"Later today, I imagine," Simon replies, his voice still a little faint. "Battle will find us, my dear Goblin, you needn't worry about that."

Male Goblin Witch 12 HP 88/76, AC 21, touch 18, flat-footed 18, Fort +10, Ref +11, Will +12,

"Hmmph. Poog think we am going to have to kill Asha's litter mate. You think she am going to be mad about that? Poog no am wanting to fight her if he no has to. She am seeming to be useful."

Male Human Ninja 6 / Conjurer 6; Init. +6; Perception +11; AC 27/19 (+4 Dex., +1 Dodge feat, +2 natural armour, +2 Cat's Grace, +4 armour, +4 deflection); hp 71/94; Fort +9, Ref +12, Will +10

"If you try to kill him before she has another chance to lead him back to her pack, then yes, she will be angry," Simon says, his voice solemn. "As a matter of fact, she will probably kill you. If we see the boy again, try to restrain him or scare him off if you can, but do not try to kill him. Not unless Asha says to do it. It is... a thing of Blood."

Male Goblin Witch 12 HP 88/76, AC 21, touch 18, flat-footed 18, Fort +10, Ref +11, Will +12,

"This am very strange. In goblin tribe, when litter mate try to kill you, you try to kill them back. Winner am getting much praise. When it am chief and sibling, winner am becoming chief even. If Asha am killing him, maybe she am being chief of Golden League."

Male Human Ninja 6 / Conjurer 6; Init. +6; Perception +11; AC 27/19 (+4 Dex., +1 Dodge feat, +2 natural armour, +2 Cat's Grace, +4 armour, +4 deflection); hp 71/94; Fort +9, Ref +12, Will +10

"It is different with humans," Simon explains. "In some cultures, yes, the one who strikes down an enemy gains their possessions and power. But those are most often pre-arranged duels.

In most human societies, the ones who strike down their blood relatives heap only dishonour and shame on themselves. They are known as scum, creatures who can be trusted by none. It is our way. Family units grow strong within our society by having their members work together against all outside threats. To disrupt that unity is to endanger the whole unit.

Consider: if your tribe were at home, surrounded on all sides by traps and defences, well-supplied with food, and a brave warrior challenges the Chief, then that is fine. Whoever wins, the tribe still has a strong leader and it ideally only loses one member. Yes?
Now consider this: your tribe is on a raid, with enemies on all sides. Goblins are not famous for their great strategies, but they do have a certain command structure, yes? If some eager young Goblin stabs the Chief in the kidneys while he is fighting, all dissolves into chaos; the old leader is gone, the new leader is not yet known as such. The enemy is everywhere around, and the tribe runs the risk of being badly hurt."

Simon lets this thought sink in. "In many ways, a human family unit is constantly on a raid, constantly in danger from enemies all around. There must be unity, or the unit risks destruction. It happens more often than we would like. As a result, if one litter mate tries to kill another, there is shame and often banishment, if not more. However, that shame cuts both ways. Litter mates are taught from birth to work together, and not to harm one another. They are taught to try and resolve arguments and differences without bloodshed -- and most often, they try to keep their conflicts private. Outside interference is not appreciated, and an attack on a litter mate is all too often still seen, on the level of the Blood and the Bone, as an attack against the family unit. And that, my dear Goblin, is something which sparks terrible rage in most humans."

Male Goblin Witch 12 HP 88/76, AC 21, touch 18, flat-footed 18, Fort +10, Ref +11, Will +12,

"Hmph. That am silly. But if Asha's brother no attack Poog, Poog will no attack him. If he attacks Poog, though, Poog am going to teach him same lesson Poog taught last person to attack Poog."

With that the goblin begins tucking into his breakfast.

Male Human Ninja 6 / Conjurer 6; Init. +6; Perception +11; AC 27/19 (+4 Dex., +1 Dodge feat, +2 natural armour, +2 Cat's Grace, +4 armour, +4 deflection); hp 71/94; Fort +9, Ref +12, Will +10

"Restrain him, friend Poog," Simon says, his voice quiet but stern. "Restrain him or run him off. Do not kill him without Asha's say-so. You do not yet know the wrath that is unleashed among humans when someone kills a litter-mate who has not been completely rejected. You can not know it. Such wrath has scoured cities, countries... It is a wrath of madness and destruction fit to make demons tremble. Wait for Asha's say-so before you do more than restrain or frighten the boy. His current associates in the Golden League are fit for killing; save your killing blows for them."

Female Human (Vudrani) monk of the four winds 4 / paladin 8

When Asha comes down the stairs, she seems not at all stronger, although there is a stiffness in her movements and expression that is greatly at odds with her usual flowing grace. She joins Poog and Simon at their table, smiling quietly but keeping her thoughts to herself and saying little beyond a simple greeting and an order for rice, fish and vegetables to the servers.

Ready to move out, boss!

After catching a simple meal, you make your way to the Tournament grounds, and after the opening ceremonies are over, the Emissary calls forth your group. "The Five Elements have so far bested many," he says to the crowd, gesturing broadly to your group. "But so has their competitor. Hok Fung, present yourself!" The crowd cheers as a grotesquely fat Tian-Shu man waddles towards the ziggurat, a pot-bellied pig following in his wake. Though the day is not especially hot, he sweats profusely as he bows to the Emissary. "Both you and the Five Elements have overcome many obstacles to get to this point, but only one of you can move onto the fifth and final day of the Tournament. Which of you this will be will be determined in the fight stage. Take your places, and prepare for battle!" He sits upon his throne, and the crowd cheers for you both as you make your ways to the fight stage.

As you turn your attention to the fight stage itself, you see that the combat grounds have undergone a dramatic change overnight. Gone is the gritty dust that served as the sand that soaked up the blood of competitors. In its place is a morass of watery mud with five islands of stone jutting up from the swampy bog. The nearest to your side is just large enough to hold the five of you, but there is at least a ten foot gap to get from your island to the next nearest.

As per usual, you have a minute to cast any preparatory spells you wish. Hok Fung certainly is doing so.

Spellcraft DC 18:

You hear some familiar words indicating transmutative magics, and see that Hok Fong's massive body begins flickering. It looks like he's cast blink upon himself.

Female Human (Vudrani) monk of the four winds 4 / paladin 8

Out of curiosity, is he covered in leeches?

Male Human Ninja 6 / Conjurer 6; Init. +6; Perception +11; AC 27/19 (+4 Dex., +1 Dodge feat, +2 natural armour, +2 Cat's Grace, +4 armour, +4 deflection); hp 71/94; Fort +9, Ref +12, Will +10

Spellcraft 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30.

"He is casting a Blink spell," Simon says, his voice dour. "If you have magics to see the unseen, use them. If not that, then use magic to dispel his as soon as possible!"

The old man starts chanting his own spells right away, his movements becoming smoother and a protective shell forming around him.

"Suggest we take the pig-botherer from many angles," he adds. "He is a caster, so we must not stay bunched up. Move as soon as possible."

Simon casts Cat's Grace, Detect Magic, Mage Armour and See Invisibility.

HP 134/134; AC 25/14/24 Init+1, Perc+12; F+14,R+7,W+13

Zarina casts Fly, See Invisibility, resist Energy Electricity, Shield and Mage Armor. The last spell she casts for the group is Haste.

AC 29

Male Goblin Witch 12 HP 88/76, AC 21, touch 18, flat-footed 18, Fort +10, Ref +11, Will +12,

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (20) + 20 = 40

Poog holds off on casting any of his spells, waiting until the last minute before he quickly scratches a claw along the leg of each of his companions, beginning to chant in Goblin moments afterward.

Using fortune hex on Zarina and Zakarras, then Simon and Asha, then cackle to keep it going. Please remember that I can't use a move action while I cackle, so I don't know how long it'll last. The Zs' fortune ends the round after I stop cackling; Asha and Simon have two rounds.

Fortune hex:
The witch can grant a creature within 30 feet a bit of good luck for 2 rounds. The target can call upon this good luck once per round, allowing him to reroll any ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, taking the better result. He must decide to use this ability before the first roll is made. Once a creature has benefited from the fortune hex, it cannot benefit from it again for 24 hours.

I can use my standard action to try to break enchantment on the fat man if you want.

As a matter of fact, Asha, he does seem to be infested with them. That's certainly odd!

Human Fighter 9 / Horizon Walker 3 | init +12, per +16 | AC 28/18/22 | HP 90/109 | Fort +12, Reflex +12, Will +8 (+2) | CMB +14, CMD 32

Zak graces himself with flight and lowers his mask, thanks his companions for their spells, and readies to unstopper the silver urn slung over his shoulder.

Can Zak start 60' up in flight? And with the urn unstoppered so he's already in the smoke cloud?

No on both of those things, Zak. All contestants must be on the ground when the Emissary calls the fight to start, and the smoke would obscure the view to the crowd before the fight. You can do both once the fight begins in earnest.

Charming. Funny, he doesn't look Kaer Magan.

Asha flexes her shoulders, takes a couple of steps to stretch her legs, then sends her glaive spinning through a dazzling kata before bowing to the crowd. I come first with a rose, she thinks, murmuring a prayer to Shelyn, but shows no particular reaction to Simon's announcement about the other man's spell. She does nod an appreciative thanks to Zarina and Poog for their magics on her behalf.

No meaningful prep spells or buffing at the moment. Have I managed to get my hands on the potions of fly yet?

HP 134/134; AC 25/14/24 Init+1, Perc+12; F+14,R+7,W+13

Zarina is happy to cast whatever prep spells she has on Asha. Just type out what you want and Z will take care of it.

Female Human (Vudrani) monk of the four winds 4 / paladin 8

I think haste is the only thing I'd be looking for anyway, unless I don't have the potions, in which case fly might also be helpful.

Male Human Ninja 6 / Conjurer 6; Init. +6; Perception +11; AC 27/19 (+4 Dex., +1 Dodge feat, +2 natural armour, +2 Cat's Grace, +4 armour, +4 deflection); hp 71/94; Fort +9, Ref +12, Will +10

I can cast Fly on you, if you like.

Initiatives:
Asha: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Poog: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Simon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Zakarras: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Zarina: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Hok Fung: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

The potions were requested last night, so it won't be until a bit later today before your contact can bring them from the mainland to you. Simon and Zak, you guys are before Hok Fung. He is currently on the other side of the fight stage, approximately 70' away from you. You five are currently standing on a stone island with just barely enough space for you to stand on without toppling into the marsh, and there are two islands nearby, one to the south and one to the east. Both are about 10' away. The southern island is similarly sized to the one you are currently on, and only has a 5' gap to the eastern island. The eastern island is also the central point in the fight stage, and stretches roughly 30' north/south. There's a 5' gap to the northeast to another small island, and a 10' gap to the island that Hok Fung is currently on. That northeastern island also only has a 5' gap to the fifth and final island.

Round 1, init 22

Wanting to use Poog's hex benefit before the cackling stops, Zak flies upwards at an angle away from the platform and unleashes a single arrow at Hok Fung with deadly aim.

Fortune Hex Arrow: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26
Fortune Hex Arrow: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (9) + 18 = 27

Dmg: 1d8 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15

blink chance, high is good: 1d100 ⇒ 90

Male Human Ninja 6 / Conjurer 6; Init. +6; Perception +11; AC 27/19 (+4 Dex., +1 Dodge feat, +2 natural armour, +2 Cat's Grace, +4 armour, +4 deflection); hp 71/94; Fort +9, Ref +12, Will +10

Acrobatics 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (13) + 19 = 32.

Simon springs into action, leaping from the current island to the one to the south.

"A little taste as an entrée, sirrah!" he shouts. "Enjoy your feast! Sagittae magicae, omne erroe vacuae!"

Three darts of force go flying from the old man's hand towards Hok Fung.

Magic Missile for 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 4, 4) + 3 = 14 force damage.

Female Human (Vudrani) monk of the four winds 4 / paladin 8

Since I don't have a potion, could Simon have cast fly on me before the match began?

Zak and Simon both take to the air, though Simon's leap propels him to the southern island while Zak defies gravity's pull and takes to the skies again. They both launch missiles at the bloatmage, Zak with his arrows and Simon with force constructs. Both slam into the fat man, and blood gushes from his wounds. "Damn you!", he shrieks in a shrill voice that seems unnatural coming from his massively corpulent form. "First blood to you, but I'll not fall so easily!"

He then leaps into the air after Zak, though where Zak soars into the air, Hok Fung barely manages a lazy float. Still, he manages to achieve a height of 15', and begins casting a spell. The three Warriors still clustered on the original island and Zak begin to a strange disassociation from their bodies. Their limbs feel heavy and refuse to respond to their wills. He lets out a squeaking cackle as he grins maniacally. "Your wills are mine to command, Warriors! Hok Fung will reign supreme this day!"

Will save DC 25 or be affected by his mass hold person for what will effectively be 1 combat.

Human Fighter 9 / Horizon Walker 3 | init +12, per +16 | AC 28/18/22 | HP 90/109 | Fort +12, Reflex +12, Will +8 (+2) | CMB +14, CMD 32

Will Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Zak fights against the effect as his limbs go numb.

does the feat heroic defiance help here?

Absolutely, Zak. As a matter of fact, paralyzed is one of the conditions they list as an example in the feat description!

Female Human (Vudrani) monk of the four winds 4 / paladin 8

Hold person and its additional progressions allow a save every round to shake it off, sir GM - unless you're saying the combat's only going to be one round...

Will save vs enchantment, using fortune hex: better of 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24 or 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26

Asha raises an eyebrow, but the monk does not otherwise respond to Hok Fung's taunts.

What else I do depends on whether Simon cast the fly spell on me or not.

HP 134/134; AC 25/14/24 Init+1, Perc+12; F+14,R+7,W+13

Zarina will use the fortune hex as well

Will 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
Will, via Fortune 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28

Zarina howls as she springs into action, flying straight for the obese wizard.

Free action to activate rage and double move to enter melee range with the caster.

Male Human Ninja 6 / Conjurer 6; Init. +6; Perception +11; AC 27/19 (+4 Dex., +1 Dodge feat, +2 natural armour, +2 Cat's Grace, +4 armour, +4 deflection); hp 71/94; Fort +9, Ref +12, Will +10

Like I said, if you wanted it, Simon cast it on you. I just didn't get any confirmation. ^^ As far as I'm concerned, the Fly is yours.

"Someone, take out the pig if it's on the battlefield!" Simon shouts. "The four-legged one, not the Bloatmage!"

Female Human (Vudrani) monk of the four winds 4 / paladin 8
Simon Greer wrote:

I didn't want to waste the spell if I had potions instead; now that I know I don't have any potions, I did want the spell, but I need to make sure the GM's okay with that.

Male Goblin Witch 12 HP 88/76, AC 21, touch 18, flat-footed 18, Fort +10, Ref +11, Will +12,

Poog tries to snarl, but fail, as he feels his body freeze.

Willsave: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15

Can I still use supernatural abilities? I can't tell whether they involve physical actions or not, considering they don't provoke. Also, looking at Fortune, it looks like you can continue to use it once each round until it's gone -- I just can't use it again on you until tomorrow once it does finish. So keep using it.

That's perfectly fine, Asha - she knew that she didn't have the potions. And I said the duration of the spell was 1 combat because it technically lasts thirteen rounds, and I don't anticipate the combat lasting that long, one way or the other.

Female Human (Vudrani) monk of the four winds 4 / paladin 8

Asha lifts smoothly into the air, a broad smile appearing as she experiences flight once again. The smile does not disappear entirely, but it does fade some as she focuses on the battle again. Shifting her glaive into an attack posture, she darts through the space between her and the obese mage, swinging down to strike at his inconstant form.

Not sure if Zarina cut off my charge lane or not. If she didn't, then Asha charges and attacks; if she did, then Asha simply flies closer. (I don't know if ki pool can be spent to increase fly speeds or not...)

Charging with Power Attack, if available: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (10) + 19 = 29, damage 1d10 + 20 ⇒ (5) + 20 = 25 nonlethal plus 1d6 ⇒ 3 and dazzled, miss chance (high is good) 1d100 ⇒ 16.

Human Fighter 9 / Horizon Walker 3 | init +12, per +16 | AC 28/18/22 | HP 90/109 | Fort +12, Reflex +12, Will +8 (+2) | CMB +14, CMD 32

Round 2

Zak delays the onset of the numbness as draws upon Poog's hex to break free of the spell.

Will Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Will Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

Drifting upwards, he pulls the lid from the silver urn and vanishes in a cloud of smoke.

since Zak didn't save until the second round and the feat only delays the onset, then he is paralyzed next round, but free after that?

Male Human Ninja 6 / Conjurer 6; Init. +6; Perception +11; AC 27/19 (+4 Dex., +1 Dodge feat, +2 natural armour, +2 Cat's Grace, +4 armour, +4 deflection); hp 71/94; Fort +9, Ref +12, Will +10

Simon holds position while the others engage Hok Fung in mid-air and starts to chant, his arms crossed in front of his chest.

Simon starts casting Summon Monster II. Is Hok Fung's familiar on the battlefield?

Xinai is not, much as, I assume, It is not as well. And that's how I understand it as well, Zak; you'll be paralyzed for Rounds 3 and 4, and be active on the potential Round 5. As for ki pool, it says you can add 20 to your speed, and I would assume that works for any speed you've got, whether it's natural or magical in nature. As for your hexes, Poog, it'll have to be on a case-by-case basis. From what I've been able to figure out, you may only take purely mental actions while paralyzed. Since Asha can charge, did you want to as well, Zarina?

Both warrior women leap to the air as well, swiftly closing the distance to face Hok Fung directly. Asha strikes the man hard with the flat of her glaive's blade, and the crowd cheers as the strike connects, sending the bloatmage reeling.

Male Goblin Witch 12 HP 88/76, AC 21, touch 18, flat-footed 18, Fort +10, Ref +11, Will +12,

Yeah, I just can't tell in some cases. Anyway, it's a moot point, unless he moves closer. Looks like I'm not going to be doing much this fight. : (

HP 134/134; AC 25/14/24 Init+1, Perc+12; F+14,R+7,W+13

Zarina slices at the wizard at the end of her flight.

Claw Attack with Power Attack and rage and charge 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (10) + 19 = 29

Damage 1d6 + 18 ⇒ (6) + 18 = 24

Ac is 27 this round.

Actually, you did participate in a very big way, Poog - your fortune hex is what allowed most of the heavy hitters to shake off the hold person effect. This would be a much different fight if most of you failed the roll.

Male Human Ninja 6 / Conjurer 6; Init. +6; Perception +11; AC 27/19 (+4 Dex., +1 Dodge feat, +2 natural armour, +2 Cat's Grace, +4 armour, +4 deflection); hp 71/94; Fort +9, Ref +12, Will +10

Agreed.

HP 134/134; AC 25/14/24 Init+1, Perc+12; F+14,R+7,W+13

Yep, without the Fortune hex, Zarina would just be hanging out for at least the first round.

Male Goblin Witch 12 HP 88/76, AC 21, touch 18, flat-footed 18, Fort +10, Ref +11, Will +12,

Oh, yeah, I realize that, but can't do much else sadly.

Really, dice bot?
Willsave: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30

Poog continues to struggle against the spell. Can act on Round 5

Dang. You'd think I'd remember the spell effects I have on my own bad guys.

As the bloatmage recoils, his wince turns into a mischevious grin. "That would have hurt, had I been there!", he cries, mugging to the crowd. "But since I'm not, I'll have to get someone to do my dirty work for me." He floats away from both women, turning his attention towards Zarina. "You, dragon lady! Kill her! Rip her to shreds!" His shrill voice echoes in Zarina's mind and she feels him touch her mind, trying to crush her will. As Asha watches, his complexion goes from ruddy to pure scarlet, the whites of his eyes taking on a deep crimson color.

Hok Fung will take a five-foot float away, and cast dominate person on Zarina, using a blood point to recall the spell. Zarina, please make me a DC 23 Will save. And, with that, everyone else gets to go!

Male Goblin Witch 12 HP 88/76, AC 21, touch 18, flat-footed 18, Fort +10, Ref +11, Will +12,

Simon finishes his chant -- and a small air elemental spins into existence. Right on top of Hok Fung! Immediately, the elemental transforms into its whirlwind form, intent on sending the obnoxious Bloatmage for a good spin...

DC12 to avoid going for a whirl, Hok Fung!

"Zarina!" the old man shouts. "I would prefer for you not to do anything you shall regret! Time out!"

Simon throws something at Zarina -- something which explodes with a bang, releasing a cloud of smoke.

Expending one Ki point for a use of the Ninja trick Smoke Bomb. Ranged touch attack on Zarina to enshroud her in a cloud of smoke with a radius of 15 ft.: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14. I couldn't think of any other way to prevent Zarina from attacking, sorry. :-\ I need to start studying Dispel Magic twice every day...
