If Leastrie would shift NW I can shift into flanking, though I'm not sure if I can get Sneak damage on these things. If I don't don't worry about it.
Quiven drops his bow and draws his blades. He then attacks the creature next to him!

Oh, I can only draw one at a time? I never knew that. Usually I move more than 5' when it comes up so I never had to deal with it like this, I just make a single attack anyway. Good to know!

Mordrak is unhappy with the foe so nearby. Oh! My! This is not what I bargainated for! he says, fumbling in his haversack for a wand of color spray and using it!
Not much, but DC 11 Will anyway.

You can draw both weapons as one action but you can't make a full attack in the same round since drawing the weapons is considered a move action.

![]() |

You can draw two weapons at a time if you have Two Weapon Fighting, but you can't draw weapons and make two attacks, since two attacks is a full attack, even with TWF.

DM Rah |

With a mighty swing, Fredrik defeats the last elemental, leaving the way safe to pass.
Coarse sand fills the earthy chamber beyond the doors to a height of three feet. Unworked, vine-choked walls form a canvas upon which are daubed crude paintings of powerful-looking, purple-skinned humanoids. Several thick roots droop from the ceiling at varying heights, and a musty smell permeates the air. In the room’s center, suspended from a dangling root, sways a large onyx gem.

![]() |

Yay! So one more test or gem or whateveryouwannacallit, right?

![]() |

"Strong work. If we are done here, let us move to the last wing to face its challenges and finish this puzzle."
Omrax starts heading towards the west wing.

DM Rah |

Retuning to the orchid the gem is placed in the proper petal and begins to glow just as the two previous gems.
Moving down the last passage from the orchid you find a chamber that has a large fountain with floral motifs dominating the west wall. In the fountain’s center, a playful statue of a lithe woman holds an extended goblet.
At the base of the fountain rest two clay jugs labeled “5 cups” and “3 cups.” Inspection of the statue reveals a phrase written in Common that reads, “Offer the marid exactly 4 cups and you shall receive."

![]() |

"Wait…I know this one. You oour water from one cup into another cup, then you empty a cup and fill it again. Give me a minute…"
Tal fills up the larger cup and pours it into the smaller up. He then empties the smaller up and pours the remaining water from the larger cup into the smaller. "This leaves two cups of water in the smaller up. Now watch this!"
Tal fills up the larger cup again and pours it into the remaining space available in the smaller cup, leaving exactly four cups of water in the larger cup. "Now who wants to bring this to the nice stature lady?"

![]() |

"Brilliant, Sir Talhaearn. I will gladly hand over the 4 cups of water to the lady . "
Omrax will present the cup to the woman and bow.

![]() |

It was a great idea, just poorly executed.

DM Rah |

Talhaearn completes the task and fills the marid’s goblet with 4 cups of water. The statue’s mouth slowly opens, revealing an aquamarine gem within. Returning to the orchid, you move place the last gem. A moment passes before the orchid hums, then screeches as the petals begin to move and open to reveal a stairway leading down.

![]() |

This is fantastic! I'm ready, too! Quiven will check to see if the stairway is trapped before entering.

![]() |

Omrax grabs sword and shield and joins the others descending the stairwell.

![]() |

DM Rah |

A narrow, forty-foot-long stairwell opens into a vast chamber stretching over a hundred feet from end to end. Spread throughout the vault are a series of massive columns, each rising twenty feet from the ground, leaving ten feet of open space between their beveled capitals and the domed ceiling above. Each column is covered from plinth to capital with shelves sized for books and scrolls alike.
From somewhere in the darkness ahead comes the scrape of stone and a flutter of wings, then two large creatures fly into the dim light cast by the ioun torches of Leastrie and Fredrik. They have falcon's head and great wings upon the body of a lion.

Hieracosphinxes guard their territory ruthlessly against weaker intruders, seldom giving warning before they attack. They have no use for banter and riddles, making most efforts at diplomacy rather ineffective, but can be convinced to call off their attacks by convincing shows of force coupled with information on the location of weaker prey or a gynosphinx. Though poor fliers, they still prefer to fight from the air, the better to escape if the combat turns against them.
A hieracosphinx can pounce light a lion.
The shrill shriek of a hieracosphinx deafens non-sphinxes within a close range.

Quiven, since you shot once and moved to cover you can attempt a stealth check next round and take 1 shot. (Remember speed is reduced by stealth unless you have fast stealth rogue talent). If you succeed on the stealth check you can attempt to snipe and return to hiding in the same round, but that comes with a -20 penalty to stealth.
