Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
Tanrov is against the wall of a building being shot at and waiting for his go so he can deliver hammer time
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
Tanrov moves to a point where he can attack the crossbow wielding Tiefling on ground floor AC 19
Earthbreaker: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 92d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
DM Dickie
For now I'm going to assume Mimazaran stays in the shadows. I knew I'd lose one or two over time, but bleh!
Round 4 Recap
Tieflings - Fired crossbows at Tanrov.
Tanrov - Attacks a tiefling, but misses.
Garidan - Casts shield on his way out the door.
Mimazaran - Keeps up with the rest, sticking to the shadows.
Rurik - Swaps weapons and moves to follow.
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
Assuming it's my go
Tanrov examines his opponents stance and style checking for weaknesses and when he thinks he has an opening he attacks.
Earthbreaker+st: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 252d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 4) + 7 = 12
DM Dickie
So have we totally lost Mim and Rurik too now? Hard to come up with a justification to toss some new folks in during this raid, but I may end up having Penumbra and/or Arael arrive to back you guys up. For now, I'm going to wait until later today before botting them, just in case. With the holidays and finals going on, and the weather changing so folks getting sick, it isn't a surprise there are some delays.
Rurik Voralius
I guess I can fire my crossbow at the guy that Tanrov is fighting?
I have to admit, I'm completely confused. I thought we were trying to get into one of these buildings. But now we aren't? Instead we're having a fight in the street? But there are people in the cellars or tunnels below one of the buildings? I am honestly not sure what is going on.
DM Dickie
That's a pretty accurate assessment, actually. The temple at the south end of the map is where the HQ is supposed to be. You guys had been making an approach from cover when you heard noise in the nearby building. After Tanrov broke down the door, guards stationed in another building engaged you with crossbows. There is some sort of tunnel beneath the first house. The tiefling outside the other house is down, but there is another in an upstairs window. He has cover, but has been firing down at you.
Rurik Voralius
Ok, so I'm unlikely to hit, but I might as well take a shot.
Rurik crouches slightly and lets fly a bolt at the tiefling who's been taking potshots at the team.
Rurik: Crossbow attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10 (Took a -4 for cover, adjust as needed)
DM Dickie
In front of Tanrov, a tiefling comes out the door, rapier in hand. From the temple's tower, a bell begins to ring out.
Mimazaran
What part of "I'm busier than usual" can you not comprehend? I realize it's a good assumption, but I'm getting miffed that you always assume that I've dropped. I haven't, and don't plan to. My days are just filled with work, research, and shopping right now.
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
Well it doesn't take that long to log on and just make a post, GM is assuming your gone because well your not showing any different, post in discussion saying lurking or still here
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Tanrov studies the new target that has presented himself and gives a short but powerful chop with his Earthbreaker
Earthbreaker+st: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 192d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 6) + 7 = 19
Between swings and maneuvers Tanrov says
"Two tieflings are trying to remain in the shadows behind a building just south of us"
Rurik Voralius
Rurik hunches down and reloads his crossbow, then launches another bolt at the tiefling fighting against Tanrov.
Rurik: Crossbow attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4 (-4 for firing into melee without Precise Shot)
EDIT: Since Tanrov wrecked house on that guy, presumably this is fired at someone else (if visible), but the low roll means it probably doesn't matter. :)
DM Dickie
Garidan hears a great deal of noise from the building he is adjacent to. Shouting followed by a loud bang.
Feel free to 'suspend' spell/ability durations temporarily, but consider yourselves temporarily out of combat. In other words, don't count the next few posts against your time remaining. I need everyone to decide if they're going to rush the temple doors, continue searching building-to-building, or whatever other ideas you come up with. I've reduced the opposition to a degree that should be balanced.
Rurik Voralius
"Ready when you are!" Rurik says quietly but aggressively as he moves up next to Garidan, pointing his crossbow toward the door.
Following Garidan, readying to fire crossbow at an enemy target!
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
Tanrov moves closer to the door than the other two ready to bash the door or something that comes through it
DM Dickie
This door is finely made and built of a rich red-brown wood. Carved onto the surface is a nearly full-size picture of a man holding a piece of wood in one hand and a carving tool in the other; the end of the piece of wood is starting to resemble the front part of a horse. Also cut into the door is a young child looking up eagerly at the emerging horse the man is carving.
No one exits when you round the building and face the door. In the distance, the chiming of the old bell has stopped.
I moved you guys to around the south side of the current structure, where the door is located.
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
Thanks I was a little lost
Tanrov notices how injured he feels and casts cure light wounds
clw: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
And then if he has time he'll smash the door
Earthbreaker: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 242d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 6 = 12
DM Dickie
The door probably would have withstood Tanrov's attacks in better days, however neglect and rusted hinges cause the frame to shatter and the heavy wood to fall inward with a loud bang. The building inside is relatively clean and the table in the main room holds some dirty dishes and wine goblets. A smell of sweat and lust fills the air. A door to a closet to the west lies ajar. Beyond can be seen a rough-cut hole in the floor.
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
Tanrov moves into the room and looks down the hole
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
"Lets go"
Tanrov waits for the others then heads down the stairs into the tunnel
DM Dickie
New, not-ugly map available.
This looks to be some kind of barracks; several simple bunk beds take up space in the corners of the room. A buff tiefling with clawed hands is facing the door and growling.
Rurik Voralius
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Rurik moves up behind Tanrov, looking for an opportunity to slide into a position where he can support with his crossbow.
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
ac 19 atm and fails to see anything
DM Dickie
"They're here!" the clawed tiefling shouts, "Boss? Should I tear them to shreds?"
From the northern passage, two other tieflings rush into view. One, armed with a short sword, takes a position southeast of the clawed one and strikes a defensive posture. The other utters an incantation and points at Tanrov. A bolt of arcane energy smacks into Tanrov.
MM Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
if it's my go
Tanrov moves forward and smacks the closest tiefling
Earthbreaker: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 192d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
DM Dickie
Tanrov's weapon crumples the tiefling sorcerer in a single blow, however, no one noticed the two rogues hiding in the shadows. The pair rush Tanrov with practiced timing.
Melee w/flank and partial charge: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Melee w/flank and partial charge: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Damage w/sneak: 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (6) = 9
One of the rogues stumbles and misses his attack by a wide mile while the other strikes true, sinking his short sword deep into Tanrov's abdomen.
They'd been holding actions in case someone came in from that tunnel, so Garidan and Rurik can still react before the rest of the Tieflings take their actions. You guys happened to go through the entrance closest to the heart of things, so provided you survive, the Bastards are likely to be finished in short order.
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
Tanrov.. roars in pain when he is slashed and then realising the extent of the injury attempts to press against it while maintaining a defensive posture
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt
No Ruurik? Howabout botting him gm?
Rurik Voralius
I'm still here, did another round pass?
* grumble grumble * Trying to figure out the order here...
Rurik reflexively triggers his crossbow at one of the rogues as they surround Tanrov.
Rurik: Crossbow attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13 (Firing into melee without precise shot)
Rurik: Crossbow damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1 (if it hits)
DM Dickie
Sorry about the lack of turn order, things went off the rails enough that I hadn't been doing the round recaps and such. Right now it is a "you and them" situation. So I'll be resolving player actions in this post, then putting up the Bastard's actions following that.
Rurik's shot hits the wall next to Tanrov's head and Garidan's weapon flashes out, providing some cover to the inquisitor.
DM Dickie
The clawed one charges at Tanrov recklessly, trying to slash at his face.
Melee w/charge: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
The two rogues try to press the attack, smelling blood and sensing weakness.
Melee w/flank: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Melee w/flank: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Both of the flankers miss thanks to Garidan's efforts.
The other rogue shouts out, "I will get the dogs! Once the big one is done they can chase down the others!" He squeezes behind the clawed tiefling, but leaves his back exposed to Tanrov as he goes by.
You can attempt an AoO on that one after he leaves a threatened square.
Chanting can be heard in the chamber, coming from nowhere. A black and red mace emblazoned with pentagrams suddenly appears between Garidan and Tanrov, attacking Garidan.
Spiritual Weapon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Rurik Voralius
Rurik drops his crossbow again and his scimitar slides out of the scabbard. He makes a tentative slash at the rogue that approaches.
Rurik: Scimitar attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
