in your party from the most important to the least important, thus is why your name should always be at the top :). Each slot is assigned a different number of points.

Make that 10 of 13.... :)

And no claiming voter intimidation or fraud. This is not Andoran everyone.

Under Asmodean Law, that hair would clearly have been punishable by incineration. Unfortunately, such is not the case in Illinois.

Aaah, this whole talk about "Vote early and often" was about political corruption.
If it cheers you up, I live in a country where a certain very old, very short, orange-coloured politician made a series of ad personam laws to protect himself from charges of corruption, collusion with Mafia and underage prostitution, making the whole law system completely useless. :/

A favorite country of mine indeed, Etna! (And now your name and the fire connection make sense, can't believe I didn't see it earlier...)

I lived in Sardinia briefly in high school and studied in Florence in college. really loved being there - though I never got to vote in Italy.

If you don't vote for Paimon, somewhere, deep within my country's purple mountain majesties, an American Bald Eagle will shed tears of blood onto the tree of liberty, forever staining it with North Korean style communism.

Sounds like true Lawful Evil, to me: work the system to your advantage! But yes, sucky IRL outside the confines of fantasy. BTW, I replied to Etna in the gameplay thread but spoilered it as part of a long post, so you may have missed it.

Guess the threat of the Doctor and Paimon fooling around with people's bones must have worked. At least for one person.

I do believe the three phase recruitment process has worked out better than I expected. Regardless of the outcome I do believe this will be by far the best group that I have ever seen put together in a PbP game. I also am really looking forward to this being a very long and very rewarding campaign for both myself as well as the players.

Only long for you because "Dungeon Master" or "Game Master" does not appear in any of the Bestiarys. Otherwise, your name would be right behind "Sir Balin" on the list.

@ Tkaara Fiakben

Obviously the pomp and circumstance of the royal court is not what you thought it would be. More a show of power and influence than justice and law. A lawful good society that is capable of grand things, much like the crusades. All in the name of good of course.

@Tkaara and Amestri: Yes and kinda yes. He got sentenced for one of the dozens of charges (the trials for most of the others are still running, and one of them has been 'resolved' by making the crime not a crime anymore <.<). He was sentenced to 4 years of prison, that then got reduced to 1 year, later changed in one year of community service in a retirement home. If you say it out loud, it sounds like a joke.

@Hecate:Ooops, missed it. I'll retcon it in the next post I'll do.

Well, considering who he was, and the fact that the "community service" was in a "retirement home", in his view the punishment was probably still something he considered "cruel and unusual".

Who chose the retirement home for his service? Perhaps he bought the one he was to work in and hired a bunch of young nurses to guide him in his 'service'. It could be party central right now. Well I suppose not right now since his community service is likely over (or almost over) by now.
