So we start of 20 years before the events of Critical Role, In a shifty town (Kind of like pre Nolan-Batman Gotham), the town is somewhat ruled by the criminal underworld, while the police can do nothing or even take part in the activities. But we start on a smaller scale, and start with a single piece of paper, an advertisement sent out by aspiring guild leader Vanessa for aspiring adventurers

Rrath |

Rrath sees to it that the caravan safely reaches its current destination, some small town, much like others. He was paid his 2 gold by the merchant, and he needed to slack his thirst.
Spotting thr hubub in the street, and seeing the dark elf looking at a note, he approaches.
What gives?
He can see a tavern referenced on the note at a glance.Rrath is very imposing. He is large and well-muscled with tribal tattoos and scars from battles all over his exposed arms. The Greataxe sheathed on his back and the two handaxes on his belt leave nothing to the imagination.
Well now, I was headin' there anyways...
What does it say?

Chaq Caex |

Chaq had confiscated the advertisement from a young man after one of his sermons. He likely would have dismissed the matter but for the last line... a Tiefling, best to take a closer look at this proposal. If it was a crude front for a corrupting influence he would root it out, if it was of a less dubious nature then perhaps it would be worthy of consideration...
Chaq of House Caex donned his armour and checked his gear. One way or another he might have use for it soon.

Morgana De Vallenz |

A woman enters the tavern and looks around. She was wearing leather pants and a tightly wrapped leather tunic that accentuates her impressive curves.
She has a pistol shoved through her belt and the handle of a shortsword sticking up over her left shoulder. Her dark hair and almond-shaped, emerald-colored eyes almost hint at an Elven heritage, but the rest of her shows that she is completely Human.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
The woman walks right up to the Tiefling and say "I understand you're looking for adventurers." before holding out a notice.

Nilelane |
She squints her beady black eyes at the shifty characters.
Grumbling something about 'little dogs barking', Nilelane passes through the crowd on the way to the demon-blooded employer... "What exactly are you proposing here, planetouched? I am Nilelane, courtier of the House Xorlarrin...to get things done, I know who to talk to...and how."

Chaq Caex |

The clink of metal and heavy footsteps fills the air as a huge golden scaled dragonborn moves through the tavern casting disdainful dismissive looks about freely before laying his eyes on the tiefling.
As he draws closer symbols of Bahamut as well as noble heraldry, a golden dragon rampant on a quartered red and green field. "I'm Chaq of House Caex. You have me curious as to what you had in mind?"

DM Greaek |

She grins and says "for years this city has been ruled by its criminal overlords, and I know some people who would be very interested to have a band organized to clear out their area. The offer is you would go to the house of kanos, and help him out with some subterranean spies. Y'all would be payed 50 up front, and 50 after the deed is done"
Ken and Dan you guys can hear this in the background

Jaynie |

Sy, with his elven hearing, listens in on the odd gathering of people over on the other side of the tavern. While the money means little to him, the chance of freeing people from the grip of the crime syndicate does perk his interest.
"Would you maybe consider one more for your group?", he asks as he walks over to the others.
A typical elf, he is dressed in light-studded leather armor and armed with a longbow, sword, and dagger. He sets a traveler's pack down on the ground as he steps forward. His clothes and gear, while in good condition, show signs of travel and heavy use. The elf himself stands just shy of 6 feet and has the typical slim build of his people. Long black hair is braided in a single queue down his back. Piercing blue eyes flick from person to person as he awaits an answer to his question.

Chaq Caex |

"As long as everything is reasonable I'll assist but if this is some trickery to spread injustice there will be a reckoning." The hulking Dragonborn leans forward "But if you are innocent of any such action you can rest easy. The fangs of a servant of Bahamut are for the throats of villains."

"Whispers" |

This is Gnomezrule's Alt.
Whispers has seen these small papers here and there. "Aspiring adventurers." The tabaxi lets out a sigh as he rubs the spot on his studded leathers where the emblem of the watch has been torn free. "A catman's gotta eat."
Throughout the morning and afternoon. Whispers makes rounds and chats up old friends from the City Watch. It has been a few weeks since 'the incident' cost him his career and what had become his recent mission. He stayed close with those he could trust, still chatted up the ones he knew he couldn't trust and even though he's not the watch anymore his old informants were still willing to be chatty for drink or a few coins.
Whispers took the City Watch background. Before going into the meet up. He will have wanted to gather some info. Not sure how much starting cash I would be left with after the basic starting equipment but Whispers would spend a few to grease the wheels of information. He is going to talk to old friends on the watch and visit some of his informants.
History Vanesa and the new guild- has this come up before: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
perception to listen in on things: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Persuation to find out what I can: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
A little more than an hour before the expected time Whispers is going to go to the tavern and order a drink. He is going to keep his hood up and find an inconspicuous spot. He sits fiddling with some string. When approached by a server he orders a warm drink quietly.
Not sure if the Tiefling is already there when he arrives or if she arrives later. But when he notices the tiefling he will finish his drink, head to where the privy might be and when he comes back out will settle at a table near the Tiefling.
Stealth to not be noticed/look non-descript: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Perception to listen in: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Frustrated that he can't hear very well and he catches the Dragonborn's accusing eyes, he sighs. If the Dragonman made you the drow has you dead to rights. He shifts and stands. His feline eyes glowing under his hood. He approaches the table casually.
"I hope I am not too late." He pulls back his hood and his feline features come to light. He smirks, "I heard something about catching rats."

DM Greaek |

You do not recall anything, you hear a guy talking to someone about "the tiefling's job", but had to dart away to escape attention,You talk to a couple people who tell you about a cocky upstart tiefling trying to start a guild called the slayers take
You realize that the majority of the time Vanessa has been talking she has been watching you, and when you approach she says "you finally come to talk, I was hopeful the cat did not have your tongue"
