DM Cuc |

Jasmine as you come up from below the decks with your days catch Master Scourge greets you
That all the rats Miss Princess was able to catch? That ain't enough for a days work you lazy piece of dirt! You will be getting 3 lashes with the whip for such a poor excuse for a days work!"
Jasmine your perception check you believe that you have caught every rat there is on the boat and that the boat has many rooms!

Holgur passes the day working on the lines and wondering how they get to be in such a state so quickly. Has the Wormwood been in battle recently? he wonders. It might also explain why the crew is short-handed.
Profession (sailor) and Perception checks to notice if the ship shows signs of recent damage.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Holgur |

Oy, I missed that
Climbing down to the deck feels like descending a mountain. Each step makes Holgur's limbs feel leaden. At the halfway point, the pirate realizes that he has spent the day in the hot sun engaged in toil without taking a break. When he reaches the deck he nearly falls from the rope, only catching his balance with some effort.

Mesdoram |

Pirate Task: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Cooking.
Fishguts: 1d100 ⇒ 18 Sober - no check needed.
Bluff: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 Influence Fishguts.
Since Ambrose is sober today, Mesdoram assists him in prepping the food for the crew, taking time to tell funny stories about getting thrown out of a tavern by Balthe, or exaggerating his heroism against dire rats.

Mesdoram |

She decides it's best to work diligently since there were eyes on her. Keeping close watch.
dex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Statistically I was bound to fail my checks eventually. To the whip I go.
Did you include the +4 bonus for working diligently during the day?

Mesdoram |

Nope...didn't realize I get a +4 bonus for working diligently, if so then I have a 13.
I mention it because it's the only way I survived that turtle hunting expedition. It makes it so it's almost impossible to fail your daily task if you don't want to influence, shop or explore during the day. Although I don't think you can take a perception check if you do work diligently as that's the "Sneak" daily option.

Four Skulls |

1d6 ⇒ 2
Rat Catcher. Day job action: work diligently.
Four Skulls is sent with Jasmine to catch rats. After a morning and afternoon at it he has a handfull of the pesky things dead and piled at a corner.
STR: 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 4 = 25
Bloody rats.

DM Cuc |

Jasmine we will pretend that conversation didnt happen :)
As you guys are standing eating your dinner and holding onto your rum, you all notice that Mr. Plugg, Master Scourge, and their lackey's are nowhere to be found. Thinking not much of it, you all continue to eat. You all soon notice that you see the other officers on the upper deck and you even see the captain, which is VERY rare after the work shift is over. You all get the sense something is up, however you all continue to eat. About half way through your meal, you start to hear chants and whistles coming from around the boat. Next you see Mr. Plugg, Master Scourge, their lackeys, and a large, muscular man, with a beard and a shaved head. You can still see bits of tar and feather on him (something you all learned was a cruel joke played on the man prior to you all joining by several of the crews men, including Mr. Plugg). The hulking man does not speak, he simply lets Mr. Plugg pull the metal chain that is attached to his metal collar. You guys have also learned that, usually Owlbear is only brought out when Mr. Plugg wants somebody taught a lesson or even possibly killed. As Mr. Plugg leads this large, brute towards you guys, the large man starts jumping up and down and dancing and laughing, which gets the whole crew pointing and laughing at him. Everybody can tell that this large man has a pretty simple mind and is probably not 100% there. Also you can tell that his large man is acting like a clown because it gets a rouse out of the other crewmembers and he thinks they are laughing with him.
Well, well we have the volunteers from Port Peril all together now don't we. And there is my dear friend Balthe, the big, bad bouncer. You are so tough with your hands, why don't you go man to man with my "pet" Owlbear. And to make it interesting I will throw in 100gp, if you can beat him. Unless you are too scared and would prefer to have one of your other friends do it for you.
The last insult to you Balthe gets the crowd laughing and aweing at you.
So what do you say Balthe
If you accept Balthe, give me a perception check.

Balthe Synder |

How about you keep the 100 gold and go a few rounds afterwards, once I get my bruises healed up, Plugg but if you are too scared of little old me I will take you gold? Or do you always let poor bullied souls like him do it for you?
DM I have taken to assuming that I wear my armor under my clothing since it is MW I figured that is possible

Balthe Synder |

1d20 ⇒ 16 perception
Balthe stands and
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 he slams down his rum and tosses the cup to a friend
So what are the rules? He says as he rises.

Mesdoram |

Mesdoram snatches the cup from the air and mentally makes a note to put a knife through Plugg's heart.
Just when I thought I couldn't hate these bastards more.

Jasmine Rose |

"Don't be so rash with offering that 100 gold back Balthe." Her cool, calculated comment reveals a bit of plan at work.
Jasmine looks around the crew to see if anyone is taking any betting action. If there is she will try to see the odds and get a piece of it.
diplo: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Balthe Synder |

Bah he isn't going to fight me so I will take his gold, and I will split it with OwlBear here

DM Cuc |

You are a lowly, pile of dirt, Balthe, I AM the FIRST MATE, after Owlbear destroys you, I will beat you with the cat-o-nine tails to put you in your place! You and Owlbear one on one, no interference and no magic. Anybody caught doing magic will dea lwith my nine tails. DO NOT disappointment me Owlbear, or YOU will regret it you big ogre
Mr. Plugg lets go of Owlbears chain and pushes him forward. Owlbear stumbles forward and shouts Fishmeat with a goofy look on his face, the rest of the crowd lets out a roar, and you can tell that Owlbear likes the reaction he gets out of the crew.
Balthe, you can tell fairly obviously that Owlbear is blind in his left eye, and moves very slowly which makes you fairly certain you can dodge most of his blows. (You can roll an Acrobatics Check or Bluff check and if you beat 10 then any blow from Owlbear misses you).
Balthe: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Owlbear: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Balthe, after each of your attacks could you please roll an Acrobatic or Bluff check. Since we arnt going to use a map, you can role play like you were really boxing, for example talk about moving around to his left. There is no attack of opportunities during this fight

DM Cuc |

The crowd starts to go crazy, as Balthe and Owlbear move towards each other. With each step, Owlbear shouts out nonsense words and phrases to get the crowd to laugh with (really its at) him as this seams to really please Owlbear.
Mr. Plugg and his croneys stand about 10 feet back from Owlbear watching carefully. Everybody can see the hatred in Mr. Plugg's eyes.

DM Cuc |

Jasmine you can tell that most of the crew members are throwing gold in and everybody has bet on Owlbear, it seems that the ones closest to you guys have decided not to bet, such as Rosie and Sandra.
You can hear over the crowd Grok yelling for Balthe to kick Owlbears ass.
Mesdoram: You have brought Fishguts to helpful (sorry that I forgot about that).

Jasmine Rose |

Jasmine will talk to one of the crew taking bets, "He's a huge beast you need to be giv'n 4 to 1 odds, that thing is obviously going to crush the newbie." She pauses, "That is if you want my gold...say 3 gold coin?"
diplo: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
add +1
Her silky voice dances in crewman's ears like sweet song. "You need someone foolish enough to take Balthe."
Basically if Balthe wins then the payout is 12 gold. If Owlbear wins the Jasmine owes 3 gold.

Balthe Synder |

Start counting your gold. And by the way Plugg, that is two
1d20 + 4 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 4 - 1 - 1 = 20 combat expertise to make AC 16 and power attack for 1d3 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 = 7
Balthe rushes forward and lands a hard jab on Owlbears chin.

Balthe Synder |

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 acro
sorry just reread the rules there, i was in a movie and was racing to catch up
Balthe quickly ducks under the return haymaker, Balthe dances to the left, trying to see if there is an open hatch that he can bullrush Owlbear into or something that might break

Balthe Synder |

Sorry bud Balthe says to Bear as he continues the fight
Balthe throws a hard left hook at Owlbears bad eye
1d20 + 4 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 1 - 1 = 13 which might hit for 1d3 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 = 7 non-lethal
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 Acro Balthe flips his arm up at the last minute and brushes the blow aside.

Mesdoram |

Mesdoram shoots Four Skulls a dirty look for a moment, then blends in by betting two gold on Balthe.
This is no way for an honest thief to live.

Holgur |

Oy,figured it would come to something like this. Holgur tries to accentuate the fatigue he suffers, in order to look less challenging to the other crew. After a quick look about, he sees Maheen the rigger and sharply says "Two gold to your four that Balthe lays out that monster."

Jasmine Rose |

"Oh...what the heck...let's see if I can get lucky with these coins too....same odds of course, doesn't really matter your stealing fom me anyway." Jasmine offers up Balthe's gold with a wicked smirk.

DM Cuc |

Balthe, you continue to pummel Owlbear with one punch after another. Despite Owlbears best effort, he is continually unable to hit hit you. Owlbear starts to swing, but you easily side step the hit. After you land another really hard hit, you can see Mr. Plugg getting angry.
No, hit, no more, me give up... Please leave me alone... cries Owlbear as he starts to back up (you can see the tears coming down his eyes at this point).
However, Mr. Plugg and Master Scourge push Owlbear back in Get in there you baby, or you will taste the cat AGAIN! Then be locked in the box!
Owlbear is visibily upset, and unsure of what to do, he obviously does not want to fight anymore...
Balthe, it is up to you to make the next move.

Balthe Synder |

I have beaten your man plugg this fight is over. Owlbear I won't hit you anymore.
Then raising his voice to a bellow
unless I am I beat an opponent that has yielded. Am I to kill him? Maim him? No I leave that to plugg, now pay up!
Balthe puts his hand on owlbears shoulder , but remains ready to fight, he helps him stand.

Mesdoram |

Mesdoram smiles as he collects his own additional gold. He's relieved Balthe didn't try to keep beating up Owlbear.
Do we all benefit from Jasmine's betting or are the rest of us at the 2 to 1 rate?

Holgur |

I forgot about Jasmine's better odds, so I figure that Holgur would have missed that too, especially in his fatigued state. (Stupid Fort Save!)
Holgur collects his four gold coins with a smirk. He wants to get under Maheen's skin but realizes that the day's efforts have left him in no shape to fight. But, the way things are shaping up, he knows that he will have to be ready to shed blood soon.
DM Cuc: when the game started I rolled a 15 on Knowledge (local) about Captain Harrigan. Would Holgur have ever heard about him. Holgur is a native of Ilizmagorti's port peril.

DM Cuc |

Holgur: All you would have known, is that is a captain that is currently on the rise, and is working towards becoming a Free Captain. He is known to be strict, will do whatever it takes to advance his goals, and he is not somebody anybody wants to cross.
Everybody can benefit from the 2 to 1 rate.
You, stop, you ,friend? Owlbear whispers at Balthe as Balthe puts his hand on Owlbears shoulder.
Mr. Plugg's face turns bright, red but before he can respond, Captain Harrigan, reappears, and starts clapping his hands.
Good job boy, Balthe is it? Good fight, might have to remember your name when we board a ship next time. Mr. Plugg, Master Scourge, dinner is ready in my cabin.
Mr. Plugg walks up slowly, to Owlbear and Balthe. This ISNT over. Mr. Plugg grabs Owlbear's chain and walks him, towards the Captain's cabin without another word. Mr. Plugg's cronies hurry themselves down the deck, seemly not wanting to get into any trouble.
Balthe, you receive 150gp.
Nobody has to worry about the rum. Everybody can now roll their night time action.

Jasmine Rose |

Did Jasmine benefit from the higher gambling rate of return given her diplo score?
Jasmine slaps Balthe on the back, "Good job" She hands him his coin from the bet. 'Looks like you made another friend with Owlbear but you further in the latrine with the First Mate."
diplo to chat up Caulky: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Holgur |

"Good job all the same" Holgur adds. "Looks like a lot of the crew were afraid of Owlbear. Now they will likely be afraid of you. This should make it easier to get some of them on our side."
"Course, Plugg will want to do something to save face. And he will want to do it soon."

Balthe Synder |

balthe quickly responds to Owlbear yes friend. Always friend.
Balthe gently squeeze the mans shoulder
Thank you captain Balthe says with the utmost respect
Balthe collects his coin
Then he splits the 150 amongst the party (5 of us so 30 gold each)

Mesdoram |

Mesdoram grins at Balthe stopping the fight against Owlbear and joins in the backslapping.
Ha, I knew you could do it! Anyone who can throw me out of a tavern has to be unstoppable.
In a much quieter voice he continues, Good man. I don't know where these Abyss-spawned "sailors" got their ideas about being a crew but it leaves a lot to be desired.
He nods at Holgur's words. Aye, it'll be a cold day in Dis when that man forgives us for making him and his look so foolish.
Bluff: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 I'll spend time trying to influence Topps who I think is friendly?
