How about Harrow Points, do we intend to use them? They look like a neat alternative to hero points...

Yeah, I guess we will.

There's a good trait for Runyon in there, the +2 to any Knowledge one.

Yeah! Saw that one. Hmmm...

I like how elves are not looked upon favorably. That's gonna make things fun with Run's personality. >:-D

Will we be using hero points and harrow points (as appropriate per character)? Melk doesn't really have much connection to the harrow deck or Varisians in general, so "fate" (i.e. hero) points work better for him.

And may I add: Bard (Detective) is a recommended character design.

Updated Melk with traits. He has

  • Chance Savior (+2 initiative)
  • Poverty-Stricken (+1 survival & class skill)

I am going to assume that I should roll for my animal companions HP? I will do so here, let me know if there is any special rule, but generally speaking they are not eligible for max hp, etc.

Ramon HP 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (3, 8) + 2 = 13

Right I think that is Wesh finished. Essentially his mother is a werewolf, his father having had her turned to save her life after she gave birth at a relatively old - for a medieval setting - age. She left, but still occasionally watched Wesh and helped him save Professor Lorrimer when he tried to speak with werewolves.

Male (he/him) Irish Physicist (Programmer Dedication) 5

I'll be finished for the day in an hour and ahalf, then I'm going to read the guid eand finish off Aydan.

What is Melk's attachment (Chance Savior) to the Professor? Perhaps Melk could have taken up in the remains of the prison (which, we might say burned only 10 years ago), which the Professor came to investigate?

We will be using Harrow Points.

Wesh looks great.

15 years would suit Melk a bit better. He's supposed to be 30 now - and the place should've burned down when he was a teenager.

Yes, Professor Lorrimor was a keen investigator of all manner of things - particularly the supernatural - so it isn't a big surprise that he followed up on rumors of restless spirits in the burnt Harrowstone prison. He got a bit more than he expected; fortunately for him Melk arrived in time before the Professor's soul was siphoned from him.

In case I did not mention it I've been using Romani gypsy names for Wesh, Marko, Ramon, but not his mum since she is a Kellid. Wesh means forest, Marko means war-like, Ramon mighty, and Theron is Hunter, so Forest Hunter, War-like Hunter and Mighty Hunter - because clearly Ramon is part of the family. :)

Male Human Barbarian 1

Okay, Aydan is done and done up.

I took the Teacher's Pet trait.

I applied it to Knowledge (dungeoneering), but truth is I'd like to have it apply to Disable Device? Would this be okay? It would make my ranks in that skill not a waste, as at current he can't hope to actually use it, but it really suits his character.

I also bought a harrow deck, because Aydan is proud of his heritage, and I personally have the Harrow Deck in RL!

How are we drawing cards? Roll a dice, with the removed cards removed from the possibility?

@Aydan Two thumbs up, though perhaps you could use a mention of how the Professor gave him tutoring lessons in Disable Device. (Perhaps it was the subject he had once had trouble with, until taught by the old man.)

I'll figure a system fro card draws.

I'm having kind of a tough time fitting any of the Campaign Traits into my background, so I'm thinking of coming up with a different way for Duron and the Professor to have met. I think part of this will depend on more info about the Prof that we don't have yet, but I'm thinking maybe Duron bought a really old history book about the Shining Crusade from him once and that the Professor had maybe studied the Crusade quite a bit and had come up with some theories on what became of Duron Avantara. Meeting Duron 900 years later he had his suspicions and has taken an interest in the elf. The Professor never let on his suspicions to Duron, but did get to know him and interviewed him about what he knew of his past. When Duron explained his short remembered history, the Professor became even more interested. Unfortunately the Prof has apparently passed away before revealing what he thinks he knows to Duron, but not before naming him in his will as he suspects great things from this particular elf.

How's that sound?

It sounds good - but it also sounds like a natural fit for "Subject of Study". Though the benefit doesn't make 100% sense.

Female Elf Alchemist 2

I have to re-read the Campaign Traits, but I'm hoping to just have Runyon be a former student that did well, and was hoping the Prof could help her get her nascent 'ghostbusting' business off the ground; the "former student making good on the professor's teachings" kind of thing.

So what kind of period are you anticipating between receiving the AP and feeling ready to run it DM Barcas? I am hoping, based on what has been said, that you get the PDF at least tomorrow...

I suppose I better try to get my hand in writing a surly teen.

Wesh could feel the people's eyes upon him, so many eyes, so many people! And there expression all sang of their contempt for Wesh Theron.

"What the hell are you staring at? Want to say something say it! Well! Well?!" He snarls glowering from one unfriendly face to another. And they turned away, as if he was some worthless dog s@$!ting in their fine street, dismissing him, because of how he dressed because of his racial heritage. "None of you would last a week in the wild." He muttered darkly kicking a stray rock.

"I'm here for the old man, not these s#&+s. Ramon get out here, none of these weasels are going to bother you. I need you to have my back. F$#*ing nest of vipers, it ain't natural all these people living on top of one another, probably too much for their brains. Bunch of gits."

What trait benefit do you want instead?

(assuming that's directed at me...)

Honestly I'm happy keeping Forlorn and Math Prodigy and just using that as a fluff story hook, unless I have to take a Campaign Trait to justify said fluff, in which case I will of course come up with something.

Male Human Barbarian 1

Haha. Wow. Wesh is going to be fun to deal with!

What skills do the party have covered?

At least a +5 bonus in:
Acrobatics (Melk)
Appraise (Runyon)
Craft (alchemy) (Runyon)
Craft (any) (Runyon)
Disable Device (Aydan)
Knowledge
-arcana (Duron, Runyon)
-dungeoneering (Duron)
-engineering (Runyon)
-history (Aydan, Duron)
-nature (Runyon)
-planes (Duron, Runyon)
-religion (Duron)
Linguistics (Duron)
Perception (Aydan, Melk, Runyon)
Sense Motive (Melk)
Spellcraft (Duron, Runyon)
Survival (Melk)

Don't know the others' skills, but we seem to be lacking in stealth and social skills. Aydan has a +4 on Diplomacy, but thats not really up to scratch. We've got knowledges well covered, excepting local.

Female Elf Alchemist 2

Run's UMD and Disable Device will both be getting serious love at level two; I'm building her out to be trapkiller/infernal device-destroyer, among other things.

Unfortunately she's not built to be terrifically socially capable. At the stereotype level she's an OCD and Asperger-y high-level-computer-science-major type. So she's not unfriendly or nuts or anything, just not particularly socially competent. She never saw the need, and being an Elf in Ustalav she never got much encouragement to be anyone's buddy.

Duron's eventually going to be picking up ranks in all Knowledge skills so we'll have local eventually. Maybe just have Aydan keep putting ranks in Diplomacy? Are there any traits that make it a class skill you could take?

EDIT: Nevermind I just realized it already is from Cosmopolitan. We should be fine with that.

Male Human Lion Shaman 1

Wesh has +6 K.Nature, +6 Perception, and +8 Survival. And Ramon has +7 in both acrobatic and stealth - mainly so he can get around to flank.

Male

Hi guys. I'm down with then infuensa right now, just mesured at 39.6°C, can't think straight. If you save me a seat I'm sure I'll get back before long but I'll understand if your eager to get started. Downloading players guide now.

Sovereign Court

Sorry to hear that Sigz, get well soon! Look at it this way though much better to be out now rather than when we are up and running. I am guessing it will be a day or two before DM Barcas gets the 1st AP installment and that it will take him some time to review it and plan.

I think the character would be more interesting when conceived with a fever!

Male Human Barbarian 1

Hmm. I don't get many feats, but its easy enough to stay competitive with damage as a twohanded fullBAB warrior.

I could pick up skill focus at 3rd level instead of power attack as well, and keep it at max ranks. Or I could move my 13 from wisdom to charisma. Or spread them out to 12/11, so that it goes up to 12 at 4th, so with full ranks I'll stay competitive in Diplomacy.

I like the idea of the barbarian as the party face! :p

I'd say move the 13 to Cha and call that good.

Male Human Barbarian 1

Okay!

Changes!
Wis 13 -> Cha 13

1 rank in Stealth -> 1 rank in Bluff (I'm still not great at it, but I have it.)

The Cha was actually my original plan for the character, but I figured it would be more useful to spot traps. I'm cool with this! With sigz playing a ranger he can cover all of the stealthy stuff.

Well, a bard (detective) gets big perception bonuses and can disarm magical traps.

Male Human Barbarian 1

I thought he was playing a ranger? An urban ranger specifically.

The game hasn't started - he *could* still become a bard ;D

Oh, regarding Melk's skill progression - I plan to keep max ranks in Acrobatics, Perception and Sense Motive; with the 4th skill point hopping between various story/utility skills as I go along (swim, climb, stealth, knowledge(?), diplomacy, sleight-of-hand, ride, and heal).

Possibly after Sense Motive reaches a high-ish value; I'll start using those skill ranks in other slots as well.

@DM Barcas:

How are you planning to handle the weapon qualities of improvised weapons? (brace, disarm, trip, reach, non-lethal) Does, for example, a flail in the hands of Melk become a 1d6 trip & disarm weapon?

What about a light shield? Would it count as a 1d4 improvised weapon that also provided a +1 shield bonus to AC?

Male

Catching up on my games, been sleeping for 16 hrs and feeling at least a bit better, will get to this in a bit.

I believe that if you want to use them as their intended use, the non-proficiency penalty will kick in.

So the archetype that can use anything as a weapon cannot use anything to trip, fight with reach, etc?

Ok, in keeping with earlyer discussion I'm going for a half-orc with Veiled Vileness as my first level feat and bullied as a trait.

And I'd like to go for the ranged bard (detective) with the Inspired by Greatness campaign trait unless ther's a group concensus otherwise, then I'll fluff him up an urban ranger.

I'm thinking the story goes along the lines of Azuk'ai's mother apearing in Ravengro 15 years ago on a stormy night on the verge of exhaustion with a hideously scarred baby in her arms. The scarring was obviously fresh, purposefull and deliberate, depicting claws, fangs, suns and moons (Sacred Tattoo racial trait). She told a tale of escaping an orcish raiding party wich was intent on sacrificing her babe and taking her as a slave. The truth runs along the lines of Azuk'ai actually beeing the result of her enslavement to an orc and his scarring was on account of him beeing the sole baby born in that inception. (According to Orc's of Golarion orcs are born in litters and when a single babe is born it is thought to have beaten and devoured it's siblings pre-birth and marked for greatness, thus he was tattooed and scarred right after birth. That and the fact that he was extreemly ugly by orc standard, smooth skined and tusk-less.)

So, Azuk'ai's mother, a half-elf named Maizalya, spun that tale to the locals and was taken in and nursed to health. She stayed, working as a midwife utilizing her elven affinity for life and nature to help in child-birth, and raised Azuk'ai as if he was half-elven with a human father who had died in that orc raid. (In saying that I'd like to exchange orc for elven as a starting language).

Gona go ahead and stat him up, see how he turns out.

@Azuk'ai:

I have no idea if this could fit into your character concept - but oddly enough, you could play a bard (detective & savage skald). Don't think there is tremendous mechanical incentive; but on the other hand it might create for a very unusual and compelling character.

Suspicious might be a better trait. Azuk'ai would have some rage issues as a child, very un-characteristic for an half-elf, and finally his mother would tell him the truth (about the age of 10) to encourage him to keep his temper. (what do you mean I'm an orc?) Resulting in Azuk'ai constantly struggling with trying to controll his impulses and looking at life differently, listening for meaning hidden in words and actions, noting who's where when and with whom and growing more withdrawn from the other children, which eventually led to him developing into a detective.

Oh crap. Bard's only get proficiancy with the short bow. Urban Ranger it is then.

As above exept his suspicious nature and affinity to hide led to him helping local authoroties on some ocations even before he was allowed to join the militia, evolving him into an urban ranger.

Have to rethink the campaign trait.

Subject of Study (Undead); Skulking the streets one night Azuk'ai ran upon a creature rumaging through what apeared to be some trash in an alley. Observing it for some time the creature came to notice him and Azuk'ai saw a ghoul chewing on the corpse of a bum. Furious at beeing interupted the ghoul whent after Azuk'ai who by some miraculous maner escaped it (Basicly running blindly through the night untill he made it to concecrated grounds) but not with out the ghoul clawing him once. It was accociated with his elven heritage that Azuk'ai had resisted the paralizes but he knew better, he had survived through sheer luck.
The event drew the good doctors attention and his warm fatherly manner warmed Azuk'ai to him and he actually ended up confiding his true heritage to him wich led to them keeping in touch and the doctor helping him out several times.

Unless Azuk'ai becomes a "real" half-elf. In which case getting bow proficiency comes for free in the form of Ancestral Arms.

@Lorekeeper
I thought about that but I rather like the idea of a half-orc. I've been looking for a chance to play them since they got pathfinderized going from crappy to playable.

Especially with the APG out and the alternate racial traits, every race got interesting actually. Plus a full bab char might be more needed than another arcane caster.

Okay true - and its not like the detective has Inspire Courage anyway (the primary thing of interest to a monk ;P)

Statting done, shoping and skills left.

Age 17, ht; 6'3'', wt; 210Ibs, Skin; Orange hued, Eyes; Pale grey, give a redish reflection in darkness, Hair; Black.
Tall and muscular he handles himself with grace uncomon for his size. His face is angular, his ears pointed and his head shaved of all hair. His maner and gaze all ooze confidence and subtle menance, like a predator eyeing prospective prey. His skin is riddled with old scars, white against his orange hued skin and his ears move with his facial expressions, twitching as he listens, dropping when he frowns and flattening against his skull when he grins.

Hmm, I think I just broke the description of Veiled Vileness wich says; You apear outwardly human, with no obvious signs of your orcish heritage (No disguise check required).

The red tinted eyes, orange skin and the moving ears are all orcish traits...

Looks good!

a thought @ Barcas:
Would you concider allowing orcs as a player race? I know it will require some work to power balance them with other races but after reading orcs of golarion I'd love to give it a spin.
