Indeed

Alchemy: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17

Tina feverishly hurries writing down the formula, her pen skittering over the paper as she sweats and bites her lips. She almost misses making a crucial symbol and thus runing the formula, but completes the page and wipes her sweaty brow.

Pant..pant. Okay, I managed to get them made.

Tina prepares an infusion of the lesser restoration, the small glowing vial is tucked away in soft cloth. She then purchases an antiplague for 50 gp. A high cost, but saving the life of Brienne is worth it.

Marnos, did you leave the others on your own, or are you playing out of sequence later on?

I assumed that we had split up. Anyone who would like to come with me is welcome, but if it makes it easier that we stick together, then assume it was posted out of turn and we all go together after Tina has cured the child.

F Human Alchemist 4 HP 31/31 Per+9 F7R6W3 AC16T12FF14 Init+2

Yea, after Tina gets the formula done, she heads right back to Brienne's house and administers the Lesser Restoration to heal her lost constitution.

We will assume for game purposes, that you all return to Korvosa together, Tina runs off to get the extract and start on it, while Marnos (and anyone that wants to tag along) head for the Grand Vault.

The Grand Vault of Abadar is a meticulously well-kept structure of white marble and bronze friezes. It stands in the heart of North Point and is the financial center of the city. In addition to a place of veneration and worship, it serves as the banking and currency center of the city. Beneath the temple lies a heavily guarded vault where the clergy's investments, as well as the assets of thousdands of citizens lies safely stored.

Approaching the main entrance, Marnos is greeted by an armored priest who looks at his attire with some disdain. "Yes, may I help you?".

"Ishani Dhatri, one of your acolytes, healed two of your brethren of a disease this morning. There is another case which may have this disease and we wondered if we could interview your brethren to see if there is a connection. I am sure I need not remind you that if it is an Epidemic, donations to Abadar would be substantially reduced unless we act swiftly. If it is nothing, no harm is done."

F Human Alchemist 4 HP 31/31 Per+9 F7R6W3 AC16T12FF14 Init+2

When Tina returns to Brienne, she urges her to take the extract of restoration.
Lesser Restore: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Tina notices her color improving but decides she needs more.
Now be a brave girl and take another, we're almos done. Tina mixes up her second extract of Lesser Restore.
Lesser Restore: 1d4 ⇒ 2

And now one more for luck! Tina takes out the antiplague and some mints to wash away the taste
If you drink a vial of this foul-tasting, milky tonic, you gain a +5 alchemical bonus on Fortitude saving throws against disease for the next hour. If already infected, you may also make two saving throws (without the +5 bonus) that day and use the better result.

Tina also does some care to help her overcome the disease
Hea+trait bonus: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12

Uh-oh.I...am so very sorry..

*cough cough* you can take 10 on those heal checks, Tina *cough cough*

Travigan scoffs as Marnos mentions lessened donations to the Grand Vault though whatever else he might have been ready to say is swallowed in a series of grumbles that get lost in his beard. He shuffles and mutters a bit to himself before at last speaking up, adding to Marnos' request, "We're jus' tryin' ta find out why folk're gettin' sick all o' a sudden wi' this nasty cough. The wee lass down by the riverfront is on 'er deathbed and we're hopin' we can stop any others from comin' down wi' it. If'n yer boys have it too, maybe we can narrow down the cause."

'There's nothing out of the ordinary. The children playing here aren't getting sick. There's no sign of infection in the water either. She didn't get sick from the environment." "Children, was there someone else here that day? An adult perhaps? Maybe they gave out food or candies. Anyone that Brienne spoke with at all."

Marnos and Travigan

The priest's eyes widen in alarm at your words, but he calms quickly and lowers his voice so as not be overheard by anyone else calling on the Bank.

"I believe you are quite mistaken gentlemen. There are no sick people here, nothing out of the ordinary at least. We take care of our own, and our flock. I have seen no cause for alarm, I can assure you. An outbreak would be bad for business; we wouldn't want that, now would we."

And with that he begins to usher you back to the great gaudy doors of the place.

@Brienne's

Tina's concoctions help restore the girl's pallor and a bit of her strength too but it treating the symptoms is not the same as a cure, and she remains bed-ridden fighting at the edges of survival.

Brienne squints as the sour antiplague is poured in her mouth. She tries to spit the gunk out, but Tina reassures her, and she swallows all of it, grasping the candied mints after to remove the bitter taste.

The girl doesn't seem to be getting much better, and in fact seems to be slowly diminishing despite the Restoration potions given earlier.

Despite Tina's Heal check and the antiplague giving the girl a +10 on her next saving throw she fails. The Lesser Restoration has stood up against any more ability damage today, but the girl has not improved and will face more serious trouble soon.

Brienne Fort Save vs Blood Veil: 1d20 - 4 + 10 ⇒ (3) - 4 + 10 = 9

The boys shake their heads vigorously as Crux asks them about any grown ups near the river bank. "Only us kids." says Rello glumly. "No one giving us anything, honest."

F Human Alchemist 4 HP 31/31 Per+9 F7R6W3 AC16T12FF14 Init+2

Tina slumps, she has no more ideas how to help her. Tucking the girl back under her blanket, Tina quietly heads back down and talks to her new friends quietly
I just don't know, I've tried all sorts of different extracts and antuplagues but it just won't go away. I'm afraid all I have done is buy her some time for us to determine what is going on.

Travigan huffs as the priest tries to shuffle them toward the door. "Well I have seen cause for alarm and a little girl's life is hangin' by thread while we're here flappin' our gums wi' you! And don't you try an' feed us some half-arsed line about a bleedin' plague not bein' good fer business. You lot would be rollin' in yer precious donations as more and more people came down wi' it and ye know it!" Travigan puts one meaty hand against the priest's chest, halting his advance. "Now. Unless yer wantin' me ta get good an' loud in front o' all yer coin-laden flock, then ye best get ta tellin' us any blessed thing ye know! If tha' little girl dies because ye're too slimy ta do the right thing, I'll be holdin' you personally responsible. Understand?"

Intimidate: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30

The priest looks quite put out as Travigan begins hollering at him. In a polite but firm voice he says "Bring me evidence sir, of a plague and I am certain we will react. One ill little girl does not make an outbreak of disease. A few brothers under the weather is not an epidemic, sir. It is my understanding that Brother Dhatri offered the girl in question healing and her family cannot pay the appropriate amount for a miracle. 'To each according to his means', says Abadar. We cannot offer charity to those who cannot pay their own way. It is simply not done, sir!"

He makes a hand motion, and a pair of crossbow and shield wielding paladins in shining white armor fall into line behind him.

"Now, I will thank you to be silent and not stir up any more hysteria than necessary over what amounts to nothing. Good day, sir! And Abadar bless your commerce!"

He turns on his heel, and strides off across the marbled floor, leaving you face to face with a pair of unsmiling brutes. One makes a slight head motion indicating it is time to leave.

"Bah! I'm not askin yer Coined-ness ta treat the girl or ta lift a gilded finger! Jus' tell us where an' how those two brothers o' yours got sick and we'll take it from there."

The priest of Abadar does not respond, only walks away, leaving the crew standing there with the armed guards.

Back at the Soldado House

Tina comes back downstairs to report her failure to cure the sick girl. Tayce, the mother, starts to cry openly. "I could borrow money from Vladimir. I could work a second job or something. I have to get the bankers here to heal her then. Nothing else will work, I can't lose my little girl."

Chagrined, Ishani Dhatri agrees. "I could come back tomorrow and perform a miracle to heal the girl, but as I said, Abadar requires payment for such. It is beyond this dear woman's current means. Much as I'd like to change the rules, my covenant is what it is. If I don't take a payment, Abadar will forsake me."

"BAH!" Travigan turns around and storms toward the exit, "Come'on Marnos! Leave 'em ta count their precious coin purses! If it were up to these money-grubbing, sticky-fingered trollops we'd haf ta pay just ta bleedin' breathe in here."

Travigan's ire intensifies the more he rants to Marnos as he bulls his way through the streets toward the Soldado's home. "Extortionists! That's all those gilded, coin-loving larks are: bleedin', mud-suckin' extortionists! It wouldn'a cost that frumpy, frock-wearin' rotgrub anything, NOT ONE BLOOMIN' THING, ta tell us how those other two fell ill. Gaah! Greedy, slimy..." the furious blacksmith trails off at this point into a colorful string of compound swears and expletives. And while Travigan is rather hot-tempered, this may seem to Marnos to be about more than the little girl struggling with a mysterious cough.

"Thank you for you time, little ones." Crux leaves. He goes looking for the others.

Dhatri wobbles is head in concern. "The expected rate for a spell to remove disease is 150gp for ABadar and a healthy tip for the priest. I will waive the tip in this situation, but must require the total amount in advance. I am sure you understand." His weak smile indicates he understands how uncomfortable this is.

"I couldn't ask you to pay for me," says Tayce vehemently. "I wil come up with the money. You have already done enough."

At 37.5gp each, you can buy a Remove Disease. That would be a bit more than Crux has presently.

F Human Alchemist 4 HP 31/31 Per+9 F7R6W3 AC16T12FF14 Init+2

Very well, that is agreeable.

The party reaches into their coin purses and comes up with enough to pay Ishani his "donation" so that the miracle can occur. Obligingly, the young Vudran priest slips the donation into his pocket. "I will return tomorrow and remedy the situation. You are to be commended for your charity, not something we Abadarians are known for. It is good to know some who operate for Good outside the Bank's rigid hierarchies. Perhaps I could call on you again, if I have a need?"

Dismayed beyond measure at your kindness, Tayce Soldado weeps openly, embracing each of you tightly. "I insist you stay for supper!" she announces brightly and rushes off to the kitchen to begin preparing the meal. Her cooking skill is amazing, and meal is by far the best you've had for some time.

The late night ride back to the city is made with full bellies and gladness that in the morning, the sick little girl will be made well.

Anything else you want before we end this day and move to the next one?

"Yer th' only one who can ask after us, Ishani," Travigan growls as the Abadarian takes his coin. "But so help me if'n you take this coin an' that wee girl suffers because ye wouldn't act sooner!" The dour blacksmith crosses his arms grumpily and frowns before waving Ishani to the door.

After the priest leaves, Travigan nods at Tayce's invitation, though he seems ambushed and fidgets awkwardly as she embraces him in a sudden hug. "Alright there, lass. Aye, yeah. Well o' course we mean ta help. Right. There we are. Ok, girl, ye can let me go now. Alright. Yes, yes yer welcome!" His wide-eyed look to his companions over Tayce's shoulder is obvious cry for help, but his face twists into a frown as the laugh rather than help. His next looks promises each of them 'I won't forget this, ye dirty stinkers!' before Tayce finally relinquishes her hold.

"Alright. There! Now tha' we can breathe again, ye'd mentioned supper?"

May not be 1000 gp, but getting little Brienne cured earns the group 200xp per player. This makes the new total 6903/10000 or about 23% to next level.

The Next Morning

Eating breakfast at your inn, you speak about the money-grubbing Abadarians, the poor, but very sweet Soldado family, and the frightened look on Travigan's face as he consoled the widow. As you start discussing plans for the day, a raggedly dressed orphan boy shows up at your table carrying a note.

The note, penned in very stylish and neat handwriting, appears to be from the sword-master Vencarlo Orsini. "I require your assistance on urgent business that may be of interest to us both. Please call on me at my Academy at your earliest convenience. I trust to your absolute discretion. Yours - V.O." it reads.

Fair to assume you head over to the Academy once everyone shares what they know about Orsini?

After the short hike across the bridge into Old Korvosa, the group finds the location of the famous Orsini Academy on Hillcrest Street, near the center of the old city. A sign hanging from the front door says "Classes Cancelled Today" and there seems to be no activity inside.

A few moments after you arrive, and even before you knock, a serious-looking Vencarlo appears and ushers you inside. He thanks you for responding to his cryptic note, and leads you down a hall and into a study, the windows of which are tightly shuttered and curtained.

"I have an important task for you," he begins in hushed tones, opening a sliding door into an adjoining apartment. The task becomes quite obvious when you see who is standing behind the door, the fugitive Trinia Sabor, the most wanted person in all the land!

Wearing simple traveling clothes, the alleged regicide holds a wide-brimmed rider's hat and a wig of long red hair. She appears both nervous and excited and smiles upon seeing the lot of you, "Sorry about the trouble I gave you in the Shingles a few days ago"

Vencarlo asks his guests to be seated -- he remains standing-- and speaks "You were all at the Queen's debacle, so I don't doubt you recognize this charming young woman. I had only just reached my home the night of Her Majesty's morbid gala when that rogue Blackjack and this startled woman arrived at my doorstep. The people's hero and I have had some dealings in the past, but still, it's been some years since I've seen the scoundrel. He was quick with his words, and soon swooped off -- doubtlessly to right some other festering wrong -- but not before entrusting Miss Sabor into my protection and care. Although I don't know Blackjack's motives or politics, I trust his judgement and have seen much right done by his blade. He says the girl is innocent of the crimes she's been accused of, and I'm more disposed to trust a hero of the city than the tantrums of some bloody-minded harlot playing at queen."

"The matter is simple: Korvosa is no longer safe for Miss Sabor. I've arranged for friends in Harse -- a couple of well-respected ranchers -- to take in our beautiful renegade until this whole 'assassination' foolishness blows over. Its the first leg of the journey where we find our problem, though. Both the Korvosan Guard and the Sable Company have been searching for the young lady tirelessly -- they've stopped by here three times so far, and each time I've only just barely been able to turn them away without inviting a search. My most reliable contacts have gone to ground in light of the recent uprisings, and Her Highness's considerable bounty for Trinia's capture makes the use of new agents inadvisable. Thus, after some time to let the trail cool, I turned to you resourceful lot, who come so highly spoken of by Field Marshal Kroft."

"Care to escort a lady home?" he asks with a wry smile.

retired

Travigan's eyes widen briefly before his face scrunches into a scowl as he turns to Vencarlo, "Kroft may 'ave said some nice things about us, but do I look like a smuggler to you? I'm a bleedin' blacksmith fer cryin' out loud! What is it ye expect me ta do with th' most wanted person in Korvosa? Stuff 'er inside me forge?!" The spirited man looks askance from Vencarlo to Trinia, then back to his allies as he shakes his head in bewilderment.

"We are not agents of the Law. We were employed temporarily as such, but are no longer. Even if we were, you say we have a duty to enforce the Law and the will of the court, but she has broken no Law, so where does that leave us? What do we do when the will of the court is at odds with the Law of Korvosa? and don't even get me started on the question of other laws! Do you honestly think the gods would endorse such stupidity? I am honour bound to follow the Laws of Erastil above and beyond any Law of Korvosa. This lady is guilty of no crime, how can we hand her over to certain death? or are you advocating that we be judge and executioner, too? That would certainly be against the Law of Korvosa."

Arcanist 1| AC 12 , FF 10 T 12| HP 7/7| Perception +1| Lvl 1 4/4, Cantrip at will

Crux maintains his calm. "So you would willingly defy the court, endangering yourself, your family, and your friends for the sake of a woman that you don't know at the word of a man you've met once? Is that what you are all committing to?"
