Fishery Fight – Round 2
26 Crux
20 Rodan
20 Viviana
18 Graxton
11 Kalvin
8 Giggles
Crux waves his fingers, and the greasy goo in the hall evaporates instantly.
Meanwhile, Rodan slides over and begins jamming the lock on the southern door, where the sound of scuffling has grown louder. "Who's out there? We're armed here." a voice calls out from behind the now-inoperable door.
Down to Viv, Graxton, and Kalvin before the bad guys go.
Graxton Soth
Graxton looks to Crux and smiles evily, "Thanks Crux, I do have a debt to be settled with Giggles", Graxton moves to the door...
Did the door open into the room where Giggles is now? Pretty sure it does...
...with his speed he charges the door hoping to burst it open with his bulk and weight. 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 2 + 2 = 24 Strength check to burst open the door, with charge, with all his weight behind it.
Kalvin Theordos
Kalvin, you the target has soft cover due to Graxton's position but he is also prone after falling in the grease. This gives the target a +8 on AC (or a -8 on your roll). This turns your hit above into a miss. Also, your token was up in a melee position, but no mention in your post and you'd have to deal with the Grease spot. I moved you back thinking it was an error.
Sorry I was thinking about moving up and fighting so I moved the token, but then I realized I would have to deal with the grease. So I changed my tactics and forgot to move my token. Also, I forgot the bad guy fell prone. Thanks.
Kalvin grips his longsword two-handed.
Rodan 'Sly' Grynne
Hissing under his breath in a harsh whisper, Rodan warns everyone; "The locks on these doors won't hold whoever is inside for very long, if they're determined to break out. We've got a half-a-minute at best to deal with the half-orc before we have more company coming at us from behind!"
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - round 2 - continued
Graxton slams into the door at full speed with all his ponderous weight behind it. The door gives easily, it's hinges and jamb having aged badly in the damp air of the fishery. The half-orc cleric finds himself on a catwalk overlooking a large production room of some kind. With his momemntum behind him, Graxton is in danger of toppling over the railing onto the floor below, to make matters worse, a small child of about 9 years old, is attempting to trip him using a long wooden paddle of some kind.
Trip Attack vs Charging: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (12) - 6 = 6
The paddle gets ripped out of the small child's hand and Graxton stumbles into the railing of the catwalk which groans dangerously, but manages to hold the cleric from a certain fall.
Viviana, you do not see the half-orc on the other side, but rather the arms and hands of a small child trying to trip the big cleric. You hold your fire. (I assume...)
Kalvin your more measured advance means you don't trip, but stop short when you see the child and the catwalk.
Room description: A few well-placed oil lamps illuminate this room, allowing you to see all through it's interior in dim light. The floor down below appears to be slick with a slime of seawater, seaweed, and fish guts and the air is thick with the accompanying scent. Wooden catwalks to the north and south allow access down into the sunkend western part of the fishery; the floor here is only 5 ft or so above the river's surface. An open bay to the south allows direct access to the sloppy, muddy water, while to the northwest stands an enormous ten-foot tall wooden vat, it's sides caked and waterproofed with tar. Inside is a foul-smelling mixture of chum, seawater, and who know what else. To the east are stacks of crates and barrels. Nearly two dozen small hammocks hang underneath the catwalks each with it's own blanket and pillow. Several are occupied by wide-eyed children, a few of the children are already out of the beds and milling around the floor and catwalks.
Graxton Soth
Ummm... not for sure who's turn it is...
Graxton looks at the child and knows he must make an impression, though the one that he needs now is quick truthful responses.
Intimidate 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
"I am not here to hurt you, but to save you from the wretch Lamm and Giggles the half-orc, DO NOT INTERFERE, where did Giggles get off to?" Graxton says with harsh emphesis on his words not touching the child but that greatsword is menacing with blood and fur on it, let alone a half-orc in armor.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 Perception check for anything threatening and that other half-orc.
Rodan 'Sly' Grynne
Back in the other room, Rodan has put away his thieves' tools and drawn his dueling sword again, torn between following Graxton and Kalvin through the open doorway, or remaining where he is and readying to gut whoever breaks down the other doors. He settles for taking a two-handed grip on his sword hilt, and backing off from the doors a short distance to see what happens in the next few seconds.
Delay action at the moment as it's unclear to me what would be Rodan's best move. He could try to follow Grax and Kal, but there isn't much more room where they are now. Besides I'm expecting the friendly folks locked inside those rooms to try breaking out any moment now...
DM DoctorEvil
sorry for the delay.I think it's actually Giggles turn...
Fishery Fight - Round 2 - concluded
Behind the child stands Giggles. The half-orc chortles in his strange way at some unheard joke. You see in the dim light a scar where one eye used to be. The villain shuffles backwards along the catwalk, shoving another child in the way of the oncoming heroes.
"Ya damn rats, slow down these brutes or I'll whip ya good. There'll be no dinner fer anyone who lays down now. Git up! Extra treats for stopping the bad men."
The children give the orc a hateful look but, using their long paddles as barriers, look to block your way. Graxton's threats do not seem to faze these urchins.
You found some Lambs, now where's Lamm? Rodan may or may not have someone bottled up in the south room, and just where is Giggles going? Find out in Round 3.
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight – Round 3
The sight of the little waifs tugs at your heartstrings, and the smell of dead fish makes your gorge rise, but you continue to fight on.
26 Crux
20 Rodan
20 Viviana
18 Graxton
11 Kalvin
8 Giggles
Top of the order means Crux
Viviana Altimari
|
"You kill those children and I'll bury you beside them," Viviana calls from the rear as she moves forward.
Calling out loudly, she berates them like a stern mother: "You know who the real bad men are here, and we're not them. We've come to take you away from this horrid place-- double extra treats to everyone who helps me and the other nice men! Be good children!"
If I can make a roll here, I'd like to try to diplomacy. If I can't, then I'm intimidating the children, if that's okay?
Diplomacy or Intimidate?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22... add one if it's intimidate
Rodan 'Sly' Grynne
"I agree with her this time - no dead children, Crux." says Rodan to the wizard in an even tone. "Some of us were those little Lamms once, willing or not."
Besides they're worth far more alive as child-slaves if we can find an Apis Consortium trader to buy them off us afterwards... uh, did I say that out aloud?
Graxton Soth
"Yup, I agree, the children must be saved, not killed." With that Graxton moves himself off the banister and through the door, closing it after him leaving the child behind him for now.
DM DoctorEvil
So, wait, you are leaving the workroom and going somewhere else? Curious.
Fishery Fight - Round 3 - concluded
Crux threatens the little Lambs, but he's quickly chastened by Rodan and Viviana. The Calistrian inquisitor calls to the children to behave or she'll spank them (that line might've worked on grown men) but seemingly has no effect on the Lambs or if it did she can't tell as Kalvin and Graxton retreat quickly, slamming the door again.
DD: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Disguise: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
In the room, there is a banging on the south door as whoever is behind tries to get out. The lock starts clicking as someone tries to unjam the lock, as Rodan watches the jamming pick is slides to the floor, and the lock clicks.
Then the doorknob turns, opening slowly. Standing in front is a sour-faced man with short blond hair. He holds a vial of some clear liquid in one hand, and a ebony wand in another. Near him, kneeling on the floor is a small dark haired child, lock pick tools in hand.
The man says with a wry smile, his voice high-pitched and whiny:"I'll give you one chance to get out of here, and then I'll start blasting you."
End of Round 3
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - round 4
A new threat holding a wand and a vial is in the room. Giggles is somewhere in your rear, and you still have no idea where Lamm is.
26 Crux
20 Rodan
20 Yargin
20 Viviana
18 Graxton
11 Kalvin
10 Child
8 Giggles
Crux sends a little shock of electricity at the caster, giving him a little jolt.
The man raises his wand, pointing it at Crux. He wiggles it a bit and a splash of green acid flies out at the deformed wizard, but misses him by a fair amount.
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Ranged Touch, Acid Splash: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Rodan and Viviana up next
Rodan 'Sly' Grynne
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
"Funny, I was going to say something similar to you..." retorts Rodan to the sour-faced man as he brings his sword around in a slashing attack.
Melee attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Dueling sword, two-handed grip: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Does using a wand provoke an attack of opportunity from Rodan (since he's adjacent) against the sour-faced man? I forget.
Edit; I just looked it up - no, it doesn't. :p
Graxton Soth
Graxton delays, listening to what is going on and waiting for Kalvin to act first.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 Perception Check
Viviana Altimari
|
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
"Huh," says Viviana, and shoots the gnome with her bow.
Bow attack!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Or the wall. Very similar targets. She glares at the arrow as if it's its fault and draws another.
Kalvin Theordos
Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Kalvin frowns at the attempted trick by the gnome.
"That's not a child, it's a cowardly gnome." he growls loudly enough for his companions to hear him. He then steps forward raises his longsword up over his head and brings it down aimed at the wand user's neck.
Power Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 I'm guessing this misses but if not.
Damage 1d8 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 3 = 12
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - Round 4 - continued
Rodan gets his first taste of combat, slashing his sword deep into the spellcaster's torso, a deep cut opening in the man who staggers, but doesn't fall.
Viviana recognizes the child in the south room is actually a gnome man in disguise and fires an arrow that misses high, quavering in the wall behind.
Kalvin's attack at the wand user misses by a hair's breadth from finishing him off and clangs off the floor instead.
Graxton you said delay until after Kalvin, so that means now...
Graxton Soth
Graxton moves back into the room where the rest of his party is. He does not see how he can get into the fight right now, so he just waits.
Moving to next round.
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - Round 4 - concluded
Graxton re-enters the front room, but the melee in place leaves him no room to squeeze in. He bides his time instead.
The child-disguised gnome is also stymied, looking for a melee opportunity. He settles for waving his curved blade and yelling obscenities.
End of round 4
Quite a battle now in the Fishery and no sign of Lamm. What will happen next?
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - Round 5
26 Crux
20 Rodan
20 Yargin
20 Viviana
18 Graxton
11 Kalvin
10 Hookshanks
8 Giggles
The bleeding caster still stands, the child turns out to be a foul-mouthed gnome instead. You know the little Lambs are about, but where is the big prize, Gaedren Lamm himself?
Crux and Rodan get us going in Round 5
Rodan 'Sly' Grynne
Melee attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Damage, dueling sword, two-handed grip: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Dispensing with any attempts at subtlety, Rodan draws his blade back and again slashes at the wand-wielding man's head. "Bugger these useless bastards. Kill 'em quick and let's find us a Lamm to roast."
Graxton Soth
"Hear, hear Rodan! Crux move if you can." Graxton exclaims.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Perception Check, Darn just short, not sure where those giggles are coming from, over that gnome's screeching. Graxton thinks.
Would that be the door that I just shut? That the giggles are coming from? Even if I don't get it it would be good reference to know for when he bursts from the door. :)
Crux
Eek! I didn't realize there was an enemy within melee range of me. Of course I'll move. I'll run as fast as my warped little legs will carry me. If the DM allows, I'll now move to a spot against the wall by the entry doors.
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - round 5 -continued
Crux retreats to the door of the Fishery and launches a sparking spell at the wand wielding man, but the arc of electricity fails to connect and harmlessly scorches the nearby doorway.
While the man is ducking the bolt of energy, he doesn't see Rodan's mighty slash coming, and the blade catches the man square in the face, cutting into his skull like a melon. Needless to say, the man falls in a heap.
Remember, that north is to the left, and east to the top on this map. (hey, I didn;'t draw it that way...) so the north doors are nearer Viviana, not Graxton. Need an action from Viv, Grax, and Kalvin next.
Graxton Soth
Graxton waits on Kalvin once more allowing the other to close in on the imminent quarry, he knows other threats may be around and beyond the other doors.
Viviana Altimari
|
"The adults are talking, dear," Viviana quips, and shoots at the gnome a second time.
Attack!: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
I pray that connects.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
She hears giggling-- but from where? On edge, she resumes her stance.
Kalvin Theordos
Kalvin steps forward raises his longsword high over his head and brings it down with righteous anger.
Power Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 Crit Threat
Confirm 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 Does not confirm lol
Damage 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
He shouts as he strikes "Begone foul gnome, trouble Korvosa no longer."
Graxton Soth
Readied action to charge the door if someone opens it, the one Graxton just left to the West and the water.
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - Round 5 - concluded
Seeing the wand-using man hacked to bits, Viviana adjusts targets back to the gnome. Her shot is true, but at the last moment glances off one of the metal studs of the gnome's studded leather.
Graxton hears faint giggling, but can't pinpoint the source, so he readies to spring at anyone opening the east door. But the door doesn't open...
Kalvin's inspired longsword cleaves a big wound in the gnome's shoulder and neck, with blood covering the well polished surface. Unfortunately, the shifty gnome twisted just enough for the strike to miss the jugular, but it's still enough to be a major wound.
The wounded villain responds with a counter-thrust at Kalvin with his curved blade, but the heroic paladin parries the blow to one side with panache.
Just then, the door in the North wall opens, and Giggles the half-orc has circled around and is in your rear. He threatens with his flail, but his movements have made his feet unsteady and blow never happens this round.
Gnome Blade: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Rodan 'Sly' Grynne
Unable to target the gnome effectively now that Kalvin has stepped into the doorway in the south wall, and happy to leave that fight in the paladin's apparently capable hands, Rodan turns as the door in the north wall opens and Giggles reappears. Shouting to Viviana, who is closest to that door - "Clear a path!" - he tumbles across the chamber, attempting to dive through the doorway, past the half-orc, and into the room beyond to get behind him.
Acrobatics, moving through an enemy's space: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Whoohoo! No attack-of-opportunity for Giggles, unless his CMD+5 is 27 or higher.
Landing on his feet on the other side of the doorway, the rogue spins and lunges at the thug's exposed back with his wicked sword.
Melee attack, dueling sword, flanking: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7
Unfortunately Rodan overbalances and his sword thrust misses Giggles by a wide margin...
Only questions now are whether Rodan's move away from the doorway in the south provoked an attack-of-opportunity from the gnome, and whether I've done the right thing according to the rules. I was kind of assuming that with Kalvin standing in the doorway neither the gnome or Rodan would be able to strike each other. Just in case you rule differently Doc, here's an Acrobatics check for leaving the gnome's threatened area;
Acrobatics, leaving enemy's threatened area: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Viviana Altimari
|
Bless... remember bless...
Viviana harrumphs at Rodan flying by her like a rocket. Moving away from Giggles, she turns and spins to fire an arrow at him as she retreats.
Five foot step! Shoot!
Attack of the bow kind!: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 25
Critical confirmation of the times three variety!: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 7 Fail!
Damage, with point blank shot: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - Round 6
The enemy caster lies bleeding on the floor of the fishery, Giggles is back for a flanking attack, and the gnome Hookshanks is still waving his curved blade around. Things are quite interesting in Korvosa tonight...
26 Crux
20 Rodan
20 Viviana
11 Kalvin
10 Graxton (delayed)
10 Hookshanks
8 Giggles
Need Crux to start us off. Have posts already from Rodan, Viv, and Kalvin. Grax is away, so DM-PC, means we can start and finish the round quick, once the deformed wizard posts. No pressure.
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - Round 6 - concluded
The wizard Crux continues sending arcs of electricity at his foes, and they continue missing targets.
Rodan rolls and ducks his way past the enemy, Giggles, in the doorway. As he passes, he chops at the ranger, but the blade sails past the raucous half-orc harmlessly.
The same cannot be said for the arrow of Viviana which sinks deeply into the chest of Giggles who stops laughing for a second to look down at the arrow, then starts in again.
Kalvin slices at the villainous gnome with a heavy attack, but the spry creature steps away lightly, sticking his kukri back at the young paladin and catching him between the plates of armor.
Gnome Kukri: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Kukri Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Need to retire for the evening, so the rest will have to keep until tomorrow.
Kalvin Theordos
I posted an attack yesterday, but I guess it didn't save
Kalvin attacks with intent to end the Gnome threat as quickly as possible.
Power Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 Crit Threat
Crit. Confirm 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 does not confirm lol.
Damage 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - Round 6 - concluded (for real)
Kalvin, your attack was posted, it was just a miss as indicated above. I'll use this roll for your next round though, cuz it's a good one.
Graxton steps in front of the laughing half-orc and turns to bash him with his greatsword while the target is distracted by the tumbling Rodan. The mighty blade pierces the confused orc warrior between the ribs, and exits out his backside. His giggles turning to a groan, the half-orc collapses.
Graxton Sword: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 2 = 22
Giggles Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 3) + 4 = 12
End of Round 6
Giggles is down, Rodan is in a room with who knows what. Kalvin has a moderately serious wound, but only one bad guy remains.
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - Round 7
The room Rodan has rolled into is also dark, but some light spills into it from the front room. The smell here, a mixture of sweat, seawater, and dead fish, is hideous enough to make the eyes water. A large wooden trough stands to the east, with bloody seawater spilling all around. A pair of wooden chutes lead from this trough to the big vat down below. A desk, chair, and cabinet stand in the west corner of the room.
26 Crux
20 Rodan
20 Viviana
11 Kalvin
10 Graxton
10 Hookshanks (wounded)
Like always Crux starts us. Will he use Jolt and miss again?
Rodan 'Sly' Grynne
Although his eyes water and his nose wrinkles from the stench, Rodan takes the time to make sure that Giggles isn't getting up again, and viciously thrusts his sword into the half-orc's throat...
Full-round action - Coup-de-grace; I don't trust half-orc NPCs to stay down thanks to the orc ferocity racial trait, and in any case Rodan learned his fighting style in the back streets of Korvosa, not a fencing salle.
DM DoctorEvil
Fishery Fight - Round 7 - continued
Watching the bad guys fall, and uncertain what to do next, Crux cedes the initiative to others, and watches as Rodan skewers the unconscious half-orc, putting the exclamation point on it's miserable death.
Count to Viviana then Kalvin who rolled above, and Grax who may still be DM-PC.
