Yes, it is its own separate language - incidentally, I think I covered this, you don't reroll 1's on HP in this game - you get a minimum of half, so 1,2,3 is a 4.

Audia - you can pick it up and read it without any issue, you really only need to roll perception to search for hidden items or to spot something in a spontaneous way.

Honestly "minimum of half" is a way better system. Keeps everybody with balanced hitpoints in case things go south in a fight. I would rather use that one in the future, can I just keep my 8 and we start with it next lvl?

So one more question on the loot (I have not made any purchases for Dwalindor yet). With the new 3-way split and the auction...how much cash in-hand do we have for purchases and how much do we need to wait until the action completes before we receive the gold?

Dwalindor was going to purchase a +1 weapon (or upgrade) and was waiting to see if we have the ~2300gp or not already.

And as a follow-up, how many charges were left on the party CLW wand and do we want to contribute to any other party support items?

Anyway, the money should be available after the auction. Once the panic subsides, the auction house will be able to pay you since the bidders had to deposit a reserve. Totally not pulling that out of my rear end.

Its fine DM, let me know what you decide and I will write it down. On a side note carnival just started here in Rio de Janeiro. Its the city's biggest holiday of the year and last a full week. I will probably be drunk a lot of it and I am helping organize one of the street parties, so please DMNPC Albus as needed, not sure how much online time I will manage.

Arrr, me mateys.

No that's not the DM slipping out of character, but here's some news.

As some of you know, and some of you don't, the current campaign we're playing was born when fellow players and I in a Skulls & Shackles campaign were not quite sure if our DM was coming back to the game after a prolonged absence and I offered to DM that game (he did come back, then he left again. Hi Sumak!)

Well, I'd been getting an itch to play pirate again so I was trying to put together a RL table to play the AP and it was *this* close to working when some folks backed out on me. Since I don't have a printer to create maps and hate Kinkos I might have dodged a bullet there.

So I'm going to be starting the S&S AP as a PbP here on the Paizo boards with some of the players I'd signed on at the start of the RL table.

So just FYI I'll be DM'ing two, yes, two AP's on the boards. Apparently I'm not satisfied making an ass of myself for only one group of players. But I won't be losing focus on making this AP as entertaining as I possibly can, at least until you guys break the damage curve permanent and one-shot the end boss.

Tl;dr - if you haven't had enough of me DM'ing for a lifetime and/or are dying to play pirate let me know. I'll be throwing the board open for recruitment later this week and from what I've seen S&S games fill up fast. I'm looking for two or three more players.

As of now one of the RL players, our very own Calin, is playing a brawler and I haven't gotten a character whipped up for the other RL guy I know. Rest assured however that if you do wish to pick up a cutlass and raid the shipping lanes that I'll try just as hard, if not harder, to kill them as I would you.

After a bunch of reading on Alchemy vis-à-vis the Attack of Opportunity I've decided that Alchemy is pretty darn weirdly thought out.

I personally have always thought of Alchemy as a flavor version of spellcasting and extracts as drinking a potion but apparently there's quite a bit of argument about this that mostly comes down to RAI/RAW/ DM fiat arguments so to prevent confusion I thought I'd lay down some ground rules that make sense in my head.

First, extracts consumed or used (as described in the spell/formula description) as a standard action provoke an Attack of Opportunity as a spell would. They cannot be interrupted short of a disarm maneuver however, and there's no concentration check needed to ensure you finish drinking the extract.

Extracts consumed or used as a swift action, either through the spell description, Potion Glutton feat, or a magic item such as a sipping jacket do not provoke Attacks of Opportunity.

Also I've read on the boards that Alchemists can't create magic items - this is crazy town as far as I'm concerned. If you have the equivalent feat and formula for a magic item you can craft said item "alchemically" - it will work exactly like a magic item.

Rameth, this pretty much affects you right now so if you have any questions or think I've left something out let me know.

The weird things to keep in mind is that in some cases the extract is more powerful, such as enlarge person is only a standard, not a full round

The trade off is that you can't modify them with metamagic (this is why when we were discussing potion glutton being used for extracts I limited it myself to say three, that i have prepared on my belt)

As far as provoking goes, what I was getting at is that the drinking of the extract definitely provokes, but I was saying that the standard action to breathe the fire doesn't provoke. But I was fine with either happening.

I think when it comes to crafting items there are probably some that don't make sense, but in general i think that there is no reason they shouldn't. I have never had an issue with it in my games, though I only occasionally allow crafting.

In some games crafting just makes sense - like S&S where there are literally days/weeks/months where you'll have downtime built into the adventure.

In others like, say, Jade Regent where you're battling to free Minkai from the underground it may make less sense.

I don't really have an issue with crafting because it uses a feat which for a caster of any kind is a large investment.

Is this written for 4 characters or are these later ones for 6. I am fine with the pace myself, but as a Gm I know I like to feel like it is a challenge to the party.
