is there is any discussion an multiple people want an item its an awesome way to break a tie but you should still look who can use an item best or who needs it most tho. like giving a cloak of resistance is good for a lot of classes but some need them more then others (not me paladins got good saves) but I think most of us are as bright to see this.
Y'all will have to figure this out. <- that said, I do tend to give items out, especially armor and weapons that are generally intended toward a specific character. It is equipment like rings, cloaks, etc. where you will have to make choices.
i would want to ask a question i don't know if it is possible but i would like to keep the earthbreaker and klar i have now. i would like to ask the GM to make it possible to enchant them with the same amount of gold to MWK and later on to magic as a arcane class could i would pay full price for it of course but RP wise i would never part with these heirloom items.
Yup, we can work something out with this. I like continuity of equipment, etc. in a campaign.

Treasure spreadsheet is ready, linked in my stats line above. The sharing settings should allow everyone to view and edit it, but let me know if it doesn't work for anyone.
Needless to say, there's not a lot in it yet - but it tells us how much gold we'll each get from the orc gear. And there's nothing in the top section, which covers the value of magic items kept.
I agree with Borris' idea on distribution of magic items - we discuss who can most effectively use something, or who most needs something, and aim to resolve it that way. If two people have an equal claim to an item, the spreadsheet can help track who's gotten the most stuff over time.

Rather odd coincidence of real life and PbP - my significant other, of many years now, is a red-haired woman, about 5 years past her late 30's, who is named Lea. Sometimes it's hard to come up with a mental image of someone in a PbP. Not this time.

Out of town til Monday, internet is spotty up here in the boonies.
Will try to post but probably will not be able.
Sorry, feel free to bot me if needed.

Dain Harladorn |

I am really sorry for my last post girls&boys :-) I know it was not the smartest thing to do mechanics-wise (OK, it was probably one of the stupidest) but opportunities like this are rather rare, and we all love a good bar fight, right guys? Guys, guys....?

Rikar Sarakin |

Frankly, Dain, I'm surprised at you. A post like that and you didn't even make a Diplomacy check. :p

Rikar Sarakin |

@Dain - I was trying to leave room for you to play it either way - adding to the ugly comment yet steering you away if you choose. If it turns into a fight, Rikar is game...

Rikar Sarakin |

@Rikar - Is Goma male or female?
Goma is male. Curious to find out why you asked...

Rikar Sarakin |

Also - still waiting for Dain to respond in the gameplay thread, so Rikar can follow his lead. Don't want to "manage" away your fun, so do whatever you want, and I'll happily play along.

Rikar Sarakin |

Sorry for the wait guys, RL was very demanding of me. Reading your posts and updating soon.
Oh, goodie! Now we can have our fight!

DM Papa.DRB |

Meadowvale to Temple of Iri - about two hour walk.
Meadowvale to the bottom of Mount Moru - about 100 miles.
Meadowvale to Dwarven Stronghold - about 105 miles. It is just to the east of Mount Moru in the foothills of the mountain.
At 20 base move you cover about 16 miles per day on the road, and most of the plains area.

I'm gonna buy some trail rations before we set out. What do you think? Our groups never use rations so I'm not sure how many I should buy....

Dain Harladorn |

Well, actually, you see...problem is that Dain have spent all of his starting money, so he can not really buy anything. Unless there is some "share" of money of the equipment sold (not really very optimistic in there, considering that it is orc loot/equipment).

Rikar Sarakin |

@Misha - aside from 50' of rope, Rikar doesn't have any climbing gear - but a climber's kit costs 80 gp, so I'm not sure we're in a position to buy a bunch of such equipment for everyone.

Misha Keroun |

With Deovain's comment about spunk, I am now picturing him as Lou Grant from Mary Tyler Moore. :)

With Deovain's comment about spunk, I am now picturing him as Lou Grant from Mary Tyler Moore. :)
I wasn't before, but now I am. ;p
It's a funny mental picture, but it's always nice to have a clear image of an NPC.

Given our relative fragility and recent experiences almost starving in dungeons, I vote we take all we can carry.
Josef can carry an additional 200 lbs, assuming we don't mind moving at base speed 20.
That's all the rations, in addition to what he already had for himself (2 wks of food + all his combat & adventuring gear)
For spelunking, I'd recommend more rope, and a climbing kit for each one of us, if we can spare the gp.
Unfortunately, a climbing kit is 80gp and we simply don't have enough gold for that.
Perhaps about 200-300' of rope, a climbing kit or two, and a bunch of pitons? I have a hammer and iron spikes already.

Misha Keroun |

I'd suggest this:
Spelunking Kit
Price 174 gp; Weight 32 lbs.
This kit holds equipment for exploring underground, consisting of a lantern with 4 flasks of oil, a hammer and 8 pitons, 100 feet of silk rope, a grappling hook, and a climber's kit
Which comprises most of what Josef said. The extra rope is a good idea too.
I'd also suggest a miner's pick or two. Maybe a map-makers kit -- we've got the map of the surface but we might want to map the inside of Mount Moru once we get there.
With 500 gold I'd also suggest getting some potions (potions of cure light wounds, etc.) and other cheap magical or alchemical gear (holy water, smoke sticks, acid flasks, soothe syrup, anti toxin). Oh and a healer's kit never hurts if we don't already have one amongst us.
Misha can only carry about 6 more pounds of stuff before she hits medium encumbrance, but she also has her mule whose light load is up to 100 lbs and medium and heavy encumbrance is much higher.

![]() |

So I'd suggest we pick up one spelunker kit, some extra rope & pitons, extra oil, and blow the rest on healing & alchemical supplies. Getting at least 2 lightrods per person would probably be a good idea as well.
Perhaps a canary?

![]() |

Climbing kits grant +2 to climbing skill checks, but each costs 80gp & weighs 5 lbs

Rikar Sarakin |

I haven't done the math on how much all this costs out of our 500 gp, but if we can spring for even one climbing kit it might be helpful. Having our best climber get a bonus to get up somewhere and attach a rope for the rest of the party could be useful. Though a +2 bonus is pretty weak.
Josef's list sounds good. I can go either way on the climbing kit.
I was also wondering about another pack animal - Misha's one mule can't carry all this stuff, can she? We can get another one for 8 gp - and it'll come in handy for all the treasure we're sure to find.
Anyone care to volunteer to decide what specific items to buy and total the cost? Once that's done, and we're all good with the purchases, I'll add any remaining gold to our treasure spreadsheet.

Rikar Sarakin |

@GM Papa - I don't know if you track such things, but today is GM's day - so have a happy one! Thanks for a fun game!

Misha Keroun |

For finalizing the shopping trip, this is what I'd suggest based on the discussion so far:
GET
AROUND
STUPID
PORTRAIT
Spelunking Kit - 174 gp, 32 lbs each, plus I'd suggest adding +5 gp to make the lantern in it waterproof. (That's a lantern, 4 flasks oil, hammer, 8 pitons, 100 ft. silk rope, grappling hook, and climber's kit.)
100 ft. silk rope - 20 gp, 10 lbs
Healer's Kit - 50 gp, 1 lb
Miner's Pick - 3 gp, 10 lbs
2 potions cure light wounds - 100 gp
2 vials antitoxin - 100 gp
Total cost is 447 gp.
Before we round this out, here's other items we looked at:
- A second mule: That's 8 gp for the mule, 2 gp for a harness, 5 gp for pack saddle, plus 5 cp a day for animal feed. If my arithmetic has not failed me, that's 16 gp for it all including 20 days of food. (Misha has a weeks' worth feed for her current mule.)
- Canary - that's 10 gp for a cage and 4 cp for the canary itself
- Piton - 1 sp, 1/2 lb. Personally I feel like 8 is enough, plus the climber's kit technically has pitons in it. But they're cheap so we could certainly get more.
- Extra climber's kit is 80 gp. I'm okay with the 1 from the spelunking kit; let the person with the climber's kit scale and place additional rope and pitons for others to follow up, which makes climbing easier for those who follow.
- Any addtional healing items/potions? 1st level is 50 gp, so we could get one more; alchemical items tend to range largely from 10-50 gp each.
I would NOT suggest more light sources; we've got 3 spellcasters in the party with at will lighting spells, as it is I'd consider the lantern and any other mundane light sources we've got spread amongst us as backup and/or to make fires to fight swarms.
Stuff we have not discussed:
- DO we need tents? I haven't got one, I haven't checked to see who does. It's 100 miles to the mountain itself, so we're going to be outdoors for awhile. 2 large tents (enough to hold the 7 person party we've got plus 1 for a guide or other NPC or just some extra wiggle room) will be 60 gp (30 gp each); that will exceed what we've got to spend from what the temple gave us, but Misha'd be willing to shell out the extra gp needed if it was desired by the party.
- Alchemical weapons? Some extra flasks of acid or alchemist's fire might come in handy.
- Our own transportation. Unfortunately it's too expensive really for us to travel except on foot, but as an FYI, It'd cost 450 for horses for the medium sized folk plus 30 gp for a pony for Dain, and bit, bridle, and riding saddle is 12 gp each, plus of course food costs. And we'd probably have to leave them at the entrance of mt moru. So even though I brought it up, I'd advise against it, but I wanted to put it out there.

Rikar Sarakin |

Misha - this is a great list, thanks for taking the time to do it.
I say we go with it as is, with the addition of a flask each of acid & alchemical fire (total 30 gp),
Do you know where your mule is in terms of encumbrance with all this? I'd say if she's close to heavy, we get a friend for her, leaving us with 3 gold.

Misha Keroun |

With the stuff that Misha put on her only -- she is carrying 105 lbs of stuff (medium load; heavy load starts at 200 lbs). The bulk of this is the 70 pounds of feed for a weeks' worth of food for the mule itself. Which is the catch-22 of having pack animals--you need to feed them, and the heaviest stuff they're going to carry is their own food. Now, you can hope they can graze and that you'll find settlements to keep from having to carry too much food, but I don't know how much that's going to happen.
Add the spelunker's kit and the miner's pick, and that takes you to 140 lbs. I would say the other items (the extra rope, the potions, etc.) should probably be carried by a person.
She's still 60 lbs away from heavy at that point. That enables her to carry up to 59 human rations or 5 mule rations (plus 9 lbs) before hitting heavy.
So we'd probably be alright with just her, but if we end up needing to carry lots of loot or something, an extra mule could come in useful.
Metagamely, we can also hope at some point we run into a handy haversack or bag of holding, but we can't necessarily count on it.
Assuming no delays (because of course everything goes according to plan for adventurers! ;) ), we'll on foot get to the dwarven stronghold in 6 and a half days, going at a steady pace (based on DRB's post above, calculating from a base speed of 20).

Rikar Sarakin |

Sounds like we'll be good with just one mule - with one possible exception:
Goma, Rikar's loyal mutt, apparently needs to eat 5 lbs. of preserved meat per day (which seems like it would kill him pretty fast). So if we're shopping for 20 days, I'll need to spend 1 gp and buy 100 lbs of food for him.
@GM - do I need to buy all this dog food? Or can Goma hunt for himself, at least when we're not inside the mountain?

DM Papa.DRB |

@Rikar - No, Goma can hunt for himself outside the mountain.
@Misha - The mule can forage for food outside the mountain.
@All - I'll put a post out tomorrow morning (Thursday 0900 Eastern US) to move this along.
Trying to give everyone a chance to weigh in on gear, food, where you specifically are going, etc. before leaving Meadowvale in the next morning.
I figure you will get back from the Temple, shop, spend the last night in a soft bed then hit the trail the next morning.

Misha Keroun |

A heavy combat-trained horse costs 300 gp, you want it, it's coming out of your own pocket. ;)

DM Papa.DRB |

@Misha - My search fu really stinks this morning. Where are the stats for the mule? I have the old 3.5 version, but I just can not find the stats for Pathfinder.
Edit: Never mind, nothing to see here except an old, senile and blind DM....

Rikar Sarakin |

Rikar will carry one of the CLW potions, if that's alright. He's among the more likely to be mixing it up in combat, and thus needing the potion, and less likely than most to be flinging vials of stuff at enemies, so he won't need the other vials as much.
I've updated the treasure spreadsheet to include the little bit of money from the high priest that was left over. Misha's comment about how much money needs to come out of Dain's pocket made me think of something. Now might be a good time to do a "disbursement," where everyone adds 39 gp and 7 sp to their character sheet - from the sale of the orc gear and the leftover temple gold. Then I'll record the disbursement on the treasure sheet. I find doing that periodically makes it easier for each player to know how much gold they have.
Just let me know that you're recording the gold on your character sheet, so no one gets robbed, and I'll update the spreadsheet.
