Female Human (Varisian) Oracle 2

Cinders moves to the cave opening the creature came from, drawing her scimitar as she moves. When she reaches the entrance, she casts light on her scimitar and peers inside.

Male Human Paladin: 2

Hiram, Round 1

Hiram rocks back on his heels as the creature bursts forth, but as it throws a boulder at Jamison, his brow sets in a very stubborn way.

"That twern't nice there, idol-on!"

Hiram loosens his lasso again as he moves forward, and whips it around his head once, and throws it at the creature's horns.

"Jus' gotta throw like Pappy showed me!"

DM Max:

  • Standard Action:Throw Lasso at creature.
  • Move action: move within 15 feet.

  • Attack with lasso against "eidolon":1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
  • Is this a ranged touch attack?
  • Damage, if successful: 1d8 ⇒ 1Wait...does this do damage, or just entangle?

  • Information on Lasso's:
  • This length of rope with a simple open knot on one end allows you to entangle a foe like you would using a net. The concentration DC to cast a spell while entangled with a lasso is 10 + the spell level being cast. An entangled creature can slip free with a DC 15 Escape Artist check as a full-round action. The lasso has 2 hit points and AC 10 PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS FOR A REGULAR VERSION, HIRAM'S IS MASTERWORK, THOUGH I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. It requires a DC 23 Strength check to break it. On a successful hit, the lasso tightens; to use it again you must spend a standard action sliding the knot to enlarge the loop.
  • FROM THE NET DESCRIPTIONIf you hit, the target is entangled. An entangled creature takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty on Dexterity, can move at only half speed, and cannot charge or run. If you control the trailing rope by succeeding on an opposed Strength check while holding it, the entangled creature can move only within the limits that the rope allows. If the entangled creature attempts to cast a spell, it must make a concentration check with a DC of 15 + the spell's level or be unable to cast the spell.
  • An entangled creature can escape with a DC 20 Escape Artist check (a full-round action).

  • Yay! a battle where Tyr is dressed for combat! =)

Tyr slides out of his horses' saddle with a metallic 'shing' of metal, drawing his great sword as he does so. He then moves to interpose himself between the non-combatants and this strange beast.

That should pretty much be all of Tyr's movement allowance for the first round.

Ducking casually out of the way of the stone, Jamison chuckles.

Ayuh, 'cause that'n sure didn't! If'n it even had a pappy.

I'll wait to see what the creature does before I figure out whatI'll do.

    Round One:

Before the winged creature's missile has even hit the earth, Eseldra unleashes a mystic dart of acid that flies unerringly to strike the creature square in the face.

Startled by the sudden appearance of such a strange creature, Euron momentarily freezes in place. His jaw drops open in surprise while his handful of earthworms drops to the ground unnoticed.

Trusting her companions to handle a lone creature, Cinders moves to investigate the cave from which the creature emerged. The light from her enchanted scimitar reveals a steep slope leading downward to a damp, rocky floor approximately 20 feet below. The cave floor at the base of the slope appears to be splashed with a dark, glistening liquid.

Hiram calmly steps forward and looses his lasso at the flying creature. With the skill of a natural-born cattleman, the young paladin loops the rope around the creature's horns and pulls tightly to bring the winged creature down to earth.

Karthas readies his greatsword and enters a state of rage.

Caught in Hiram's snare, the winged creature struggles to pull the rope entangling it from Hiram's grasp. Eidolon's Strength check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10. Hiram's opposed Strength check to control the trailing rope and prevent the eidolon from ripping the lasso from his grasp: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15. The former farmhand easily keeps the creature tethered, preventing it from flying any higher (it's currently about 20 ft up in the air).

Tyr slides down from his saddle while drawing his greatsword, moving to place himself between the creature and his friends.

Jamison is still up, then the top of Round Two with Eseldra, Euron, Cinders, Hiram, and Karthas.

    Male Human (Varisian/Ulfen) Druid 3

"Mage's lark it is," Euron grunts unsatisfactorily, dropping the worm and loose earth back to the ground.

"Ain't a natural thing, that." he says while inspecting the "winged devil" that attacked Jamison while unstrapping his ranseur and joining Eseldra.

Looking down into the cave, Euron hollars down in a gruff voice, "Look, wizard, as I'm sure you know there's about a dozen or so o'us up here and I'm not really interesting in killin' pets. Why don't you calculate the odds here with that big brain o'yours and call off the attack?"

Might be diplomacy? But Euron really isn't interested in killing someone's pet, especially when he assume the odds are so high in favor of the group.

    Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16

    Male Human Cleric 2

Jamison looses his bow and takes a shot at the creature.

If it ain't natural, I ain't in th' mood t' play nice. Dad guym thing nearly took my head off!

    1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Aw, heck, Hiram! Yuh didn't say 'th bad aim was contagious!

Eseldra moves to Cinder's position and casts a light spell on the floor of the cavern beneath the opening.

    Male Human Paladin: 2

Hiram plants his heels as the creature jerks, pulling the lasso tighter around it's horns.

He has a big grin on his face as Jamison calls out about his archery.

"Not today Mr. Jay-duba. I got'em this time."

    DM Max:
I was wondering, how to you want to work me pulling it closer? Use the movement rules within grappling? Or there is a drag new combat manuever in the APG. Let me know what you think.

    DM's Eyes Only:
    TCi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

    for Hiram:
Hmmm. Am reading over the new Drag combat maneuver. It kind of implies that you need to be grappling your opponent - or at least be right next to them - since it says "both you and your target are moved 5 feet back, with your opponent occupying your original space and you in the space behind that in a straight line." But the lasso is sort of like 'grappling at a distance' when you think about it. Alternatively, you could say that the two of you are engaged in a sort of 'tug-of-war' and try to resolve it with opposed Strength checks, but opposed Strength checks are already used to gain/maintain control over the rope and limit the creature's movement...

Thinking about it a bit more, I think the Drag maneuver may be the easiest way to adjudicate this. Your previous attack roll of 18 modified by your CMB of +3 equals an attack of 21 vs. the creature's CMD of 17 - a successful maneuver. Let's say that instead of you moving back 5 feet as you drag the creature, you instead haul in the rope by 5 feet, lowering the creature's altitude from 20 feet to 15 feet above ground surface - this would have happened during Round One. Now to pull it 5 feet closer in Round Two, I'd say that you must make another Drag check (similar to maintaining a grapple) vs. the creature's CMD of 17. If you beat its CMD by 5, you'll be able to drag it an additional five feet closer (10 feet closer total). If you don't beat its CMD, then it will stay at its current position of 15 feet above the ground.

    Round One (concluded):

Jamison looses an arrow at the flying creature, but appears to be suffering from the affliction that so impaired Hiram's aim the night before as the shot flies wide.

    Initiatives:
    Eseldra: 24
    Euron: 21
    Cinders: 16
    Hiram: 15
    Karthas: 10+
    Creature: 10-
    Tyr: 6
    Jamison: 5

    Gold Cave Entrance Map

    DM's Eyes Only:
    Ts: 1d20 + 20 + 9 + 5 - 5 ⇒ (3) + 20 + 9 + 5 - 5 = 32

    for Eseldra, Karthas, and Tyr:
The winged creature that Hiram is struggling to pull down to the ground looks vaguely familiar... Yes, in fact it bears a striking resemblance to the statue of Ol' Sharptooth, the former 'deity' of the Sootscale kobolds!

    Round Two:

    Eseldra wrote:
Eseldra moves to Cinder's position and casts a light spell on the floor of the cavern beneath the opening.

The target for a Light spell is an object touched, so I'm assuming that you cast the spell on a stone and drop it down the shaft.

Eseldra steps over next to Cinders at the cave opening. The elf wizard casts a spell of illumination on a small stone and drops it into the cave opening. The glowing stone clatters to the bottom of the slope some twenty feet below and comes to rest in a pool of red liquid splattered on the floor.

Euron joins the two women at the cave opening and calls down to anyone hidden below.

Cinders holds her position next to Eseldra and Euron, scimitar in hand and ready to attack anything that may emerge from the cave opening. (Holding action until directed by Cinders)

    for Eseldra, Euron, and Cinders:
Your vigilance is rewarded by the sound of numerous squeaks, squeals, and chitters. Suddenly a squirming, roiling mass of squeaking rats emerges into the light at the bottom of the slope and begins to quickly ascend, teeth flashing and claws scratching at everything in its path! Before you know it, the swarm of rats has almost reached your position at the cave entrance! The leading edge of the rat swarm is 5 feet below the cave opening.

Hiram and Karthas are up, then the flying creature followed by Tyr and Jamison. Then it's the top of Round Three.

    Female Human (Varisian) Oracle 2

Upon seeing what's coming, Cinders will cast burning hands into the cave opening.

    2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 x 1.5 for swarm = 6

"Karthas! Tyr! It's that magic kobold we chased away last time. Everybody, look for a kobold with a vacant glassy stare, drool, and girly features hiding someplace crying in terror. He's gotta be around here somewhere." She pauses her mocking insults to look down into the cave. "Oh, and we have rats."

Male Kellid Human Barbarian 2 / Rogue (Scout) 2

Karthas growls in frustration, waiting for the beast to be brought down to where he can strike it, moving closer to Hiram to get a better line of the creature... 5ft to M10 (free action - then delay until...

If it gets to within 5ft of the ground...
    Attack:1d20 + 6 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 - 1 = 26 (flank w/ Tyr, power attack)
    Damage:2d6 + 7 + 3 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 5) + 7 + 3 + (3) + 1 = 21 (power attack, sneak attack, dirty fighter)

    Confirm:1d20 + 6 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 - 1 = 14 (flank w/ Tyr, power attack)
    Damage:2d6 + 7 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6, 5) + 7 + 3 + 1 = 22 (power attack, dirty fighter)

Here's where things get complicated...If the creature only makes it down to 10 ft from the ground, Karthas will jump to strike at Sharptooth...

    Acrobatics:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 - That should be sufficient for a 7ft vertical jump
In this case remove 2 from the to hit for a total of 24, and 4 from the damage for a total of 17. The confirmation totals become 12 and 21.

EDIT: Come on Hiram....bring that thing down...I'd rather have the massive damage...but the Michael Jordan impersonation wouldn't be bad either. ;)

Tyr moves up to try and strike at the strange creature.

"Why does it look the way it does?" Are his observations as he advances.

    Att Roll:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

    Dam Roll:2d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5) + 4 + 2 = 13

    Male Human Cleric 2

Waiting to see what happens with the creature.

    Round Two (continued):

    DM's Eyes Only:
    Tr14: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
    Tc13: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
    Cw16: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Seeing the approaching rat swarm, Cinders casts a spell to release a cone of searing flame from her fingertips. The smell of burned flesh assaults the noses of those standing near the opening as the rats comprising the leading edge of the rat swarm squeal loudly as the flames roast them into little charred husks.

I'm going to go ahead and post for Hiram: Hiram continues to struggle with the lassoed creature. With a mighty heave the young paladin attempts to haul the creature in closer... (Drag combat maneuver vs CMD 17: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20)
... and manages to pull it down another five feet (it's now about 10 feet up in the air).

With a mighty roar, Karthas leaps into the air while slashing his greatsword at the winged creature. The Kellid's blade flashes in the sunlight as it slices through the creature's torso, cleaving it in twain! The critical hit just barely confirmed due to the creature being entangled - nice move!

The pieces of the creature tumble to the ground and disappear with a flash of sulfurous smoke.

Tyr and Jamison are up (Tyr, you can modify your action since Karthas dispatched the creature), then the top of Round Three with Eseldra, Euron, Cinders, Hiram, and Karthas.

Tyr moves forwards to help those at the cave mouth.

So, with Tyr's rate of moving, is that his actions done for the round? ;)

"Time to stomp some vermin." He says, getting ready to help repel some rats.

    Tyr Thordinsjon wrote:

Tyr only had to move 10 ft to reach those gathered around the cave mouth, so you can still take a standard action if you would like.

*Nods* Things look pretty tight at the cave opening all ready. Tyr will move to J-13 for now. *Bows*

    Male Human (Varisian/Ulfen) Druid 3

"I don't think this vermin's in the mood to chat", Euron glances at the two women. "Best we back up a bit for some room to deal with 'em."

The druid stabs downward at several of the rats with his ranseur, hoping to thin their numbers.

    Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
    Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2) + 4 = 9

Euron will then back away (to L-12), assuming the group makes a stand around the vertical of "L" against the swarm. He'll gladly take an AOO when the swarm emerges within reach.

    AOO Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
    AOO Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8

Oops! One minor change to the Round Three initiative order: Cinders after the rats but before Karthas since she held her Round Two action after the rats moved. So the Round Three initiative order looks like:

    Initiatives:
    Eseldra: 24
    Euron: 21
    Hiram: 15
    Rats: 12+
    Cinders: 12-
    Karthas: 10+
    Tyr: 6
    Jamison: 5

    Male Human Cleric 2

Seeing that his companions seem to have the situation around the cave mouth well in hand, Jamison will delay until it makes sense for him to do something.

Eseldra backs away before the rats can get there.
"I fear that my magic is of no use against something like that. Perhaps somebody with a big sword..."

    Gold Cave Entrance Map

    Round Two (concluded):

Hearing Eseldra's cry of alarm and the blast of Cinders' spell, Tyr moves over to the cave opening to assist his companions with whatever may be emerging.

Jamison stands ready, bow in-hand in case any new threat materializes.

    Initiatives:
    Eseldra: 24
    Euron: 21
    Hiram: 15
    Rats: 12+
    Cinders: 12-
    Karthas: 10+
    Tyr: 6
    Jamison: 5

    Round Three:

Eseldra backs away from the cave opening as she realizes that her magics will be of little use against a swarm of rats. I've placed Eseldra at K-9 (a 5-ft step back from her starting position at J-10), please let me know if you'd like for her to back away further from the cave.

Euron ineffectually stabs at the leading, partially charred rats with his ranseur and then backs away from the opening in anticipation of the swarm's emergence.

Hiram's up next, followed by the rats...

Actually, Eseldra goes back further, a full thirty feet, and fires an arrow at the swarm when it emerges. Rat swarms take half damage from slashing and piercing weapons, so how about an arrow from a bow?

    Round Three (continued):

Hiram gathers up his lasso as he turns to see what all the commotion is behind him.

The roiling mass of rats explodes out of the cave, swarming over Cinders in a chittering, biting mass. At the same time a much larger specimen with coal black fur and fiendishly glowing red eyes charges out behind the swarm to bite at the oracle with viciously sharp teeth.
    Swarm damage - Cinders: 1d6 ⇒ 3
    Bite Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 - Cinders MISS

As the multitude of rats spreads out Euron takes a swipe at them with his ranseur, slicing a swath of tiny bodies in twain. Eseldra looses an arrow from her longbow at the creatures, skewering several of them with one arrow.

    for Euron:
Your ranseur suspiciously encounters absolutely no resistance as it passes through the rat swarm. Upon closer inspection you see that the rats comprising the swarm are partially translucent - the swarm is actually an illusion! Unfortunately Cinders does not appear to realize this fact...

Suddenly a purple-scaled kobold bolts from the cave behind the giant rat and runs northward.

Cinders, Karthas, Tyr, and Jamison are up, then the top of Round Four with Euron and Hiram, followed by the rats. Eseldra acts after the rats since she shot at them after they emerged from the cave in Round Three.

    Male Human Cleric 2

Seeing the Kobold, Jamison quickly lets another shaft fly.

Oh no yeh don't, yeh little bugger'!

    ROUND 4:
Eseldra throws a grease spell under the kobold's feet, DC 16, squares JK-0 and 1.

Male Kellid Human Barbarian 2 / Rogue (Scout) 2

    Round 3:

Karthas charges to K2 the purple scaled kobold, slashing at the creature with a powerful swing.

    Attack:1d20 + 6 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 - 1 = 26 (charge, power attack)
    Damage:2d6 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2) + 7 + 3 = 15 (power attack)

    Confirm?:1d20 + 6 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 - 1 = 24 (charge, power attack)
    Damage:2d6 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3) + 7 + 3 = 16 (power attack)

If the kobold is actually using the run action, and denied his dex bonus, add 1d6 ⇒ 3 sneak attack damage.

EDIT: I bet that is one unhappy kobold :)

    Female Human (Varisian) Oracle 2

Cinders pushes the biting rats off her and backs away from them. Then she lets loose another blast of flames.

    Move back to J9 and cast burning hands: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 x 1.5 = 6

If all that stuff with Karthas results in a severely injured kobold, then Eseldra would just fire an acid dart, rather than waste a 1st level spell on a nearly-defeated foe.
    Touch attack 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 - 4 = 4; damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 That would go pretty wide.

If the kobold is down, she would redirect that acid dart at the giant rat, missing it also.

    for Cinders:
I just realized that I made a mistake - you do not take any damage from the rats swarming over you... in fact, you can't even feel them swarming over you because they are actually an illusion! (I just realized that illusion (figments) cannot cause damage.) However, the fiendish dire rat attacking you is quite real.

BTW, just for out-of-character knowledge - the reason you smelled burned flesh when you attacked the rat swarm with burning hands is because you actually hit the invisible spellcaster who was just inside the cave entrance. Fortunately (for him at least) he succeeded his concentration check to maintain the illusion despite the damage.

    Female Human (Varisian) Oracle 2

Revision to Cinders' action based on new information:

Cinders winces as the rats rush over her and starts to bat them away, but then stops, a look of realization coming over her face. She steps back calmly and sends a blast of fire at the big rat.

5-ft step to K11, then burning hands on the big rat. Damage as before but without the swarm multiplier.

"The swarm isn't real!" she calls out.

    Kw15: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
    Jw15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

    Round Three (continued):

Cinders steps back and lets loose with another blast of flames as she informs her companions that the swarm of rats are not real. Sure enough, the flames pass harmlessly through the rat swarm, but the giant fiendish rat squeals in pain. Dire rat Reflex save DC 14: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 = 4 hp damage

Frothing in rage, Karthas charges at the purple kobold and with a mighty swing of his greatsword attempts to slice the fleeing creature in half. A second later Jamison fires an arrow at the purple kobold. Both attacks strike true, the arrow striking the creature in the chest even as the Kellid's blade splits the hapless kobold down the middle in a gory mess.

    for Karthas:
Jamison's arrow passes right through the fleeing kobold, and your greatsword suspiciously encounters absolutely no resistance as it slices through the creature even though it appears to crumple under your assault. Upon closer inspection you see that the kobold's remains are partially translucent - it is actually an illusion! Unfortunately no one else appears to realize this fact...

Tyr still to go, then it's the top of Round Four with Euron and Hiram, followed by the giant rat and then Eseldra.

Male Kellid Human Barbarian 2 / Rogue (Scout) 2

"This damned kobold isn't real either!"

At the shouts of trickery and illusion Tyr looks about for the foe, giving special attention back towards the non-combatants.

    Male Human Paladin: 2

You go down for sickness for three days...and everything changes!

    DM Max:
  • Apologies for the absence. Thank you for the ruling on the lasso. That seems fair. Adding that info to my character sheet so that I can use it in the future. That lasso is my best combat option.
  • Do you know if using a lasso is a touch-attack?
  • Seeing the giant rat squeal in pain, Hiram snaps his lasso over his head again, and launches it at the Rat.

  • EDIT: Str check to hold on to rope when the time comes: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
  • EDIT: Added str check

    for Hiram:
I hope you're feeling better! I hope you don't mind the actions I took for you in your absence. The lasso is turning out to be a really interesting/cool combat option!

Yes, I would rule that using the lasso is a ranged touch attack - just like a net. It just seems to make sense that it would ignore armor since its whole purpose is to entangle its target. Also, your suggestion to use the Drag combat manuever with it makes a lot of sense.

    Round Three (concluded):

Wary of the multiple illusions that have been revealed, Tyr looks about for any sign of the true foe.

Euron is up then the giant rat followed by Eseldra, Cinders, Karthas, Tyr, and Jamison.

    DM Max:
  • Thanks, my wife is a preschool teacher, so I end up catching a lot of colds and things from her. Unfortunately, I have a strong immune system, so I get the kind of colds that knock a full grown man delirious for a few days. Back to semi-normal, so we should be good.
  • I am really liking where this lasso business is going so far...and the dice bots seem to be reinforcing me using it more than the bow. Ha!
  • Anytime you need to NPC Hiram, feel free, and know that I will never be upset or sore about it. Those actions were fine by me, but you need to do what you feel is necessary to keep the story moving. Thank you for running this.

    Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 = 9
Unfortunately the druid trips over a stone hidden by the rat swarm illusion and his blow goes wide, striking sparks from the side of the cave entrance.

Oops! Just realized that the fiendish dire rat has Fire Resistance 5, so it should not have taken damage from Cinders' burning hands last round. However, I initially ruled that it took the damage, so we'll say that Cinders' spell was momentarily blessed by Sarenrae to overcome the creature's energy resistance for that attack. So, with that said...
Even though it is entangled in Hiram's rope, the fiendish giant rat lunges forward to snap at Cinders, its eyes flashing with unholy malevolence as it attacks the one who wounded it with holy fire.
    Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3 - Cinders MISS

With a squawk the raven perched at the top of the crag takes wing and flies off to the west.

Eseldra, Cinders, Karthas, Tyr, and Jamison are up, then it's the top of Round Five with Euron and Hiram.

Tyr, still looking about for the one casting all the magic, moves into a better position to strike at the large rat that has been relieved.

So, a five foot step and then an attack?

    Male Human (Varisian/Ulfen) Druid 3

I approve of the action of skewering!

Euron, upon noticing the illusionary nature of the rat swarm bellows out to the others, "This Wiz-Urd is playin' tricks on us... the smallish rodents aren't real, but I wager this big one is." With a grunt, he stabs at it.

As his stab misses, he wonders for a moment if the large one truly is real, or if his aim is just that bad. Glancing back at the others, he can't help but think he sees Niko laughing at his missed attack. The druid steps back to give the others a chance to assist.

5ft step to L-12 making use of the reach weapon.

Should a round 5 action be needed before I get to post again this weekend, here's hopefully a better-than-1 roll should the rat survive the others... feel free to roll a crit on any AoOs too!

    Attack:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
    Damage:2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 4) + 4 = 12

    EDIT: The ranseur is cursed!

    Yup! Go for it!

Finding out about the illusions, Eseldra leaves the warrior types to deal with the rat and casts detect magic. It'll take a few rounds, but she'll be able to figure out if the kobold has flown the coop.

    Female Human (Varisian) Oracle 2

Cinders draws her scimitar and swipes at the rat.

    Scimitar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
    Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

    Round Four (continued):

Leaving the others to battle the giant rat, Eseldra casts a spell to allow her to see magical auras and peers about looking for hidden spellcasters.

    for Eseldra:
You spot no magical auras other than those of the rat swarm illusion, the slain purple kobold illusion, and the conjured fiendish dire rat.

In one fluid motion Cinders draws her scimitar and slices the blade through the beast's neck. With a final squeal the fiendish rat disappears in a puff of sulfurous smoke.

Karthas, Tyr, and Jamison are up to finish Round Four.

    Round Four (concluded):

Karthas, Tyr, and Jamison peer about warily, searching for any sign of an unseen enemy.

Several seconds pass in anticipation of further attack, but nothing materializes. The illusory rat swarm fades from view, as does the illusion of the slain purple kobold. No new adversaries appear to threaten the group.

Eseldra turns her gaze this way and that, her spell-enhanced vison scanning for magical auras but detecting none.

Alright, we're out of combat (for now). You each receive 300 xp.

    Male Human Paladin: 2

"Where'd it go?" Hiram turns about, looking in the forest.

He pulls his lasso in, resetting it for another toss.

"How come that bird left, and now...nothin'?"

He checks the animals quickly and comes back to the main group.

    "Y'all ok?"

Tyr nods at Hiram's question. Though he does not yet sheath his sword, moving to check on the non-combatants and the prisoners.
