Alatáriël Erithrahd |

Alatáriël looked at them with frustration "All I can tell you about Lamm is that he keeps the place guarded pretty well. He must to keep so many people out, and he definitely guards it well enough to keep most of the children from leaving. Some escape with barely a breath left in them. “ She slightly trailed off upon speaking about the children again. "No matter, the fishery is a change in location last I was… in contact with that horrible man. I cannot say who works for him now, but the ugly and ghoulish people he had working for him before were enough to keep children in check. I cannot necessarily say for adults it would be the same effect. A distraction might very well work upon his minions though I mean I doubt they are of the smartest variety.” Alatáriël nervously shuffled as the memories flooded her thoughts.

Guardsman Henric |

Henric covers his mouth, cursing under his breath at Alatariel's words. "How many lives will this man touch?"
He scratches his beard, thoughtfully. "If the complex is well guarded I would not risk covering all of the exits. We'll want as much manpower as we can muster." he says, absentmindedly, still staring at the elf. "I would not wish to create too much of a disturbance. Nor can I arrest him on official grounds lawfully." his brow furrows. "Titus. It seems you'll have to claim the bounty on this one."
He rubs his hands together and smiles, wearily. "I'm worrying too much, aren't I?" he says, chuckling. "I haven't done anything but patrol in a long time. It seems I've forgotten how to do anything else."
He shrugs, edging closer to watch the reading. "I've never seen a real Harrow reading before." he says, placing a hand on the back of his chair. He grins down at him excitedly, then stares intently at Zellara with all of the excitement of a child at his first Founding Festival

Marcus Ignatius |

Marcus cracks a slight smile as Henric leans forward to observe the cards. "If you practice this sort of vigilance when you're on duty, then Korvosa has nothing to fear." He gives him a sturdy pat on the shoulder as he stands and moves towards the wall. "Given our paladin's testimony, I'm not overly concerned about our chances in a straight up fight."
He crosses his arms as he leans against the wall, giving a nod towards Alatariel. "You sound as if you know the place well. Anything we could use to our advantage? I want to make sure we've considered any potential escape routes Lamm might have. It doesn't sound like his thugs would fair well against us in a straight up confrontation, but the man holding their whip is my concern. If we can enter under some other pretense, or draw his men away from their posts, it would give him less time to react to our intrusion."

DM Hector |

As this is over the internet and you are incapable of actually taking a card...
Alatáriël reaches forward and chooses the card at the bottom of the center column, the Crows.
Alexei then chooses his card. He reaches for the top card of the center column and draws the Cricket. Dhan's eyes squint in confusion when he realizes that that is the same card he brought with him. Not just another copy of the same name, but the same card, its writing now erased from its back.
Still confused at the apparent prestidigitation, Dhan reaches for the card at the top of the left column and returns with the Dance. Which, like the card given him, is the same card previously possessed by Alatáriël.
Next, Henric chooses his card from those remaining. Taking the top card from the right column and flipping up the Juggler.
As if he'd really rather not be wasting time with this foolishness, Marcus reaches for the card closest him and turns upright the card at the bottom of the left column, the Avalanche.
Nina taps her chin and considers the remaining cards carefully before choosing. One cannot rush fate. She then reaches for the final card in the left column and turns up the Locksmith.
Up last, Titus considers the cards arrayed before him. He reaches forward cautiously and draws back the card in the perfect center, the Peacock.
Zellara nods knowingly. "Thus completes the Choosing. Each of you remember the card you chose, for it represents your fate in the trials to come." Zellara takes back the cards you chose and shuffles the deck again. Once again you are amazed by her mastery of the cards, as they seem to move not so much by the ministrations of her hands, but by her will.
As she finishes, Zellara draws the top nine cards off the top of the deck and sets them before her in the same three-by-three spread, always beginning with her right. She then flips over the first card on her right (the top of the left-hand column). "The Beating," she says curiously. She then flips over the card just beneath it. "The Foreign Trader." Zellara then flips up the remaining card on the left column. "The Rakshasa." Zellara looks over the cards revealed, pondering their meaning. "This column represents the past. It is immutable, as it has already happened, but the cards drawn represent those events that have relevance on what it to come. A pact was struck, and its ramifications are now taking effect," she says pointing to the Foreign Trader. "The Rakshasa represents dominance and slavery. Perhaps some of you have been in such a state yourself in the past, and it has shaped you into the person you need to be today. Now," she says and begins to flip over the center column of cards.
She flips up the top card, revealing a knowing bird. "The Owl." Flipping over the second card in the column reveals a malicious devil voraciously swallowing innocents. "The Fiend." Then Zellara flips up the final card in the column. It shows a murder of sinister black birds. "The Crows," she states ominously looking at Alatáriël. "This column represents the present, the balance between the rigidity of the past and the mutability of that which is to come. The natural order of things is at this very moment crucial to what will come, but whether it is for good or ill is yet to be seen," she says tapping the Owl. "[/b] But this,[/b]" she says of the Crows, "Something precious will be lost, taken by force. This involves you, Alatáriël. Though whether you are the one who can prevent it or whether it is you who will lose that which you value is unclear."
With that Zellara then moves to the final column of cards. "These cards represent that which has not yet come to pass. Their revelations are always changing, for invariably do the past and present effect the future." She flips the first card, revealing a centaur. "The Wanderer," she says knowingly. Next she flips the middle card of the column. It shows a fiddling grig. "The Cricket," she says curiously looking at Alexei. She then flips the final card. Upon it is a wicked looking whirlwind, reveling in the destruction it wreaks. "The Cyclone! That bodes ill. Something has been lost," she says pointing at the Wanderer, "but it will later bring fortune." Then she points at the Cricket. "Speed and quickness will be of great importance," she says to Alexei. "There will come a time when you must move with great haste, lest you fall. Then there is this," she says ominously as she points to the Cyclone. "Evil plots are afoot and will soon come to fruition. This will bring about tumult and chaos. You all will be affects more than most. Take care."
She looks up from her cards and gathers them back into the deck. "Thank you for allowing me the honor of telling your fortune. I wish I could have been more helpful, but these forces are beyond my control. I wish you all well in your endeavors."

Alatáriël Erithrahd |

Alatáriël stared down at the floor before speaking. "Like I said, the fishery is a new location compared to the one I know so very well. It has been quite...a lot of years since...well since I last saw him. He would have to be in his nineties by now. However, even with being so old he is still able to manipulate children to do his dirty work. It is hard to believe that someone is so wicked that he gets children addicted to drugs just so he can keep them working for him. The thought makes me simply fume with anger. Anyway, I am rambling a bit. I do know that Gaedren keeps an alligator with him at all times. He has never moved somewhere without one. I am sure he will have one at this location as well. He uses them as a warning at first and then as a method of getting rid of the children who make him mad." Just the thoughts of Gaedren Lamm gave her chills down her spine. Even till this day knowing what he did to her so many years ago makes her quiver with fear and anger.
Alatáriël continued with all she could remember to try and help them in their initial strike at the fishery."The thugs I remember him having probably have changed by now as well. I mean it is possible they are the same, but body guards and low rift raft do not exactly last long in that line of work. At least, I wouldn't think so...

Alexei Sadron-Boroi |

Alexei begins muttering parts of the prophesy A pact was struck, and its ramifications are now taking effect. Dominance and slavery. Perhaps some of us have been in such a state ourselves in the past,Riel seems to be the one who fits, but does it apply to her alone? and it has shaped us into the person we need to be today.
The natural order of things is at this very moment crucial to what will come, but whether it is for good or ill is yet to be seen. What is the natural order of thing? Is nature itself under threat? Do we need to follow nature to confront Lamm? Something precious will be lost, taken by force. This involves Alatáriël. Though whether you are the one who can prevent it or whether it is you who will lose that which you value is unclear. So the loss has not happened yet, what could she lose that is precious, and what could she prevent?
Something has been lost, but it will later bring fortune.Does this refer to Anca? What is the fortune that is to come? Speed and quickness will be of great importance, There will come a time when you must move with great haste, lest you fall. This card is mine. When must I move with haste? Abadar, grant thy servant wise counsel, swift judgement, and clear understanding. I feel we will all need this soon, thy servant most of all. I am not a man of swiftness. Then there is this, Evil plots are afoot and will soon come to fruition. This will bring about tumult and chaos. You all will be affects more than most. These are the cards of future, so the evil plots are not yet, so it's probably not Lamm who this refers to, as that would be the present. I need to be ready for a future time when haste will be of utmost importance, which will also be when a past loss will bring fortune. Argh! I'm feeling as though this does not just refer to Lamm, but what parts do and do not, and what does it mean?! Why are we closer to this than other? Oh mercyful Lady, this sounds likes the beginning of something great!(*in the traditional sense of something momentous, like Alexander the Great, or the great quake of of 1906*)
After the others seem to have digested a bit. In a subdued voice Alexei asks What do you make of this Alatáriël?

Alatáriël Erithrahd |

Alatáriël looks at Alexei with a hint of confusion in her eyes, which is quickly covered with a more obvious look of sadness that often filled her features. I am not quite sure, all that we can do is hope that what the prophecy speaks of will not be forced upon us sooner than we need it too be. I mean any kind of misfortune is not welcomed, but if it cannot be prevented we wouldn't want it to fall upon us during a time when we are weak. For now though I think that we should focus more on the matter at hand. How to stop Gaedren Lamm. The name rolling off her tongue was filled with disdain.

DM Hector |

@Dhan: No diplomacy check needed. You know that fishermen come and go frequently. The Jeggare River runs past the east side of the building. the north entrance is the primary loading and unloading zone for the fish and slurry. The west front has the office entrance where clients meet with the owner, a man named Yargin Balko. Also, permanently anchored in the river adjacent to the building is an old derelict ship.
I'll post a map as soon as possible.

Marcus Ignatius |

"This is a waste of time," snorts Marcus. He uncrosses his arms and moves to retrieve his cloak. "Even if these readings are accurate, they could mean a hundred different things at a thousand different times, and if we sit here in rampant speculation, we accomplish nothing. No one can know the future, one can only be prepared." A flick of his wrist brings his staff floating to his hand, and he punctuates his point with a sharp rasp on the floor. "We need to stick with what we know - that Lamm has committed numerous atrocities and gone unpunished, that he's now at Westpier 17, and that he's guarded by common rabble that's none too bright. Stay here playing with paper if you want, but I'm heading to Westpier to find something concrete to base my preparations on." Giving a slight shake of his head, Marcus pulls up his hood and steps outside, starting towards Westpier.

Alexei Sadron-Boroi |

Lead on says with a Alexei with a wry smile. He silently asks himself, why in a group that obviously has more experience at this sort of thing than I do, am I the only one who likes the idea of making plans here where it's warm and we have our mysterious friend. Either I've a mistaken idea how one goes about this, or they're doing it wrong. On the whole, I'd think it would be better if I was in error this time.

Alatáriël Erithrahd |

Alatáriël stares at Marcus as he starts heading out the door toward the pier. She looks at the others a slight smirk upon her face, "I guess we are going then. I assume the plan is to bust up in there and hope that we aren't wrong about the people that are guarding that old bastard." She slowly followed behind Marcus toward the pier that was home to the man who had made her childhood a living hell.

Guardsman Henric |

Henric finishes donning his cloak by the door, chuckles at Marcus and, nodding politely at Zellara ducks out of the door.
"Had you forgotten the rain, my friend?" he bellows. "But I agree. Let's have it done." he adds somberly. He walks by the elf and leans in, though not so close as to violate her aura of mystique. "I'm sure Gadrenn employs some desperate men." he says, shaking his head. "But all men are equal before the Judge." he adds, rhythmicly.
He motions everybody close before they round the corner to the docks, raising his voice to a near-shout over the rain. "We'll take the north entrance! Storm the warehouse! I'd rather go in with the strength of numbers, but if you think it best, we'll block off the waterfront exit as well!" He pauses, blinking back the water. "Wear your cloaks tight and keep your weapons at hand. Tonight you're deputies of the Korvosan Guard." he says, sticking out the insignia on his chest. "We need only maintain our ruse long enough to get inside. With any luck, we'll draw Lamm out of hiding."
He stops, staring down the gloomy street, before turning to Dhan. "My friend, you work the Shingles, am I wrong?" he says, clapping a hand on Marcus' shoulder. "Why don't you scout out the place, Dhan? Show our good friend from Egoran how it's done?"
Here's a long awaited scene change. Does anybody have bluff and/or diguise? Regardless we should all aid another. I'll try to subdue the guards nonlethally unless they give me reason to use lethal force. y'all do whatever is necessary.

Dhan Semloh |

Dhan looks a bit askew at the guardsman. "Well since I am now a deputy of the guard, then all my gear must also be ok with the guard, as well as my ..umm..techniques. Right? Would not wish to do anything illegal right here infront of so many different law enforcement agents!"
With that, Dhan moves into the shadow and disappears. Working his way around the warf he spies the warehouse in the distance. He looks up at the rooftops, planning his assent and movements over the wet and slippery Shingles. After a few moments of planning, he approches a nearby structure. Removing his climbing gear, he starts his way towards the old fishery.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Not too sure how many climb checks I need to get there...or if I also need to re-roll stealth.

Titus Darunde |

Stooping to snatch a piece of charcoal from the hearth, Titus follows the others out the door, not know what to think of "The Peakcock" card. Pulling up his hood against the rain he hurries after the others.
"Henric has the right of it, let us charm our way in. I have an idea to help." As the group makes its way towards the warehouse the bounty hunter rummages in his pack, pulling out an old wanted poster. Using the charcoal, he quickly adds a few lines and shading to make the picture and name unrecognizable. Holding it up, "Here, if we flash this quickly it may help, it's a little soggy but that actually works as well. Just say we heard 'Brontus Mandrake' a wanted criminal was last seen thereabouts and we need to talk to the proprieter." Hopping over a flooded gutter, Titus turns to the others, "Any other ideas to help here?"
I hope this prop will give Henric or whoever is bluffing a circumstance bonus.
If possible I'd like to make a Profession:Bounty Hunter check to act the part? Or give me a bonus to a Bluff check to assist the main Bluffer, whatever makes sense.
Profession:Bounty Hunter 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

DM Hector |

Sounds good, Titus. And Dhan, those checks'll get you there both swiftly and unseen. I should have that map of the place up after I get off work this evening. Also, remember guys, you are heading in there fairly late at night. You met up at Zellara's just after sunset, so by the time you get there, it'll be close to 10:00 - 11:00.

Alatáriël Erithrahd |

Alatáriël looked at Henric "Desperate or crazy, either way he employes scum." She continues down the path as she listens to each of her new acquaintances as they discuss how they would acquire entrance to the building. However, upon her hearing Henric mention being apart of the guard something snapped a bit inside of Alatáriël. She looked at him with a slight anger apparent upon her face. "I'll will never be a part of the Korvosan Guard. I do this for all those people who lives this old bastard has ruined, for all the lives he has taken, including the life he took from me. I do this in the name of Erastil. It was him who kept me alive that day, not the Korvosan Guard. She calmed herself and went back to the matter at hand, getting into the fishery.
I will make a stealth check because it probably better than me trying to lie my way in lol.
Stealth:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Chee |

It's OK Riël. I think Hendric has a good idea, and he didn't mean to offend
To Henric The Bank of Abadar would be pleased to assist the Guard in investigating the alleged hiding place of a wanted criminal. I even have a formal outfit. He says with a smile I doubt Lamm's scum will be eager to challenge a investigation by Bank, Guard, and Hell. They'll probably just try offer us a bribe, at first.
If I make suggestion Titus, as priest to a god truth, I can't very well ask for Abadar's blessing if we are lying. And there is no need. All we have to do is say that wanted criminal was reported in the area, which is true. With the name, it's a lie. Without, its the truth. Oh the joys of being a lawyer. assuming the fishery isn't too far away I will do the following action now. If it will take us more than half an hour to get there, I will do this once we are close to it As soon as the group looks to split, Alexei remembers Oh wait everyone! Gather in so I can invoke the Blessing of The Watchsee SRD on our endeavors. I leave description of the spell to you DM The boon will last for one hour.

DM Hector |

Guardsman Henric |

Henric's brow furrows at the word "scum", you see him mouth it, angrily, but he shakes it off. There are more important things at hand.
Henric sets his jaw at Alatariel's outburst. You see a flash of dissapointment in his eyes. "Thank you, Alexei." he says, woodenly. "Me and Titus are of the same mind. I meant it merely as a ruse." he says walking ahead and staring at the fishery. "If you're so ashamed to be associated with thus keepers of the peace, Elf, I suggest you go home." he says over his shoulder, icily.
He thanks Alexei and bows his head for the blessing. "I made an oath to the church too, Alexei. But mine bade me to protect the citizens of this city." he says. "If a little lie helps us get through tonight with no innocent blood spilt, I am for it."
Henric peers at Dhan, waiting for a signal of some kind.
Perception1d20 ⇒ 7

DM Hector |

@Dhan: No, but you do see a few people in the building.
Btw, just noticed I forgot to show the river. It runs across the south side and around the base of the ship (duh). Forgot to give directionality. North is the left on the map. Also, there is a door in the center wall of the west side of the building. I'll fix it up asap.

Titus Darunde |

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 +2 vs any of the humans inside
Titus stands at the main door with Henric, holding the altered wanted poster, and playing up the tough bounty hunter image as much as possible, greatsword tip in the ground, with a hand resting on top of it in a relaxed but ready posture.

Marcus Ignatius |

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
I was wondering about the viability of a distraction. I presume there are numerous gutters and storm drains nearby? If we could find any scrap of dry cloth, light it (I've got Spark prepared), and drop it down one of the gutters, I'd imagine it would garner a reaction from the local drain spider population. Hell, Mage Hand would even let us do so from a distance. What do you think?
Also, Hector, I can't tell you how excited I am to be able to view this map. My other campaign has been using Google Docs, which is blocked in China, and my VPN has been dismantled so I can view it. Might I ask what program you're using?

Twigs |

"Alexei, you're with me." he says, before nodding to the others. "Head around the docks and cut off his escape. I'll signal you if things get ugly." he says, clasping a small whistle around his neck. "Twice if he bolts."
He leans by the door, waiting patiently. Henric looks Titus up and down, cocking an eyebrow at Titus' huge blade. "I'm surprised they let you carry that thing in city limits." he says, hand on the longsword at his belt.
He shifts on his feet, staring fixedly at the cobbles. He seems to be stifling a smirk.
That plan is all kinds of awesome. I don't know if Henric would approve, but that's only for all the paperwork he'd have to fill out. I gather us three at the door should be distraction enough for today, but you never know. :P
I definately want to use that at some point. That's class-a material. I'll leave it at your discretion whether today's the day.

Dhan Semloh |

Dhan moves to the edge of the building, right above the guardsman and the bounty hunter. He whispers to them, telling them of the layout of the interior, where the kids are and the location of the greasy-hair, poorly dressed fellow. He then waits for further instructions.

Alexei Sadron-Boroi |

Alexei is puzzled by Henric's reaction, There must be a story here. He didn't seem to like me using the term 'scum', and Reil and Henric are doing a fair imitation of drake and imp. Definitely ask them about it later. but gets into position with the other two and makes sure his pistol is loaded. Well, if everyone is ready, let's be about it.
Once combat starts, everyone remember to include your +1 to attack and save vs fear rolls. You are filled courage and and should feel as though at this moment you are watchmen(and women) of the city.

DM Hector |

@Marcus: Glad you like the map, and I should have the edited version up this evening. I use maptools. There's a screenshot function that allows you to save your maps as image files. I use the same program for my internet games, as it has rules for macro'd dice rolls, custom tokens (which can have stats added to them which allows you to customize your dice so that you can just click attack and depending on which token is selected it reads the bonus to add from that creature), and light sources (with rules for l.o.s., vision blocking so players can only see what their characters can see, and varying vision types). Cool program altogether. But I digress...
Also, Henric and Alatáriël, it's cool for you guys to have arguments as long as you both make sure it stays in character and is for the rp.
And Dhan, don't know if I was clear on this, but most of the building is asleep other than the people I mentioned.
Otherwise, when you start a commotion we'll get this underway.

Twigs |

But... but she started it miss! :P
There's no need to worry, Hector. We'll behave.
I'm a big maptools fan myself, my group plays 50% of its games online. However my players are mixed. We always seem to have trouble with the LOS settings but I love them too much to turn them off... but now I'm derailing things. I'll post Henric's actions in an hour or so. I've got a train to catch.

Guardsman Henric |

"You three take the office door. We'll draw him out." he says, and waits until everyone is in position. I believe this puts Dhan, Riel and Nina in the office at the bottom-center of the map, hopefully undetected, and us at the door to the left. This doesn't really let us cut him off like I'd hoped, so fingers crossed I don't spook him.
He nods to Alexei and Titus, taking a deep breath. He runs over the procedure for a raid in his head. I'll make a profession check here, possibly for any knowledge or circumstance bonuses to our bluff.
Profession (solider) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
He then raps on the warehouse door three times before barging through it sweeping along the right wall, weapon drawn and stopping at the office door.
"Come out in the name of the law! Come quiet and you won't be hurt!"I'll aid another on Titus' bluff check, he's got the poster. I'd also like to ready an action to move into the office, if possible?

DM Hector |

For the sake of ease of play, Nina will be here, but not be here until Moonbomb is back.
The door is locked. Str check to bust open, or a Disable Device to pick the lock (though I think you might not have time for that). Your pounding does seem to have attracted some attention, however. "What's the meaning of all this?" you hear a voice call in a frustrated tone.
Dhan, from your vantage point, the west entrance is now unguarded. The greasy-haired fellow grabs an oil lamp and heads towards the loading zone in frustration.

Marcus Ignatius |

Marcus approaches the door with a swift stride. "Far too cordial," he whispers to Henric. "The polite 'one and only chance' never works."
With that, he presents himself to the door and gives it a sharp rasp with his staff. "Forgive my friend," he calls. "He sometimes forgets explanations in his zeal for justice. We have business with your employer, the nature of which you need not concern yourself. Rest assured that those who give no cause for harm shall receive none, Lamm included." His voice takes on a darker tone as he continues. "I would like to bring to your attention, however, that you have a conglomeration of the city watch, the clergy of Abadar, and an associate of the Hellknights gathered outside of your door. You have our attention, sir, whether you want it or not, though simply opening a door could very easily direct it elsewhere."
Intimidate check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

DM Hector |

@Dhan: Yes it is. You hear a dog start barking loudly, and a light comes on in the southernmost room. The man runs into the room directly across from the one you can see and slams the door shut.
Everyone else: Henric, you plow through the rotten wood door, reducing it to splinters. The stink of the room you now find yourselves in, a mixture of sweat and fish, is enough to make the eyes water. To the east, a large trough holds a hideous mound of half-rancid fish, seaweed, and brine. Filthy seawater and fish blood stain the floor around this trough. A pair of chutes lead from this trough through holes in the wall into a larger room to the east. To the west, a desk and chair sits in one corner, while a tall cabinet sits in the other.
