"No insult taken, my friend, but let's turn our attention to the rafters for a moment." Zak points out the lurking men to Simon and Poog.

Simon turns his light eyes upward and directs a rather menacing glare at the men Zakarras spotted.

"It is late, I am getting on in years, and I have had a rather unsatisfying day," he says in a quiet tone of voice. "If anyone interrupts my dinner, I am afraid I shall get rather testy."

The old man twists the handle of his walking cane as he speaks.

Zarina, battered and bruised, is slow to glance upward. When she does, and sees the men, she wearily shakes her head, waiting for the others to decide the course of action. She was ready to bite and claw yet again, if the need was there.

And need there was. As the five Warriors become aware of the men in the rafters, they move. Grabbing ahold of the silken banners, they spiral down to ground level, landing softly in the noodle house's main floor. Two of the patrons also stand, throwing aside their cloaks and drawing identical sansetsukons as well. As one, the four leap to the attack.

These guys were here to ambush you, so actions may be taken in initiative.

Zak launches into the air while drawing his bow, hovering out of reach of the thugs as he sends an arrow into the nearest assailant.

"Perhaps you would rather start with a conversation?" Zak queries the unknown attackers.

The arrow strikes its mark, but the thug merely grits his teeth and snaps the arrow, tossing the shaft away. "Talk if you want," he says. "It might take your mind off the beating you're about to receive." They rush forwards, leaping over disused tables and upturned chairs to attack the four of you, ignoring Simon for the moment.

The men are all quite skilled with the three-section staff, as all four can attest, and they are all struck by several solid blows. "There's more from where that came from!", one bellows, and they gesture menacingly with their sansetsukons. From this brutal beating, Asha, Poog and Zarina are sickened for three rounds.

And your turns!

Um, Zak is flying...? How did they pull that off? Also, why there is a damage roll on me after Zarina's with no attack roll alongside it? And finally, are we surrounded, or do I have room to make a 5 ft step away from all of them?

Whoops, missed that Zak took off into the air. OK, then his actually went after Simon instead. Conveniently, he doesn't get his sneak attack off on Simon either, since he's got uncanny dodge. The damage roll on Asha after the attack on Zarina is due to copypasta; that's supposed to be damage on Zarina. And, yes, you may make a 5 ft. step and be away from all of them at the moment. As one of the men strikes Poog with his three-section-staff, a flash of light suddenly causes a horde of writhing worms to crawl up the staff and burrow into the man's flesh. He screams in fear and pain as they begin to eat away at him. Poog unstoppers the bottle, and the man's screams are cut off as he draws the man's breath into the vial. He doubles over and gasps for breath, coughing profusely as he struggles for air.

The one facing Zarina dodges nimbly out of the way of her first strike, but the second rakes across his midsection, leaving behind four red streaks across his chest. He parries her third blow, though it's clear that he now is far more wary of the woman than before.

"How about now, ready to start talking?" Zak taunts the men.

Simon tries to leap away from the thug who attacked him, but he telegraphs his move. The brute sneers and lashes out with his sansetsukon again.

Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

He catches the old man in the ribcage, and Simon hears a snap and feels his bones give way to the crushing blow. Still, he continues to dart away from the thug, rushing to the one that attacked Zarina and stabbing him from behind. The thug howls in pain and lashes out with his staff, but Simon is already gone - the weapon whistles through the air, striking nothing.

Zak takes advantage of the fact that the one that went after Simon is now unobstructed, and peppers him with arrows. He staggers to one knee, and looks as though he is about to fall over, but he stubbornly refuses to fall, getting back up and glaring at the archer with abject hatred. "Damn you," he spits, red foam in his mouth. "Get down here and fight like a man!"

Female Human (Vudrani) monk of the four winds 4 / paladin 8

"It is frustrating, isn't it," Asha says, with what sounds like genuine sympathy. But she kicks her glaive up into her hands, murmuring a prayer to Shelyn as she does, and moves to strike at one of the men.

Being deliberately vague on the targeting here, because I don't know whether what I want to do is possible, and if it is, I don't know which guy it would work on. I want to ready my glaive and, using the benefits of its reach, get into a flanking position opposite Zarina and Simon. I've got a casting of grace I can and will use to make this possible without AoOs if needed. If I can't get into a position for flanking both of them currently, I'd prefer to set up Simon for a flank - but if Simon moved far enough away that he's not threatening any of them, I'll set up a flank opposite Zarina and hope Simon can use his Spring Attack to get into a flank on his own. If I don't have to use grace, I'll spend a ki point for +4 AC.

Glaive attack, sickened, with flank and Power Attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19, damage 1d10 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20 plus 1d6 ⇒ 1 nonlethal and dazzled.

Bah. With that roll, probably doesn't matter anyway.

Asha pulls her glaive, placing herself in position to aid both Zarina and Simon, and while her blade comes close to hitting the man, he dodges out of the way with inches to spare.

Given the close quarters, you probably have to use grace.

The four men seem concerned that you have not fallen, but press on with their attacks regardless. The one that Zak skewered with arrows pulls a dart from his belt and hurls it at the archer. He snarls impotently at the man, knowing there's not a whole lot else that he can do.

Attack (Zak): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Damage (Zak): 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Those that are terrestrially bound, however, face their foes directly. Asha and Zarina face the full fury of the men and their three-section-staves, as does Poog, though the man is slower to move from the pain of burrowing worms. He grits his teeth and fights on through the pain. I forgot to deal damage to this guy last round for failing the save, so he now takes 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage.

Is Poog's assailant alive? If so, he's going to do something Asha won't like...

Uh-oh. Yes, he is.

Poog pulls a jagged short sword, holes cut in it, and calmly walks up to his downed assailant, slitting his throat.

"I told you, meat!" he snarls.

Coup de grace: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 2 = 7

"POOG, NO!" Asha shouts, heart-stricken.

Yep. Didn't like that at all.

Wait, what's the initiative situation? Did anyone come before Poog?

Male Goblin Witch 12 HP 88/76, AC 21, touch 18, flat-footed 18, Fort +10, Ref +11, Will +12,

I think we're still fighting. Poog certainly wouldn't have telegraphed what he was going to do. Poog did warn stupid assassin who would've done same to Poog if he didn't suck.

Asha's foe sees he is surrounded, but refuses to yield, shouting at her with fury. "Damn you, woman, fall!" His sansetsukon lashes out at her, but with the element of surprise gone, Asha easily avoids both of them.

Asha's cry is too late; the man gurgles as his throat is viciously slashed, and expires soon afterwards. Only Asha's foe remains, and he looks very worried, having now seen the famed cruelty of goblins firsthand.

I missed that everyone had gone, so Poog's attack happens immediately after the one attacking Asha.

"Surrender and live," Simon says in a flat tone of voice. "Continue as you have, and die."

Talking as a free action, giving this guy a last chance to yield. If he doesn't, it's Standard Action Time!

"You can't outrun my arrows", Zak chides from his lofty perch, "Surrendering and living seems to be your best option."

"Heh, surrender?", the thug sneers. "If I surrender to you, I'm as good as dead." With a last defiant snarl, he winds up to strike at Asha again.

"Your choice, fool," Simon says, coldly -- and his rapier flashes out, jabbing at joints and tendons.

Simon sneak attacks, using flanking benefits, and expends one Ki point to attack Pressure Points, dealing 1 point of Dexterity damage if he hits; let's try to take this guy down alive. Attack roll: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23. Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 + 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6) = 12 sneak attack damage.

Is Asha still able to retreat to use her glaive? Not sure how big the space we're in is.

Absolutely, Asha. Yon Loi's noodle house is a large two-story tavern.

The thug shouts in pain as Simon leaps to take advantage of the man's unprotected right flank, his blade dripping crimson. He staggers off to the side, but regains his balance, levelling a hate-filled gaze towards Simon. "You'll pay for that, old man! I'll cleave your skull in twain!"

With arrow drawn and ready, Zak waits, hoping his companions subdue the man instead of killing him.

Zarina swings at the opponent again, not unleashing her full power. She hoped that after a fiery slash, he might reconsider his position on surrendering.

"You'll have to hit me first, you young fool," Simon says, his voice still deathly cold. "And you are all alone."
