The girls look at you and say Most gracious apologies noble Mistress but our instructions were to lay petals in your path until such time as the flowers were emptied from our baskets. They bow themselves low to the ground and stay that way until you tell them different.
Dhaavan
W/Variel
Clearly Flynn makes a good point and your affianced is showered with gifts by someone that was able to beat us here, who can send messages ahead via magic, and may have been able to scry for out location. Regardless, we're either dealing with someone profoundly skilled, considering Rain's mastery of the sea, or someone with not-insignificant majiks at their disposal. Either way not someone to make an enemy. he says, putting a hand on his Captain's shoulder. We'll get this done quick, of course. Gots things to do and too many unknowns, but you know you can trust rain. Woman's not easily swayed and any flirtations will be met with a courteous denial at best for her suitor. he adds with a smile.
As rain reads her note, Dhaavan glances at Jack who looks quite perturbed for a little bird and twiters at the bird when it lands, appearing to scold the creature. It cirps what has to be a few explatives at the sorcerer before winging on. I'll leave you two to it, strolling away as rain approaches to speak to Variel.
He utters a sharp lilting whistle just before Rain starts speaking to Variel, and Jack flits out between the two elves. He flies straight into Dhaavan's hand as he closes it into a fist. With a wave he apologetically gives them a sheepish grin, showing the thrush tattoo on his palm, indicating that they do have their privacy.
Just a little RP about how Jack is basically everywhere all the time. He's a tiny thrush on a dark ship and he acts as Dhaavan's ears with the crew. Figure it bears mentioning and deserves to be played out a bit
Dhaavan
When the girls are finished laying pedals from their baskets, Daavan will crouch down to their level and pull out another two coins, If I may Inquire of you two fair maids, you were told tp lay out these petals for our dear Lady Rain, adding as an aside for their benefit and beautiful girls like you with such angelic voices were a perfect choice by way of shameless flattery, but how was this request made? Who told you and where can we find whomever sent you with the missive? I'd be so grateful if you would do me the kindness of telling me... he inquires, cocking his head and giving them a hint of a smile.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (11) + 20 = 31
hoping the messengers appreciate being lavished with such attention =]
Rain Taneththir
Before Rain goes to Variel...
"Please rise, young mistresses. You do not have to bow so before me."
Never had she received such a show of tribute before and she was not entirely comfortable with it, if truth be told. Her cheeks were still flushed by the singular attention.
"Please take the coin each and the remaining petals and enjoy them. You have done a fine job this evening and I am most pleased by the courtesy. However, I am satisfied and wish for you to return to your homes and consider the duty concluded. I shall make it right with the one who instructed you thusly. You have my gratitude. Good evening, young mistresses."

Apologies again Mistress but we were told that we would not be paid unless the petals were strewn upon the ground that you were to walk upon as the angelic being you are. If we do not do as we are bid we will not receive the 100 pieces of gold that we were offered to do these tasks.
Looking over at Dhaavan, the girls say The message came from our Mistress at the House of Stolen Kisses. Mistress Genevive watches over us orphans and provides work for us.
They then look at you both expectantly, waiting for your reply.
Rain Taneththir
Rain stared at Dhaavan upon realising he had attempted to gain information from the girls with his varied charms as soon as she had moved to speak with Variel.
Seeing that the girls would not be deterred from their ordered task, Rain stood there and simply instructed, "You may continue to lay the petals at my feet for I would not see you go unpaid. All I ask is that you give me some privacy at this moment (and not follow me) so I may have a word with my companion, there. Yes? Once I am done, you may continue until the duty is complete."
DM Immortal
Of course Mistress. We shall await you here. The girls are pretty little things that can't be older than 9 or 10 and are dressed in matching silver and gold dresses.
Rain Taneththir
"Thank you." Rain responded to the pretty, young girls.
As she started to move toward Variel, she heard Adular's give an alternative and she simply smiled, "A reasonable idea, Adular. However, the girls need to lay each petal at my feet or else they will not be paid. I cannot be the reason for the forfeiture of earnings." She inclined her head to the priest and seeing that the girls were being true to their word and not following, Rain went straight to Variel.
Okay, so we're now in current time convo -- between Rain and Variel. lol
Var, please refer to the spoiler with the private conversation at Post #10300. Thanks!

Hearing the exchange between Rain and the girls VAriel notes the name Mistress Genevive and commits that name to memory. Variel is half tempted to invoke the power of his cutlass to wipe the petals away but holds himself in check. This was not the fault of the girls nor Rain's and he would not act out like a petulent child. Instead now was the time to consider options against whomever this person was.
Variel was not at all happy either that it was such a public display and all the rest of his officers were trying to give their input as well. Yes the person behind this was well connected, yes they were likely to be powerful, yes they have riches in order to pay girls 100gp to scatter rose petals, yes he trusted Rain, yes he understood this person could be a deadly enemy but Variel didn't care about that. He wanted whomever was responsible for this and wanted it to stop.
As Rain approaches it is quite evident that Variel's anger is up but controlled for the moment. It is not directed at Rain at all and neither the 2 girls. That just makes the anger that much more difficult as there is no where to direct his anger for the time being. Thus it is with difficulty that when Rain takes him aside and divulges the name that Variel doesn't blow up and order the ship turned around immediately to find Pierce.
Once done with Rain and Variel's conversation...
Looking around he spies 1 of the crew nearby. Walking over to her he opens his purse and takes out a handful of coins. Pushing them into her hand he orders her, Find out everything you can about Pierce Jerrell. I know he can cast spells. I want to know what he prefers, how powerful he is, who his connections are, his relation to Tessa Fairwind, what his favored weapon of choice is, what ships are under his command, everything you can about him!
DM Immortal
Ok I'm going to move things along.
After you sort out the issues with the mischievous Captain Jerrell's uninvited advances, you make your way into town to do what you came here for. A quick question to the girls let's you know that the castle looking building on the cliff above is the House of Stolen Kisses, the High Temple to Calistria in the Shackles as well as the most beautiful and, according to rumor, best brothel in the Inner Sea region. Catering to all delights and appetites, the House of Stolen Kisses is legendary amoung the pirates of the Shackles. Frequented by the highest pirate lord down to the lowliest street peasant, so long as payment of some sort is arranged the temple finds a way to accommodate you.
The girls escort you all the way to the top, throwing petals nearly the entire way and only running out about 100 meters from the entrance. The building looks to be made of the same stone as the cliff but veins of pyrite twists within it's surface sending back glinting hints of gold. The doors are made of some silvery metal and depict all manner of creatures in positions of...intimate embrace. The door opens at your approach and makes a loud sigh reminiscent of the sound a lover makes when touched.
Inside the doors a grand hallway opens with vaulted ceilings with white columns gilded with gold leaf. A very scantily clad, and beautiful, priestess of Calistria approaches and says Welcome to the House of Stolen Kisses. Praise be to the Lady of Unquenchable Fire. What pleasures can we afford you this evening. Perhaps a sensual massage to loosen tired and sore muscles, she says moving her hand over Variel's bicep, ...or perhaps a few more exotic delights... she says with smoky eyes lingering on Seijiro. Looking at Rain she says We cater to women as well. Especially those of fine beauty such as yours. Looking at the group again she says Now how may we service you?
Dhaavan
Dhaavan tests out his new "smoulder" <== (not this one tho) saying, We're here for a particular service to be provided by your high priestess, Dindreann. although if you could introduce me to the Mistress Genevive, I would be... most appreciative.
Seijiro
a little back tracking cause I wasn't home when all the above was going on...
"Variel-sama, a word if I may... I'm no expert in such things as affairs of the heart, but it seems to me if you are enamored of and trothed to a beautiful lady like Rain, you should expect and be proud of the fact that she attracts such attentions... I would think it would be more a matter of amusement than jealousy if you trust her, and I think you really do. Perhaps try to see this with new eyes and let it go... I think Rain will find a way to dampen Captain Jerrell's attentions without swordplay or duels. In the long run, he'd probably make a better ally than enemy. I know you're older and wiser than I am Variel-sama, but I think this time, you're not acting like it." He shrugs and looks a bit chagrined at his own temerity to speak up as he did.. but blinks and looks expectantly at Variel for his response.

Well aren't you just good enough to eat! She says with her eyes fully on you. When she smiles and you catch a glimpse of a forked tongue, you remember the old adage appearances can be deceiving.
I can take you straight to Dindreann as she is just finishing up with a client. As for Genevive, she is currently indisposed and won't be available for at least a few hours.
With that she whisks you up a set of stairs and down another hallway. As you walk the various sounds of passion and pleasure envelop you all, with the occasional shriek of pain thrown in. Taking you to a set of double doors that a man in the attire of a wealthy businessman or merchant, attire in some disarray, is exiting. Your escort takes you right in without stopping and you see the High Priestess of Calistria laying on a pile of silken pillows wearing a silk robe of yellow and black that covers her arms and shoulders and little else as it is currently unlaced completely in the front.
Dindreann arises with languid slowness and grace, completely unashamed of her state of undress and says Ah what have you brought me Phyxias? What an intriguing mix of people. Have some tea and refreshments brought for us would you please Phyxias? To you all she says Be welcome to the House of Stolen Kisses. I am Dindreann, High Priestess of Calistria and leader of this congregation. How may I service you? She smiles and indicates the various pillows on the floor to lounge upon. She waits until you are all seated before lowering herself as well. If anyone remains standing she will remain standing for a few moments looking at that person and if they still do not sit she will nod as if making a mental note before seating herself.
DM Immortal
Slight retcon for Variel. The crewmember, which turned out to be Shivikah, nods seriously at you and heads off into town, veering towards the dockside bars and taverns.
Seijiro
Seijiro sits when bidden, not knowing the courtesies here, but figuring it's best to comply with such a request.
Horatio Flynn
Horatio’s expression is frozen on his face at the display.
He silently damns everything he can think of that his efforts to meet with the captain before leaving town were not allowed to unfold as he wished them to before they had left Port Peril.
Then he glances around, specifically at the girls who are showering the sidewalk with petals and studies them.
His expression frozen, he turns to Variel –
”Apologies for the use of this tongue; but I’d wager too many here may know the Elven speech with greater ease.”
”You are my friend and a man of action; I respect that about you. But be cautious; these trollops are agents of a whorehouse and believe me when I say that whores learn many secrets; men besotted with lust and drink often have loose tongues.”
”Meanwhile, the Madam of perceptive whores often earns much money selling these details to others. I say then; be cautious! It is possible that these women who shall continue to follow Rain, and anyone else with Rain, including her captain... Well, it is possible that these two are even now listening to all that is said and marking our very reactions and responses to sell to their mistress later.”
”In any case, it is also possible that this entire affair is a ruse. Could it be that someone else may have arranged this display to drive a wedge between us and a possible alliance between us and this Captain Jerrel?” he says, recalling clearly the concerns that Harrigan’s Cabin Girl could be used as a means to auger their position.
”On the other hand, perhaps it was Jerrell who is responsible and is sincerely trying to woo your woman. If this angers you then we should find him and when we do, if you would prefer it, he can die in a duel, or we can give him the drugs that the Cabin Girl had and render him unconscious so that you can educate him on the folly of interfering with your business properly.”
”As you are my friend, and he has wronged you, I can only say that in such an education I can help you very much; indeed, there are many secrets about pain you learn as a doctor,” he adds with a small smile, his eyes glittering strangely.
”Yet my point is simply that I ask that you believe that even now we are being watched and that you don’t let those who are manipulating you for their own reason succeed with their efforts. Instead, I entreat you: beat them at their own game and do not let them know your true heart, instead, deceive them so that they miscalculate your strength when you truly decide to strike at them.”
When Horatio suddenly realizes that the entire party is now splitting up and all going about private business his smile remains but he grinds his teeth tightly as if suppressing his private feelings.
He turns to Variel –
”I’ll back you in a fight, Nightstorm; you know that about me, but just consider what I said,” he says, then tips his forelock.
He turns to the few remaining officers loitering near the pier, then glances at the docks of the ship and calls out to Sandara.
”Oye; Sandara?” he says, calling to her.
”If you don’t mind, do you think you could set a deck watch of two lads and make sure none of the mates go gallivanting through the town tonight? We’ll figure out things like shore leave later, but that will have to wait,” he says with a relative cheerful voice.
Horatio turns back to Variel.
”We’re in arguably the second most powerful port town in The Shackles; which means that they have plenty of shipping coming through at all hours.”
”Right now I’m going to do some poking around; for now I’ll start with the Harbor Master, or whatever they call the guy in charge of the port authorities. Depending on what he says I'll figure out where to go next.”
”I’ll be back when you see me, no worries,” he says with a nod to Variel, then motions to Amen-set and heads off to what looks like the chief building at the docks to begin his search for information.
DM Immortal
Sandara looks askance at Flynn and Variel and says You want the crew to wait again?! It's looking more and more that you don't trust the crew to look after themselves. We're not little children that require a nursemaid and bedtimes. That said are you sure that is how you want to play this particular hand?
Rain Taneththir
Retcon to finish scene with Variel, Jiro and Flynn...
Rain stood and listened to Variel give into his ire over Pierce's playful/bold overtures. Her eyes had taken on a deeper shade of turquoise as she witnessed Variel take no care to keep his voice moderate. Hadn't Pierce's antics garnered enough attention already...? Rain took a deep breath .. she had hoped Variel would have been more discreet for her sake, but he had not thought to be, even though she had kept her own voice low for the matter only concerned the two of them.
She listened as Jiro stepped forward and attempted to soothe Variel's fiery discontent -- convincing him to more peaceful resolution. Rain nodded her head in thanks to Jiro, although Rain's cheeks were the red of the sky during a setting sun. My private affairs are made known ... in such a way.
Flynn had spoken in the guttural tongue of those from the Plane of Water; fortunately both she and Variel could understand such speech, but unfortunately Flynn seemed too was eager for the drawing of blood or swimming in suspicion. Horatio Flynn had a greater suspicious nature than she did!
In quiet tones, but in a voice which brook no argument, Rain responded to Variel and Flynn, "No one shall duel. I shall speak with Pierce Jerrell and I shall put an end to this mischief." She did not require a male to provide remedy. She was quite capable of managing her affairs as Jiro had astutely noted.
To her betrothed, once she noted his posture had relaxed a touch, she smiled (a strange, unreadable smile) and added softly, "We shall accept this with grace and good humour. Soon enough, the petals will have expired and the girls returned to their home. You have my heart and my promise. Trust in both. Let this go."

Previously at the ship...
Variel continues to feel the ire that has built up within him as he gets words of wisdom from Jiro. While Jiro tries to make the best of the situation and make Variel see reason Variel is currently having none of it. I trust Rain explicitly and do not doubt her at all. In fact should she even prefer this Pierce fellow I would lament my loss and kick myself for having lost her. the fact that she is seen as a source of beauty and passion does not bother me. I do cherish the notion that of all of the people in the world it is I who Rain chose. If it was flattery and an acknowledgement that she is the fairest of all elven women I would not hold any animosity towards him. What perturbs me is that this captain knows better and still is making advances upon her. He wants her to be his. That is not acceptable to me because he will not stop. He knows that we are engaged yet he still persists. He will not stop until Rain or myself put him in his place. As Variel talks he half draws his cutlass before he slams it back in its sheath.
Horatio speaking to him in Aquan is peculiar but Variel tries to listen. He then responds in kind, What you say may be true but I don't care if people are watching and listening. Let them tell Pierce or whomever else is out there that I will not sit aside while advances are made upon my future wife. Perhaps you don't understand the situation I am in. Hopefully one day you can experience what this is like. Thank you for the offer of being my second but if it comes to that I will not have anyone else speak for or defend my and Rain's honor but me.
Variel saw the look in Rain's eye as he aired out his threats and such against Pierce. He knew that while he would duel Pierce to the death if need be this is not what Rain wanted. Her words only confirmed the look. Still angry and unhappy at the situation Variel still was rational enough to listen to Rain's calming voice. Yes, dear, I understand very well that you are the best to handle this matter. You can do so in such a way that prevents my blood from boiling at the sight of him. Grant me this though, when you meet with him next to inform him of the ill advised advances, if he does not cease in his actions then you give me permission to seek him out and end this.
As for the girls I will show them no malice as truly I do not fault them for this. They are but pawns in Pierce's play for your hand.
To Horatio and Sandara, While I do not feel like any relaxation tonight I do not see any need to keep the men from enjoying port. Let them have the usual shifts off while still keeping some ont he ship as guard. Those who were on watch first last time get first leave this time. I understand your concern Horatio but this is a private matter that has me concerned and not a threat to all of us of the ship.
Rain Taneththir
Welcome to the House of Stolen Kisses.
At the Calistran acolyte's hand around Variel's arm, Rain's eyes once more took on a deeper shade of turquoise. Aye, they were trained in the erotic arts and it was not personal ... such a touch, just part of their subservience and plying their trade... so Rain did not yank the woman's arm off for dare touching her mate.
"Good evening, Priestess. We are grateful for your warm reception." Rain smiled, an engaging smile meant to please ... Light and shade, Rain. Play the game.
As they were shown to Dindreann, the High Priestess of Calistria, Rain caught the earlier prietess' name, Phyxias, and noted it to memory.
Rain inclined her head to the temple leader. She deliberately kept her voice soft, husky, "Good evening, Priestess Dindreann. My name is Rain. We have been directed to the Temple by a fellow Free Captain of the Shackles and have come, humbly, seeking information." Rain looked to Variel as Captain to begin such talk. She did not want to disclose Tessa Fairwind's name so soon after introduction. Rain took a seat on one of the pro-offered cushions on the floor and tried to settle herself gracefully -- long legs and large wings did not make it easy.
Seijiro
Seijiro shrugs at Variel's response to his words, a little disheartened that he had such little effect on his Captain. Still, he says nothing more, as Rain stepped in and reiterated basically what he'd said, and he hoped he accepted it better from her.
He does scowl at Flynn's order to delay any shore leave... He turns to Dhaavan and wonders if he plans on changing that...
As much to himself as Dhaavan he says, "We're in a great port, relatively safe, this is a good time for a little more leniency with the crew and shore leave, don't you think? Ordering them to stay on the ship here seems harsh and unnecessary."
When Sandara speaks out he nods and says "She's got a good point... and I wholeheartedly agree with her... Sandara's not only wise, but she's got a good grasp of what the crew are feeling.... if we keep them unhappy and confined, they will leave and not return. Let's lighten up a little... "
Adular
Adular pretends not to hear what's said by Variel, but he sure doesn't blame the man for being riled in such a situation.
Adular smiles at this, wondering how one asks if one's mother is on the premises, "Respect to the Savored Sting. I'm with them," he inclines to the rest of the group.
Sandara looks askance at Flynn and Variel and says You want the crew to wait again?! It's looking more and more that you don't trust the crew to look after themselves. We're not little children that require a nursemaid and bedtimes. That said are you sure that is how you want to play this particular hand?
Adular finds himself agreeing with Sandara, "I understand we're on the cautious side, but she's right that we're playing this same hand a lot of late. Last time I bought em cards and dice, that's not going to appease them a second time as easy."
Variel Nightstorm
|
At the temple...
Variel stands rigidly as the priestess rubs his biceps. He was in no mood for such banter at the moment. He told Rain that he would abide by her wishes yet that did not keep him from running through scenarios in his head where Pierce met his demise in unfortunate ways. Letting primarily Dhaavan lead the way, Variel followed behind with Rain stoically ignoring the sights and sounds around him. This was business now and there would be no time for extracurricular activities.
At the arrival of Dindreann and the offer to sit Variel compromises by leaning against a wall near Rain instead of sitting down on the cushions. Captain Nightstorm at your service. I do apologize ma'am but I am not inclined to sit at the moment. There is a matter of some concern of mine that is not allowing me the luxury of relaxation at the moment. Consider it too much restless energy that needs to be let out, restless mind it if were. I mean no disrespect. As soon as the mind has settled and the body with it I will gladly accept the invitation to sit.
Reaching into a belt pouch Variel withdraws the note given to them from Tessa and hands it to Dindreann. I believe this was intended for you from the one who sent us.
diplomacy 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
DM Immortal
Dindreann inclines her head and says The only matter that concerns men that causes them this sort of consternation is of matters of the heart. I take no offense Captain. You know that you are in the proper place to release...restless energy. With that she winks at you before saying, Now what sort of information are you seeking? Know that all knowledge comes with a price.
When you hand her the letter she breaks the seal and reads through it. She breaks loose into a tinkling laugh and says Ah my dear Tessa. She requests that I help you in any way I can. What sort of help do you require? She is not in the habit of putting important information into notes that can be intercepted.
Rain Taneththir
Rain discreetly clenched her hands into fists by her side at Dindreann's words of Variel finding release at the temple. She kept her lips clamped shut lest the frustrations of earlier in the evening took control and spilled over in the meeting.
Variel Nightstorm

Variel clears his throat at her words before shaking his head no. While you may be right in your assessment of the situation the solution that you present would only complicate matters greatly. I am sure that you and yours here though are unrivaled in your endeavors. Yet for all of that unless under magical compulsion I would still resist the charms offered her.
As for why we are here. Lady Tessa has asked us to uncover a plot against the Shackles, namely a Chelaxian invasion that you may have privy to some knowledge of.

Just remembered this...slight retcon
As Horatio makes mention to leave and do his own reconnaissance Variel has a small request for him. Should you find a merchant selling gloves. Let me know or purchase 50 pair for me. I will reimburse you accordingly. If you do not find one or it is too much trouble don't worry either. Just if you happen to come across one on your walkabout.

Dindreann looks at you for a moment and says We do have some information on spies of Cheliax within the Shackles. However said secrets confided to the sacred chosen of Calistria cannot be given for free. Now if a service was performed for the temple, payment in the form of knowledge would be acceptable and not incur Calistria's wrath upon us for divulging said secrets. It so happens that a ship owned by the House of Stolen Kisses known as the Lady's Sting has gone missing. Upon that ship was a relic of some importance to the faith of Calistria. Divinations have revealed that the ship was attacked by a group of pirates who deliberately lure ships into danger so that they can salvage the cargoes of the resulting wrecked ships. Piracy is a fact of life in the Shackles, of course, but the Lady’s Sting was carrying a relic sacred to our faith—a gold-plated wasp statue known as the Golden Vespal. We seek revenge on these wreckers who would dare attack one the faith’s holy vessels, as well as the return of the Golden Vespal, but we have so far been unable to locate the wreckers that attacked the Lady’s Sting. Find us these wreckers and bring us their heads and retrieve the Golden Vespal and you will have the information you seek.
Horatio Flynn
Slight ret-con, it seems
"No one shall duel. I shall speak with Pierce Jerrell and I shall put an end to this mischief."
Horatio glances at Rain with surprise.
"Begging your pardon, Pilot-Major; I wasn't really planning on dueling this guy myself. The thing is; I suggested it because it seemed to really upset Nighstorm. I don't agree with the plan, but if someone has really upset him, then I'm going to do what I can to try to stop that person. That's all I was trying to do; stop someone who had hurt my friend," he says with a polite nod.
Variel; I'm not entirely sure if you're responding in kind in Aquan or not, but for now I'm assuming you are...
Horatio keeps his expression frozen as he glances at Variel.
"First of all, like I said - it might not be Pierce. You're at better at magic than I am; but I'd spend more energy on figuring out who's formally scrying on our ship before getting upset at this Pierce guy. He may not be responsible in the first place."
"Second of all; don't mistake me, I'm not interested in being a formal second in a duel. Personally I don't think you should play that card anyhow; if anything you ought to just put a bullet between his eyes and be done with it without making your intentions public. Hell, if you duel with the guy and lose, you die. If you win, you lose anyhow, because it's a sure bet that his mates won't be as forgiving. We aren't dealing with Aldori Swordlords here, we're dealing with cutthroats and corsairs, so why advertise your plans? If you want him dead then sure, I'll help you kill him. And if you want him brought back alive quickly so you can deal with him slowly; well, like I said, I can help you with that, too."
"You and I had our differences in the past, but you've been pretty square with me the whole time. That being the case, I don't forget my friends and I'm telling you that I'll back you however you want to play it; even if you want to duel the basterd. I just think that dueling is not a good plan."
"Anyhow, all that we just talked on is an aside. Right now you need to keep yourself cool. You're the Captain-General of a ship and you have nearly two score men under you that are counting on you to keep them and the ship safe. Loosing your cool in front of them, and probable spies; I don't think that's a good idea... Look, I'm not trying to upset you; I'm saying this to you as a friend; try not to give your enemy any advantage at all, including spies; especially if you have people under you that need looking after," he says gently.
Sandara looks askance at Flynn and Variel and says You want the crew to wait again?! It's looking more and more that you don't trust the crew to look after themselves. We're not little children that require a nursemaid and bedtimes. That said are you sure that is how you want to play this particular hand?
Horatio turns to Sandara with shock and surprise writ on his face.
"Why Sandara, whatever do you mean?" he asks her, genuinely surprised.
"I assumed that after spending three days of unadulterated shore leave in the capital of The Shackles - followed by less than forty-eight hours of sailing, with the possible exception of dealing with some monstrous creatures in the deep which may have possibly shook them up something fierce, not to mention the pace that they were pushed to make it to Quent with all speed... I'm sorry, I merely assumed that after sailing all day today, or least more than eight hours straight, that they'd likely be far too exhausted to go carousing in an unknown town and would rather sleep on the ship."
"However, I apologize for that suggestion and accept your wisdom on this matter," he says with a contrite voice.
He turns to Amen-set and speaks briskly to her in a quiet voice.
"Go below and tell the Halfling lads and Piper to keep a watch on the cabin that the family is resting in for the night and that I'll be back soon. Apologize to the mother and the elderly Halflings for my absence; don't let the family know that the ship will be largely unguarded during the night, but let the three Halflings know who are guarding the door to keep their eyes open. Finally, tell them all that we will likely be heading to Bag Island in a day or so."
"If you don't mind, try telling them in a nice way; I don't want that family upset since they're under my personal care."
As Amen-set rushes down below, he turns back to Sandara.
"Anyhow, thanks for the information about the disposition of our crew. I honestly wouldn't have figured that they'd be so upset about it, but I appreciate you giving me the heads up and letting me know how they feel," he says with a tip of his forelock to her.
He turns and begins to head down the gangplank with Amen-set at his heels. As he leaves, Variel calls out to him.
Should you find a merchant selling gloves. Let me know or purchase 50 pair for me. I will reimburse you accordingly. If you do not find one or it is too much trouble don't worry either. Just if you happen to come across one on your walkabout.
He pauses and turns to Variel, chuckling a bit and giving him a nod.
"Sure enough; you got an idea on what you'd be interested in for material?" he asks, then considers things for a moment and his eyes light up.
"Say, instead of all of those gloves, what if I was able to rustle up some dragonskin so you could craft a pair of gloves with them?" he says with an excited voice.
"If those powers are born of dragonkind I'd wager that actual dragonskin might be just what it takes to keep the energy from burning through them accidental like. I mean, if you let a full burst go that'd be different... Anyhow, I'll pick you up a square yard of dragonscale or dragonhide, or whatever you call it; then you might get Dhaavan to craft you some gloves with them and then pull them off in a pinch if you want to use the burst," he says, curious to know what Variel might think of this plan.
After he gets the answer, he'll head out.

With Horatio...
Variel had cooled a bit more as Rain placed her hand on his. Nodding his understanding that he needed to relax and maintain a certain decorum Variel let the situation drop. Thanks for the words Horatio.
As Horatio was leaving for his own tasks Variel nodded no, At this time some basic supple leather gloves will do nicely. something that will still allow me to grip my cutlass. Perhaps once I know more I will see about other materials for a more permanent solution. Then again if you do find some it might be good to have it available just in case.

Variel gives Dindreann a smile. That seems like a tall order for some information. 3 tasks set before us as I see it. Find the location of thee Wreckers, return the Golden Vespal and bring the heads of those involved. If we accomplish all of this then I would like another piece of information as well. Namely a contact on Bag Island whom we can talk to about other details that Tessa has tasked us with.
DM Immortal
Dindreann smiles languidly and says That, my little lotus blossom, you can have for free. Seek the Temple of the Hidden Name and ask for a halfling that goes by the name of Slip. He can direct you to any further information you seek. Just to warn you though, he requires payment as well. So do we have a deal? You find the ship and the wreckers and I will give you the name of a man who knows of a spy in the Shackles.

A mission within a mission? They would be spreading themselves too thin and significantly increasing the danger. But there seemed no other course to gaining the information they required from the cunning Dindreann. The sorceror was too quiet -- and had not attempted to ply his abundant...charms on the woman. But would one of Calistra's favoured truly succumb to the likes of Dhaavan? And then there was Slip at the Temple of the Hidden Name who would ask them to perform something else in return for his information. How much was too much for one crew to take on...
Rain looked to Variel, her gaze lingering on his, waiting to see what he would say to the Head Calistran Priestess.

On the ship
'S a good point tho. Hopefully the elven shennanigans is all just that, but just in case... crew off the ship goes out in twos and threes, and dont' leave off without their mates. Dhaavan says in reply then thinking for a minute, At least keep tabs and check in so as nobody gets too drunk and women and wine and misses the ship leaving... or men? Oye, Adular, does Calistria have Priests too? Dhaavan shouts.
more for the crew now
Anyway, we move in force, right? We're not lone freebooters hitchin a ride, hoppin ship to ship. We've got something bigger than that here on the Lady. We're the Pirates of Tidewater, liberators of the treasure of Mancatcher cove, we unbelievable monsters explode in green fire in the skys as we sail by! he says raaising his hands in the air, cause that whole beastie thing was way too nuts...
SO make our presence knows and comport yourselves with utmost dignity, poise, and decorum. Drink, eat, and celebrate cause you've earned it. Stick to your mates so nobody misses out. Now roll out to rouse some rabble and revel, my revers!
except first watch, you go next, obviously
How long do we plan on being here? at least a few hours. we want to sell off any plunder?
-posting in the temple now
Rain Taneththir
Dhaav, it's evening time, so maybe we can set sail come dawn instead? I'm not sure how long the others want to remain in Quent ... And Rain pushed the ship hard to get them to Quent by dusk. I'm good with whatever is decided.

"Course she does! We priestly lads are handy to have. Lady clerics may out number the fellows in Calistria's religion, but the fellows make a good showing. Especially in the morning I'm told but ain't that true for many a man of any faith?" Adular calls out back.

arriving in the temple and meeting the priestess
Having noticed Variel's reaction to the flirtations of the priestesses, Dhaavna considers that he should do a better job of running interference for the Cap'n.
He does spare Phyxias a long and appraising look, curious as to what she really is, leaning in and taking her hand for a kiss, And I'm sure you are rather delectable yourself
Upon being offered a seat, Dhaavan stands a moment giving the others a chance to sit, then receiving a look from he gives a slight bow and finds himself the most luxuriously comfortable seat he can before melting into it, lounging languidly with a smile, listening comfortably, throwing the elves a smile at Variel's rather endearing testaments of fidelity. He glandes at the High Priestess as if to say Aren't they just too precious and perfect?
Would this Slip fellow have any information about these ship-wreckers of which you speak? Or is there anything more you can give us about their methods or location, as it would better allow us to retrieve your relic with greater expedience. Or is there a price you would ask of us for your divination and information on your target... and out prey? his tone casual, and without implication, but a subtle shift in his expression and the flash of a predatory look in his eyes makes one wonder if there's anything he'd imply???

Dindreann nods at Dhaavan and says We have learned that there is a crew of wreckers operating out of somewhere near the Rampore Isles as there have been several ships that have gone missing out there, the Lady's Sting included. As for their method, I am not sure but I do know from divinations with her most high Calistria, that the leader of this band of Wreckers is a woman named Vakarla. Other than that I cannot tell you for I have been unable to send anyone to the Rampore Isles to investigate until you and yours came along.
Seijiro
"So it seems we have not only a location but a name too... for their leader anyway, though we have no proof that the leader is personally responsible for the taking of the Lady's Sting or the relic... though it seems likely such an item would make its way to her possession. Surely, Rain-san, your charts will show these Rampore Isles and we can make our way there, find what we need to know, and get what we came for... Though I'm not keen on the idea of taking heads myself, finding those who took the relic and recovering it are probably things we can do readily." Seijiro looks to the others, knowing that some of them would have no trouble taking heads so his own reticence would be no impediment to their task.
know local: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
don't know if that's enough , but on the offchance it is:
"Also, since it was mentioned that we need to go to Bag Island for some reason, that place lies between Quent and the Rampore Isles, so we can kill two birds with one stone."
Rain Taneththir
Rain simply gave a nod as to the charts and pinpointing the Rampore Isles as she listened to Jiro.
I believe we get a bonus to our skill checks from the charts in our possession, Immortal?
"I am in agreement with Jiro on accepting the mission to find the absconder/s and attempt to recover the relic and return it to you. The taking of heads is not to my liking. Is the latter of great importance in return for your information? Upon our return, we could give you the names of the thieves and you can mete out what punishment you see fit once the relic is back in your hands."
DM Immortal
Yep you get a bonus when using the charts. As for the knowledge local thats perfectly fine jiro, you know where Rampone is.
DM Immortal
So long as I have proof that they are dead...I care not what form the proof takes, Dindreann replies.

As you are discussing the particulars of the mission a knock sounds at the door. Dindreann rings a small bell at her side and the doors open smoothly. In steps a small girl holding a black box wrapped with a pink ribbon. She walks over to Rain without saying a word and hands her the box before backing her way out of the room. She answers no questions and closes the door behind her.
Dindreann looks on with an amused smile and says It appears you have an admirer Rain. In the Shackles a black box with a pink ribbon is a symbol of eternal love.
Rain when you open the box inside, nestled in velvet is a stunning pair of diamond and turquoise earrings in the shape of a leaping dolphin. Along with that is a note with two stylized letters on it and nothing else, P and J.
DM Immortal
In the same moment, Dindreann says, Now that you have accepted the deal. Perhaps we can celebrate a bit. You may partake of any of the delights within the House of Stolen Kisses for two hours and I will cover the costs to my priests and priestesses. What say you to that generous offer?
She then rings a bell and a series of followers of Calistria file into the room. There are men and women of many varieties and races. There are even two Kitsune, a young man of lithe and strong build and a stunningly formed female who is eyeing Seijiro with a look of hunger and smoky lust.
Rain Taneththir
Rain held the small, ribboned box in her hand and listened to Dindreann's words as to the meaning of the box display. Eternal love?! Rain cast a swift glance at Variel upon receipt of this latest gift.
She opened the box carefully, as if in slow motion.
The earrings were exquisite, and, the turquoise so prettily matched her eyes. This was a thoughtful gift. However, the initials 'PJ' on the note could only mean they were from Pierce Jerrell and Variel had already threatened violence on his person earlier in the evening.
There was nothing she could do to hide the jewellery in the present company, especially since it was delivered before all.
"Aye, it seems someone is rather persistent", trying to make light of the current situation. There was a tight smile on Rain's face as she waited on Variel's reaction. She closed the box and held it between her hands.
Adular
"A bit of revenge on your behalf," Adular nods, "Would you like us to leave some symbol or sign of your goddess after we do the deed?"

One strawberry haired ulfen woman, damn tall, catches his eye, another, a half elf of Vurundi descent, is equally tempting.
Both lovely, but it might hurt Sandara something fierce and I'd never forgive meself.
"Lovely ladies here, but there's a fire haired lass in my life that might take terrible revenge indeed if I were to enjoy the arms of another. Sure you understand."
Dhaavan
Awful convenient that we'll pass right by the Vakarla. Question is whether we hit them then head to Bag-Island, or visit Slip then liberate the Vespal on the way back here? I don't want to stink up the hold with grizzley trophies. He does consider acts of revenge that he could inflict on behalf of the priestesshood.
Dhaavan's eyes light up at the lady's offer of covered costs and the wheels immediately start turning in his head as to how to best take advantage of this without going overboard.
"Oh my, those are so pretty tho... I should get my wife some earrings while we're traveling around!" Then looks at the box, and considers it for a moment, rather unsure what to make of the gesture...almost dismissive.
As for the offer of the delightfully generous priestess In the past couple weeks, I've died, and come pack as a damned celestial spawn, and when i finally start getting comfortable in my own skin it changes again... I mean look at my shoulders, I'll have to get my new shirt tailored to fit right again... he complains. That that i mind this visage, but I would really appreciate a massage to work out some of the kinks, so if you could spare the services of one of the clergy most skilled in that specific art form, I'd appreciate it greatly.
That and some tea and fruit and other such appetizers would be delectable.
To whomever he is pointed he does note that this is a Thoroughly chaste endeavor. As we're in port and that would be a violation of the contract of my marriage. Hence my request for one of your particular talents. He sinks some serious weight into the violation of a contract, as though to him it is a sort of heinous crime.

Variel agrees with the terms as Dindreann laid out. I believe that we will be able to offer sufficient proof of the death of those responsible for the sacrilege to your goddess. While it might not be their heads that we take with us there are other avenues that we could take. say for instance the capture of those responsible and delivered to you personally. Would that fulfill the agreement. then you could question them yourself for further knowledge and secrets that you might desire. If we are able to keep them alive and brought to you I will have another question for you upon our return. this could be quite a lucrative deal for both of us with the exchange of knowledge that we each seek. The question I have is of a more personal nature though and will be for you and Rain alone.
Variel is of course thinking of asking Dindreann what she knows about Shanxia. even if this requires further services then he would be willing to take on that onus to get some real answers. Leaving the question unasked and lingering about personal matters hopefully keeps Dindreann intrigued enough till they come back.
At this time the first bell is rung and the package is delivered to Rain. Not knowing Shackles lore and customs as well as some he was surprised when Dindreann announces what such a package meant. Then when Rain opened the box to reveal the items inside Variel face when red then white and he shook with anger. He did not dare say anything after the previous incident and Rain telling him that she would take care of matters. Still it bothered him something fierce. Lips pressed tightly together and the knuckles gripping the cutlass white Variel does not say anything at all. He just stands fuming trying to control himself.
will save to resist another verbal tirade DC 201d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
With great effort he finally swallows and takes many deep breaths through his nose before he can stop seeing red. Finally he is able to look at the box again as he comments through still slightly clenched teeth. Thank you Dindreann for the offer but I again will decline your very generous offer of the specialties of the house. I will accept some food and drink as the hour is late and I find myself thirsty. A red wine if you please. Yes red wine to match Pierce's shirt if I get a chance to confront himself if Rain's instructions to him do not end this. Perhaps I can lure him to wherever these Wreckers are and make it seem like he is involved somehow.
I know you said you would handle this and I will let you try first. However I am torn. Part of me wants to let you play him like a fool and take him for all he is worth before leaving him. Part of me wants him to understand and stop after you talk to him but the greater part of me still wants to run him through, have Adular heal him and run him through again.
Rain Taneththir
Rain stared at Variel's face and she marvelled at his self-control in the room before Dindreann.
You may partake of any of the delights within the House of Stolen Kisses for two hours and I will cover the costs to my priests and priestesses. What say you to that generous offer?
Her words were steady and quietly spoken,
"I am promised to another and must respectfully decline your offer, Priestess Dindreann. I will partake of some food and drink, however. Thank you."
Rain noted the two kitsune among the presented delights. Her eyes flitted to Jiro for a brief moment before returning to Variel. None of the others drew her attention.
When they had a moment alone, she listened as Variel spoke.
She drew closer to him and she spoke softly,
"You know it is not in my nature to play such games of the heart with another. I will not, for the man simply means to win my heart, albeit unwisely/recklessly for I am betrothed to another. I would speak with him, and if you wish to be present, I will not discourage you. I am sorry for this. I do not know what I have done to encourage him so fervently. He saw me once, for a brief time, and I have instilled this passion in him ... Even I am unfamiliar with such impulsive affection. Would have have me return the earrings? Her eyes were once more the colour of the deep sea - the bright turquoise now infused with darker shades of blue.
Opening the box housing the turquoise earrings, Rain began casting .. She sought to know if there was any magic attached to the earrings as she awaited Variel's answer. Both Flynn and Dhaavan had mentioned that sorcery could be involved, and, although she did not believe the earrings anything more than a pretty inducement to win her heart, she erred on caution's side.
