Dwalindor, not being the bookish type (or scroll type for that matter) is ready to move on.
"Hey, you two! Any of them scribbles worth anything? If so, lets bring em and keep movin"

Azubah |

"Oh, yes, well I am sure that there must be something of value here among these scrolls" Azubah replies as he places the two magical ones inside his pouch. If someone looks as the floor near his feet he would see a rock slide of its own accord into the oracle's path and trip him. Azubah stumbles and lets out a curse of frustration. He adds something under his breath about his 'entourage of ghosts'.

Rameth the Delver |

Rameth looks a the scrolls
1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 7 + (5) = 20 linguistics

DMummy |

The scroll you examine describes an interesting concept in magic - how to alter elementals to new forms and purposes. The scroll goes on to describe an ahkhat and the "keystone" that binds it to a building and pacifies it.
It tells you such keystones were frequently built into the foundations of structures and concealed by secret doors, much like the panel you've discovered in this room.

Rameth the Delver |

Looks like something important is behind this door.
Checks it for a trap then opens it
1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 9 + 1 = 24 percep
1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 1 = 16 DD

Rameth the Delver |

Rameth takes 10 for a 20, if that doesn't work he will take 20

DMummy |

Sorry for the delay guys; not gonna lie, Dragon Age: Inquisition dropped today and I have not been as focused on the board as I should be.
Rameth is able to open the hidden lock on this panel and as you move the massive stone sealing a cubby hole away an innocuous-looking scroll abruptly rises in the air, unraveling as it flies. It flits about with serpentine grace, baring its razor-sharp edges as it discovers intruders in its domain.
Initiative (Monster): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Initiative (Albus): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Initiative (Azubah): 1d20 ⇒ 9
Initiative (Dwalindor): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Initiative (Rameth): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
The scroll lashes out at the nearest target, Rameth.
Attack (Bleed, Grab): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Free Grapple Attempt: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
While it fails to successfully constrict Rameth, its edges slice around him and cause terrible cuts that begin to seep blood.

Rameth the Delver |

so I bleed how much each round?

![]() |

Dwalindor cannot believe his eyes, as the scroll attacks Rameth.
"You have got to be kidding, right? Attacked by a piece of paper? Oh no! Watch out...next comes paint brushes of doom!"
He grips his hammer and prepares to defend himself from other scrolls or move in to help Rameth.

Rameth the Delver |

Rameth takes a swing at the scroll using inspiration
Mutated Morning Star: 1d20 + 8 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (9) + 8 - 1 + (6) = 22 for 1d8 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 3 = 11

Rameth the Delver |

is there any knowledge?

Rameth the Delver |

Keen recollection lets me make this untrained
1d20 + 3 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 1 + (3) = 15 Arcana

Rameth the Delver |

I'm just waiting my turn

![]() |

Same here. .
If Dwalindor was not attacked he will move to attack the scRoll on Rameth
Lucern, pa: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 6 - 1 = 16 damage : 1d12 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 3 = 9

Azubah |

The idea of a scroll attacking a man seems somewhat ludicrous to Azubah and he hesitates for a few moments to be certain that this is not vision induced through madness. Once the initial shock wears off he curses the scroll with the power of Aroden.
Misfortune (Ex): At 1st level, as an immediate action, you can force a creature within 30 feet to re-roll any one d20 roll that it has just made before the results of the roll are revealed. The creature must take the result of the re-roll, even if it is worse than the original roll. Once a creature has suffered from your misfortune, it cannot be the target of this revelation again for 1 day.

DMummy |

Dwalindor's hammer attack seems to connect with the scroll but it simply furls back and doesn't seem to take any damage at all.
Albus moves up to the door and shouts at Dwalindor and Rameth to move out of the library so he can attack this new opponent, readying his sword to make the attack against the scroll if it comes into range.
The scroll seems to lash in the air before springing again at Rameth.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
It looks like it is about to strike Rameth when reality flickers and its edges move wide around the investigator.

![]() |

On his next turn, Dwalindor frustrated with the ferocious paper, will step back/away 5' and pull out an oil of magic weapon to apply to his Lucern hammer.
"Dang it...I will fix this thing, and good!"

Rameth the Delver |

crap this is not good. Must be DR 10/MAgic
Rameth swings his morning star with all his might
Mutated Morning Star: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 8 - 1 = 17 for 1d8 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 3 = 14

Rameth the Delver |

how embarrassing to get killed by a scroll

Rameth the Delver |

If i miss maybe I can get a reroll from Azubah

Azubah |

If i miss maybe I can get a reroll from Azubah
Not a bad idea.
Suddenly Azubah is inspired by Aroden's divine guidance and he channels the power of his god toward Rameth. If Aroden can unmake the present for the worse, he can do so for the better.
It is nice to see that the ranks of Aroden's faithful are increasing.

Rameth the Delver |

1d20 ⇒ 12make my attack a 19

Rameth the Delver |

Same way he made the scroll reroll. Any creature can be affects once per day

DMummy |

Huh, I've been interpreting Misfortune as a better ability apparently - making the monsters take the lower of the two rolls instead of merely the second. Although he's also been using pre-emptively, I'm not sure how well that works cast on a fellow PC when you've already rolled damage. I'll have to think about it. Well, noted.
Albus decides to move past Dwalindor and Rameth to attack the scroll as he dives past.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
His sword slashes but misses the wildly gyrating scroll as it recovers from Rameth's blow.
Finally it corrects and renews it's attack on Rameth:
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Attack (CMB, Grab): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
This time it does manage to wind around the investigator, swiftly wrapping around his head. Rameth, you realize that its binding is so tight that you cannot see, speak or, worse, breathe. Current count until you can't hold your breath: 24
See Suffocation, p. 445 Core Rulebook or synopsis: you can hold your breath for 24 rounds, any time you take a standard or full-round action you lose 1 round from that total duration, so if you attacked you'd lose 2 "rounds" out of 24 in a single round. If you are still suffocating after the 24 round counter runs out, you need to roll a Con check DC 10 (+1 per round). If you fail the check at any point you go unconscious in the round you fail the check, then you're dying the second round, then you're dead the third round.

Rameth the Delver |

Sucks to be me

![]() |

" Well just great Rameth. Now yer using your head. I was gonna hit it but maybe fire would be better?. "
is there any portion of the scroll that can be hit without hitting Rameth?.

Rameth the Delver |

Rematch thrashes and mumbles something about stupid words...and books being the death of him one day.

Rameth the Delver |

Rameth attempts to tear the scroll off
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

![]() |

"Rameth, I hate to say this but we either have to cut the thing off ya or burn it off...either could leave a mark or two. "

Rameth the Delver |

mumble mumble
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Kill it! Rameth shouts if he throws the thing off

![]() |

Dwalindor takes a swing at the scroll once Rameth breaks loose....slamming into the floor.
Magic Lucern, flank?: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 = 12 damage, piercing : 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
"Dabnabbit, hold still you stoopid piece of paper!. "
I could not tell where the thing landed ion the map, so disregard flank if not possible.

DMummy |

I could have sworn I posted that Rameth managed to pull off the scroll, I apologize guys. It's behind Rameth so you'd have to smash through the bookcase to flank him - not that you couldn't do that. I don't feel bad telling you that in this case it wouldn't matter.
Dwalindor's hammer spike slashes past the heavily breathing Rameth who's successfully removed the scroll. Sadly his spike misses the scroll, taking a huge chunk out of the temple floor.

Azubah |

Sorry, still here, just busy
Azubah draws close enough to Dwalindor to touch his weapon and say to him "Aroden has blessed your weapon! Use his power to destroy our enemy!"
Cast Magic Weapon on Dwalindor's hammer.

DMummy |

Note: Dwalindor already used magic weapon oil on his hammer, so I'll move it on the morningstar Rameth is using if you have no objection?
Albus growls in frustration regarding the vexing scroll and swings his sword down against it in both hands.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 7 - 1 = 23
Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
The scroll tears as his sword cuts into it, and it begins to writhe in agony.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
In response the variety of attacks it fails to wrap itself around Albus' head.

Rameth the Delver |

Mutated Morning Star: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 8 - 1 = 10 for 1d8 + 7 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 1 + 3 = 15
Rameth swings with his fancy magic morning star

Rameth the Delver |

Then he assists dwalindors next attack
Mutated Morning Star: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 8 - 1 = 19 Vs 10

![]() |

Dwalindor will attack the scroll again.
"Get it! "
