"A request of us by the 'Slayer's Guild' was made for to the House of Kanos. The intermediary would not speak plainly on the matter speaking of both spies and rats. We would seek further insight into this matter before resolving the issue efficiently. I am Chaq of House Caex..." He goes about naming everyone so they can be properly announced to the master or mistress of the house.

He grins and says of course and chaq roll an insight check

Shocked Nilelane scrubs her cheek disinfectingly "Gurrouh! Rul'selozan niar!"

Drow:

"Yuck, disgusting waters!"

Whispers facepalms.

That was awesome Chaq. Whispers isn't happy but it was still awesome.

Sy waits patiently as the others sort themselves out. He dos snag one of the healing potions (if no one else wants it) and places it within easy reach.

"It was unclear. But I think the confusion was SPICE rats. Sounds like spies doesn't it." He looks to Morgana for support. "Right."

Nilelane backs him up also "...obviously "spice rats" is what he was talking about." she frowns at Chaq "You surfacers have the language skills of infants..."

Help action to grant advantage

"Spice rats? Are they to release pungent odours and wafts of finely cut plant matter when we hit them? I am not a priest a deity of Nature and leave such rural inclinations for those that are and farmers. We were told of subterranean spies and then rats in the basement. One might be a colourful phrase for the other but no one mention spice. Try to keep up rather than being rude but I'll forgive your lack of understanding of the intricacies of the academically refined surface languages. Your use of the word surfacer is incorrect as I am not a machine used in building but at least your intent is clear."

"I'll warrant that perhaps the tiefling woman could have been clearer but refused to do so. " Chaq looks a little annoyed

"I had hopes of underground criminals being crushed underfoot and I hope that's true because a bunch of rodents would be... we'll we're here now." He puts a hand on Whisper's shoulder "Maybe it will be these Spiced Rats but if we're lucky there might be some kind of Rat Demon or something involved so cheer up. I'd be very pleased to vanquish some kind of horrific demon or monster by the end of this excursion."

I know little of this setting so if spice rats are a common thing it went over my head.... still I resisted the urge to have him twist the knife and refer to Nilelane as cave elf but that would be over the line.

Hehe, refer away. I think Whispers was trying to say that revealing to this person we were looking for spies was a bad idea, that keeping it on the downlow would have been preferable. It sort of sounded like 'Hi, who is the spy here? We're here to find him.' Better to not tell everyone we are looking for spies, and instead find the informant. So he made up that quick funny lie about spies=spice to cover us. How big of a deal it really is I don't know, she was just trying to give advantage to the cover.

Ah well she said to come here... it wouldn't occur to Chaq to go up to the door and lie to the Buttler, he assumes he's a loyal servant... I mean he's a buttler.... he could be worse

Krutt does not need a potion. He's used to taking some hits.

Krutt rolls his eyes but chuckles under his breath. It'd been a while since he was on the force and he'd forgotten how much he missed it. But this band - we so obviously look out of place that we might actually arouse less suspicion. But he snaps himself out of his nostalgia. There was work to do, and he would need to have his senses keen.

Hey, I imagine we are doing better than the Critical Role crew. Odds are 50/50 they would have just attacked the butler! :)

He grins and says your here to the care of the black arrows, it's ok I know, please step inside
Can y'all roll perception checks as you walk inside

This will be interesting. Krutt is decent at sorting out clues, but awful at finding them in the first place! :)

Perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1

Yikes!! That is awesome! He is so bad at spotting things, he misses the door or something. Hahaha!

Although with your house rules, the lowest possible is my passive perception, which is a still bad 8.

Chaq starts walking towards the noise giving the others a meaningful look.

Ok our mr. whispers has given me a tip, one i shall use. after rolling initiative for Morgana and Sylberos (the only ones who have not rolled here is the order
Whispers
Morgana
Rrath
Sylberos
Nilelane
Talker badguy
Chaq
Fisticuff Dudes
Krutt

Male Tabaxi CG Rogue 1 AC 17 HP 17/17 Passive Perception 15 Init +5 Proficency Bonus +2

I am assuming these guys look threatening and are brandishing reaching for weapons.

Round 1

Whispers draws his rapier and if they are not already in melee range moves so that if they advance he is ready to support whichever of our lead burly types is up front.

"Is this really necessary? We're here about rats. You're out numbered still and no one needs to bleed. Provided you let your captive go."

Persuade: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Any action I am going to delay until they come at us or commit to violence.

The Talker says "Well the rats are fine where they are kitty cat"'

Male Tabaxi CG Rogue 1 AC 17 HP 17/17 Passive Perception 15 Init +5 Proficency Bonus +2

"Well you were warned?

Whispers will wait till he can support one of the frontliners. Move in and engage.

Without a map I assume they are either already in melee range or closing in, likewise I assume our heavy hitters are going to hit heavily. Basically I am going to hit once one of them is engaged with at least one more of us for Sneak Attack.

Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Rapier Attack Advantage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Damage w/ Sneak Attack: 1d8 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 5 + (6) = 15

Nilelane sighs and steps forward, pointing her finger at all 3 of them one at a time saying simply "Fall."

Cast sleep to get as many as I can unconscious without getting party also, no save. Can only be woken by shake or slap. Affects:

HD: 5d8 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 6, 2) = 20

There is no-one near you, as they are about 10 feet away so you will have to wait
The talker blinks twice, and falls to the ground

Right. I was delaying. Once one of them steps up or one of our heavy hitters step up. I am going to move in and hit.

Nilelane laughs maniacally "Yes...your leader was nothing. You can be next boys. Perhaps you are not familiar with the power of the drow...let me teach you."

Round 1

Rrath moves in and attacks the nearest enemy with his Greataxe.

GA Att: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
GA Dam: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Max HP: 11 | AC: 17 | Init: +4 | Saves: Str: +1; Dex: +4; Con: +3; Int: +0; Wis: +3; Cha: +3

Morgana draws her pistol, Tsks and then fires at the butler.

Attack Roll (w/-5 penalty for Sharpshooter): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damage Roll (w/+10 bonus from Sharpshooter): 1d120 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32

Not that it it a concern, but next time remind 2 from 1d120, tho it is amazing how low it rolled

Morgana shoots and misses, rrath steps forward and hits, than whispers hits again dealling significant damage but he still stands, waiting for Slyberos

Noble Dragonborn Cleric 2- HP: 17/17, AC: 18, Resistance (Fire) Initiative +0. Spell Slots 3/3

Seeing as the only bad guy going before me in initiative is taking a nap...

Chaq advances into the midst of his foes swinging his mace. "We deal with these ones swiftly and rescue the people being tortured... there might just be a demon waiting to be smote in my near future after all."
Mace: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Staying near the back of the pack, Si takes aim with his bow and fires at whichever enemy shows themselves and is not blocked by one of his comrades.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

You hit him, and he still stands, nilelane puts talker to sleep, waiting for chaq

Didnt Chaq go a few posts above? I see it as:

Round 1:
Whispers
Morgana
Rrath
Sylberos
Nilelane
Talker badguy
Chaq

Fisticuff Dudes <--UP
Krutt

Shoot sorry, they attack rrath, one slapping the talker and than attacking twice and the other 3 times 16 and than 24 10 damage for one dude, the other got an 8,16,22 5 damage him down with the second attack, and than remaining goes to chaq 6 damage

Male Tabaxi CG Rogue 1 AC 17 HP 17/17 Passive Perception 15 Init +5 Proficency Bonus +2

So are there 3 enemies and one slept and the other 2 guys are both still up. Or are there more than 3 enemies. Does "one slapping the talker" mean they are trying to wake him.

the brawlers got three fist attacks, one used the attack to slap the talker dude awake

Ok so we are waiting on our resident brawler krutt

Male Tabaxi CG Rogue 1 AC 17 HP 17/17 Passive Perception 15 Init +5 Proficency Bonus +2

Cool so all three are awake. But 2 have been injured?

no the one is almost down

Male Half-Orc Barbarian (Outlander)(CN)/2, HP 23/30; , AC: 14 , Saves: STR +6 CON +5, Initiative: +0, Passive Perception: 12; Rage Remaining 1/2

How much damagd did Rrath take...I am a bit lost. You do know unarmed attacks usually only do d4 plus STR?

Actually untrained unarmed attacks only do 1+STR Bonus, I believe. I was just looking this up for another game when I came across it and was surprised!
