Fenna Thistleswade |

"The ability to do so is frightening," Fenna agrees with Kalev, before adding " but it is the willingness to show such a gross disregard for life that makes it truly terrifying."
Skimming through the pages of the journal, Fenna tilts her head slightly in thought, "This is written in Aklo, the language of dark fey," she confides in the others, "while I can certainly understand Tartuk's desire for his inner thoughts to be kept private from the other kobolds, it strikes me as a peculiar choice."

Did Tartuk's power seem to be derived from a Fey sorcerous bloodline?

Malthir Al Dagon |

makes sense for you to take them, they will be a 550gp treasure share since that is their sale value at Oleg's. Probably won't get to the treasure list or map tonight, going to do it tomorrow morning.
Fenna, I think we are waiting on you to confirm our next steps. Survey this hex then the temple, or go back right away?

Casimir |

Casimir votes to survey the hex and then return the bodies to the temple.
Regarding the loot - If we want to keep the wand, Cas can activate it with the use of Use Magic Device - but only on a roll of 14 or better. I doubt that I will use very often, with all the other options I have, but on the other hands, sometimes a magic missile is just the thing to bring down something that is difficult to hurt in any other way.

Did Tartuk's power seem to be derived from a Fey sorcerous bloodline?
Your not sure. He didn't ppenly use any powers from a Fey bloodline. His trickery and tactics reminded you more of battling a Gnome than anything else...
The journal is not particularily long if you wanted to read it before the exploration you certainly have time.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Yelena reads the journal.
Yelena doesn't speak Aklo ;), but i'll assume Fenna takes the time to read it.
Reading the journal, it seems Tartuk was once a Gnome illusionist of small renown. When his village was attacked by ogre's, he went out to try and negotiate joining them to betray his home, but was crushed by a club before he got his offer out.
Moved by his sacrifice, the village put up a ferocious defence and drove the giants away. The town voted unanimously to reincarnate Tartuk with a scroll that had been kept back in the town treasury- and to Tartuk's horror he came back as a kobold, his scales the same purple colour as his hair was as a Gnome. He fled the village, found a local kobold tribe and twisted and manipulated them to his will- driving them against his village. Tartuk was the only survivor of the battle that resulted, which was a perfect outcome for him.
Using his 'devil-statue' and a mixture of mundane and magical manipulation, Tartuk has driven two more kobold tribes to destruction since, and the Sootscales were to be his third victims. The ex-gnome is extremely bitter and depressed throughout the journal, and his only true friend was his familiar Ticktatter. A scroll of fly is tucked into the back of the journal, with a sidenote explaining how one day when he tires of it all he will fly as high as he can go on the scroll and let the magic wear itself out- killing himself in the process.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

I'm mostly going to hand-waive the survival rolls from now on on most hexes unless theres something in particular I want to check for. As I have removed some things from some hexes this will also speed up the exploration of them
1d100 ⇒ 29 Check while mapping
1d100 ⇒ 63 Hex crossing check
Spending the rest of the day in exploration, the group map the area and return to Jhod's temple- bearing the bodies of the two dead hunters. As the group return, Jhod moves to greet them, looking concerned at what may have come to pass...
25XP each, and you can unshroud the Tuskgutter hex Malthir.

Malthir Al Dagon |

Okay, I have updated the map, including fixing the location of the statue of Erastil. I have also uploaded the new treasure spreadsheet as of 10-19. Bottom line each person gets 771.65 gold pieces once we are able to trade and or sell the items. The party treasury is bursting at the seems at 2621.11gp so I suggest we buy the items I listed in the OOC discussion thread and we will still have plenty of gold left over. Feel free to add any additional items we may want to purchase to that list on the OOC thread.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Your aware your at Jhod's temple not Oleg's right? And the priest is looking at you expectantly to explain the two dead bodies. Just an fyi :). Please provide a list of what you wish to sell and buy in the ooc thread- some items may simply be too valuable for Oleg to handle, buy or sell. The cold iron sickle will be among them.

Fenna Thistleswade |

Fenna looks towards Jhod gravely and skips a greeting to explain the unfortunate circumstances of the visit, "We found these two boys while exploring the forest a little south west of here," she says quietly, "we found Kern with his throat slit in a terrible act of cowardice, and tracked down his murderer to a cave where the beast had laid out the other young man's body to lure us into a trap. Fortunately, we where able to bring him to justice, and he has paid for his grievous crimes with his life."
Glancing back at the bodies once more, she continues in her muted tone, "From what I recall of our discussions at Oleg's trading post, they where both devotees of Erastil, so we brought them here so that you might perform the necessary rites to send them to their rest."

For items like the cold iron sickle, can Oleg use his contacts in Restov to try and commission the sale there, though it might take a longer period of time? Or do we need to hold onto it until we can grow our kingdom large enough to be able to use it as part of a sale item? Right now it isn't much use to us. Yelena are you taking the bracers or armor or are we selling them? Are there any other items that Oleg can't handle? Anyone want the cloak of resistance? It is a pretty useful item.
At the temple, Malthir doesn' have much to say to Jhod initially. He expresses his sorrow at the loss of the two men and gives Jhod some more details about the killer and the backstory.
later that night he takes Jhod aside for a walk near the temple grounds,
Before it gets too dark he seeks Kressle to talk to her more about things in general and before she becomes "busy" with Casimir. He also inquires about Karina and how she is doing at the temple and if she is happy here.

Casimir |

As stated previously, Cas would like to claim Breeg's MW handaxe as a gift to Kressle. And he can hold on to the wand of magic missile, if the group wants to keep it, but he is not interested in paying for it out of his own share.
I think Kalev should get first dips on the cloak of resistance, since he has not had a chance to get as many items as the rest of us.

Kalev Lehola |

I'd definitely not mind getting the cloak, as better saves would help me against the like of Tartuk in the future. I say we keep the cold iron sickle for now, unless some of you already have cold iron weapons...never know, when one might come in handy.
At the temple of Erastil, Kalev mostly keeps to himself, slowly walking the place and taking it in through all his senses. Often he's also found sitting in silence, as if contemplating something.

I am glad you were able to avenge them- thankyou Priestess, Guardians. Make yourself at home here, you must be exhausted from your travels. Karina is preparing an evening meal with her sister and of course you may join us.
I have lectures today and then my RL KM game so won't be able to update for some time. Probably best to assume you will be spending the night here and to assume you reach Oleg's by mid-afternoon tomorrow. As for the item's, anything with a base value of 1,200GP or more is really beyond Oleg's ability to handle- you'll have opportunities to sell items either for BP or for GP in the downtime between chapter 1 and 2- assuming you increase the base value of one of your cities high enough.
Malthir i'll respond to your private chat later too.

Jhod Kavken aka DM AK |

I have a bit of time before my next lecture so i'll post Jhod's reply to Malthir.
The Guardians are made welcome in the temple. The debris on the grounds has now mostly been cleared, and work has begun on cleaning the temple front and restoring the steps leading up to it. Karina, Kressle and a few of the workers take the time to greet you fondly, asking after your travels. As the strongest in the camp, Kressle is thoroughly exhausted from the heavy lifting she is doing, but she seems to be very satisfied with her work. Karina seems to have been appointed as Jhod's personal assistant, acting as a supervisor and taking notes wherever she goes.
Restoring this temple is my divine mandate from Erastil, I can feel it. Of course you shall have my full support should you found a kingdom here- and I will serve in nany capacity you assign me- though my strengths are as a clergyman. This site could be a fine location for a city too you know...

I will remove the sickle and put it in the party treasury for the moment and add in the scroll of fly. Just take out the gold for any items you pick up, new treasure sheet should be up shortly.

Kalev Lehola |

Adding to previous posted activities, based on last post from Alex
While at the temple, besides quiet spells of contemplation, Kalev also gives a hand with the restoration and rebuilding of the place, lending his significant strenght to moving slaps of stone for the stairs and similar tasks.

Once we get back to Oleg's going to order/get Yelena to make the following items, 2 potions of Bless from Bokken, 5 tanglefoot bags so everyone has one, 5 antitoxins so everyone has one, order 3 scrolls of share language from Oleg, it is a Bard 1 spell that Casimir can use from APG. That still leaves us with 1925gp in the party treasury. Any concerns? Do we need to order anything else?
EDIT: New treasure sheet uploaded, total reduced to 410gp each. So in order to pick up any of the 550gp items, you would need to reduce you personal treaure total by that amount. My vote is to sell the wand, the DC is too hard for you to use right now so it has little or no use to us.

Just to make sure I understand. If I want the cloak of resistance, I have to "pay" the sell value or the full value?

Malthir Al Dagon |

DM, since we're taking a breather, should we just hand-wave the item creation process?
Does anyone else need potions or alchemical items? All prices are posted in my profile.
Otherwise, Yelena is going to sit on her share of the money for now and is ready to head out again.
I could use another potion of protection from evil. I used mine in the last combat. Alex said we could cast for items for each other so Fenna can supply the spell. Everyone okay going back to Oleg's for a few days to get these items before coninuing to explore the area SE of Oleg's and get all of the hex's north of the river explored? I wouldn't mind getting in a few days on my full plate armor as well. I could start teaching Kalev some basics.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Heading back to the trading post next works.
Would Oleg be able to order sufficient quantities of mithril for an agile breastplate to be eventually crafted?
Yes.
Yelena- Yes assuming you are spending a few days at Oleg's (it sounds like it).
Work out how many days your taking out and the various checks you need to make- you get to Oleg's safely the day after arriving at the temple. Items ordered will take one week to arrive.

Sounds like Fenna can order her armor materials. Yelena, you are making 5 tanglefoot bags, 5 antitoxins, potion of protection from evil with Fenna. Ordering mithral for breastplate, ordering the 3 scrolls of share language. Ordering 2 potions of bless from Bokken the day we arrive at Oleg's. Who wants to hold onto the potion of cure light wounds we found, I have healing as does Casimir and Fenna. I guess Yelena, the potion is yours if you want it. If we stay a week I would think we are safe to get everything except for the Breastplate completed. Yelena, can you fail any of the items if you take a 10? I would doubt it with your skill.

Casimir |

At the Temple, Casimir lets Malthir and Fenna talk to Jhod about the bodies, and instead goes straight to seek out Kressle. He helps out a bit with the work before the two of the have a chance to slip off in private.
Here, he presents her with Breeg's axe.
The previous owner of this axe liked to hurt things for fun. Hopefully, you can put it to better use, my dear.

I think I understand. I'm to use it to hurt bad people for fun, like the Guardians of the Greenbelt do yes? she said, grinning and embracing Casimir. I have a present for you too... she whispered into Casimir's ear...

On a more serious note... My understanding of your plans are- back to Oleg's the day after you get to the temple, to spend a week there to allow ordered goods to arrive, and then exploring the eastern side of the unexplored hexes below you. Can a couple of you confirm I have this right please.

Yep, that's the plan.

Apologies for the slow update, uni's kicking my ass. My RL KM group has disbanded though so I should have a bit more time. Also, apologies for glossing over the RP a little bit in the last couple of hundred posts- I am keen to get this chapter under our belt so we can progress to chapter 2.
*Waves Hand-Waive Wand*
The Guardians return to Oleg's, bearing bad news about two local hunters. The small community around the trading post is sad at the news, but it does not disrupt life for long. These are dangerous times, and the Greenbelt an exceptionally dangerous place. The Guardians are met with all the regular warmth and camaraderie they have come to expect from the trading post regulars- and enjoy a hearty meal as Casimir spins the tale of Tartuk's final defeat at the hands of the Guardians; this is met by a roar of approval that at least Kurn and his companion's deaths were avenged. A toast is also made in Kalev's honour for slaying a powerful undead abomination in a single mighty blow.
Mikmek has managed to find himself a ridiculously ostentatious purple hat, and regularily addresses the regulars at the trading post about kobold life and his hopes for greater co-operations and trade between his race and the kingdom that 'his mistress Yelena and her companions' will be building. His addresses are always humorous (often unintentionally so) and very popular with the locals, who enjoy learning about the strange draconic race and their peculiar habits. In between giving speeches and showing off his battle scars, Mikmek helps Svetlana to spice her dishes, seemingly possessing a very keen sense of smell. The little kobold is delighted to see Yelena return safely, and eagerly hugs her legs, beaming up at her in joy at her safe return.
Over the course of a week, the Guardians make various preparations for their next expedition; buying and selling and crafting items for the struggle ahead. Towards the end of the week, Vaysh approaches the group. Up until this point the Sorceress has been keeping herself scarce and only exchanged token greetings with the Guardians, but this time she seems sure of herself and less awkward.
Dear companions... she begins. As you are aware, I have lost all taste for adventuring and taking life, even in the case of creatures whose evil is assured. I would however, like to remain active in the council and governing of the kingdom you will hopefully be founding here. I offer my services as an advisor, diplomat and counsellor to you, and will serve in any capacity that you see fit. I hope to be able to work with the common people and bring their concerns to the higher circles of society.

Malthir studies her for a moment and then looks around to make sure it is only her and the Guardians that can hear this conversation before speaking up, almost sounding a little sad as he does,
Vaysh, I have two questions for you before I feel we can consider your request. First, now that you have been here for a while and not a Guardian, what do you want from your life here? We need to know what motivates the people who will help us form a colony.Second, can you stay here and serve the people here even if you find out that your father is not alive? Service and sacrifice are part of the GreenBelt, and we need to know that those who will serve with us are up to the task? Can you understand why we must ask these questions?
One thing that Malthir is trying to determine is how real this new found confidence and determination is, sense motive 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Malthir gets the impression Vaysh is sincere and has thought about this carefully for some time.
I want this place to be safe for all the people who live here. I want to live in and help build a prosperous land where all can live safely. That may be a naiive dream, but at least I can work towards it.
Vaysh bites her lip as her father is mentioned. I will want permission to pursue any leads that are found on my father, but not to the detriment of my duties. Even if he has perished here, I cannot return home now and allow others to suffer when I could be helping, even if its not helping by slaying the region's threats. I have thought long and hard on this Malthir. I am committed.

Malthir Al Dagon |

It gladdens my heart to hear it. I worried that you would leave us, maybe thinking you had failed at what you helped us start here. I think you would make a fine champion of the people Vaysh.
Malthir, suddenly looking to her and his friends to see their reaction, turns a little red at his obvious concern and compliments to Vaysh.
Alex, I will spend most of the week working on my full plate armor. I figure that will put me about 1 1/2 weeks into it. 4 more weeks of work to go!

Fenna Thistleswade |

Fenna smiles softly as she watches the exchange between Malthir and Vaysh, "We would be glad to have you help us in any way you feel able. I have truly missed your presence among us, and would welcome such a chance to work with you again."
