Here Ry, Alaric says handing her a purse. Theres a hundred gold of my personal money not from the stores. I think we should save the stores for a wand of healing. Much better cost wise I am told. Please get me a healing potion if you can. Also a potion of magus armor if he has one available. If not another healing potion would be fine.

Turning to Alaric, she smiles and nods.

"Are you sure about using your own gold?" He seemed like a fair man.

"I can try purchasing those from Bokken. I don't know how warmly he'll receive me, but I know I will try my darnedest." She winks at Alaric.

"Please rest up and regain your strength whilst we're gone."

I will do so with pleasure thank you Ry. Tell Bokken I send my regards and I hope that he enjoyed the wine we shared. Tell him also that I will be sending north for some fine Brevoy Brandy soon and I will be happy to bring some by when I get it in. That should at least get you on his good side if nothing else. Poor man really needs some better company. Perhaps we might convince him to join us at some point in the future when we are better established.

Alaric gives you a short bow before taking your hand and planting a soft kiss upon it. Ride fast and safely my lady. Brett may be a bit unorthodox and as long as you don't run into any more spiders you should be fine. I say this last with a smile at Brett to make sure he knows I am joking.

Ry smiled at Alaric's gallantry and gracefully bowed her head. She liked his manners; they were different to most of the ones she encountered through her dealings with various ranch hands and other, back home. "Wine, you say? Ha! I see we surely did worse, in terms of "creature comforts", than your group on the first leg of our explorations! I promise to sweeten the pot by mentioning your kindly offer regarding the brandy. Thank you for the advice."

Ry nudged Tal's flanks, he was quite responsive to the smallest of touches thanks to his training, and edged closer to Brett and his pony.

Ariarh gave Alaric a healing potion back at the cave/Unholy Temple area. Did Alaric use it or can he now to heal himself, whilst she, Brett and Gideon, ride to Bokken's for more potions?

He would have given that back to you once we were back at Oleg's and thanked you for letting him hold onto it for you, he would say with a wry grin.

Female Elf Ranger 1/Bard 1

Tessara smiles as people make their plans for the day and it looks that at least she will have some piece as Ry, Brett, and Gideon will be heading out. I'll be staying here today, I have some more work to do around here and someone needs to stay here and make sure Alaric rests and doesn't get into trouble. She looks at Alaric as she speaks the last words.

That's up to Alaric... but in the meantime, Brett is still continuing with his plan.

The three of you move forward quickly, and after nearly four hours the sun is setting when you come riding over the hill to the valley that Brett has guided you to.

As you come over the crest of the hill Brett calls out in a loud voice...

"Hellloooo.... "he calls out.

Down in the valley by a clump of oak trees you see a cottage with a stream of smoke comming from the chimney. There is also a largely swollen pond with a large stream coursing south into a cluster of low-lying wetlands.

The door opens and a man comes out with a rusty pike. He sees Brett and waves happily, placing the pike aside.

Brett returns the ride and the three of you ride down to the valley by the cottage.

"Oye ye crazy little halfling bastard!"he cries out with pleasure. "And who be you bring with you?"he adds.

Brett grins and smiles "These here be some pals o' mine. We be here for a good supper and maybe to be buying some of yer potions; if ye be selling any?"

Bokken slaps his knee and chuckles warmly. He remembers fondly Brett's last "meal" that he had cooked, and is looking forward to another.

"Good enough lad, come in, come in... get a bit of food to eat, and then we'll maybe do some business..."he adds with a smile.

Bokken lets you in and Brett moves with a swift assurance around the hut. It seems rather cluttered but cozy, with a hodge-podge of beakers, vials, bottles, mortars, pestles, bowls and piles of dried mushrooms, herbs, leaves, and so forth.

You can encourage Bokken to sell you some potions, if you'd like. Right not he will sell you them for regular cost. If you are willing to make a Diplomacy roll, you can try to motivate him to sell you some potions at a cheaper price; but if you roll badly, he will be less likely to do so... Anyone want to roll Diplomacy?

Right now, Ry feels they should eat their meal together and keep it cordial and relaxed and then broach business straight afterward. She's only just met the man and doesn't want to seem pushy or insistent and disrespect the man's hospitality.

Male Dwarf Shielded Fighter

Now how is this plan going to get anywhere? Lets all run back in forth in a nice line.

Adding a few more quick words,"Stay at or around Bokken's house tonight and the rest of use will come along in the back with all the gear we can load of a few horses. That way we are not back tracking over the same space. We will leave out before day break and meet your group along the path out. Just tell me what way we will be going.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Ariarh adds some general conversation.

"Mister Bokken, my name is Ariarh. Thank you for your hospitality. My friend, Alaric, passes on his best wishes and hopes you enjoyed the wine last he was here. He also wanted me to mention that he would be happy to bring you some Brevoy Brandy next time he passes through here." Her voice is warm and she smiles.

A good point... Half the party is already at Bokken... No one said where you wanted to go.

Some suggested going south, others suggested north. There was no solid plan as to WHERE to go... And half your party still needs bed-rest to heal their wounds.

We'll see how things go in the morning... unless you want to try continue with your plan unilaterilly.

Male Dwarf Shielded Fighter

Smendor would have said that before you left he is not speaking to himself.

The group at the Post just needs to know what way to go.

Female Elf Ranger 1/Bard 1

Tessara looks over at smendor and shakes her head a little, getting tired of his persistant need to disagree with most decisions others make. You do have a good point Smendor, we need to figure out where we're going, why don't you come inside with me and we'll sit down with the map and figure that out. With Alaric being sick I suggest we need to wait to leave until he's better which won't be until tomorrow at the earliest which means we have time to plot out our trip.

"Hah! I remember that bugger, and his wine I remember better. Good enough and well made, I'll say so! Brevoy Brandy eh... that be a rare gift. What he be wanting fer it? Nodding at the man.

"Well, Mister Bokken, I can sure pass on your wishes for whiskey over the brandy, if that is your preferred drink. I do believe Alaric meant to gift you the brandy. He made no mention of asking coin for it, though I cannot speak for his intentions entirely."

Alaric is going to go rest. As long as the others are near he will engage in the planning with them.

Okay, quick thing here... Just need to know the basic map hexes you are taking... So far I've heard making a wide circle, in some degree. I need to know where you start, and where you go from there. I also would like to get a list of goods and gear that Oleg can try to order for you... that list needs to be done before you head out. So far all I heard of is a wand of magic missle... anything else? Finally, any reaction from Tess regarding Dasha's "condition"... there may be some connection to some the things and her state, if properly investigated.

"Well, well... I be more o' salt of the earth lad myself... whiskey be raw, and tasty... which reminds me..."he takes out a clay jug and pours into some clay cups a liquid that looks not unlike water.

"This here be my apple pie... taste's o' real apples, but it ain't cider. Water be clear mountain, and the grain be right fresh. Go on, try a piece... "he offers.

Anyone taste a drink of his "apple pie" drink?

Wand of healing not magic missile. I asked for Ry to try and find me a potion of mage armor if Bokken has it.

As to your first point I'm okay with heading south and exploring hex D. As for the items we want is there a gold limit each of us is held to? And tessara will talk to Svetlana once Tessara and Smendor figure out where the group is going

Tessara go sit down at one of the tables in the compound. So I think our best bet is to head south from here, explore hex D and then keep going south. I like your idea of staying out for as long as possible. If your agreeable with this plan, I'll leave securing all items from Oleg to you, I have something to talk to Svetlana about.

I'll not talk to Svetlana until smendor agrees and I'm leaving it open for him to disagree if he wishes. Oh and just an FYI if anyone cares, she still hasent gotten dressed, so she's still in an undershirt and loose fitting pants, and her hair is still not fixed.

I will Gideon says with a smile.

"Damn straight,"Brett adds, picking up the mug and clinking it with Gideon and Bokken.

Bokken glares with a horrible expression on his face at Ariarh.

"So that's how it be with ye? Too good fer my drink, eh? Well, fine then,"he grumbles darkly.

But his face changes as quickly as that when he lifts the drink and Brett and Gideon drink up.

Gideon, make a Fortitude Roll...

Brett's Fortitude roll...

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

I am guessing you want to go to hex G, then follow it around to F, E, D, C, B, A, then back to Oleg's... ? Sound good with everyone so far? Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions? By the way, you'll end up at A last.

"I meant no disrespect and I am not 'too good' for anything or anyone, sir. I am inexperienced in drinking and thus I am more cautious, is all." Ariarh stops there, not knowing if she is making things better or worse with this man. But she isn't going to drink to appease anyone.

"Mister Bokken, again I say with all courtesy, I mean no disrespect to you or your 'fine apple pie' drink. I am not 'too good' for anything in and of this world. I am simply inexperienced with drinking." Ariarh says no more, not knowing whether her words have angered the man further or helped. She would not drink something she didn't want to, simply to appease a prideful man. At this point, Dior makes his presence known, slipping out from beneath Ariarh's cloak and issuing a low growl toward Bokken.

Sounds good to Ry. Though she isn't there in/during the discussion.

Bokken cries out like a child and leaps back over the chair and hops up on a counter, seeing Dior hissing at him...

"Argh! It's a bird! No, it's a cat... no, wait... it's... it's...god's help me... what IS it...?" he calls out in a cracked voice.

You realize a few things now...

1. Brett mentioned this fellow is a bit of a 'kook'... this does not now strike you as a term meaning 'prideful'.

2. The man is a recluse hermit who has no sense of manners or courtesy, per se, but rather, has become a bit of crazy man. He is not being rude intentionally, he is simply a bit of a nut job.

3. Your griffon has not made him happy, nor you turning down his drink. But then, he may be very changeable in his mood... if you are agreeable to persuading him...

"Be calm, I beseech you, good Mister Bokken. Peace. It is only my pet griffon and he means you no harm at present. He was simply unhappy with your tone earlier on. You can say he is my little protector. You can surely understand a need for a young woman like myself to have some protection out here, far from home. Yes?"

To her griffon, "It's alright, Dior. Show this man your manners for we are guests in his home." The griffon stops his growling but continues to stare at the frightened man.

Ariarh at this point realises she may need to employ diplomacy of some kind to persuade him to back the heck down. She still sees him as prideful -- because even kooks can have unnecessary/unconscious pride. A diplomacy check?

Crazy people's pride is unpredictable... true... Make the check please :)

Diplomacy check in dealing with Bokken's fright and anger: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Meantime, I still need that Fortitude Check from Gideon...

"I thank you, good Bokken. You have shown me greater hospitality in accepting my apology. That is kind of you." Ariarh tries to encourage the man further with one of her warmest smiles (but not overly exaggerated or insincere, she makes sure to measure it just right).

To the griffon, "Dior, crawl beneath my cloak again, please. I'm alright." Ry doesn't want to make Bokken any more jittery than he already is/was and by 'hiding' Dior again, he may feel less uncomfortable.

Everyone seems pretty good right now, regarding their Fort saves.

Meantime, everyone after some conversation Bokken decides to do business, if you'd like.

Cure Light potions he is selling at 55 GP. He has 3d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 2) = 9

Endure Elements he is selling at 45 GP. He has 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 6, 1) + 2 = 10

Mage Armor he is selling at 65 GP. He ahs 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Shield of Faith +2 potion he is selling at 75 GP. He has 1 bottle

Magic Fang he is selling at 60 GP. He has 2d4 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3

He has a Jump potion he is selling at 60 GP. He has 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

"Well, I like doing business... what do you want to be buying then... "he says rubbing his hands together, the soup dripping down his chin.

"Well, what do you lads want to be buying then...?"he again impatiently.

After you make your request you will be able to return to Oleg, be home by 11:30 PM. Take an 8 hour rest, and then wake up and get to your adventure the next day. You should be able to start at sunrise.

A list of new equipment you will be bringing, plus new potions and gear will be useful. Also, be sure that if you have anything for Oleg you let him know before you leave in the morning... This will take a long time to explore. You are preparing to explore 7 hexes, this should take a while, maybe about two weeks, maybe less, maybe more. It depends on your luck, and wits. Good Hunting!

"We also require another 5 cure light potions." Ry looks over to Brett and Gideon wondering why the men are so quiet at the present time.

Brett and Gideon are enjoying the taste of their... drinks. They seem quite pleased with the flavor.

"Hmmm... buying in bulk, eh? Well, maybe we can swing a deal... 6 Cure Light potions then for 300, sounds about right. I'll sell you the shield of faith, but at straight 75, but that's the only one I got. You want a Mage Armor, too, eh?"

Bokken waves his hand with a grunt and goes back to his soup, not really paying attention. Brett says in a loud whisper... "I got the three hundred from the chest, Alaric gave you 100, you got the other 30?"he asks.

"Yes, I have the remaining 30. I brought some of my own coin just in case." Ry pondered Brett's acting skills. The man was interesting to observe and tricky.

"Good enough. You want to do this, let's do it,"he adds with harsh whisper, then turns back to Bokken.

"Four hundred and thirty for the whole deal? Done with you!"Brett says quickly. Then, he gathers the coin from the others, and puts it all together and offers it to Bokken, who gestures to the table as he continues to slurp the soup. In a moment he directs Brett to the following potions.

1 Shield of Faith
1 Mage Armor
6 Cure Light Potions

A total of 430 GP, or roughly 71, 6 silver and 4 CP a piece from the total Community Chest.

At which point Brett gathers his friends, the potions and bids Bokken a fine good night. Then, you hurry from the cottage, take your horses and ride back to Oleg's.

After a long ride back to Oleg, you get wearily into your bed and sleep comfortably the full night. In the morning you are ready to go.

I will need the following:

1. A full list of gear you each want Oleg to try to purchase.
2. A full list of gear you will be taking with you.
3. Any other information you want to give out.
4. Any other misc. data you would have taken care of before you left?

Congrats on reaching that 1,000 post, by the way! It's been almost a month, and we've all been doing some good work. I'm eager to see what happenes next as you head now to Hex G, then F, and so forth around the grid.

1. Ariarh will be asking Oleg to purchase some snow shoes for her. Maybe a waterproof lantern for those without darkvision in their group. Their group may need a canvas tarp for protection against wet/cold weather, as well.

2. The gear she will be taking is: wooden armor, scimitar, dragon-tooth dagger, sling, wrist sheath (will be wearing), manacles, rope (silk), small pouch filled with pebbles/stones, blanket roll, blanket, wet weather gear, explorer's outfit (she'll probably be wearing this), a spare set of clothing (traveller's outfit), waterskin, 2 healing kits, 2 CLW potions, Shield of Faith potion, cooking kit, mug, tea, food: cheese and trail rations, firewood, backpack and satchel (will be on her person).
3. None at this time.
4. Ariarh will need to organise some meat/treats for her griffon. Yes, he can hunt for himself but it makes sense to have meat on hand just in case, as he doesn't really like dried venison and alike. Ariarh would also like to talk to Alaric and discuss with him which spells would be best to learn/memorize before they set out exploring. He's knowledgeable in this area (as a spellcaster/sorcerer) and she respects that knowledge.

Ariarh would also like to suggest that before the group hurriedly steps back out to explore that the group get to know more about each other in terms of strengths etc. In the "battles" so far, it is reasonable to say that the group has gone in blindly and without much preparation, planning or goals. This is not only dangerous but costly (they can't keep getting hurt willy-nilly because they do not organise/plan better). There are some still reeling from wounds from previous battles and it would not hurt the group to take another day or two to prepare and make sound preparations to boot.

"I think it would be unwise to leave for yet another exploration come first light. We are not ready, unplanned, unwell/tired and disorganised. This has to stop. I don't want anyone to get hurt or die because we aren't prepared for what may lie out there. Yes, we cannot foresee every variable but we can man ourselves with a sound plan and appropriate gear and equipment. I know Smendor wants to set out tomorrow. I am suggesting we postpone that (a day or two) until we are better ready for this journey. What say you all?" Ry looks around at all the faces in the group, waiting to hear their thoughts/opinions.

It's a little weird picking gear for anything other than a pure caster. I usually use magic for a lot of this stuff. lol

1.Gear List to ask Oleg to buy
Anything Monk-ish (shuriken, Kuri, Monks robe, etc)
Crossbow, lt (and bolts, naturally)
Particularly fine staves (meaning Masterwork)
A particularly fine Sling (meaning masterwork)(and slingstones, naturally)

2. A full list of gear you will be taking with you.
(Most of this stuff is small and light, but I plan on using an extra horse for carrying gear for the party)
Camping gear (tent, Bedroll, rations)
Snowshoes (if he has them otherwise it goes under #1)
I'll be wearing the large cloak and wide-brimmed hat that I started with.
1lb sack of flour (or something similar doesn't have to be edible)
Rope (silk preferably, but hemp will do)
Block and Tackle
Chalk
Oil flask (flammable)
hand mirror
Grappling hook (if he has one)
string
needle and thread
fishhooks
ink
paper (or parchment)
bell (string, a fishhook and a bell is a lot cheaper than "alarm")
A couple of torches
extra clothes
watertight container for scrolls or maps
standard backpack, bedroll, rations
netting (very useful in multiple situations)
empty flasks
crowbar
hammer and pitons (or the "climbing kit")
mirror
standard waterskins, pouches, bags, etc.

3. Any other information you want to give out.
Nothing comes to mind

4. Any other misc. data you would have taken care of before you left?

Gideon speaks to the group,
We probably need another horse just to carry our gear.

Well thankfully that is one thing we have plenty of good Gideon. I agree with Ry's suggestion about organization but I do not believe we need to delay. We can discuss such things on the road. What we really need is someone to direct our movements during battle. Alert others to danger and so forth.

Upon further reflection Gideon will ask Oleg to keep an eye out for a small cart (or two) that can easily be pulled behind a horse without too much issue. Not a large covered one, but a small one that will allow the animal to carry more without weighing it down.

In time the rolling campsite would be useful too, but it's third party material so it may or may not be permissible. Its from the Loot for Less series put out by the Genius Guide people. Personally I like their series, but that's just me.

rolling Campsite:

Aura: faint transmutation; CL: 1st
Slot: –; Price:2,400 gp; Weight: 600 lbs
desCription
A rolling campsite looks like a typical
merchant’s carriage—able to carry four
passengers inside its cabin and a total of four
drivers and guards on the outside. It has sturdy
cargo racks on the top, back and each side. In this
mode, it weighs 600 lbs can be used to transport
people and cargo normally. When the proper
command word is given, the carriage unfolds
itself rapidly in the space of a single round
to form a campsite. The campsite includes a
stable for the mounts (which are automatically
unharnessed and placed safely within)
and a 4-person pavilion. Any cargo from
the carriage is neatly stacked next to the
stable, except for camp gear. Any camp gear
packed on the back of the carriage (including
campfire materials, cooking utensils, other
tents, bedrolls, and so on) are set up in a
circle around the carriage’s pavilion.
A second command word causes the
campsite to clean itself, and pack back onto
the carriage (which forms from the stable,
and re-harnesses its mounts). Any objects
formerly stored next to the stable now rest
inside the carriage (to a maximum of the
carriage’s cargo capacity, as determined by
the mounts pulling it).

DM Questions answered:

1. A full list of gear you each want Oleg to try to purchase.

I'm good for now on gear I think.

2. A full list of gear you will be taking with you.

Moon Bow
Breastplate
Backpack, Masterwork
Bedroll
Blanket*
Climbers Kit
Flint and steel
Trail Rations x7**
Silk Rope(50 ft)
Grappling Hook*
Cold weather outfit*
Small Tent*Sorry guys Tessara still isn't comfortable enough with any of you to sleep in the same tent...never know when hands will roam lol.
Cure Light Wounds potion(assuming Ry gives one to Tess)

*These items are going to have to be purchased from Oleg and taken out of her stack of money that is kept with him(498 gold if my count is correct)
**4 of these 7 rations are also going to have to be bought with her own money from Oleg.

3. Any other information you want to give out.
None

4. Any other misc. data you would have taken care of before you left?
See below

Tessara will wake early that next morning and will track down Drake and give him her masterwork Longbow, any arrows she might have(don't think I actually bought any to begin the game with...oops) and her grappling arrow(same thing as a grappling hook but shot from an arrow and has to be tied to silk rope). "Seeing how you seem proficient with bows I thought I would give you one, its better in a mans hands than my own anyway. Please be careful with it though it belonged to my father" she looks directly in his eyes as she said he last part, her eyes starting to water a little.

Tessara will then find Svetlana. "Watch that Dasha girl carefully, my intuition tells me their is something funny going on with her, but I don't think she's purposely doing any of the things that have happened. If I'm proven wrong Drake now has my masterwork bow so..." her words trail off but her intent is clear.

She will then buy what supplies she needs to buy from Oleg. "Morning good sir, I will be requiring some things for our journey if you have them now. I need: 1 cold weather outfit, 3 rations, a grappling hook, a small tent, and a winter blanket. Just take the gold from what your holding for me. I'd also like to take out from that stock pile about 100 gold, just in case." Once she gets the supplies from him she will smile at him "Take care Oleg, you've made this early part of this adventure at least tolerable with your hospitality and I want to thank you. Be safe and if a time comes where you need to defend your home here Drake has my old longbow and, I'm pretty sure, enough skill to use it properly. Please make sure he doesn't break it...its very special to me. And if he does breal it, let me know so I can throttle him properly when I get back." With that she will reach out her hand in a show of friendship, something she had seen done by outsiders.

She will then say goodbye to Dasha and then go back to her room to dress properly and prepare her equipment to leave, fitting what she can into her backpack. She will also pull her hair back into a pony tail so its out of her face when riding. Once that's done she will head out to the stables and prep her horse, securing anything she couldn't get into her backpack to it. Hearing Ry's suggestion she turns to face the group.

"I agree with both Ry and Alaric, we do need to start talking strategy but I'm eager to get on the road so we can do that while riding. We have a few hours before we get into new territory anyway so that will help pass the time."

Sorry for the long post...the inner writer just came out in me I guess...lol
