This thread is to discuss the new Council of Thieves campaign and characters. Please check out the main tab for background and character creation information. Become familiar with Westcrown as you are able given time constraints. We'll be learning a lot more about the city, but it's helpful to start out with the basics in the campaign's Player's Companion. Links to info are on the main tab.
Please post to check in when you receive this, and welcome!

Schedule:
I'm thinking one week for character and backstory creation, then I start PM RP for a day or two, then we kick off. If everybody has their characters ready by next Friday, I should be able to do PM's over the weekend and kick off... say... the Tuesday after, since I run Carrion Crown on Monday night.
I'd like to keep this moving, so please strive to check in and post once a day. I'll GMPC your character if we're stuck waiting for more than a day, but only if necessary. Keep us posted on life situations that might interfere with your ability to post here, in the discussion thread.

GM Treppa |

I'll check him out and see if his backstory needs enrichment. :)
I know CH was talking about a wizard. Anybody have other character concepts they want to explore?
Don't worry about filling party roles. Seriously. There's a Swiss army knife of NPC's for utility players if you need them. Play what you would enjoy playing.

GM Treppa |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I played a witch in LoF and it was a BLAST. That said, you have to build them carefully, but they're not difficult. I enjoy buffing more than blasting, so witch was perfect for me - some buffing, some debuffing, some attacking, lots of flying, cackling, etc.
I wouldn't play a changeling witch, even though it's their recommended class. The stat changes don't mesh with the class. I went straight human to get extra ability +2/feat/skill and it. was. awesome.

Rev Rosey |

Excellent. If you need help with character creation, give a yell here. This crew will be happy to help stat up a concept. Watch out for Taig, though. He'll turn you into a fighter swarm or some such thing.
I can play an ooze? With scimitars? Almost tempted to play a fighter for once in my life.

pinvendor |

pinvendor, checking in. I appreciate the invitation. Despite owning the AP, I am completely unfamiliar with the Council of Thieves, lol. Hadn't gotten around to reading it. I promise they will stay on the shelf like they have for a over a year now.
As far as classes, let me hit the PG up, and I will see what sounds like a good fit.

Patrick Curtin |

Just a caveat for those who haven't played with me: I often get the rules wrong. Unlike many gamers I am very bad at the gamist aspects of Pathfinder, thus I do often blunder. If I make a mistake, please feel free to call me out on it. I am always happy to understand & correct my mistakes. I also apPreciate anyone willing to double check my math on my character once he's done.

GM Treppa |

So far our roster is:
Celestial Healer: human conjurer
Patrick Curtin: some sort of witchy person
pinvendor: possible bardic rascal
Ragadolf: Still tempting into the fold. Patrick - a little help? ;)
Rev Rosey: Pending (Monday or later)
Taig: halfling paladin I'm interested in seeing Taig play lawful.

Interesting denizen for Westcrown. Thanks for the heads up. I will do some research and figure out where you might have originated - not that tieflings are all that rare in Cheliax.
Thanks for the help with Ragadolf. ;)
I hear Rev Rosey may have network issues. Other contacts in the Old Country say there's been a lot of rain that caused problems in some areas.
I believe everyone else has gotten a good start on character build and/or backstory. Well done!

OH, looky what I found!
A discussion thread, just ripe for derailing!
,...
Um, I meant JOINING! (yeah, that's what I said!) ;P
Hey guysngals. I actually tried the OTHER tabs on the linky I got and look what I found. YOU GUYS! :D
Sorry so slow. But Those few here who know me know my life is no less hectic than most. And probably moreso than many!
I'm honestly still deciding. But the fact that I am here, now, probably indicates my final answer,... ;P
Hello to all!~ Especially Pat and Rev, :D
ALright enough yammering. (for now)
I have NO idea what to play, but a couple of ideas have come to mind,...
- A cleric of a good deity (but probably not 'lawful' per se!)
And that's as far as I got with that one.
-A paladin of everyone's favorite drunken hero-god (Although in Westcrown, that might be ASKING to be disappeared by Hellknights! But the basic concept sounds fun wherever you are!) :)
-A re-make of my first ever PbP PC. 'Slidell Stormraven'
Spoiled for length-
He was a PC in my first PbP of RotRL which never finished. (Sadly, because it was comprised of many marvelously talented individuals, including Neil Spicer. Before he won the contest!) ;) In short, he was a good hearted wizard from CHeliax who had been sent out by his master(s) both to gain experience and prevent him from becoming romantically involved and 'ruining' his usefulness to his master for a possibly nefarious plan. Through RP and 'dream conversations' it was hinted that there might be much more to him than originally meets the eye. He had a familiar raven who may or may not have been under magical geas to steer his master in a certain direction.
He was from cheliax, But I ran him as a straight wiz (with a decidedly Dr whovian personality) who specialized in Conjurations, both combat and summoning. I originally ran him with an eye towards the 'Ultimate MAgus' PrC, and even took a level in Sor to do so.
If I go with the Paladin or Cleric, I'll DEFINITELY need help, as I almost never play those, and can't min/max my way out of a paper bag! ;P
Although an All-caster party sounds fun too! ,... hmm,...
<sigh> Alright, quit twisting my arm! I'm in! (As long as my time and sanity don't run out, we're all good!) ;)

GM Treppa |

Well well, look who the cat dragged in. Welcome, both of you! I'm tickled to see you, Rags. I knew you couldn't resist the monkey. ;)
Adherents of any chaotic deity must be under cover. Asmodeus doesn't mind so much if you're good, as long as you follow the laws (or lose your soul when you misread the fine print therein). But anarchic leanings? Intolerable! You'll likely end up on the Order of the Rack's thought-cleansing pyre.
As for clerics, I'll just leave this here.
Nature-oriented classes work, though rather oddly. There are plenty of woodlands and the inner sea nearby, but the city itself is entirely paved. It's been falling into disrepair, so some pavement is cracked and broken with weeds encroaching onto the marble slabs, but for the most part, it is devoid of plant life. Well, this is the case outside the Cader. If you're not from the Cader, you've no idea what is going on inside the prison district.

GM Treppa |

The Puffin almost played a paladin of a forbidden religion. His idea was to make him a 'hidden' paladin, almost a rogue, so he'd be pretty dark and shady.
He opted not to and went ranger instead, which worked very well in this campaign notpushingjustsayin'.
No healbot, but a lot of classes in Pathfinder have a little healing, so it's not necessarily a requirement. Bard, paladin, witch - all can pull off some degree of healing if configured that way, and if needed. They can also use magic items appropriately. So don't feel pushed into that role, Rev.

We do have a paladin and a witch already (although I don't know if this witch is going to have cure spells in his/her repertoire), and even Araxus has the ability to cast infernal healing in a pinch, although I don't anticipate preparing that one often. A cleric would be nice to have, of course, but I don't think it will be strictly necessary with this group.

Ragadolf |

I've always tended to play the stand-back-and-blast-them kind of PC. Not from any prejudice against in-close combat types. I just REALLY like magic, ergo wizzies and Sorc's.
Annnnnd I usually tend to end up in the middle of the fight ANYway,... ;P
(Which means that Magus will probably be my new fave.) :)

Ragadolf |

I read one of the forgotten realms novels, where the main protagonist was a cleric, but he was a cleric of Mask, (FR rogue deity) and he was definitely NOT your standard healbot. He was more of a bad-@$$ lurky type.
His counterpart, an unwilling ally at best, was a mystery for the entire book (books actually, I think it was a trilogy) until they gave big hints that he was a paladin of Mask. Again, not your standard goody-two-shoes. ;)
<Sigh> NOW I have to go dig through my bookshelves and find these books,... ;P

Ragadolf |

Found 'em!
;P
'Twilight Falling', 'Dawn of Night', and 'Midnight's Mask' aka the 'Erevis Cale Trilogy'
Yeah, they did/(do?) have a lot of good authors doing some of those books. :) I have spent WAY too much on books in general, and FR and similar in particular in my time.
From time to time I re-discover the library, but I always end up back at the bookstore,...
