Hi Everyone,
Due to some work project deadlines, as well as adjusting with a new kitten addition to the family, I'll be looking to catch up with our game this weekend. We'll move pretty quickly into the next day once that happens, but in the meantime please let me know if there is anything you need for your 3rd Level (well besides a stipend increase, which isn't happening quite yet heh).
Tobias Utegg |
+1 to what Cromlich said. Stay safe!
Fethryth Teldanona |
Stay safe!
Sorry I've been MIA myself, I'm in the hospital atm. I got my gallbladder removed yesterday so I've been slightly preoccupied lol. I should be back to positing in a few days
Gemma Atherton |
Hey Feth! Congrats! You've now joined the ranks of those of us without gallbladders! Hope you're doing well and recover quickly:)
Isaac, hope you stay safe in Houston! Looks like you guys got pounded last night with the weather.
DM Vord |
Well Isaac, it's a bit eerie how telling your post was a week ago, and I'm very glad you're keeping up the good fight over there. We're all pulling for this to end in Houston, but I know the flooding is not over yet with the bayous/rivers/dams and such. Really tough stories coming across all the news mediums about what's going on there.
DM Vord |
It really seems trivial when compared to the events in Texas/Louisiana, but I am going to apologize and ask for some more time off through Labor Day to get things back on track for us. Myself and the family came down with sickness this past weekend, and in a stellar bit of timing I also have my niece visiting for the week. So I'm getting back into my writing moods again, but need some more time to have everything settle down into a better routine.
Thanks,
Vord
Emerson Hill |
Yup. I was wondering when the next big one was going to hit. Hopefully I'll still have a roof on Tuesday.
Hoping you guys are doing well and that your house was not in the flood affected areas.
DM Vord |
So I'd like to address the group here a moment, before asking for a rollcall on our gameplay going forward.
For the past couple of months I've been suffering a malaise on writing, coupled with work stress and a series of disruptions to routine since I got back from Scotland in late June. So while I would like to cite Irma for the lack of posting, or family visits, or work projects or whatever, it ultimately has boiled down to a funk with writing and writer's block. Which is unfortunate, as it blew out my enjoyment of at least one PbP game as a player, and made me one of "those guys" that can't communicate properly. Which stinks, and causes me guilt-spirals, which then adds to the malaise.
None of this is meant to be an excuse, but I felt I owed to each of you what has been going on in terms of the Zeitgeist PbP unplanned hiatus. The good news is that I'm starting to dig out of it as of tonight, and feeling that ole' writing muse come back a bit. I figured I'll start with shorter posts and not try to do the massive reset/advancement I had originally planned, and just try to do some posting every day until we get into the 4th Summer and back to some new threads with this campaign. So that's where I'm at currently.
Thanks,
Vord
Fethryth Teldanona |
Glad to hear that you guys are doing ok. No worries on the posting, take all the time you need. I understand having writer's block.
Tobias Utegg |
Good to see some posts here again!
Tobias is already leveled and ready to go, with the exception of his infused crystals that need replacing, but I'll replace those IC when we get back to the mainland, since he wouldn't be able to otherwise.
DM Vord |
In addition to working on the 4 Summer Morning Briefing post for you all to get things truly going, I'm putting together the clues/discoveries for the day of 3 Summer on the 'RHC Mysteries and Clues' profile page. I'll let you all know when that's done.
In the meantime...do what you do and all that... :)
Fethryth Teldanona |
Opinions on where we go next? Reading back on all our clues there's a few things that stand out to me
- Since we've completed our "task" for him Lorcan Kell should now let us talk to Doctor Wolfgang von Recklinghausen. I think it'd be good to get this done before we try meeting with Gale, just to have more information on hand.
- We could dig around for more information on Grannan Telbor.
- We should expect some kind of retaliation from The Family. We should stick together and have family member NPCs keep an eye out or something. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but we did strike a huge blow against them. That means making sure the Wareyes/Starter+Sorghum/Gamble/Heward Sechim have guards. Renard Woodsman and Nevard Sechim are both likely out of The Family's reach, so I'm less worried about them.
- We could go for the Cauldron Hill encounter right away. As long as we're up the hill to Mayor MacBannin's house before 2pm that's something we can do 'today'
Emerson Hill |
I think we should make talking to the Doctor and/or going to Cauldron Hill a priority. I think it depends on whether we can arrange a meeting with Lorcan Kell before 2.
Jesselle Wesmere |
Yes we need to met with Kell and chat with the good Doctor.
I do not think we have the time to get Skyseer Sechim and then get to the Nettles, by 2. I tink it will have to be the next day.
Perhaps a chat with Kell and relax just a tad, considering we have limited down time in the last 4 days.
Tobias Utegg |
Do we not have a time limit on cauldron hill though? Maybe not one that was given but we've been had rumors of earthquakes from the hill and Sechim isn't exactly healthy and in fact seems to be dying. Postponing that mission might permanently close that door.
Jesselle Wesmere |
Tobias: Agreed, but it is already 10ish. We have to see Kell and question the doctor... Then there is getting out to Cloudwater camp where we left Skyseer Sechim and than back up to the Cauldron with him before 2pm (or within the next 4 hours.) Even if we did not see Kel/Docotor right away, I think that is not possible, but the DM Vord can answer that better than I.
DM Vord |
Well while I don't want to break verisimilitude in answering your question, I'll say that if the group wants to make Nevard Sechim and Cauldron Hill "the" event for the 4th's day/night, I'll make that happen. If you'd rather run down other threads as you know them, that's fine too, though some of those aren't necessarily in the constable's full control, and/or may not happen same-day. There's no right/wrong choice here though.
It is true that there are particular events and clocks running down on their own timelines, but you all are in command of how you want to proceed on this mystery adventure!
Emerson Hill |
Well, we know that Sechim only has days or hours of life left so why don't we make that the primary goal for today.
It may take a few hours to half a day for Kell's goons to inform him that we have indeed stopped that shipment. So we may not be totally in control of when we can interview the doctor.
Gemma Atherton |
I would be inclined to go for the doctor first then Cauldron Hill. I'm hoping getting to the doctor won't take that long, unless of course we're double crossed by Kell. Ultimately, she'll go with the majority though.
Gemma would also feel strongly about not wanting to put Hume's killer on the back burner. There are certainly things that need to be attended too right away (like Cauldron Hill) but she doesn't want the murder swept under the rug. She has always felt that things aren't completely on the up and up with Lady Saxby and would hate to find out that she's somehow in league with the Danoran's and wants the true killer of Hume ignored. Gut feeling is telling me that Gale isn't at the heart of everything.
And yes, Gemma's a little paranoid and has the tendency to over think things sometimes:) But she could be right! You never know!
Tobias Utegg |
I'll be MIA this weekend as I'm getting married, should be back around Monday afternoon or so. Feel free to bot Tobias as needed!
Fethryth Teldanona |
Congrats Tobias! That's awesome!
Sorry I'm a bit MIA right now, my Grandma had a bad spell this weekend and has been in the hospital. She's home today so I'm playing catch up
DM Vord |
Congratulations and blessings to that Xynen! Wow! Yeah, I don't think "hey I need to make sure I get my posts in at the reception or honeymoon" is a good line there for you to use hehe!
No problem Feth, take care and I myself am out today role-playing in physical form, but I should be able to do more for the game on Sunday.
Fethryth Teldanona |
Is it too late to go back and change which spells I prepared this morning? I didn't think about that until just now /headdesk
DM Vord |

Fethryth hasn't had to expend any spells yet today, and she knew journeying to Cauldron Hill was a strong possibility tonight, so sure that's no problem.
DM Vord |
Gemma's most recent post just got me thinking about something from a while back: during one of your first stipend increases for Axis Island, there was a lot of discussion on a Wand of Magic Weapon. Here's the link to that discussion...and while not everyone wanted to go in on it, it appeared Anneca and Emerson and a few others scraped up enough to get it, aside from the group's Wand of Cure Light Wounds that Emerson has currently.
Does that seem like that happened? I do not see it on any character profile, principally Emerson's as it is clerical in nature.
DM Vord |
I thought we had to give it back. If we're allowed to keep it, I'll put it in my profile.
Well if you all "bought" it with group stipend funds (which looks like you did), then it is yours and is "requisitioned" properly for the group - the only question is who keeps it on their profile to use ... just put a (group) descriptor past its name to indicate it was a group purchase.
Speaking of which, the 'Wand of Cure Light Wounds (group)' needs to have that as well, as Emerson didn't individually stipend-purchase the 750gp wand.
Do any of you openly carry a wand from the smuggler's weapons cache that you didn't turn in quite yet? If so, let me know, and please put it promptly on your profile with a (borrowed) descriptor. Unless you stole one and are trying to be surreptitious about it, at which point PM me.
DM Vord |
I am going to be out of town for the next week and will be unable to post. If you need me to do something to move things along, feel free to do it.
Mainly I just wanted to make sure you had time to perform any actions or activities prior to sunset, and I think the group as a whole has this covered pretty well.
Also, I am glad you disclosed "borrowing" the Wand of Snowball for the time being, just as Emerson has the Wand of Searing Light for the time being. Wand of Magic Weapon (group item) is now known and in your inventory, so that's good as well.
DM Vord |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I do want to say though that the 'Mysterious Golden Wand' is, in game terms, a boon to you and not a cursed item or anything like that. Like the three 'Ancient Coins of Urim/Nem/Avilona' that Emerson, Gemma and Anneca carry, there are occasionally curious items that appear in the story and come into the party's keeping - as such they are not considered "unique" items and do not have to be factored into stipend levels and requisition rules. So feel free to gameplay this out as you would with Tobias, but I want to go ahead and give you the benefits of using this if/when you'd like to:
The Mysterious Golden Wand
A foot and a half of simple, pristine gold, this wand is eerily warm to the touch. It bears the profile of an aged man on its handle, his identity unknown.
* Acting more like a rod in Pathfinder terms, you can use this weapon as the (F) Focus spell component for any spell you cast, though you must wield the wand when doing so. This increases the save DC of the spell by 1.
* Once per day when a creature either fails a save against or is damaged by an attack from a spell you cast, you may have that creature be unable to teleport or shift to another plane (like dimensional anchor) for 1 round.
* Whenever a creature rolls a natural 1 on a save against a spell you cast, you may give the creature an order (as the command spell but no save) as an immediate action, which it automatically obeys for 1 round.
* While the wand is in your possession (not even wielded), you cannot teleport or be teleported.
